I wanted to include many different types of songs in this list, to give it more variety, but also made sure that all these songs fit the stage well.

Gusty Garden Galaxy (Super Mario Galaxy): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcZhJDUFb58
Arguably the most popular song of the Galaxy games, this had to be here.

Good Egg Galaxy (Super Mario Galaxy): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GurdjJOhsQs
Another vey popular song from the original Galaxy, the instruments here blend perfectly to create a very adventurous and space-like theme.

Fluffy Buff Galaxy (Super Mario Galaxy 2): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nlAaKS4hWk4
While I preferred Galaxy 2 to its original overall, the music of the first game captured me more than its sequel, due it it being all brand new. however, when I first heard this theme, I was blown away by how grand and amazing it was, and it certainly fits a setting like the one in this stage.

Bowser's Galaxy Generator (Super Mario Galaxy 2): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EsyjY9lDVk8
This is the music playing in the final castle of the game, and is extremely amazing and epic. It gives you the same kind of spacey and adventurous feelings like the previously mentioned songs, but drives it into a more intense direction.

Tank Theme (Super Mario 3D World): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cGTitVS4KvA
3D World's soundtrack, in my opinion, is just as great as the Galaxy games, but most of the songs went for a less powerful and more jazzy feel. However, this song sets itself apart and fits perfectly with this stage because of its regal and grand tone and similar use of instruments as the music of Galaxy.

Final Battle (Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ckxy-i7Dc5U
More than any other song on this list, this song delivers a great sense of urgency and intensity. An orchestrated version of this song would be great for heated battles on this stage.

Rainbow Road (Mario Kart Wii): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PhOHzGuYBqA
All the Rainbow Road songs fit well with this stage, but the Wii version fits the best as its Rainbow Road is actually based off The Galaxy games. This also gives off a nice space mood and fits pertly with the stage.

I confess never playing Super Mario Galaxy 2 will put me at a disadvantage, but what I've selected is within good taste I think. Overall, I think the Super Mario Galaxy stage should have songs restricted to ones originating from SMG and SMG2, and the good orchestral music should not go to waste here.

Good Egg Galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qy8Sn6DHIi0

There are two songs that are essential for representing Super Mario Galaxy. The first is Good Egg Galaxy, the first big galaxy you encounter. A midi arrangement of this song was played during Super Mario Galaxy's first E3 Trailer. It's a song fans of the game will never forget.

Gusty Garden Galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VEIWhy-urqM

The second most essential song for Super Mario Galaxy is the seemingly more popular Gusty Garden Galaxy. And who can blame for people for that? This song is amazing!

Bowser's Galaxy Reactor
Super Mario Galaxy
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TVZTMPLqNw8

One of the best things about this Bowser level is that unlike other Bowser levels in other Mario games, it doesn't have its usual Bowser feel to it. The composition is more general in terms of theme. It is an exciting, and dangerous obstacle course in space, and I feel it is one of the best songs in SMG's soundtrack.

Buoy Base Galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z29bt-wjS88

A well-liked song from Super Mario Galaxy's OST. I feel this is among the best orchestral tracks from SMG, and it should not go to waste.

Purple Coins
Super Mario Galaxy/Super Mario Galaxy 2
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gadk8EFVUkI

A song that appears in both SMG and SMG2 is an important song in my opinion, and the Purple Coins song is probably the first song that comes to mind.

Sky Station Galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy 2
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WTht2pC-9AA

This is an important and popular song from Super Mario Galaxy for reasons similar to that of Good Egg Galaxy. It was used in its E3 trailer and is also the song of the first big Galaxy of the game.

Comet Observatory and Starship Mario Medley
Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 respectively
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5sN2DpfOhTo
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YmswPJei0g

There's no confirmation yet that the Comet Observatory will be seen on the stage like Starship Mario, but it wouldn't be right to give Starship Mario preference over Rosalina's theme, so I'm playing the medley card for this one.

Throwback Galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Remix of Bob-omb Battlefield from Super Mario 64)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fVt61oE5BfE

We need to pay respects to older compositions in soundtrack selections, and luckily, the SMG series has a few. Among these, the Throwback Galaxy is more memorable, and was made with more love than the other remixes in my opinion. I think this song also fits well with the stage.

Name: The Moon
Origin: Ducktales (NES, 1989)
Universe: Disney?
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y0SwlMohRng
Remember how Nintendo used Tetris A and Tetris B in Luigi's Mansion despite them not being entirely Nintendo's property and not having anything to do with Mario? Both songs got in because they were extremely important parts of Nintendo's history and there was nowhere else to put them in? Well, this is that kind of music on my list...I just don't have anything to say about the Moon that hasn't been said yet, it almost feels as magical as Good Egg Galaxy.
I thought about this one as well, but as a serious entry, I couldn't put in because everyone knows negotiating with Disney is crazy to begin with.

That being said, this song is more than appropriate and would be one of my first picks for a custom soundtrack.

My two cents on the DuckTales Moon Theme:

Although it's one of my favorite themes, there's no way Disney and Nintendo are going to negotiate use for that one song, it seems like a waste to put in a 4th party song for the sake of nostalgia. It's like if we put in the Mickey Mouse March. It's just very unlikely, and honestly, Mario's got such a huge soundtrack, there's a lot of songs that have a chance before that.

The idea of having the Moon theme from Ducktales, a Disney video game, on a Mario stage on a Nintendo video game is nothing more than a dream that could only come true with the assistance of hacking.

Logically, it makes no sense to use it there. It's from a franchise completely unrelated to Mario. The stage represents Super Mario Galaxy, and the Mario franchise, it should have Mario songs, most of them from Super Mario Galaxy and it's sequel, with a small amount from some other Mario games, it doesn't make it any sense whatsoever to include a song from a completely unrelated franchise owned by Disney just because it fits the stage. It'd be like including the main theme of Epic Mickey on Final Destination. It's just downright illogical.

I really thought that at first when choosing the song, but then I considered that Capcom acts as kind of a 'bridge' here, they could make the negotiations easier with Disney because Ducktales IS a Capcom game, and how many times do I have to say that the importance of this track doesn't depend on its relationship with Mario, but its relationship with Nintendo as a whole since Ducktales was one of the truly best and most memorable games on the NES and Smash is about fanservice anyway.

I mean, it's almost funny how Frostwraith compared the importance of a Star Wars game-Nintendo to Duck-FRICKIN'-FAMOUS-AMAZING-LOVED-EVERYTRUENINTENDOFANLOVESIT-NES-GAME-Tales and Nintendo.

It really surprises me how such a no-brainer choice became the object of polemic :I What's wrong with this world?

Sakurai isn't going to go out of his way to get one song from a great and memorable NES on a stage from an unrelated franchise. If Fanservice mattered that much, they might as well add Scrooge himself as a playable character.

Sakurai is not going to add a song from Ducktales to the Galaxy stage and disregard the fact that it's a song from a game completely unrelated to Mario just because it's from a great and memorable game on the NES as a form of fanservice, The game does not have THAT strong of a relationship with Nintendo. I'd be shocked if Sakurai even thought of the song while working on the stage.

And how many people do you really think would think of a single song from Ducktales when thinking about what songs would fit on a Mario stage, espescially when the stage is from a game with huge, brilliant soundtrack? It's far, far from a no-brainer choice.

Capcom bridging really doesn't change anything. It's not like as soon as Megaman gets in, they can use any asset from Capcom for free. It doesn't work that way.

Again, just save it for the music hacks, assuming we have to mod to do that in Smash 4.

A word on Rainbow Road.

We likely will have a Mario Kart stage, but unless it's Rainbow Road (it wasn't in Brawl), a RR track will not fit. That's why I have a Rainbow Road track on my list.

Likely, but not confirmed. We may get an entirely new stage rep in place of Mario Kart, like Paper Mario, Mario & Luigi RPG, or even the long-awaited but deserving Bowser's Castle.

...or maybe it's Mario Hoops 3 on 3.

1. Ducktales is not Nintendo's IP, no matter how well known you claim the game to be. (I never heard of it before and I'm a very knowledgeable person.)
2. Sakurai wouldn't go through all the trouble of negotiating with Disney for just one song, therefore the choice is really far fetched, no matter how fitting it may be for the stage. You have to keep the choices reasonable.
3. The song neither is from a Nintendo franchise, nor is it from the Mario series, making it very irrelevant to the stage in question. This is a fact.

What's so hard to understand about this? All some people did was to make constructive criticism (this is a contest, after all) and you got amazingly butthurt over it. Chill out and I ask that we all drop the subject.

You are free to keep your choice and no one is forcing you to change it. However, you have to admit you're overreacting. Again, just calm down. This is just a contest and each contestant may discuss their choices with each another and sharing opinions. Contestants can edit their choices at any time while a round is open, after all.

This.

It's scenarios like this that have convinced me to ignore assumptions about stages during this contest. I just pick the songs I think would fit. I don't feel pressured to "save" certain songs for stages that might not even come to exist.

You had how much time?

And it's not like you weren't on either. You were just putting it off.
Aw.
Well I'm pretty sure that I'll lose this one for sure then, realized there was a song or two that I probably should have changed.

OH WELL.

I didn't include Throwback Galaxy as I didn't see it fit with the stage. But… now I feel sad… :( Super Mario 64 was my childhood! (as was Sonic 2, but mostly Super Mario 64)

Yeah. Hisstocrat would've probably fit my list better than Overthere Stair.

Oh well. Makes the list more diverse by featuring Mario RPGs.

I found Throwback Galaxy fitting. Certainly more fitting than the overworld theme for 3D World, but your mileage may vary. There's probably going to be an NSMBWii/3D World stage on the Wii U version anyway.
