The Spanish Inquisition? Eh, eh? Too obscure? Okay then. I'll try again. It was the Wii U's turn.
What were you expecting?
The Spanish Inquisition? Eh, eh? Too obscure? Okay then. I'll try again.
Expecting Arena Ferox? TOO BAD. Baby Pyrosphere time! ...That doesn't even make sense! Dangit!
I apparently fail at trolling, too. Time to go make a track list that kicks GRC's track list's butt. Then I'll go mope in my corner like the hated 3rd party candidate that I am.
ROUND EIGHT: Pyrosphere (Wii U)
The long awaited Metroid stage is finally up for your list! GRC, you excited? Let's see what kind of space tunes we can get. There are no confirmed tracks, so it's all up to you!The Baby...
We'll see about that, amigo.![]()
YES OKAY MUCH OF THANK TO YOU swampasaur is a wonderful person
[collapse="GRC's Pyrosphere Song List"]
Although Other M did not have many songs to work with, I still find it important to make sure that it gets decent representation in SSB4 for the reason that it is obviously the game much of Metroid will be based off of this time around. As such, I won't plague the list with shoddy choices, but I'll certainly make sure Other M isn't just nonexistent to the soundtrack.
Also, console songs only. Fusion and Metroid II can wait for the handheld Metroid stage.
Name: Versus Ridley
Series: Metroid
Game of Origin: Metroid: Other M
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=90f9wfZKF9o
Name: Versus King Kihunter
- Considering that this is the song actually associated with the stage, I don't think too much justification is needed here.
- If it is: Ridley's theme is absolutely iconic to the series. This rendition is both recent, very well done in composition, and fitting for the stage. Perfect.
Series: Metroid
Game of Origin: Metroid: Other M
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QjxIaLPD9b8
Name: Samus's Resolve
- One of the songs new to Other M. Kihunters are very recurrent to the series, meaning a little acknowledgment wouldn't hurt for the veteran enemies, right?
- Fitting to the stage's tone. Very tense with a lot of percussion--you can feel the action about to ensue. Grit in a song goes very well with metal environments and rushing pours of lava.
Series: Metroid
Game of Origin: Metroid: Other M
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bxv4odiTNQg
Name: Magmoor Caverns
- One of the better songs of Other M, in my opinion. Sounds rather triumphant and eerie at the same time--a good song for sure that can give chills.
- I won't go as far as to say that this could measure up to Samus's Theme from Super Metroid, but I must admit that a theme like this is still very well fitting for Samus as a character while still fitting for the stage's tension.
Series: Metroid
Game of Origin: Metroid Prime / Super Metroid
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQCZIb0fbt8
*Note that this is a remix of Lower Norfair from Super Metroid and would ideally be as such. Original: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UgHkrY6v-Ko
Name: Escape
- I'm sure absolutely everyone is surprised at the lack of Lower Norfair's/Magmoor Caverns' inclusion in Brawl. The song is absolutely godly within the Metroid franchise.
- Originates from a very hot place featuring a lot of lava, warm colors with dark floorings, and a Ridley fight. I challenge you to give me a reason why this doesn't fit. Just one. Seriously, it can't be done!
- Doubles as both Super Metroid and Prime 1 representation.
Series: Metroid
Game of Origin: Metroid Prime 2: Echoes / Metroid
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Unkrc1saV2A
Note: This is a remix of the Escape Theme from Metroid and would ideally be as such. Original: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dfdoJNBkgg4
Name: Space Pirates Battle
- Classic to the series, having appeared since the very first game. When Ridley's theme isn't being used instead, this is the song you hear as Samus escapes from something blowing up.
- Doubles as Metroid 1 and Prime 2 representation.
- One of the darker possible picks for a Metroid song without dipping into other songs of subjective notoriety from other Metroid games, especially Prime 2.
Series: Metroid
Game of Origin: Metroid Prime / Metroid Prime 2: Echoes / Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
Note: This is a medley of the three different versions of the same theme from the Metroid Prime series. Different versions would shift throughout the song.
Prime (Beginning - 0:45): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RdebQ-y15Dg
Prime 2 (0:40 - 1:10): http://youtu.be/5iSU5LPYczE?t=40s
Prime 3 (Beginning - 0:38): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0zmbFSVAOtI
Repeat the cycle starting at Prime 1's rendition at 0:26.
Full medley (created by myself): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oiA6QPglJRs
Note: Yes, the transitions aren't perfect, but it makes it easier to imagine in your head when you have a video to do that for you, no?
Name: Main Theme (Metroid)
- That's a lot to absorb, isn't it? A medley of the same melody may seem rather repetitive, but you'll find that the result is surprisingly effective in what it can achieve. The songs by themselves are rather short, but when combined into multiple parts form a melody that stays fresh for quite a long time, all thanks to shifting instrumentation. For that reason, a medley becomes objectively the best way to include the Space Pirate Battle themes without favoring one version over another.
- Representation of an entire trilogy in one track? Certainly important, if I say so myself.
- The songs manage to capture a non-aggressive form of unease compared to other Metroid choices. Rather than being outright dark or action-packed, Space Pirate theme manages to provide a sort of looming type of tension, one that motivates fighting not through adrenaline or vengeance, but self-defense alone. In other words, melody with a psychological effect to boot.
Series: Super Smash Bros.
Game of Origin: Super Smash Bros. Brawl
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3MRznLSFGFQ
Name: Brinstar Depths
- Essential to the series. No Smash Bros. is a Smash Bros. I'd like to play without this theme being present for a Metroid stage.
- Represents Brawl without question as one of the most significant songs to the Norfair stage.
- Fitting, considering Pyrosphere and Norfair share various similarities.
Series: Super Smash Bros.
Game of Origin: Super Smash Bros. Melee
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J_nw1Pl6mYs
[/collapse]
- Melee representation. Not Hyrule Temple classic, but still rather well remembered and received as a classic Melee song.
- Fitting with the tone of Pyrosphere. The transitioning tempos and tunes of the song are likely to compliment the transitioning nature of the Pyrosphere stage (holes, lava,
Ridley, etc.)

PYROSPHERE TRACKLIST
Name: Ridley's Theme
Origin: Metroid: Other M (Wii, 2010)
Reason: Very little needs to be explained if you know Metroid. On a stage where Samus originally fought iconic villain Ridley, this feels right at home. Dramatic orchestra. Movie-styled presentation. Overpowering tempo.
Name: Final Mission Resolve
Origin: Metroid: Other M (Wii, 2010)
Reason: I haven't played Other M (or The Prime trilogy, HO****), so I'm unfamiliar where this belongs in significance. However, I can say that it sounds pretty damn smooth. It has a similar feel to Ridley's theme, but has parts emitting a more heroic, triumphant feeling from it's instruments. Considering they're the only Other M tracks on my list, they go hand in hand with each other nicely, honoring both the main hero and the main villain with a theme to call their own.
Name: Main Theme (Metroid)
Origin: Metroid (NES, 1986) (SSBB Remix)
Reason: "Samus is under fire! She's sent an emergency directive! JOIN the FIGHT!" This part's what sold me. A cheesy introduction, followed an 80's-like rock remix of the original Metroid theme is too strong. It works in tandem with the blazing fiery atmosphere and destroyed environment, as it did on the Norfair stage.
Name: Samus' Mission Medley
Tracks (in order):
Origin: The Metroid Universe
- Metroid - Intro (0:00-0:20)
- Metroid 2 (GB, 1991) - Intro (0:42-1:20)
- Super Metroid - Prologue (0:00-0:50)
- Metroid Prime - Menu Theme - (0:07-42)
- Metroid Prime 2 - Title Screen (0:18-1:16)
- Metroid Prime 3 - Crisis (0:00-0:29) (followed by quick silence after cymbal crash, then...)
- Metroid: Zero Mission (GBA, 2004) - Finale / Credits (0:19-0:58)
- Samus' Fanfare Introduction
Reason: My way of paying tribute to Samus' legacy in one medley, using a selection of themes used on title screens/intros/briefing cutscenes/etc. This medley is, intentionally, different from the rest as it acknowledges and emphasises Samus' character; her determination, her duty, and her achievements in saving the galaxy and pulling herself out of the most dire circumstances. Not to mention her bravery for always venturing into the unknown. And after all the crap she goes through, she always re-emerges as the medley ends on her famous fanfare introduction.
Name: Magmoor Caverns / Lower Norfair
Origin: Metroid Prime (GC, 2002) / Super Metroid (SNES, 1994)
Reason: Probably next to Ridley's Theme in the no-brainers category. The prior being a remix of the latter, they both originate in the lava depths of said locations. The music trades drama for a more ominous tone with its tribal chants and beating drums. From a game where fans regard every single track as memorable (Super Metroid), it'd be ignorant not to include this.
Name: Dark Samus
Origin: Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (Wii, 2007)
Reason: A memorable character of the Prime trilogy (because title character + dark version = instant fame. Just look at Dark Pit, Dark Link and Luigi.) So a terrifying battle theme belonging to Dark Samus makes sense here. Outside of being popular, the screeching violins and pulsing rhythm works wonders on Pyrosphere.
Name: Final Boss, Gorea
Origin: Metroid Prime Hunters (DS, 2006)
Reason: Gotta give dem handheld games recognition, too. This tune seems pretty popular in this OST, but that's not the only reason I chose it. A very beatboxing, drum'n'bass track with a sci-fi/techno spin added to it makes this tune pretty catchy. I especially love the introduction where it starts ambient, before rolling into its fast tempo.
Name: Brinstar Depths
Origin: Super Smash Bros. Melee (GC, 2001)
Reason: Returning track from SSBM's Brinstar stage. This song changes up the variety in this tracklist by focusing on creating a more ambient atmosphere, with its classical melody and chilling piano tones. (kind of reminds me of a secluded castle.) This tune also pays homage to Melee's stellar ost, as well as Brawl.
You forgot Metroid Fusion. Here's my list. Enjoy.
You forgot Metroid Fusion.
Metroid Fusion is a handheld title. And Metroid has plenty of console titles to pull from. Fusion should be saved for the handheld Metroid stage. You forgot Metroid Fusion.
Pretty certain Pyrosphere will be shared between both games.Metroid Fusion is a handheld title. And Metroid has plenty of console titles to pull from. Fusion should be saved for the handheld Metroid stage.
Just like how Skyloft is, right?Pretty certain Pyrosphere will be shared between both games.
Sakurai never stated that ALL console stages would be on the Wii U version and that ALL handheld stages would be on the 3DS versions. There will still be some shared stages between both versions. I don't necessarily think Pyrosphere will be one of them, but still.Just like how Skyloft is, right?
No seriously I don't understand this thinking at all. Why do you think it won't be console exclusive?
True, but even if Pyrosphere was a shared stage, that doesn't mean it'd have the same music. Not when we have a wealth of handheld titles to draw influence from.Sakurai never stated that ALL console stages would be on the Wii U version and that ALL handheld stages would be on the 3DS versions. For stages like Battlefield and Final Destination, sure, that's understood, but even so the former is still different stages aesthetically between versions, meaning we won't get carbon copy stages for sure. Chances are that a stage for a character that was exclusively only on one platform will just not get a counterpart to the other Smash Bros. version. Nintendogs comes to mind as an example for that, being appropriate as a handheld stage but rather out of place for if the Wii U version got a Nintendogs stage as well, despite the series never having appeared on a console.Sakurai never stated that ALL console stages would be on the Wii U version and that ALL handheld stages would be on the 3DS versions. If they didn't share the stage, it'd be to lower the effort involved in creating a Metroid stage. If they wanted to lower the amount of something, it wouldn't make sense to suddenly go through the extra effort of including new songs too. It's inefficient for a decision made to be efficient. We'll either get two entirely different stages with different soundtracks or just one that's the same between versions.True, but even if Pyrosphere was a shared stage, that doesn't mean it'd have the same music. Monty Python, my good sir. Now I'll have to go look up Mel Brooks' now. Never knew...Which Inquisition are you referencing, Monty Python or Mel Brooks? Eh, love them both.
Oh, and I'm going to suck this round. I can tell already. May the best God Robert's Cousin win!
Almost forgot-I will not join this roundI am not a sore loserI am busy with school, moving, and my birthday yesterday!![]()
There is a big difference between a game series that has had two, maybe three if you count the Trilogy edition, games in between Brawl and this game, versus a series with five games, going on six, spread across different systems. Sakurai never said every stage would be exclusive to the library of each system, rather that some of them will be; otherwise, where does that leave titles like Metroid (console), Pokémon (handheld), Kid Icarus (handheld), Fire Emblem (handheld), Earthbound (console-ish), Star Fox (handheld-ish), Pikmin (console), Wii Fit (console), F-Zero (no game), Ice Climbers (no game) or Game and Watch (no game)? Start applying the logic, it doesn't make any sense; unless Sakurai is going to leave characters without their respective series stages for different consoles. Do you really think Megaman is going to have a different stage? Series like Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong, Kirby, Yoshi, Wario, Animal Crossing; of course it makes sense if these series have -- or could in some cases -- console exclusive stages, because they have or will have games across both platforms.Just like how Skyloft is, right?

Back to the original conversation about Pyrosphere.
Not gonna lie. If Baby Park actually was on Pyrosphere, I would probably turn the likelihood of the song up to 100% in My Music.8. Name: Baby Park
