I have been simultaneously looking forward to and dreading this round. I am a big fan of the Mega Man games and an especially big fan of their music. I would say that the Mega Man series has the best overall music in all of video game history (not including the Chrono Trigger series, because Yasunori Mitsuda turns on God Mode whenever he composes). My wish list for this stage is easily over 50 songs and every song I cut from the list to pare it down to 10 felt like dragging a beloved family pet out to the woods to bean in over the head with a Louisville Slugger.
So! List!
Name: Dr. Wily's Castle 1+2
Universe: Mega Man
Origin: Mega Man 2 (1989)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PlUl_hgXplg
Reason: Mostly confirmed and pretty much a must have for this stage. One of the most popular Mega Man tracks of all time and a Wily Castle track to boot. I don't think it needs any extra justifying to deserve a track of its own. Included the Smash Bros Arrangement.
Name: Dr. Wily's Castle 3+4
Universe: Mega Man
Origin: Mega Man 3 (1990)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VVWTpMGMNEg&t=0m40s
Reason: Another very strong Dr. Wily stage song that is sadly overshadowed by its MM2 brethren. It deserves a chance to shine and I'm giving it room here. I have included a rocking arrangement that I feel fits the mood perfectly.
Name: Whistle Concert
Universe: Mega Man
Game of Origin: Mega Man 3 (1990)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YxhCsKCyUkg (Classic)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LGSzKfFLuBo&t=0m11s (Arrangement)
Reason: Protoman's theme, which is another very recognizable song from the Mega Man series. The original jam packs so much emotion into it that it seems blasphemous to mess with it. Yet, in order to really work as a stage theme here, I think it needs to be given more punch. So I am offering up a classic rendition of the song along with a jacked up battle version. Pick your personal favorite in My Music, I guess.
Name: Central Highway
Universe: Mega Man
Origin: Mega Man X (1993)
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8F2jf0NRl2Y
Reason: With the reveal of 4 other Mega Man variation joining in on the final smash, I think it is fitting to pay homage to the other series' in music as well. From Mega Man X, here is the song for the opening level. It is a dark and urgent tune, which fits the tone of the X series well and would make it fit nicely on a Dr. Wily themed stage.
Name: Flutter Vs. The Gesellschaft
Universe: Mega Man
Origin: Mega Man Legends (1997)
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9v07PY14Zyw
Reason: A very catchy tune from the original Megaman Legends that was also used in the trailer for the highly anticipated Mega Man Legends 3 (pre-cancellation). This is the perfect way to let the dream of getting Mega Man Volnutt back from the moon live on.
Name: Battle Network Theme
Universe: Mega Man
Game of Origin: Mega Man Battle Network (2001)
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZocM0ZCnH5Q
Reason: This theme will be very familiar to any fans of the Battle Network series. Switches between a more intense sound and more relaxed one; and still feels all around like a Mega Man track. Should make for a good arrangement!
Name: Shooting Star
Universe: Mega Man
Game of Origin: Mega Man Star Force 2 (2007)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MEfKv4KcgPE&index=1
Reason: Rounding out our "Alternate Mega Man" tour de force is Shooting Star, the leitmotif for the Star Force series. The rendition from the second game would translate the best to a fighting game.
Name: Through the Air
Universe: Mega Man
Origin: Mega Man Battle & Chase (1998)
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hNyUN4-tGdI
Reason: You can blame this one on @ Starphoenix . Ever since he posted this back on page 12 (!) of this thread, I have not been able to forget it. Obscure Mega Man game or not, I just freaking love this track. This will be my oddball personal pick for this round; no regrets!
Name: Abandoned Memories
Universe: Mega Man
Game of Origin: Mega Man 10 (2008)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n_KIMUfWfIQ&t=0m45s
Reason: Getting back down to business. Here is a newer Wily theme from one of the Mega Man retro sequels. More classic Mega Man music styling. This track has a cool underlying tone to it that really sells it.
Name: Robot Master Suite
Universe: Mega Man
Game of Origin: Friggin' all of 'em.
Link: Cut Man: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZYusxYh0QRY
Air Man: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HHr_MR8BHOg
Metal Man: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8CGIa0O6ms
Snake Man: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xfWwJrzjqPM
Spark Man: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AQMeNbgF4U0
Dust Man: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aiMx62EMpgg
Skull Man: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YyW4m9YbiGk
Gravity Man: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0wweEZRtNX0
Tomahawk Man: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxETJITJc-8
Yamato Man: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qh9ij42Qba8
Turbo Man: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lQv4Dd6i8oQ
Junk Man: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W6Sb70-pgnE
Astro Man: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dVhrF8tUYWo
Galaxy Man: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2V_AUjnS9HQ
Tornado Man: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ADqQybbCPo
Solar Man: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a7FEAlecQKI
Reason: Why, yes. This is a 16 song medley. Thanks for noticing. How does such a long list like this work? Well, like the Robot Masters themselves, these tracks can be played in any order! Each time the music is played on the stage, you will first hear the familiar sound of the boss gates opening and closing. Then one of the songs will kick off and play for roughly 30 seconds before fading out. Then the gate sound will happen again and the next song will begin. A group of eight songs will be chosen at random each time and played in a random order, repeating if necessary. The songs you get and the order they play will never be the same twice!
*EDIT* - Is there a word for the feeling you get when you post a soundtrack list and then realize that your 5th, 6th, and 7th song are the exact same as the 5th, 6th, and 7th song of the guy who posted his list 7 minutes before you?
