EDIT: Ok, here it is!

-MaskO'Gears' Rainbow Road Song List-

Special picks in bold.

Name: Rainbow Road (3DS)
Universe: Mario Kart
Game of Origin (GoO): Mario Kart 7
Link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gQl4TRN9WqU
Well, being the song of the track Rainbow Road is based off of, It's a no brainier.

Name: Mario Circuit (SNES)
Brawl arrangement
Universe: Mario Kart
GoO: Super Mario Kart
Link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XKBkiusXNZg
It's the basic track... of the first game. The Brawl remix is perfect, and fits the 'space race' (heh) feel of Rainbow Road.

Name: Cloudtop Cruise (Wii U)
Universe: Mario Kart
GoO: Mario Kart 8
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vCt1xk7hxUY
One of my favorite Mario Kart songs, as It has a nice epic and somewhat intense feel to it. The guitar isn't the perfect fit for Rainbow Road, but near the end, the song transitions to Sky Station Galaxy and Gusty Garden Galaxy from the Super Mario Galaxy games, making this somewhat of a medley.

Name: Super Mario Galaxy 2 Challenge Medley (Wii)
New arrangement for SSB4
Universe: Super Mario Galaxy
GoO: Super Mario Galaxy 2
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fiPYVJ_KC0o (Cosmic Clones), http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MMMyAX-wesA (Time Attack)
Created to remind us of all of those challenging moments in SMG2....
This Medley starts out with Comic Clones, but with a slightly more urgent and darker tone, then transitioning into the Time Attack theme from Super Mario Galaxy 2. Both would have a tad bit more of an atmospheric feel as well.

Name: Diddy Kong Racing (N64)
New arrangement for SSB4
Universe: Donkey Kong
GoO: Diddy Kong racing
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pwU_WueGQQM
From Nintendo's other racing title, Diddy Kong Racing. The remix would keep the same feel, a happy whimsical feel.
Now, this song fits Rainbow Road about as much as Humoresque of a Little Dog fit New Pork City, but honestly, this game needs some love.

Name: Waluigi Pinball (DS)
Brawl Version
Universe: Mario Kart
GoO: Mario Kart DS
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sipjRIY8u24
IT'S WALUIGI TIME!!!
Waluigi returns, baby! A favorite track, Waluigi Pinball captures a crazy, wild and colorful feel, a lot like Waluigi! (And Rainbow Road) The dubbed 'Theme Of Waluigi', the Brawl version would do here.

Name: Main Menu (Mario Superstar Baseball, GCN)
Universe: Super Mario
GoO: Mario Superstar Baseball
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gt55YH_4XdM
Sorry, but this isn't the Mario baseball you're thinking of (Sluggers), no, this is the Gamecube Mario Baseball game. The electric piano and trumpets add nicely to the feel of Rainbow Road. Has a great 'sporty' feel to it.

Name: Toad's Turnpike (Wii U)
Universe: Mario Kart
GoO: Super Mario Kart
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7rXanDzbiSU
The new version of Toad's Turnpike!!
Toad's Turnpike is a favorite of many, being set in a busy highway. With cars driving everywhere, the player must focus not only on the race, but also on the traffic around them. This song got a remix in Mario Kart 8, and IMO, is better in every way than the N64 version.

*Name: Rainbow Road (Mario Kart 7)
Original
Origin: Mario Kart 7
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gQl4TRN9WqU&index=2
Reason: This song is all but confirmed. Iconic, catchy, and perfect for this stage.

*Name: Rainbow Road (Super Mario Kart)
Arrangement (New)
Origin: Super Mario Kart
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A-ASMWpeUfI
Reason: Seeing that the Rainbow Road from Super Mario Kart appears as a Retro course in the Lightning Cup, I'd say this is a logical second choice. The arrangement would make it sound more comparable to that of modern rainbow road themes, in terms of instruments and the general feel.

Name: Main Theme (Mario Kart 7)
Original
Origin: Mario Kart 7
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CAx6Mhc-0j4
Reason: The main theme of the game should obviously be in. It is catchy, and captures the feel of the Mario Kart series quite well.

Name: Mario Circuit
Arrangement (Brawl)
Origin: Super Mario Kart
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XKBkiusXNZg
Reason: This iconic song is a shoe-in for a Mario Kart stage. I chose to use the Brawl arrangement, because it has a fairly rainbow road-ish feel to it.

Name: Rosalina's Ice World
Original
Origin: Mario Kart 7
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4tRY0ZxT8zE
Reason: I tried to choose the next most 'spacey' course theme in the Mario Kart 7. Nothing is more spacey than the Queen of the Cosmo's home track. Fits the stage pretty well.

Name: Sky Garden
Arrangement (New)
Origin: Mario Kart: Super Circuit
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZEjOiYh1x0
Reason: An upbeat, happy, and memorable song that fits the stage quite well. I envision a orchestral arrangement with a adventurous feel not unlike Super Mario Galaxy.

Name: Mario Tennis/Mario Golf
Arrangement (Brawl)
Origin: Mario Tennis/Mario Golf
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJXrWrsN7wg
Reason: An iconic, grand song that fits in with the stage. I'd definitely like to see this song return.

Name: Title (3D Hot Rally)
Arrangement (Brawl)
Origin: 3D Hot Rally
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0DklAlK37sc
Reason: I decided to bring this back from Brawl because I feel like it fits the stage quite well.

OK, this is gonna be a silly question, but can I use a more recent version of a given song while making a general suggestion for better sound quality and all that, or do I have to use either the original or suggest a specific version? (for example, for a Kirby stage me putting the Galacta Knight battle theme on the list as just "Galacta Knight Battle", but then the video would be the Returns to Dreamland version as opposed to the Super Star Ultra version.)

You can. You can use any version of a song, and add your suggestions about it (but don't make them too drastic.)

Well, got one together. I tried to diversify as much as I could by not having it all Rainbow Road themes.
Name: Rainbow Road (3DS)
Universe: Mario Kart
Game It's Originally From: Mario Kart 7 (3DS, 2011)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gQl4TRN9WqU
Reason: The song from the original game! (Special pick)

Name: Rainbow Road (SNES)
Universe: Mario Kart
Game It's Originally From: Super Mario Kart (SNES, 1992)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dILXzIXmrMw
Reason: SNES Rainbow Road was the first retro Rainbow Road to return, and it was in Mario Kart 7. It's also the one that started it all! (Special pick, as well.)

Name: Rainbow Road (GBA)
Universe: Mario Kart
Game It's Originally From: Mario Kart Super Circuit (GBA, 2001)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_HmH5FK-R8Y
Reason: The 3DS version is all about the handheld, so having the first handheld Rainbow Road's song in would be fitting.

Name: Rainbow Road (DS)
Universe: Mario Kart
Game It's Originally From: Mario Kart DS (DS, 2005)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-SAlaDIKtc
Reason: Much like the GBA tune, it's from a handheld game.

Name: Rainbow Road (64)
Universe: Mario Kart
Game It's Originally From: Mario Kart 64, remixed for Mario Kart 8.
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VrrBZ1W4kSk
Reason: The finest of all Rainbow Road themes, made even better with Mario Kart 8!

Name: Purple Coins
Universe: Mario
Game It's Originally From: Super Mario Galaxy (Wii, 2007)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IxqXnLx8qDQ
Reason: Rainbow Road drifts among the cosmos, so having an epic tune from Mario's Galaxy adventures would be great.

Name: Star Maze
Universe: Mario
Game It's Originally From: Super Mario Land 2 (GB, 1992)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EmD9WnLYR5I
Reason: One of the songs from Mario's handheld adventures. Why not have a song from a stellar setting?

Name: Nebula
Universe: Excite
Game It's Originally From: Excite Truck (Wii, 2006)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OaKfaopjUjs
Reason: This song's very ethereal. Nebula was also Excite Truck's Rainbow Road.

CALLED IT!

Name: Rainbow Road
Origin: Mario Kart 7 (3DS, 2011)
Universe: Mario Kart
One of the best Rainbow Road themes of the series, mixing a magnificent main melody with bits of the classic N64 RR theme to make for one of the most memorable tracks on MK7...as the stage's based on that particular RR, I guess this track's kind of an obvious pick, also...like in the original game, when the platform goes through (And possibly stops at...) the moon, the moon version of this theme will take over until the fight progresses into the normal Rainbow stage, and when the fight's almost over, the song will become faster, Mario Kart-style! I'm considering that dynamic music doesn't count as a medley, like the Fire Emblem songs and their ~Ablaze~ versions.

Name: Mario Kart ~Circuit Medley~
Origin: Mario Kart Series
Universe: Mario Kart
Mario Circuit (SNES) - 0:01 to 0:03 (Intro)
Mario/Luigi/Royal Raceway (N64) - 0:04 to 0:17
Mario/Luigi/Yoshi Circuit (GCN) - 0:01 to 0:32
Mario Circuit (GBA) - 0:32 to 0:53
Mario/Luigi Circuit (Wii) - 0:29 to 0:53
Toad/Mario Circuit (3DS) - 0:20 to 0:49
Mario Circuit (WiiU) - 0:30 to 0:57 and then loops!
Circuits are a big part of Mario Kart, and I wanted to do a medley to do them some great justice! I either left out or gave really small appearances to the circuits that are already overrepresented (SNES, N64) or plain lame (NDS) to leave room for the better stuff. If possible, all the arrangements would be done Mario Kart 8 style to make them flow smoothly together, with those sax highlights and strong percussion!

Name: Rainbow Road
Origin: Mario Kart 8 (Wii U, 2014)
Universe: Mario Kart
So we've got an organic-sounding Rainbow Road with sweet, melodic arrangements, now we need a more techno Rainbow Road track that still sounds hopeful and beautiful, I had to decide between Super Circuit, DS, Wii and 8...but 8 definitely takes the cake, the music perfectly compliments the atmosphere of Rainbow Road and though I still hold out hope for Rainbow Road 8 being a stage on the Wii U, I couldn't miss the chance to place this new masterpiece on my songlist! Now we've got the two RR music archetypes covered!

Name: Melody Motorway/Music Park
Origin: Mario Kart 7 (3DS, 2011)
Universe: Mario Kart
One of the most memorable stages from Mario Kart 7 and the first music stage on the series (With Electrodrome, they're pretty much a series' staple now) with all the colorful visuals, upbeat music and special musical sections that add extra tracks to the music, like piano strings. I'm not sure how the extra bits would work on a Smash enviroment, but maybe they could be worked into the actual song without having to do anything special or weird to get them to play.

Name: Galaxy Colosseum
Origin: Mario Kart Wii (Wii, 2008)
Universe: Mario Kart
We take a turn for a darker atmosphere with this theme, a little obscure as it could only be heard during special Wi-Fi Tournaments. It's most likely one of the most Smash-esque themes on the Mario Kart series, sounding exactly like a serious battle through space and time...ON KARTS!

Name: Waluigi Pinball
Origin: Mario Kart DS (NDS, 2005)
Universe: Mario Kart
One of the best MK tracks ever brings the music to the battle! The Brawl version would be perfect!

Name: The Wastelands
Origin: Mario Strikers: Charged! (Wii, 2007)
Universe: Mario Sports
A wild pick from the second-best Mario sports subseries! This theme sounds more like a training theme, and that's part of the charm...the acoustic guitar feels nice and the piano sections add a certain touch of hope to the song that squeezes through and makes it perfect for Rainbow Road...another fast-paced song fit for fighting.

Name: Princess Peach's Secret Slide
Origin: Super Mario 64 (N64, 1996)
Universe: Super Mario
On modern Mario games, Rainbow Road's often linked to this theme, like on Super Mario Galaxy 2. I feel like the rendition should be a new arrangement, but I would like the song to have a Ska-esque tone like the Mario & Sonic version! It really breathes some fresh air into the song.

...

Nebula Belt would've been awesome here but I know we're getting a Lor Starcutter stage! I JUST KNOW! Also, the special picks are Rainbow Road 7 and the Circuit Medley.

Man, this is a tricky list to put together. There's plenty of good songs from Mario Kart, but I'm also not sure about including any songs outside of Mario Kart, like Mario Party or Mario Tennis.

hmmmm. :l

This is my first time doing this contest, so wish me luck!
1. Rainbow Road
Origin: Mario Kart 7
Universe: Mario Kart
Pretty much a given. The stage is based off Mario Kart 7's rainbow road, so I have no doubt this will be one of the songs.
2. Rainbow Road
Origin: Mario Kart 64/8
Universe: Mario Kart
The remix of super mario 64's rainbow road of Mario Kart 8. Awesome song.
3. Rainbow Road
Origin: Mario Kart 8
Universe: Mario Kart
Two rainbow roads from Mario Kart 8?1? Crazy, I know, but I couldn't resist. Both of them are so good!
4. Outer Space
Origin: Super Paper Mario
Universe: Paper Mario
I don't want to have all the songs be rainbow road songs, so here's one from Super Paper Mario! Completely underrated game IMO.
5. X-naut Moon Base
Origin: Paper Mario the Thousand Year Door
Universe: Paper Mario
Another Paper Mario song, this time from TTYD. This song is really good.
6. Star Maze
Origin: Super Mario Land 2
Universe: Super Mario
This song from Super Mario Land 2's space land is really awesome, even if the level was super hard. If it was in smash it should most likely be remixed to sound more modern.
7. Fluffy Bluff Galaxy
Origin: Super Mario Galaxy 2
Universe: Super Mario
I wanted to represent Super Mario Galaxy, but since Gusty Garden Galaxy is being used for the Wii U version, heres Fluffy Bluff Galaxy!
8. Neo Bowser City
Origin: Mario Kart 7
Universe: Mario Kart
Probably my favorite track from Mario Kart 7, the music from this track is great and is pretty fitting.

Good luck to everyone else whose participating!

Golf: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3XwIluGqn14

Party: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LnnAH4hzcxM

Note: Tennis's theme plays first, followed by Golf and then it slows into to Party in a style just like when the Rainbow Cruise theme slowed into the underwater theme. It then loops backs into the faster paced Tennis song.

Basically I wanted to represent the handheld Mario Karts with at least two songs per game plus one more for 7 and then have the medley for the spinoffs.

Almost forgot, my choice for the two songs are rainbow road 7 and Mario Kart 7 theme.

It seems none of you got my hint. Aww. It was pretty clear, when you really think about it. I showed you this gif:

The camera zooms in on Reggie's face. Reggie is an ardent Mario Kart fan, and he even owns his own Mario Kart. It's really not that much of a stretch.

It should be pretty clear in hindsight that I was hinting towards the Mario Kart Stage the entire time. Just ignore the whole "Tomodachi" thing.

I might have to join in this round.
Go for it! I will offer you no mercy because you're my boss, though. I try to remain objective.

HA! We tricked you!

We never intended to do Tomodachi or Gerudo Valley! :troll: It was a ruse from the start!
And here I was beating myself up over making you angry and ruining the contest...

Well, I'll come up with a list and get it posted ASAP. I take it that an all Rainbow Road tracks list wouldn't fly, eh?

I take it that an all Rainbow Road tracks list wouldn't fly, eh?
Fit: 10/10 (Nothing wrong here)
Importance: 7/10 (well-represented the stage, but not the franchise the stage is from)
Popularity: 3/10 (...you have one popular song, where are the rest?)
Variety: 0/10 (...no comment needed, hopefully...)
Total: 20/40
I think the lowest score I ever gave in the real competition (and I've judged about a half-dozen rounds) was a 27 or 28. That's way better than this horrible idea.

When is the deadline again?
Swamp tells me when to judge, and I judge. That's the way I like it. In other words, I have no idea. Sorry, and please understand.

As a note, for all my track lists, each song will always use their respective most recent renditions to hopefully maximize sound quality, with exceptions made for when my suggestion calls for a specific game's version. Also, (Remixed) tags are for songs that would get a new rendition for Smash, while (Original) tags go to songs that would use that exact version. Finally, * goes to my two star picks for 3DS stages.

Alright, here's my list:

* Rainbow Road 7 (Remixed)
Origins: Mario Kart(Mario Kart 7 <3DS>)
I mean really, who isn't gonna put this in their list? :p
Speaking of expectations, I would remix this song to take out the nod to Rainbow Road 64 to put an original section, not just for giving this version more of its own identity, but also because of my next song (Though not in the same way you expect...)
----
* Rainbow Road 64 (F-Zero X Edition) (Original)
Origins: F-Zero; Originally Mario Kart(F-Zero X; Originally Mario Kart 64 <Both N64>)
While yes, you could indeed put this track on whatever new F-Zero stage comes up, are you telling me that we finally have a stage based on Rainbow Road and you WOULDN'T jump on the chance to have it play this song?
----
Rainbow Road Wii (Remixed)
Origins: Mario Kart(Mario Kart Wii <Wii>)
While this is one of the more infamous Rainbow Roads in the series, the music itself is nicely bouncy and is the last console RR set in space yet to be referenced.
----
Tick-Tock Clock (Remixed)
Origins: Mario Kart(Mario Kart DS <DS>;Video uses the version from Mario Kart 8)
I admit, this is the one song that's in the list just because I like it so much. That said, it's a good track that fits well with the stage.
----
Galaxy Arena (Original)
Origins: Mario Kart(Mario Kart Wii <Wii>)
I figured it would be good to have one of the songs for the stage be from one of Mario Kart's actual battle arenas, and what better choice to go with than the Official-tourney-exlusive (as in, without hacking you can't even play it regularly) Galaxy Arena from Wii, and it's space themed to boot!
----
World Star Map (Remixed)
Origins: Mario(New Super Mario Bros. 2 <3DS>)
Beyond being representative of the newer handheld Mario games, and going with the whole space motif, it's a nice, slower song for players wanting a more easygoing time in Rainbow Road 7.
----
Waluigi Pinball (Sports Mix) (Original)
Origins: Mario(Mario Sports Mix <Wii>)
Not to be confused with the song named Waluigi Pinball from Mario Kart DS/7
----
X-Naut Fortress (Remixed)
Origins: Paper Mario(Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door <GC>)
And to round out the list, some Paper Mario love. In hindsight, those X-Nauts are so crazy putting their base on the moon now that Galaxy and Galaxy 2 shows than Mario can go on spacefare regularly.

This round is the big one for me. With my habit of premeditated track selecting, I already have a list for this and some adjustment from Mario Kart 8. I promise I won't falter this time!

Name: Rainbow Road 7* ★
Universe: Mario
Game It's Originally From: Mario Kart 7 (3DS, 2011)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gQl4TRN9WqU

The track from the course this version of Rainbow Road takes from. Consider this the default if you will. A pretty space-like, upbeat tune meant to fit with the track since composition.

Name: Rainbow Road 64 ★
Universe: Mario
Game It's Originally From: Mario Kart 64 (N64, 1996)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=shvbqQ-1vww

An ethereal, whimsical song with some guitar and jazz tambourine & bass sections mixed in. One of the most recognizable, iconic tracks hailed from the Mario Kart series. It's so famous that it has returned once more, but in an updated form. Which brings me to my next choice...

Name: Rainbow Road 64 (Mario Kart 8 Arrange)
Universe: Mario
Game It's Originally From: Mario Kart 8 (Wii U, 2014)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VrrBZ1W4kSk

Sakurai and his audio technicians are catering to alternate music tastes for some tracks with Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. This is evident in the Smash Bros. Direct, where Skyloft's official tracklist has the original Ballad of the Goddesses with a rock remix of it just under it. This way, you don't get much fuss over which version(s) of a song should be used. If this is seen as redundant, then it would be no more at fault than Skyloft. The reasons for the original track should suffice here. Only that the increased orchestral and jazz instruments here. Captures the feel of the N64 original.

Name: Rainbow Road 8
Universe: Mario
Game It's Originally From: Mario Kart 8 (Wii U, 2014)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bI837_fZPKc

A cheery electronic tune with some smooth guitar riffs. It may not capture the atmosphere of the space locale as well as the others, but it's a pretty exciting song to listen to nonetheless. Coming straight out of Mario Kart 8, I'm sure all sorts of people will recognize it. Definitely a memorable tune that will last throughout the gaming ages.

Name: Rosalina's Ice World
Universe: Mario
Game It's Originally From: Mario Kart 7 (3DS, 2011)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hv5CkvcwmEo

That's it for Rainbow Road themes. This track comes from the same game and cup that the Super Smash Bros. for 3DS version of Rainbow Road comes from. A magical piano & electronic tune fit with some cavernous ice echoes and sparkly chimes. Sounds very fitting with rainbow Road's setting. Also would kind of feel welcome with Rosalina & Luma's appearance in this game. For all we know, Rainbow Road could be their home stage for the 3DS version. Feels celebratory to the character duo and game.

Name: Spectator Race
Universe: Mario
Game It's Originally From: Mario Kart 7 (3DS, 2011)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UeQxzjMp3m8
An upbeat tune with sports organ, smooth repercussion beats & snare, and some standout guitar sections along with a solo. Captures the essence and feel of the Mario Kart series pretty well. This song accompanied you in the online spectator mode/Download Play spectator mode while you waited to drop in to the action of the next race. Pretty sure it was heard in some trailers too.

Name: Up 'n' Down*
Universe: Stunt Race FX
Game It's Originally From: Stunt Race FX (N64, 1994)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iyyr3TPALbg

And now for the extras. This came from the cartoony drag-racer, Stunt Race FX, for the Nintendo 64. And two years before Mario Kart 64 too! Out of all the tracks from the game, this whimsical chiptune sounds like it would fit right into the setting of most Mario Kart tracks retro and modern. This song provides atmosphere reminiscent of the spirit of the Mario Kart series.

Name: The Nebula*
Universe: Excite Truck
Game It's Originally From: Excite Truck (Wii, 2006)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OaKfaopjUjs
Between the original Excite Truck track from Brawl and this, I must say that The Nebula fits Rainbow Road much better. Wow, one word to sum up this track: epic. The hardcore tone and the dramatic feel of this song spices up the feel of Rainbow Road here. Not to mention it captures the space-like atmosphere of the stage with the distorted warps and angelic chants spread about. Besides, The Nebula and Rainbow Road are the grand final tracks of Excite Truck and Mario Kart respectively. Both are hard and unforgiving, but memorable and full of action.

* = Remix plausible
★ = Special picks (2 songs per stage for 3DS, after all)

[collapse="TJ-Work's Rainbow Road Tracklist"]

RAINBOW ROAD

The purpose of my tracklist is to use a memorable track (if not the most popular) from each Mario Kart game, all the way through to Super Mario Kart on SNES, excluding Mario Kart 8. I left that out as it literally just released less than a week ago. So I'm not sure if it deserves to be referred to yet due to SSB4's close release date.

* 1. Rainbow Road (3DS)
Origin: Mario Kart 7 (2011)
Reason:

  • The track itself is MK7's Rainbow Road, so that version's track seems the most obligatory choice.
  • An updated tribute to past Rainbow Road tracks and their music.
  • Enchanting.
* 2. Starman [Remix]
Origin: Since the dawn of Mario... (1985 - 2014)
Reason:

  • Debated after much frustration over what to use for the very last spot. I decided on this...
  • Starman is a power-up that has appeared in (pretty much) every Mario game, including Mario Kart has one of the best power-ups.
  • I wish I knew how to make my own remix...
    • Basically, it will start with a small introduction of SMB1's Starman theme. After a small pause, it will transition into the Sport Mix theme, which will be the main basis of the song that'll loop into itself.
    • The remix's tone is meant to be fast and compelling, mixed with segments of gracefulness and enchanting instruments. Along the lines of the SMG soundtracks.
    • To stop the theme from being too repetitive, I thought adding other Starman themes would work. I chose the SM64 themes as they had their own unique parts that'd mix in nicely. Unfortunately, it's hard to gauge the quality of a remix on paper. [Lemme know if you need me to explain anything.]
3. Rainbow Road (Wii)
Origin: Mario Kart Wii (2008)
Reason:

  • A fast-paced version playing opposite to MK7 Rainbow Road's slower tempo.
  • An optional alternative to the default Rainbow Road track above.
  • Still retains the spiritful, memorable tone of Rainbow Road.

4. Waluigi Pinball
Origin: Mario Kart DS (2005) / Super Smash Bros. Brawl (2008)
Reason:

  • One of the most popular Mario Kart tracks in general. (Appeared in SSBB.)
  • Shares similarites with Rainbow Road for their bright colours and neon textures (if that's relevant.)
  • Just damn good. Catchy, rhythmic, and especially memorable.
  • WALUIGI NUMBAH-WAAAN!
  • BA-BAA-bada-baa-boo-dododoo-DO-doodadoodoo...
5. Luigi Circuit (DD)
Origin: Mario Kart: Double Dash (2003)
Reason:

  • Double Dash's soundtrack stands out for its whistling themes. This being the first.
  • Pairs well with Mario Circuit, like brothers. *winkwink*
  • Fast-paced, lively, and enjoyable.
6. Mario Circuit (GBA) [MK8 vers.]
Origin: Mario Kart: Super Circuit (2001) / Mario Kart 8 (2014)
Reason:

  • MK: SC felt ignored in SSBB, so I'm saving its spot with its iconic track.
  • One of the better Mario Circuit themes.
  • Very jazzy and upbeat, reminiscent of Mario Kart/Circuit.
7. Toad's Turnpike
Origin: Mario Kart 64 (1996)
Reason:

  • Personal top favorite, but is also popular amongst fans for MK64 (alongside Raceway and Rainbow Road.)
  • A beautiful track that resonates with the beauty of Rainbow Road.
  • Mellow, soothing, but still retains a moderate tempo to avoid sounding too slow for a fighting game.
8. Battle Mode [MKWii vers.]
Origin: Super Mario Kart (1992) / Mario Kart Wii (2008)
Reason:

  • A perfect title for a SSB stage.
  • Battle Mode has appeared in every Mario Kart to date as a fun alternative to Kart Racing.
  • Chose this theme as it was the first composition in Super Mario Kart.
  • Holds a serious tone in contrast to other songs; variety.

Kind of wish we could have songs from other series. Because I found a perfect song for Rainbow Road. :p

^ Seriously, why the duplicate spoilers?
It was because the collapse/spoiler tag was centered. Applying any king of formatting to them causes them to duplicate.

Anyway, I fixed both your and Hotcakes' post.

Well, now that BridgesWithTurtles and Captain Hotcakes have entered the round, we can give them the win and call it a day.

Actually, BridgeWithTurtles has a joke submission ATM. That could be misleading to look at first. @ Pazzo. Pazzo. is the only one left to submit who hasn't already.
Maybe my choices were off-the-wall compared to the safe lists given by everyone else, but I'm offended that you'd write my list off as a joke, good sir.

...Yeah, I've got nothing. Don't count my submission as legit. I'm sitting this round out. Not too big on Mario Kart, or much of a fan of this stage.

For this list, I primarily stuck to representing the handheld titles (with a few exceptions). I only used a few of the songs featured on Brawl's Mario Circuit in case the stage returns. I hope you guys enjoy!

[collapse=It's called a road, it's called a Rainbow Road!]

FOR GLORY!

1. Name: Rainbow Road
Universe: Mario
Game of Origin: Mario Kart 7 (3DS, 2011)
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gQl4TRN9WqU

Reason: Considering that the track is based on the Mario Kart 7 version, I'd say this is a no brainer.

2. Name: Rainbows of the Past (a medley)
Universe: Mario
A medley of the following tracks:

Name: Rainbow Road
Game of Origin: Super Mario Kart (SNES, 1992)
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A-ASMWpeUfI

Name: Rainbow Road
Universe: Mario
Game of Origin: Mario Kart: Super Circuit (GBA, 2002)
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=27HDNimM9lo

Name: Rainbow Road
Universe: Mario
Game of Origin: Mario Kart DS (DS, 2005)
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OD5GsDb_Cus

Reason: On one hand, it's a Rainbow Road stage, so these tracks are pretty much essential. On the other, overcrowding the tracklist with them will prevent other tracks from having a chance to shine. Therefore, we have a medley. MK7 is what the stage is based on, so it stands on its own. I then decided to focus on the handheld versions, leaving me with the SNES (which happens to be in MK7), GBA, and DS tracks. The original classic, an underrated gem, and the previous handheld version, respectively. I feel that these three would go wonderfully together with the right arrangement. Plus, it's Rainbow Road goodness!

FOR FUN!

3. Name: Waluigi Pinball
Universe: Mario
Game of Origin: Mario Kart DS (DS, 2005) / Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Wii, 2008)
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sipjRIY8u24

Reason: This Brawl track was the game's only rep for handheld Mario Kart. I'd like to see it return and be featured here. Waluigi Pinball is still a fairly popular course, returning for Mario Kart 7, and the arrangement feels like it's better suited for outer space.

4. Name: Galaxy Arena
Universe: Mario
Game of Origin: Mario Kart Wii (Wii, 2008)
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VxzJY3CN0yg

Reason: This one may seem to be an odd pick, and it sorta is. It's a track I faintly recall hearing a long time ago, back during Nintendo's Mario Kart Wi-Fi tournaments. It's a pretty intense sounding battle theme, which makes for a nice contrast to the other track options.

5. Name: Rosalina's Ice World
Universe: Mario
Game of Origin: Mario Kart 7 (3DS, 2011)
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4tRY0ZxT8zE

Reason: To be honest, I haven't had a chance to play Mario Kart 7 yet, but on listening to the songs, this song feels kinda creepy. It would definitely work in outer space, especially since it relates to one of our newcomers. Quite frankly, Rainbow Road fits the Rosalina motif so she should have a song. The fact that it's unsettling makes it stand out more compared to other potential track choices.

6. Name: Baby Park
Universe: Mario
Game of Origin: Mario Kart: Double Dash (GCN, 2003)
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y99wX-JZGJo

Reason: THE BABY THE BABY! Yeah, I suggested this for Pyrosphere as a joke, but it's a really catchy and upbeat song. While it is a GCN song, this track returned for Mario Kart DS, so it technically counts. Plus it's also related to our Mario newcomer (Baby Rosalina's a thing now), and while Waluigi Pinball is upbeat, that has a more techno vibe compared to the zany off-the-wall sound of this track. It literally screams free for all, making it a perfect fit for Smash.

7. Name: Who is the CoinHunter?
Universe: Mario
Game of Origin: Mario Hoops 3 on 3 (DS, 2006)
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LMuLrmC9UZU

Reason: And here's my oddball pick! What's that? You think my entire tracklist is filled with oddball picks? Well, I guess you could say that. And in fact, while this song is from a non Mario Kart title, it actually fits perfectly! You see, this theme plays during a mode called Dribble Race. One of the courses for this mode is Rainbow Road! There is a method to my madness, see?

8. Title (3D Hot Rally)
Universe: Famicom/Mario?
Game of Origin: Famicom Grand Prix II: 3D Hot Rally (Famicom Disk System, 1988) / Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Wii, 2008)
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0DklAlK37sc

Reason: A great track all around and a throwback to Mario's pre-Kart days. I hope that even if this track doesn't make it onto this stage, that it's still in the game in some form.

JOKE PICK
Name: Reading Rainbow
Universe: PBS
Origin: Reading Rainbow (TV, 1983)
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WfGhfI_NwcA

Reason: Take a look, it's in a book...

[/collapse]

Hope you enjoyed. Now here's a Luigi gif!

Comin' at ya, like a blue shell!

Name: Rainbow Road
Universe: Mario Kart
Origin: Mario Kart 7 (2011)
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gQl4TRN9WqU
Reason: Everyone else has said it, but yeah. Track this stage is based on + catchy tune = no-brainer.

Name: Rainbow Road (DS)
Universe: Mario Kart
Origin: Mario Kart 7 (2005)
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zn9VjMEh9CM
Reason: Another great Rainbow Road track and a nice choice as a secondary song. It's another handheld track and it has a different all-around feel to it than the MK7 variant does.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Name: Rainbow Road (SNES)
Universe: Mario Kart
Game of Origin: Mario Kart (1992)
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TvZFBaGmwQE (Original)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=02-uU91jNX0 (Arranged)
Reason: One last Rainbow Road Track; the original and probably most recognizable theme. Take your choice on classic or the included arranged version, either way it is a must-have for a Rainbow Road stage.

Name: Sky Garden
Universe: Mario Kart
Origin: Mario Kart Super Circuit (2001)
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NejLH-W7Vn4 (Original)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PEifDewTTh4 (Arrangement)
Reason: A cheerful and whimsical track that would be a lot of fun and makes a nice counter-point to the Rainbow Road tracks.

Name: Staff Credits

Universe: Mario Kart
Origin: Mario Kart 64 (1996)
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kzIwmBNcIyA
Reason: Mario Kart 64's very underrated credits song is both cinematic and atmospheric and would fit in right along with riding a road of rainbow through a starry sky.

Name: Starship
Universe: Mario Sports
Game of Origin: Mario Sports Mix (2011)
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKJCdXFReXA
Reason: A fun spacey themed track. Has a Mario Galaxy-style tune with some competitive edge, which is perfect for a race track stage.

Name: Star Open
Universe: Mario Sports
Game of Origin: Mario Tennis Open (2012)
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bgoIxLTAx3c
Reason: Upbeat and energetic, but also sweeping and epic in scale, this is a great track for an intense round.

Name: Rainbow Coaster
Universe: Mario Kart
Origin: Mario Kart Arcade GP2 (2007)
Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9dBrqfNt_jg
Reason: A different take on the Rainbow Road stage from the arcade game. A pleasant little tune to close out on.

Also, I really wish Nintendo would buy the right to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, then re-release Turtles in Time, just so this stage could have Neon Night Riders as a track.

You know what I was heavily debating NOT entering this round but anyways. Keeping reason more brief this time.

Name: Rainbow Road (Mario Kart 7)
Universe: Mario Kart
Game of Origin: Mario Kart 7
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gQl4TRN9WqU
Reason: Do I really need to explain? The track is popular, the track is catchy, the stage is on Rainbow Road. Good day. If the stage lands on the Moon this version should play: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WdyHSp6nRc8
This is really just a glorified version of 64's pretty much.

Name: Neo Bowser City
Universe: Mario Kart
Game of Origin: Mario Kart 7
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aS617_umZ-w
Reason: Who said the second track had to be another Rainbow Road? This is a catchy techno piece that fits space and Rainbow Road in my opinion. It may be a bit repetitive, but if need be make an arrangement. I'm well aware this is a remix of Toad's Turnpike but it is very different. Also, it's popular and it sounds a LOT better than most of the songs 7 brought us...

Name: Waluigi Pinball
Universe: Mario Kart
Game of Origin: Mario Kart DS
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sipjRIY8u24
Reason: I LOVE this version of it and it already fits Rainbow Road. Waluigi was a popular Smash candidate as well and a pretty well known Mario character as well so there is that. It also returned as a retro course in 7.

Name: Sky Garden (remastered)
Universe: Mario Kart
Game of Origin: Mario Kart: Super Circuit
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g68cHMi16vw
Reason: One of the best tracks from Super Circuit hands down. Sky is in the name as well hilariously making it relatable to space in some capacity. I think this track should go for a more beautiful orchestrated piece as opposed to something techno both for more variety and the fact that I think it would fit better for this piece however a techno piece would be just fine. A very nice version I found: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NejLH-W7Vn4

Name: Airship Fortress
Universe: Mario Kart
Game of Origin: Mario Kart DS
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d224PrISnVY&feature=kp
Reason: AIRship Fortress...see where I'm going with this? Nah, just kidding, this track is pretty epic and could use a remix or remaster definitely. Something like this maybe: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gQGz20uotlo. A sped up version would definitely sound more space like...but I like the variety it brings.

Name: Mario Circuit
Universe: Mario Kart
Game of Origin: Super Mario Kart
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XKBkiusXNZg
Reason: Any version of Mario Circuit would do really, but the one from Super Mario Kart is the most well known version. It appeared in Brawl and because Mario Circuit is a well known stable of the franchise why not?

Name: Mario Tennis/ Mario Golf
Universe: Mario Sports
Game of Origin: Mario Power Tennis and Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sJXrWrsN7wg
Reason: This exact arrangement from Brawl! Although it is not A Mario Kart it comes from related spinoff series and is quite catchy. I don't see why the Tennis and Gold series can't get representation. Trivia: The Mario Tennis Open theme is a composition of the original Power Tennis theme.

Name: Eternal Star
Universe: Mario Party
Game of Origin: Mario Party
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W9-cZuX3l2g
Reason: My oddball pick. I wanted to represent another side of Mario spinoffs without diving into RPG territory (since I think they will get their own stage anyways). This song would be absolutely amazing with a metal or rock cover and in fact I found one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aYhSw3y82qY

This is my first time entering :)

Name: Rainbow Road (MK7)
Universe: Mario Kart
Game: Mario Kart 7
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gQl4TRN9WqU
Reason: Practically all but confirmed for the stage

Name: Rainbow Road
Universe: F-Zero
Game: F-Zero X: Expansion Kit
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cXqJEEAA-sw
Reason: The original version is a master piece, but this rock version if also pretty epic and feels more suitable for a fighting game.

Name: Waluigi Pinball
Universe: Mario Kart
Game: Mario Kart DS
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sipjRIY8u24
Reason: A great track that got a great remix Brawl. Waluigi is also pretty popular and this course even returned in MK7

Name: Cloudtop Cruise
Universe: Mario Kart
Game: Mario Kart 8
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YebsVQt1NkA
Reason: An excellent track from the latest installment and the Galaxy part really works with the outer space theme of Rainbow Road

Name: Melody Motorway/Music Park
Universe: Mario Kart
Game: Mario Kart 7
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7Hv4t8oqrY
Reason: Has a catchy beat that always makes me dance around to the music.

Name: Yoshi Valley
Universe: Mario Kart
Game: Mario Kart 64
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cb7ZOQozK_A
Reason: Very catchy and memorable to anyone who's played MK64. A bit of an oddball choice and a gamble but I think hearing country music like this on Rainbow Road will bring a smile to anyone's face.

Groose liked mine! The danger is real son!
They don't like you for your work and effort. They only like you for your Luigi memes and gifs.

You're all buying lies and deceit. They make you comfortable with your choices, only to pull the rug from under you when they slap you with bad grades and criticisms. The moment that your confidence crumbles.

And then what happens? You feel nothing but self-loathing and misery. Your life spirals out of control, as you begin to troll across the forums with your bad jokes and overused meme references. To overcome your feeling of low self-esteem.

And then, when you finally leave a moment to yourself, in your mind and being, you remember.

" I shouldn't have put that song in my list. "

...

I'm going to work really hard my whole life, so when I'm older, I'll have enough money to by my own Mario Kart just like Reggie. Maybe even a King of Red Lions too. This is my life goal

Anyways, here is my first entry in this thread.

[collapse=Rainbow Doof]
Name: Rainbow Road 7
Universe: Mario Kart
Game: Mario Kart 7
http://youtu.be/gQl4TRN9WqU
Reason: Even though it's not my favorite Rainbow Road theme, it's the actual theme for the stage, so it's a shoe-in.

Name: Rainbow Road Medley
Universe: Mario Kart
Game: Many Different Mario Kart Games
A mix of SNES Rainbow Road (http://youtu.be/gEDJopSlcL0), N64 Rainbow Road (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K5xdue7GFcc), Double Dash rainbow Road (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DIxCemuJYDc), Super Circuit Rainbow Road (http://youtu.be/_HmH5FK-R8Y), DS Rainbow Road (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-SAlaDIKtc), and Wii Rainbow Road (http://youtu.be/PhOHzGuYBqA).
Reason: In Brawl, there were a decent amount of medleys for different series. There was the Ocarina of Time Medley, Kirby Boss Theme Medley, and more! Rainbow Road seems to be the perfect opportunity to do one, as each game in the MK series has its own unique version of this song! The songs I've chosen are from all the Mario Kart games except 7 (which has its own song as the stage's main one, and 8, which I really don't think needs one (maybe on Wii U). If it is done the right way, it will be a masterpiece that everyone will remember in Smash. It should truly capture that magical essence of Rainbow Road.

Name: Rainbow Road 64 (MK8 Remastering)
Universe: Mario Kart
Game: Mario Kart 8 (originally 64)
http://youtu.be/VrrBZ1W4kSk
Reason: It's like the original, but better. "BUT THE ORIGINAL IS THE BEST BECAUSE IT IS THE ORIGINAL!" Yes, I know the original is the original, but this is just like the original, but updated to today's standards, and it takes advantage of the technology we have today that we didn't back then. This is probably one of the best remasterings of am old video game song I have ever heard. Plus, Smash usually updates old songs to match current standards, so a Rainbow Road 64 track would probably sound SOMETHING like this.

Name: Rainbow Road Double Dash
Universe: Mario Kart
Game: Mario Kart Double Dash!!
http://youtu.be/DIxCemuJYDc
Reason: This is probably my next favorite Rainbow Road after 64 and it's remastering. Unlike most people on this site, I am rather young, and I didn't grow up with the NES, or SNES, or even N64. I grew up in the late GameCube era, and Wii era (in fact, I'm still growing up, and I'm sure in 10 years, I'll have some fond memories of the WiiU, and how Nintendo was struggling with it). While I never owned a GC of my own, I always played it at friends' houses. One game I always played was Double Dash, and that Rainbow Road track kicks in my Nostalgia Gland. So yeah, I love this. It's amazing. (Keeping my fingers crossed for another Mario Kart game for the Wii U, using the Double Dash mechanic...) And don't worry, this is my last Rainbow Road track. I'll do some other songs for my last 4.

Name: Cloudtop Cruise
Universe: Mario Kart
Game: Mario Kart 8
http://youtu.be/YebsVQt1NkA
Reason: [Just as a disclaimer, I know this (and maybe Rainbow Road N64) would fit better with a Mario Kart WiiU stage. But since we don't have one confirmed yet, I'll just assume this is the only MK stage for now.] Anyway, I love the Galaxy-inspired theme in this song, expect ally the part where Gusty Gardens starts playing. As I said before, I grew up with the Wii, and Galaxy was the first Mario game I played (not counting me running around in circles in Mario 64 at age 3). And I'm a sucker for nostalgia, so I had to choose this one.

Name: Tick Tock Clock (MK8 Remastering)
Universe: Mario Kart
Game: Mario Kart 8 (originally DS)
http://youtu.be/UWHQacbNjHE
Reason: Another Mario Kart handheld song, and a pretty darn good one if I do say myself. Yeah, I know it's the MK8 version, but I just chose that over the original DS version because that game was kinda lame due to technical limitations, and the music couldn't be as good as it should've been. MK8 showed us what this song was really meant to be, and how it sounds at full potential. And I know it doesn't really fit in a fighting game, but put that's what makes it awesome! Note this is my last Mario Kart track, and I'm gonna do something unique for the last two.

Name: City Trial
Universe: Kirby
Game: Kirby Air Ride
http://youtu.be/tfeqAdrD_yM
Reason: I had to include SOME non-Mario Kart songs in here, and this seemed like the perfect fit! Nintendo once threw another one of its iconic platforming characters into a racing game, which became known as Kirby Air Ride, which, like Mario Kart, had some pretty epic music! Everyone who has Air Ride has probably spent a decent amount of time playing the City Trial mode, and it actually became pretty popular. Even Sakurai knows that, as the new Smash Run mode is literally just like it, where you go around an open map, collecting power-ups, that will effect your stats, and get ready for a special match between all the players in five minutes. So yeah, this song is pretty popular, it's from another racing spin-off, and it does kinda fit in a fight.

Name: Rainbow Road (F-Zero X)
Universe: F-Zero
Game: F-Zero X Expansion Kit
Reason: Oh, N64DD, you had so much potential, but at least you gave us this epic song before you left. When looking for Rainbow Road tracks, I found this little gem, and I immediately knew I had to use it. It's like Rainbow Road from MK64, but with all the manliness that Captain Falcon has! I am still shocked this exists! It's so awesome! How did I not know about this! Anyway, I chose this because it just makes perfect sense. It is the traditional Rainbow Road song we all love, but with a unique twist from another series, that makes it unique.
