It was the Wii U's turn.

What were you expecting?
The Spanish Inquisition? Eh, eh? Too obscure? Okay then. I'll try again.

Expecting Arena Ferox? TOO BAD. Baby Pyrosphere time! ...That doesn't even make sense! Dangit!

I apparently fail at trolling, too. Time to go make a track list that kicks GRC's track list's butt. Then I'll go mope in my corner like the hated 3rd party candidate that I am.

Which Inquisition are you referencing, Monty Python or Mel Brooks? Eh, love them both.

Oh, and I'm going to suck this round. I can tell already. May the best God Robert's Cousin win!

I guess I'll do this one. Not too confident that I'll win though!
1. Ridley Battle (Metroid: Other M)
2. Main Theme (Metroid/Super Smash Bros. Brawl)
(this one fit the best, that's why I'm using it)
3. Menu Select (Metroid Prime)
4. Dark Samus Battle (Metroid Prime 3: Corruption)
5. Magmoor Caverns (Metroid Prime)
6. Multiplayer (Metroid Prime 2: Echoes)
7. Tallon Overworld (Theme 2) (Metroid Prime)
8. Theme of Samus Aran, Space Warrior (Super Metroid/Super Smash Bros. Brawl)

Aesthetically, this stage is like a combination of Norfair and Frigate Orpheon. So, I kinda did a small merger and this was the end result. Magmoor Caverns is a remix of Norfair, so that's why I included it. I only included one track from Other M since I think that the Ridley battle theme would be most fitting here. I didn't want to include the Meta Ridley or Omega Ridley themes to at least have some variety. I think that I overkilled on the Metroid Prime songs though...

I don't think I'll win. But eh, this was a fun set to make. If I get in last (or close to there), I wouldn't be surprised.

Burn baby, burn.

Metroid: Other M - Ridley
Metroid: Other M - Vorash
Metroid: Other M - Queen Metroid
Metroid Prime - Magmoor Caverns
Metroid: Zero Mission - Kraid's Lair
Metroid II - SR388
Metroid - Norfair (Brawl)
Super Metroid - Vs. Ridley (Brawl)

"Ridley" is, and should be, the most obvious song choice selection for this stage -- considering everything about the location the stage is taken from revolves around Ridley. "Vorash" is a reference to the fact that the battle took place below in the Pyrosphere, but it's also one of the better boss tracks in the game. Has a Metal Gear Solid vibe. "Queen Metroid" is about as grandiose a final theme you can have in a Metroid game. "Magmoor Caverns" is a great song from Prime and fits the theme of the stage very well. Why shouldn't it? "Kraid's Lair", also known as Brinstar Depths, depending on which game you play, is a throwback with a bit of new flavor. Youtube's compression protocols were not very kind to this track, but don't hold quality against the song. Obviously it'd be better in game. "SR388" brings back some memories. I imagine the song would stay in it's original form. Gameboy chiptunes are timeless. "Norfair" is a throwback track to Brawl. Obviously Pyrosphere is satisfying the "Metroid stage with lava everywhere" requirement for SSB4, so I think it's only fair that the premier lava track from the last game make it's home here. Lastly, "Vs. Ridley" also returns. Reason I can justify two Ridley songs on one stage -- besides the fact that Frigate Orpheon did it -- is because both tracks offer very different takes on the same theme, just as "Meta Ridley" contrasted the other Ridley track in the last game. One is an epic, orchestrated masterpiece capturing the emotion of a horrible monster returning from some distant nightmare, long forgotten; the other is filled with fast paced guitar riffs and frantic speed.

Honorable mentions: "Theme of Samus Aran, Space Warrior" almost made this list, but I ultimately dropped it for the other Ridley track based upon two assumptions: 1) this is bound to be Ridley's home stage; if he happens to be playable. Even if not, it's more important to his lore than Samus'. 2) There will likely be another Metroid stage based around Metroid Prime, and just making educated guesses of what those possibilities are, I believe Samus' theme would probably suit any of those stages better than Pyrosphere. "Desbrachian" was another song I wanted to include with my list of Other M tracks, but it was way too repetitive, and considering I was docked by certain judges for the Vaati track I included last time, I wanted to avoid a similar mistake. "Brinstar" broke my heart to leave out. In the end I felt both Brawl selections were more important to the theme of the stage and offered the best variety. If there wasn't an eight track cap, you could bet your bottom dollar "Brinstar" would be number nine.

After careful consideration, I have decided to limit my choices to songs from the non-Prime games. In Brawl, we had Norfair for Metroid and Super, then we had Frigate Orpheon for the Prime games, so I can see something similar happening here. (I totally expect Metroid to get two stages due to having two in Melee and three in Brawl.) Without further ado, here's my list!

Name: Samus Appears/Brinstar
Universe: Metroid
Origin: Metroid (NES - 1987)
Link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RLSWSISFxWU (I want it to sound something like this.)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nt3gwBT7KNs (Original versions for reference)
Reason: This is pretty much the main theme of Metroid, plus I've always loved that little fanfare that plays when Samus appears. For the song, I imagine the big fanfare will kick things off, then we'll get a killer rock version of the Brinstar theme which will loop until the match ends.

Name: VS. Ridley
Universe: Metroid
Origin: Metroid: Other M (Wii - 2010)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fje8t9Jyy-o
Reason: Another iconic song, which I totally expect to be here since you fight Ridley on this stage in Other M. I also think that you'll be fighting Ridley here to unlock him with this song playing in the background. I picked this version because it's from the same game as the stage, and I like the length compared to older versions of the song.

Name: Final Mission Resolve
Universe: Metroid
Origin: Metroid: Other M (Wii - 2010)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bxv4odiTNQg
Reason: I think this song is really cool, plus it plays towards the end of the game when you finally get to unlock all your powerups and rush to the finale, hence the title. Might be a bit short, but I could see some cool things being done like adding guitars to the second loop or throwing in an extended arrangement.

Name: VS. Metroid Queen/VS. Phantoon
Universe: Metroid
Origin: Metroid: Other M (Wii - 2010)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2lBDdaNmudc
Reason: As a final boss theme, it makes for some intense music. I imagine the Sm4sh version to have a choir to mix things up and make it sound more impressive. (don't know which parts though.) Also, the Metroid Queen has been a final boss in two of the non-Prime games, so shout-outs to that.

Name: Lower Norfair/Magmoor Caverns
Universe: Metroid
Origin: Super Metroid (SNES - 1994)/Metroid Prime (GCN - 2002)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQCZIb0fbt8
Reason: The original song appeared in Super Metroid, but the version I linked to is the Prime remix, which I think sounds cooler. Lower Norfair was a major part of Super Metroid, being where Ridley's lair was located. I think this song has been long overdue for an appearance in Smash and I think with guitars and a choir it would be spine-tingling awesome.

Name: Crateria Surface
Universe: Metroid
Origin: Super Metroid (SNES - 1994)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uEKnnsS4P4w
Reason: Not only is this an awesome song, but it also plays during the climatic final battle of Super Metroid, which is recreated as the opening FMV of Other M. This song would be epic with a higher quality sound chip.

Name: Brinstar - Overgrown with Vegetation
Universe: Metroid
Origin: Super Metroid (SNES - 1994)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zLcyg4Tq5uY
Reason: Just a really cool overall song, which I think would be fun to fight to and provide a nice contrast to the other songs, which are heavy rock/choir pieces.

Name: Super Metroid Title/Opening
Universe: Metroid
Origin: Super Metroid (SNES - 1994)
Links:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPT8GBdRCWE (Title)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5vYsVk23oxA (Opening/Main Theme)
Reason: Both of these pieces are very well known, with the title having appeared in Metroid, Fusion, Zero Mission, Super, and Other M. I imagine the title will play to around the 50 minute mark, then we'll get the opening, which is also the Main Theme of Super Metroid. I know I say this alot, but the second loop of the main theme could have a different arrangement like guitars, choir, strings, techno, whatever to make it longer/stand on its own.

So that's my entry. Hopefully I don't get knocked too hard for variety, and I hope I can get at least 2nd place! (But GCR will probably win since he's been wanting to do this forever.)

Other M - Ridley
Metroid - Brinstar
Metroid 2- SR388
Super Metroid - Lower Norfair
- Should be noted it was remixed to serve as the theme for Magmoor Caverns in Prime
Prime 3 - Rundas Battle
Other M - Mystery Creature
Other M - Vorash
Super Metroid - Theme of Samus Aran (Brawl)

It's funny I've owned a copy of Other M for more than a year now and I haven't even with it yet beyond seeing if the disc worked in the disc drive. Searching through music I'm kinda surprised how little of it is suited for fighting beyond boss fights, it's way too soft and eerie (almost to the extent there's no music at all).

Would hope that Arena Ferox or a 3rd Party stage is next.

I was expecting Arena Ferox, but I can work with this. I'm just glad it's not the Nintendogs or Pikmin stage. Anyhow, I'll try to follow the judges' advice and have less Brawl and handheld songs. Here's my list:

Name: Vs. Ridley
Origin: Super Metroid
Franchise: Metroid
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=90f9wfZKF9o

Name: Vorash Battle/Airlock
Origin: Metroid: Other M
Franchise: Metroid
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hn2rYj16Vm8

Name: Queen Metroid/Phantoon Battle
Origin: Metroid: Other M
Franchise: Metroid
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2lBDdaNmudc

Name: Norfair
Origin: Metroid
Franchise: Metroid
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-oY6TvKdlWQ
Notes: While the Brawl remix was fairly catchy, I greatly prefer the Zero Mission version and I think it would fit the stage really well if it were remastered.

Name: Lower Norfair
Origin: Super Metroid
Franchise: Metroid
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lp_1CyQjGnY
Notes: While Magmoor Caverns is a fine remix, it isn't nearly as epic or tense as the song could be and should be for a stage like this, so I chose the Nintendo Land version instead. Yeah, I know it's a weird source for a remix, but it fits the stage surprisingly well. They should just tone down the chanting a little bit.

Name: Brinstar Depths
Origin: Metroid
Franchise: Metroid
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENu2bPhcmoI

Name: Multiplayer (Metroid Prime 2)
Origin: Metroid Prime 2: Echoes (although it's a remix of a theme from Super Metroid)
Franchise: Metroid

Name: Space Pirates Battle
Origin: Metroid Prime

ROUND EIGHT: Pyrosphere (Wii U)

The long awaited Metroid stage is finally up for your list! GRC, you excited? Let's see what kind of space tunes we can get. There are no confirmed tracks, so it's all up to you!
The Baby...

YES OKAY MUCH OF THANK TO YOU swampasaur is a wonderful person

Although Other M did not have many songs to work with, I still find it important to make sure that it gets decent representation in SSB4 for the reason that it is obviously the game much of Metroid will be based off of this time around. As such, I won't plague the list with shoddy choices, but I'll certainly make sure Other M isn't just nonexistent to the soundtrack.

Also, console songs only. Fusion and Metroid II can wait for the handheld Metroid stage.

Name: Versus Ridley
Series: Metroid
Game of Origin: Metroid: Other M
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=90f9wfZKF9o
  • Considering that this is the song actually associated with the stage, I don't think too much justification is needed here.
  • If it is: Ridley's theme is absolutely iconic to the series. This rendition is both recent, very well done in composition, and fitting for the stage. Perfect.
Name: Versus King Kihunter
Series: Metroid
Game of Origin: Metroid: Other M
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QjxIaLPD9b8
  • One of the songs new to Other M. Kihunters are very recurrent to the series, meaning a little acknowledgment wouldn't hurt for the veteran enemies, right?
  • Fitting to the stage's tone. Very tense with a lot of percussion--you can feel the action about to ensue. Grit in a song goes very well with metal environments and rushing pours of lava.
Name: Samus's Resolve
Series: Metroid
Game of Origin: Metroid: Other M
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bxv4odiTNQg
  • One of the better songs of Other M, in my opinion. Sounds rather triumphant and eerie at the same time--a good song for sure that can give chills.
  • I won't go as far as to say that this could measure up to Samus's Theme from Super Metroid, but I must admit that a theme like this is still very well fitting for Samus as a character while still fitting for the stage's tension.
Name: Magmoor Caverns
Series: Metroid
Game of Origin: Metroid Prime / Super Metroid
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQCZIb0fbt8
*Note that this is a remix of Lower Norfair from Super Metroid and would ideally be as such. Original: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UgHkrY6v-Ko
  • I'm sure absolutely everyone is surprised at the lack of Lower Norfair's/Magmoor Caverns' inclusion in Brawl. The song is absolutely godly within the Metroid franchise.
  • Originates from a very hot place featuring a lot of lava, warm colors with dark floorings, and a Ridley fight. I challenge you to give me a reason why this doesn't fit. Just one. Seriously, it can't be done!
  • Doubles as both Super Metroid and Prime 1 representation.
Name: Escape
Series: Metroid
Game of Origin: Metroid Prime 2: Echoes / Metroid
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Unkrc1saV2A
Note: This is a remix of the Escape Theme from Metroid and would ideally be as such. Original: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dfdoJNBkgg4
  • Classic to the series, having appeared since the very first game. When Ridley's theme isn't being used instead, this is the song you hear as Samus escapes from something blowing up.
  • Doubles as Metroid 1 and Prime 2 representation.
  • One of the darker possible picks for a Metroid song without dipping into other songs of subjective notoriety from other Metroid games, especially Prime 2.
Name: Space Pirates Battle
Series: Metroid
Game of Origin: Metroid Prime / Metroid Prime 2: Echoes / Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
Note: This is a medley of the three different versions of the same theme from the Metroid Prime series. Different versions would shift throughout the song.
Prime (Beginning - 0:45): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RdebQ-y15Dg
Prime 2 (0:40 - 1:10): http://youtu.be/5iSU5LPYczE?t=40s
Prime 3 (Beginning - 0:38): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0zmbFSVAOtI
Repeat the cycle starting at Prime 1's rendition at 0:26.
Full medley (created by myself): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oiA6QPglJRs
Note: Yes, the transitions aren't perfect, but it makes it easier to imagine in your head when you have a video to do that for you, no?
  • That's a lot to absorb, isn't it? A medley of the same melody may seem rather repetitive, but you'll find that the result is surprisingly effective in what it can achieve. The songs by themselves are rather short, but when combined into multiple parts form a melody that stays fresh for quite a long time, all thanks to shifting instrumentation. For that reason, a medley becomes objectively the best way to include the Space Pirate Battle themes without favoring one version over another.
  • Representation of an entire trilogy in one track? Certainly important, if I say so myself.
  • The songs manage to capture a non-aggressive form of unease compared to other Metroid choices. Rather than being outright dark or action-packed, Space Pirate theme manages to provide a sort of looming type of tension, one that motivates fighting not through adrenaline or vengeance, but self-defense alone. In other words, melody with a psychological effect to boot.
Name: Main Theme (Metroid)
Series: Super Smash Bros.
Game of Origin: Super Smash Bros. Brawl
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3MRznLSFGFQ
  • Essential to the series. No Smash Bros. is a Smash Bros. I'd like to play without this theme being present for a Metroid stage.
  • Represents Brawl without question as one of the most significant songs to the Norfair stage.
  • Fitting, considering Pyrosphere and Norfair share various similarities.
Name: Brinstar Depths
Series: Super Smash Bros.
Game of Origin: Super Smash Bros. Melee
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J_nw1Pl6mYs
  • Melee representation. Not Hyrule Temple classic, but still rather well remembered and received as a classic Melee song.
  • Fitting with the tone of Pyrosphere. The transitioning tempos and tunes of the song are likely to compliment the transitioning nature of the Pyrosphere stage (holes, lava, Ridley, etc.)

My list:

Name: Vs. Ridley
Game of Origin: Metroid: Other M
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oze6A1rBFJg
Description: The obvious choice.

Name: Vs. Mystery Creature
Game of Origin: Metroid: Other M
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PPCeACVtJ2Q
Description: Much like the main Ridley theme had the Meta Ridley theme to support it on Frigate Orpheon, I'm going to put the Mystery Creature theme to support the main Ridley theme this time. It's a pretty vague mix of the Ridley theme, but it makes a name for itself.

Name: Samus's Resolve
Game of Origin: Metroid: Other M
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2U1KeviY_g8
Description: While Other M has ambience music for the most part, this is one of the standout tracks. It sounds heroic, gets you somewhat pumped, and it'd be great for a fighting stage.

Name: Norfair
Game of Origin: Metroid: Zero Mission
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vluIbgQyQM4
Description: I chose this Norfair track over the original one because it's better at giving the warm feeling of being in a hot cave. While it's essentially just a remix of the old Norfair theme, it's still different enough to warrant a Smash Bros remix, despite having a classic remix in Brawl. They did the same with the Brinstar theme from Melee to Brawl.

Name: Lower Norfair
Game of Origin: Super Metroid
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UgHkrY6v-Ko
Description: The fire theme of Metroid, it's even used in Magmoor Caverns in Metroid Prime. Just listening to the track makes me feel like the heat is crawling up. It's a mistake that it wasn't in Brawl to begin with.

Name: Final Mission
Game of Origin: Metroid Fusion
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=57CXTH7CZd0
Description: The most memorable track from Fusion imo, it has a sort of heroic feel to it, but still goes into a beautiful phase too. It's a track that really brings forth your courage.

Name: Vs Quadraxis
Game of Origin: Metroid Prime 2: Echoes
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UF183gVG0dc
Description: Metroid Prime 2 had no music in Brawl iirc, and to try and strike a balance between the songs that give a feeling of overwhelming warmth, I'm going to throw in the Quadraxis theme to give the feeling of the iron and steel that the Pyrosphere is also build of.

Name: Vs Rundas
Game of Origin: Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RCjZTxGUzMI
Description: On first look this might seem like an ironic choice, considering Rundas uses ice at his disposal. However, Bryyo, the planet where you fight Rundas, is an ironic location to fight Rundas, since it's an acid and lava filled planet. It's also one of the most praised tracks from the Metroid Prime series.

I'm expecting either Frigate Orpheon, Brinstar Depths or Norfair to return as classic stages, so the Metroid tracks from Melee and Brawl can go there.

After missing last round largely due to my own laziness, Toon Link is back.
Predicting a 100-0 match-up between Toon Link and Ridley in Smash 4. :p

Name: Lower Norfair - Ridley's Lair
Origin: Super Metroid (SNES - 1994)
Universe: Metroid

This one's THE song...it's like Ridley's own non-battle theme and the Super Metroid version has the strongest, most dangerous and looming feeling between all of the remixes. Magmoor Caverns is good, but the paused drumbeat and slight differences of the original make it seem like a much more brutal, primal song...of course it'd need to be orchestrated, but keeping the whole composition and original feeling intact, a bit like a more serious-sounding version of the Nintendo Land rendition.

Name: Ridley Battle
Origin: Metroid: Other M (Wii - 2011)
Universe: Metroid
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=90f9wfZKF9o
Probably the second-best version of the Ridley Battle theme from Super Metroid, it's violent, dangerous and fast-paced (Like everyone's favorite purple space dragon!) while staying true to the original. Though, there's a slight detail that'd make this theme absolutely perfect...and that would be adding the guitars from the SSBB version, or replacing some instrument with them, especially the breakdown around 0:28 to 0:35. That part just sounds so awesome!

Name: In The Deepest Regions of Space...
Origin: Metroid Series
Universe: Metroid
Links:
Metroid - Title Theme until 0:59...it starts out being 8-Bit and as it reaches 0:29 it gradually turns into a full orchestra with a soothing chorus, going on until 0:59 as it transitions into Samus Aran, Space Warrior, which starts from the 0:25 mark, now sounding more serious and going on until 0:50 when it turns into Metroid Prime - Main Theme from the 0:14 mark to 0:55, using the Metroid Prime - Echoes Theme as a transition point from 0:19 to 0:29, fading to Metroid Prime - Corruption Main Theme from the 0:30 mark to the 1:10, the orchestration getting much more intense and specially eerie at this point before smoothly transitioning into the Other M - Credits Theme from the start to 0:42, where it will finally turn into a fully-orchestrated (More than Brawl's) version of Metroid's Credits Theme from 0:19 to the end, going off with a huge bang and then looping...although the song's designed for long battles, you'll rarely hear the entire song during a battle.

Name: Metroid Queen / Phantoon Final Boss
Origin: Metroid: Other M (Wii - 2011)
Universe: Metroid
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2lBDdaNmudc
Really good choice for the stage...it sounds very desperate, like all Metroid final bosses should. I would change the pacing up a little with some slight guitar highlights and some stronger percussion to fit Smash Brothers better.

Name: Surface Runner/SR388
Origin: Metroid II - Return Of Samus (Gameboy - 1991)
Universe: Metroid
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QAr1RNZmmYc
Just finished Metroid II on the 3DS a few days ago. It's a great game with some amazing music that hasn't been remixed for some reason...Although Surface Runner's kinda cheery for a stage like the Pyrosphere, an orchestration similar to the one used in the Tetris themes (Keep the 8-Bit as part of the song, build upon it) could make for a very interesting "Lava Factory" feeling.

Name: Rundas Battle
Origin: Metroid Prime: Corruption (Wii - 2007)
Universe: Metroid
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RCjZTxGUzMI
At first I was like "I should really save this for a Phaaze stage" but it also felt wrong to not include it on the list, so I decided to do it anyway...! But if a Phaaze stage comes along, I'm gonna use this in that list :I What can I say? This is simply one of the most emotional and breathtaking themes in the Metroid series...it's kinda like the game introduces you to all of these likeable characters and you start liking them and thinking "Samus finally has some friends" and then it rips you back into reality, you're alone again.

Name: Samus' Resolve
Origin: Metroid: Other M (Wii - 2011)
Universe: Metroid
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bxv4odiTNQg
This theme is really heroic and seems to fit the stage nicely...I would throw in bits and pieces of Samus' Main Theme here and there, like Ducktales Remastered did with throwing the Moon theme and the Ducktales theme into all of the songs.

Name: Main Theme (Metroid)
Origin: SSBB (2007)
Universe: Metroid
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3MRznLSFGFQ
I don't think anything needs to be said about this song here...the guitar and the 8-Bit part explain it better.

Here's my list. Enjoy.

PYROSPHERE TRACKLIST

Name: Ridley's Theme
Origin: Metroid: Other M (Wii, 2010)
Reason: Very little needs to be explained if you know Metroid. On a stage where Samus originally fought iconic villain Ridley, this feels right at home. Dramatic orchestra. Movie-styled presentation. Overpowering tempo.

Name: Final Mission Resolve
Origin: Metroid: Other M (Wii, 2010)
Reason: I haven't played Other M (or The Prime trilogy, HO****), so I'm unfamiliar where this belongs in significance. However, I can say that it sounds pretty damn smooth. It has a similar feel to Ridley's theme, but has parts emitting a more heroic, triumphant feeling from it's instruments. Considering they're the only Other M tracks on my list, they go hand in hand with each other nicely, honoring both the main hero and the main villain with a theme to call their own.

Name: Main Theme (Metroid)
Origin: Metroid (NES, 1986) (SSBB Remix)
Reason: "Samus is under fire! She's sent an emergency directive! JOIN the FIGHT!" This part's what sold me. A cheesy introduction, followed an 80's-like rock remix of the original Metroid theme is too strong. It works in tandem with the blazing fiery atmosphere and destroyed environment, as it did on the Norfair stage.

Name: Samus' Mission Medley
Tracks (in order):
  1. Metroid - Intro (0:00-0:20)
  2. Metroid 2 (GB, 1991) - Intro (0:42-1:20)
  3. Super Metroid - Prologue (0:00-0:50)
  4. Metroid Prime - Menu Theme - (0:07-42)
  5. Metroid Prime 2 - Title Screen (0:18-1:16)
  6. Metroid Prime 3 - Crisis (0:00-0:29) (followed by quick silence after cymbal crash, then...)
  7. Metroid: Zero Mission (GBA, 2004) - Finale / Credits (0:19-0:58)
  8. Samus' Fanfare Introduction
Origin: The Metroid Universe
Reason: My way of paying tribute to Samus' legacy in one medley, using a selection of themes used on title screens/intros/briefing cutscenes/etc. This medley is, intentionally, different from the rest as it acknowledges and emphasises Samus' character; her determination, her duty, and her achievements in saving the galaxy and pulling herself out of the most dire circumstances. Not to mention her bravery for always venturing into the unknown. And after all the crap she goes through, she always re-emerges as the medley ends on her famous fanfare introduction.

Name: Magmoor Caverns / Lower Norfair
Origin: Metroid Prime (GC, 2002) / Super Metroid (SNES, 1994)
Reason: Probably next to Ridley's Theme in the no-brainers category. The prior being a remix of the latter, they both originate in the lava depths of said locations. The music trades drama for a more ominous tone with its tribal chants and beating drums. From a game where fans regard every single track as memorable (Super Metroid), it'd be ignorant not to include this.

Name: Dark Samus
Origin: Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (Wii, 2007)
Reason: A memorable character of the Prime trilogy (because title character + dark version = instant fame. Just look at Dark Pit, Dark Link and Luigi.) So a terrifying battle theme belonging to Dark Samus makes sense here. Outside of being popular, the screeching violins and pulsing rhythm works wonders on Pyrosphere.

Name: Final Boss, Gorea
Origin: Metroid Prime Hunters (DS, 2006)
Reason: Gotta give dem handheld games recognition, too. This tune seems pretty popular in this OST, but that's not the only reason I chose it. A very beatboxing, drum'n'bass track with a sci-fi/techno spin added to it makes this tune pretty catchy. I especially love the introduction where it starts ambient, before rolling into its fast tempo.

Name: Brinstar Depths
Origin: Super Smash Bros. Melee (GC, 2001)
Reason: Returning track from SSBM's Brinstar stage. This song changes up the variety in this tracklist by focusing on creating a more ambient atmosphere, with its classical melody and chilling piano tones. (kind of reminds me of a secluded castle.) This tune also pays homage to Melee's stellar ost, as well as Brawl.

Ridley's Theme. Universe: Metroid. Originally from Metroid: Other M.

I think everyone would agree theres no need to explain why I included this song.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQCZIb0fbt8

Magmoor Caverns. Universe: Metroid. Originally from Metroid: Other M.

A remastered version of the Lower Norfair/Ridley's Lair theme from Super Metroid. It fits well with the backround of the stage in my eyes. I can't think of any good reason to NOT include it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DSsFX9vN-OE

Dark Samus' Theme. Universe: Metroid. Originally from Metroid Prime 3: Corruption.

A theme that, given it's eerie feel, though at the same time fitting a battle well, makes for a suitable song choice for this stage in my eyes.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2lBDdaNmudc

Metroid Queen/Phantoon theme. Universe: Metroid. Originally from Metroid: Other M.

This song has a desperate, struggling feel to it. And it's technically the final boss theme of Other M. I can't think of a good reason why it shouldn't be in the stage.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VcpVyER_UTA

Omega Ridley. Universe: Metroid. Originally from Metroid Prime 3: Corruption.

One of the three versions of Ridley's theme (counting the Mystery Creature's theme) that has yet to be in Smash (aside from any direct rips of a version of his theme from a 2D Metroid game) and it differs so significantly that I think it's fair enough to include it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ai2dhNW0-sc

Brinstar Red Soil Swampy area. Universe: Metroid. Originally from Super Metroid.

I personally feel this stage would do better off mainly using songs that have connections to recurring Metroid enemies, also themes that don't have a victorious feel to them, which is why I didn't include Samus' main theme on this stage. (some more reason I'd have behind this is that seeing as how it could work as a playable Ridley's home stage, it should mostly have songs relating to him and major villains from the Metroid series. In a similar regard, a Bowser's Castle stage would probably mostly have songs relating to Bowser, his lair, or other bosses or villains from the Mario series. This is all assuming we'll get a second Other M stage.)

Although the Red Soil theme may need to be remastered for this stage, I can see it working well with the atmosphere of this stage. And some fairly slow songs have been in Smash stages before, and have worked out just fine in them.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JZw9wWmcXH4

Norfair. Universe: Metroid. Originally from Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

Of all the possible returning Metroid songs from Brawl, I think this one best suits this new stage.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZG-wiA1670k

Mystery Creature Battle. Universe: Metroid. Originally from Metroid: Other M.

I think this song is a bit imporant seeing as how it's the battle theme of Ridley's adolescent stage, and Samus' had no idea what she was fighting was actually a yet to be fully grown clone of her arch-enemy. Overall this part of the game is a fairly big plot point iny my eyes.

Metroid Fusion is a handheld title. And Metroid has plenty of console titles to pull from. Fusion should be saved for the handheld Metroid stage.
Pretty certain Pyrosphere will be shared between both games.

Just like how Skyloft is, right?

No seriously I don't understand this thinking at all. Why do you think it won't be console exclusive?
Sakurai never stated that ALL console stages would be on the Wii U version and that ALL handheld stages would be on the 3DS versions. There will still be some shared stages between both versions. I don't necessarily think Pyrosphere will be one of them, but still.

True, but even if Pyrosphere was a shared stage, that doesn't mean it'd have the same music. Not when we have a wealth of handheld titles to draw influence from.

For stages like Battlefield and Final Destination, sure, that's understood, but even so the former is still different stages aesthetically between versions, meaning we won't get carbon copy stages for sure. Chances are that a stage for a character that was exclusively only on one platform will just not get a counterpart to the other Smash Bros. version. Nintendogs comes to mind as an example for that, being appropriate as a handheld stage but rather out of place for if the Wii U version got a Nintendogs stage as well, despite the series never having appeared on a console.

All this said, Pyrosphere was from one console game of an entire series. There's no doubt that the handheld version will get its own stage based on a different entry of the series, considering Metroid is definitely big enough to Smash Bros. to have more than just one stage shared between platforms. We can expect to see something from Metroid Fusion as the handheld stage in SSB4, no doubt.

If they didn't share the stage, it'd be to lower the effort involved in creating a Metroid stage. If they wanted to lower the amount of something, it wouldn't make sense to suddenly go through the extra effort of including new songs too. It's inefficient for a decision made to be efficient. We'll either get two entirely different stages with different soundtracks or just one that's the same between versions.

Metroid isn't one of the series' I regularly played, but I still appreciate the music!

Name: Intro Theme
Universe: Metroid
Origin: Super Metroid (1994)
Reason: One of my favorite Metroid tracks of all time, and a classic tune from the one of the most highly regarded games in the series. I like the eerie atmosphere it gives off without sacrificing the kid of intensity you want a fight song to have.
Name: Vs Ridley
Universe: Metroid
Origin: Metroid: Other M (2010)
Reason: What? Vs Ridley? What an unexpected surprise! Yeah, this one is on everyone's list and for good reason. Besides the stage relevancy, it is also a kick-ass battle track.
Name: Hunters - Brinstar Jungle Floor
Universe: Metroid
Origin: Metroid Prime 2: Echoes (2004)
Reason: The multiplayer rendition of the track. Great energy and feel to it.
Name: Pyrosphere Industrial Theme
Universe: Metroid
Origin: Metroid: Other M (2010)
Reason: Not much for music here, more of an atmosphere piece. Fits the stage theme, obviously, and is a nice break from the heavier stuff on the rest of the list.
Name: Incinerator Drone
Universe: Metroid
Origin: Metroid Prime (2002)
Reason: This track almost has a serene quality to it, but juxtaposed against the stage, should bring out the quietly intense creepiness of it.
Name: Main Theme
Universe: Metroid
Origin: Super Smash Bros Brawl
Reason: An awesome rendition of the main Metroid theme from Brawl. Bringing it back as is.
Name: Red Soil Area
Universe: Metroid
Origin: Super Metroid (1994)
Reason: Another great Super Metroid track. Remixed for a more appropriate "fighting game" feel.
Name: Mystery Creature
Universe: Metroid
Origin: Metroid: Other M (2010)
Reason: One last Other M track to close out the list. Another well done boss theme.

Which Inquisition are you referencing, Monty Python or Mel Brooks? Eh, love them both.

Oh, and I'm going to suck this round. I can tell already. May the best God Robert's Cousin win!
Monty Python, my good sir. Now I'll have to go look up Mel Brooks' now. Never knew... :p

Okay, got my list ready. Keep in mind that I've not played Other M or any Metroid game for that matter. All I know about Other M is that Ridley is in it, there's some guy you have to remember, and there are a lot of babies. Anyway...

1. Name: VS. Ridley
Universe: Metroid
Game of Origin: Metroid: Other M (Wii, 2010)
www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fje8t9Jyy-o

Reason: Ridley's theme is TOO BIG to not be included! Okay, I didn't even try with that one. But this really needs no explanation.

2. Name: Brinstar Depths
Universe: Metroid
Game of Origin: Metroid (NES, 1987)/Super Smash Bros. Melee (GCN, 2001)
www.youtube.com/watch?v=eGsNKWAEArw

Reason: It's a great Melee track and I think it fits nicely with the stage. Plus the stage had Kraid in it. And maybe, just maybe, he's the enemy from Samus's past to appear...

3. Name: Final Mission Resolve
Universe: Metroid
Game of Origin: Metroid: Other M (Wii, 2010)
www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bxv4odiTNQg

Reason: Here's a track that seems pretty awesome, like on the way to the finale awesome. And I think this fits Smash better than the final boss themes people have on their list.

4. Name: Norfair
Universe: Metroid
Game of Origin: Metroid (NES, 1987)/Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Wii, 2008)
www.youtube.com/watch?v=JZw9wWmcXH4

Reason: A classic Brawl track. It is also a lava filled place and is associated with Ridley, which seems to match up with Pyrosphere pretty well.

5. Name: Pyrosphere Industrial Theme
Universe: Metroid
Game of Origin: Metroid: Other M (Wii, 2010)
www.youtube.com/watch?v=38fnWuwFVzw

Reason: A surprising amount of people didn't include a Pyrosphere track on their lists, despite it being the name of the stage. I guess Ridley's theme counts, but what's wrong with an ambient track to shake things up? Something chilling yet fitting into the atmosphere. Plus it could be remixed.

6. Name: Vs. Parasite Queen
Universe: Metroid
Game of Origin: Metroid Prime (GCN, 2002)
www.youtube.com/watch?v=nxM5_Zl7Eu4

Reason: Some Metroid Prime rep, please! This is a pretty great track that is heard throughout the Prime series. I imagined it playing on Pyrosphere and it seems to match up perfectly, too.

7.Name: Brinstar
Universe: Metroid
Game of Origin: Metroid (NES, 1987)
www.youtube.com/watch?v=WVTzg2kvNaQ

Reason: Well, well! Talk about a surprise, eh? We all know that this classic Metroid theme would return. So yes, no medley on my list this time. Though I did consider some kind of mix between this theme and some others, ultimately I decided to let the piece speak for itself and move on...

8. Name: Baby Park
Universe: Mario
Game of Origin: Mario Kart: Double Dash!! (GCN, 2003)
www.youtube.com/watch?v=y99wX-JZGJo

Reason: THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY THE BABY-

Whoops, sorry about that, folks. My music selection matrix malfunctioned. Let's try again.

REAL 8. Name: Marionation Gear
Universe: Nintendo DS
Game Of Origin: Chosoju Mecha MG (DS, 2006)/Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Wii, 2008)
www.youtube.com/watch?v=85o94ormyXA

Reason: Well, not really an out there track, as it actually played on Norfair in Brawl. But it is an underappreciated track and already has association with Metroid. I feel like it deserves to make a comeback.

I'll probably lose, but at least I have a list I'm pretty satisfied with.

No seriously I don't understand this thinking at all. Why do you think it won't be console exclusive?
There is a big difference between a game series that has had two, maybe three if you count the Trilogy edition, games in between Brawl and this game, versus a series with five games, going on six, spread across different systems. Sakurai never said every stage would be exclusive to the library of each system, rather that some of them will be; otherwise, where does that leave titles like Metroid (console), Pokémon (handheld), Kid Icarus (handheld), Fire Emblem (handheld), Earthbound (console-ish), Star Fox (handheld-ish), Pikmin (console), Wii Fit (console), F-Zero (no game), Ice Climbers (no game) or Game and Watch (no game)? Start applying the logic, it doesn't make any sense; unless Sakurai is going to leave characters without their respective series stages for different consoles. Do you really think Megaman is going to have a different stage? Series like Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong, Kirby, Yoshi, Wario, Animal Crossing; of course it makes sense if these series have -- or could in some cases -- console exclusive stages, because they have or will have games across both platforms.

Back to the original conversation about Pyrosphere.

Back to the original conversation about Pyrosphere.
Where does that leave them? Let's see:

Metroid
Handheld: Metroid Fusion/Metroid II
Console: Metroid: Other M
Pokemon
Handheld: Pokemon X & Y
Console: Pokemon Colosseum/Pokemon Battle Revolution/PokePark
Kid Icarus
Handheld: Kid Icarus: Uprising
Console: Kid Icarus (NES)
Fire Emblem
Handheld: Fire Emblem Awakening
Console: Fire Emblem (NES)/Fire Emblem Tellius
EarthBound
Handheld: Mother 3
Console: EarthBound
Star Fox
Handheld: Star Fox 64 3D/Star Fox Command
Console: Star Fox 64/Star Fox Assault
F-Zero
Handheld: F-Zero Maximum Velocity/F-Zero Climax/F-Zero GP Legend
Console: F-Zero GX
Game & Watch
Handheld: Anything from the pool of Game & Watch games
Console: Nintendo Land's Octopus Dance

Now the only cases where series do not have a handheld counterpart is Pikmin, Wii Fit, and Ice Climbers. We'll obviously get either no handheld for them or just simply get a different location from the same series as a new stage. Things either balance out with the handheld exclusive stages that will exist or get equal representation on both systems nonetheless. Either way, there's absolutely zero reason why a series with as many games as Metroid does would have to use Pyrosphere once again when series equally and big (and some even smaller) have the ability to go dual-platform as well. If a series has a handheld game and a console game, it's not hard to imagine that the handheld game will be on the handheld version while the console game will be on the console version.

Didn't want to turn this into a debate topic on a contest thread...

Not gonna lie. If Baby Park actually was on Pyrosphere, I would probably turn the likelihood of the song up to 100% in My Music.

Reasoning: Oh come on, this song has to be included! It’s Brinstar! Leaving it out would be like leaving out World 1 from the original Super Mario Bros. on a Mario stage! The Legend of Zelda Overworld theme on a Zelda stage! Dr. Wily’s Castle 1/2 from Mega Man 2 on a Mega Man stage! This IS Metroid. I linked it to the Super Smash Bros. 64 version because I couldn’t find a decent version of the NES arrangement, and it’s nostalgic for a lot of people.

Reasoning: Um... it’s Pyrosphere. You hear the song in the game’s equivalent of this stage. It’s the theme song of a certain expected newcomer that is a deadlier version of Barney, you who who I’m talking about! Besides, if Sakurai were to leave this out, surely we’d get so angry we’d end up killing someone! Probably Adam Malkovich, and his stupid authorizations. Oh, wait.

Name: Theme of Samus Aran, Space Warrior
Series: Metroid
Game of Origin: Super Metroid (1994, SNES)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EPkImiUzdBk
Reasoning:

The last Metroid is in captivity. The world is safe.

It’s creepy-sounding, it’s dark, it’s Super Metroid. It’s got those few trumpet-esque notes, that push you heroically through the dark, brooding alien planets. And, it kicks off one of the best SNES games of all time, right up there with Link to the Past, Mega Man X and Donkey Kong Country 2!

Name: Approaching Sector Zero
Series: Metroid
Game of Origin: Metroid: Other M (2010, Wii)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DTtNrVnHdFw
Reasoning: It sounds very... synthesizer. It fits perfectly with the stage, in my opinion, and has this sense of urgency and wariness to it, like “oh my god, something’s going to happen”.

Name: Metroid Prime Essence Battle
Series: Metroid
Game of Origin: Metroid Prime (2003, GameCube)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnAm2mItdIc
Reasoning: It just sounds so... AWESOME. It sounds like a perfect fit for the Pyrosphere, with it’s beeping noises and squishy sounds in the back... What are those, anyway? It sounds like someone took a boss them and made a chiptune version!

Name: Pyrosphere Industrial
Series: Metroid
Game of Origin: Metroid: Other M (2010, Wii)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=38fnWuwFVzw
Reasoning: It’s so horror movie, it fits. It’s not really a song, more... feng shui, ambiance, mojo for the stage. It’s just so creepy, it’s perfect for Smashers to collide, while fearing that an enemy from their past may appear at any second...

Name: Norfair
Series: Metroid
Game of Origin: Metroid (1987, NES)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XGgvHDnTg84
Reasoning: Um... it’s Norfair. You can’t have a Metroid stage without VS. Ridley, Norfair or Brinstar. This track also has a dark feeling, it actually reminds me of Ballad of the Wind Fish at points. It’s still a great track.

Name: VS. Dark Samus
Series: Metroid
Game of Origin: Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (2008, Wii)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i3D1dI_yjTY
Reasoning: It’s got a beat to it, some dangerous-sounding instruments, the static feel, the deep ominous chorus. It’s Dark Samus. This is possibly one of my new favorite tracks. It’s so darn catchy!

Name: Baby (Justin Bieber)
Series: THE BABY
Game of Origin: THE BABY
