Oh I see. I'll change it then. ;)
Beat you to it.

oh wow what

wasn't actually expecting that to happen!
Eh. You lost because of a penalty I mistakenly placed on you. It's only fair.

I debated whether or not that counts as a medley but I thought that if I counted the Yoshi beats in the NSMBW song as the same peice, I should count this as well.

Still. This is embarrassing....

I'm a bit of a perfectionist and too nice for my own good... So whenever I screw up something like this and hurt people in the process, I find it hard to forgive myself.

I'll get over it. Just give me time. (Like I already feel normal :p)

Still...

Added your list to the channel. Everything's updated but the wall of honor, which I'll do tomorrow.

Congrats to BridgesWithTurtles and AEM!

Also, the YouTube thing is a rather solid idea. I definitely like it. It makes it easier for me to listen to the music and imagine playing stage as well.

I'm surprised that I did rather decent in this contest. I expected to be totally obliterated!

Also, I'm sorry that Groose is so busy. I hope he can get things sorted out!

Oh snap! I really thought I would get good points for the Sonic song, I really dig cross-franchise songs/stages. And Tornado Defense DOES fit the stage a lot :c It wouldn't really fit Green Hill or Windy Hill, the same with the Surf Medley, there's no way it would fit with a Pokemon stage unless it was something like Sootopolis City.

shinpichu, I would just like to say that I was the first to give you the perfect score. Then Swamp had to mess up my groove, that thunder-thief...

But yes, Groose will be missed. But I am all in for Luco to be the judge. I was just a bit skeptical since it's hard enough to get the grades in, but this is perfectly fine!

Good luck on the next tracks, guys! Hope you all do well!

I tied for 2nd place? And the first-place winner was a tie as well? SWEET! I think I did pretty good on here, even though I focused on Resort too much. Thank you, everyone, for the kind words!

The YouTube channel is a welcome addition!

Did anyone see this? Honestly, I'm laughing right now. Oh, funny funny. But yeah, Spirit Tracks.

Just be prepared. The Legend of Zelda is my favorite video game franchise OF ALL TIME. Even before Kingdom Hearts, Pokemon, even Smash. So, yeah.... I'm gonna be a lot more strict in this round.

Being a Zelda fan myself and having played almost every game of the series, I'll be quite... judgemental about it. :shades::laugh:

Pick those tracks wisely and don't derail! Passengers like a safe and comfortable ride, you know!

(It's funny, since given my current life situation, I travel a lot by train.)

I might come up with a soundtrack later or I might not enter at all. I never played Spirit Tracks nor Phantom Hourglass for that matter. (the touch screen controls don't interest me)

It's already been prepared, just have to add reasoning and then... boom!

This one was hard, considering most of my tracks ended up being removed when I remembered Gerudo Valley was also a 3DS stage. So, it's been a work in progress. Hoping to put it up before bed!

Name: Realm Overworld
Game: The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks (Nintendo DS, 2009)
Universe: The Legend of Zelda
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5W_bFLwB0WY

Reason: It's already confirmed.

Name: In The Fields
Game: The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks (Nintendo DS, 2009)
Universe: The Legend of Zelda
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_CpyO0wrAQs
Reason: I think it sounds pretty cool and I could see it getting a sweet rock remix for us to fight to.

Name: Byrne's Theme
Game: The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks (Nintendo DS, 2009)
Universe: The Legend of Zelda
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cyafoDger5k
Reason: I believe Byrne is a major character in the game, so a song relating to him isn't too much of a stretch to me. I think it would be cool if they did to this song what they did to the Song of Storms by adding more instruments to each loop to make it more intense as the song went on.

Name: Castle Town
Game: The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks (Nintendo DS, 2009)
Universe: The Legend of Zelda
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VeuAimans00
Reason: I've always wanted a castle town song in these games since castle towns have been a big part of the series since Ocarina of Time, and the Spirit Tracks castle town sounds really cool. I think with the 3DS' song capabilities it would sound awesome and fit the stage rather well.

Name: Phantom Hourglass Title
Game: The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass (Nintendo DS, 2007)
Universe: The Legend of Zelda
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AI9JGwPzjGk
Reason: As the other DS Zelda, I can see songs from this game being on this stage. Also, aren't the Spirit Tracks characters/Hyrule descended from the Phantom Hourglass characters? (If not then nevermind. >_>)

Name: Linebeck's Theme
Game: The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass (Nintendo DS, 2007)
Universe: The Legend of Zelda
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_HvVSQPGRzA
Reason: I believe Linebeck is a major character in this game and has quite the fanbase. If the song were to get in the game, then I imagine the first part to sound like it does in this link, and then for the second loop I think it would be cool to go for an orchestrated version, like what the Kid Icarus Title and Super Mario Bros water level did in Brawl.

Name: Oracle of Seasons & Ages (Opening/Title/Overworld)
Games: The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons & Oracle of Ages (Game Boy Color, 2001)
Links:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0s20B6BFQpo (Opening & Title)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4k7r0mfv4NA (Overworld)
Reason: The opening and the title will play once (like the Golden Sun song on Norfair in Brawl). Then the main part of this song will be the overworld music, which is a personal favorite of mine. Also, I love the Oracle games and wanted something to represent them.

Name: Tal Tal Heights
Game: The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (Game Boy, 1993)
Universe: The Legend of Zelda
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e1shQkN03l8
Reason: It's an awesome song, and I know it was in Brawl, but I want a different remix that is more true to the original. Either orchestrated or rock.

The lack of a Minish Cap song will probably do me in. >_>

Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks - Realm Overworld
Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks - Vs. Byrne
Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass - The Great Sea
Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap - Vs. Vaati
Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages & Seasons - Nayru's Song ~ Din's Dance
Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening - Tal Tal Heights
Streetpass Quest - Battle
For The Frog the Bells Toll - Overworld

"Realm Overworld" is already a track in the game. "Vs. Byrne" is a change of pace battle theme that is both whimsical yet serious; a good fit for the stage. "The Great Sea" fits the voyage, train theme, as well as referencing the prior portable Zelda entry. "Vs. Vaati" is a really good battle theme. Not much more I need to say there. "Nayru's Song" and "Din's Dance" are both memorable tracks from the Oracle of Ages/Seasons, and represent important aspects of those titles. A medley between the two songs could work very well. "Tal Tal Heights" is one of the more memorable tracks from Link's Awakening -- which makes it all the more depressing that Brawl's arrangement made little use of the original source. "Battle" from Streetpass Quest is my odd ball pick, which, surprisingly, fits the stage very very well. "Overworld" is one of those songs that is surprising, and not so surprising at the same time. A musical ode to the game that launched the portable Zelda genre.

Made my list!
[collapse="GRC's Spirit Train Song List"]
Personal rules: Handheld-origin songs only; No final boss themes; No more or less than 4 songs of the game the stage originates; Accomodate for what songs make up for in tracks not transitioning from Brawl; And last but not least, make sure each and every song is distinct from one another. Ready? Go.

Name: Overworld
Series: The Legend of Zelda
Game of Origin: The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5W_bFLwB0WY
  • Already a known track and a damn good one at that. No justification needed.
Name: Castle Town
Series: The Legend of Zelda
Game of Origin: The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VeuAimans00
  • A nice and memorable track from Spirit Tracks.
  • Town theme, very fluttery and gives uplifting feelings of fighting while speeding through the fields of New Hyrule.
Name: Byrne's Theme
Series: The Legend of Zelda
Game of Origin: The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8aytSMb0xVo
Note: This is his boss theme, but for purposes of the Smash Bros. format fits much more than the regular version of his theme. The better point of using the boss version is rather that the tempo and added percussion would better suit the song in Smash Bros. than without it, meaning either version technically works as my entry.
  • The theme of who is easily the most acclaimed character addition from Spirit Tracks after Link and Spirit Zelda themselves, therefore very notable.
  • A sort of a cartoony yet unsettling vibe, like the fighters that should be aware that they're fighting on top of a friggin' train.
Name: Cragma, Lava Lord
Series: The Legend of Zelda
Game of Origin: The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O2BHSEDptuA
  • Much in spirit of Molgera before it on Pirate Ship, Cragma was one of the better non-final boss themes, so it'd only be natural to be seen on the cel-shaded Zelda stage.
  • Definitely the most sinister of my selection, since again, the stage conditions make for a dangerous spectacle for fighters and players alike.
Name: Title (Phantom Hourglass)
Series: The Legend of Zelda
Game of Origin: The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G3gfqPdF7eQ
  • Title themes are always good, and so is having at least one song from the prequel. Additionally, Great Sea has a very good chance of not making it over from Brawl, despite being an absolute classic, so this kills two birds with one stone.
  • Displays a straightforward sense of adventure. Nothing too optimistic nor serious--the perfect balance in between to portray that a fight doesn't necessarily have to show a black and white morality. Such as the feelings that could be gained from heroes murdering each other in such a beautiful setting.
Name: Oracle Medley
Series: The Legend of Zelda
Game of Origin: The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons / Oracle of Ages
Nayru's Song (Beginning - 0:16): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ldLmffH2k4
Tarm Ruins (0:06 - 0:40): http://youtu.be/S0EumkAeEAo?t=6s
Fairy Something: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kTBa-ApJf9E
Dancing Dragon Dungeon (Beginning - 0:40): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xhGS79bPPCI
  • I checked, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with a 4-song medley. A Jazzy/Orchestrated mix of instruments would do the entire medley some justice, by the way. That's what I hear when I hear these together, at least. :)
  • Representation of both Oracle games. They each represent different things: A character, a part of the world, an event, and a dungeon. That said, Seasons has appropriately "stationary location" songs (which change with season) while Ages has "tempory entity" songs (which change with time).
  • I feel as if the selection picks from the most memorable or most well-done songs of the games. Seasons gets a little more time, it seems like, but the songs need to loop at some point. I'd prefer a more seamless medley over a bit of nitpicking.
  • In regards to Spirit Train itself, the melodies each portray a sense of brisk pacing. Nothing seems too lax like it's about to lounge out, which works perfectly with the ever-busy situation of the fight and train.
Name: Minish Village
Series: The Legend of Zelda
Game of Origin: The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yRewbuEqEOw
  • We can't leave Minish Cap out of the mix. Nothing like the theme of one of the easily most important creatures in the game to represent that.
  • The luscious greens, nostalgic blues, and overall colorful vibe of the stage makes a very light-hearted song feel justified in the cel-shaded segment of the series, definitely here more than any other Zelda stage in SSB4.
Name: Tal Tal Heights
Series: Super Smash Bros.
Game of Origin: Super Smash Bros. Brawl
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h1KN-pA66js
  • No better way to end the list than with a returning song, as per Smash Bros. tradition.
  • Represents not only Link's Awakening, but a separate series entirely and the Zelda franchise altogether (due to having notes that clearly reference the series' main theme). In other words, the best compilation a single song can offer.
  • While everyone is using the original requesting a remix that does Tal Tal Heights justice, the more obvious solution is that it's easier to re-use an old song that still gets the job done. Redoing the song entirely traditionally makes no sense when it's not even that vital to the series.

So....remember when I said I wouldn't be making a list this time?

Apparently I lied:

I restricted myself to handheld Zeldas that use the cel-shaded art style. So that's why there's nothing from the Oracle Games/Link's Awakning, as I feel they'd fit better on Gerudo Valley.

Or not. Change my mind, because Four Swords' OST is somewhat...underwhelming.

The two Minish Cap songs is probably a bit risky, but whatever.

[collapse="APC99's List O' Railroad Ditties!"]Name: Overworld Realm
Universe: Legend of Zelda
Game of Origin: The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks (DS, 2009)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5W_bFLwB0WY
Reasoning: A catchy little ditty, and one that’s already on the stage. It sounds so good, I wish I had Spirit Tracks just to ride my trains to this song.

Name: Linebeck’s Theme
Universe: Legend of Zelda
Game of Origin: The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass (DS, 2007)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_HvVSQPGRzA
Reasoning: Linebeck for the WIN! A lot of people like this character, and his theme’s pretty rocking too. So, I’m not sure why it wouldn’t be in, it seems almost a shoo-in if I wasn’t so careful.

Name: Minish Woods
Universe: Legend of Zelda
Game of Origin: The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap (GBA, 2004)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aa_VVimqskw
Reasoning: It was between this and Minish Village, but I found this more fitting to the stage. The song’s pretty iconic as well, so I thought I’d be a good idea to add it.

Name: The Lost Woods
Universe: Legend of Zelda
Game of Origin: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D (3DS, 2011)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R1D94zoKRUg
Reasoning: Originally, due to me putting the Saria’s Song in my Nintendo Land medley for the Wii Fit stage, I decided not to put it in. However, I then realized how much better it fit the Spirit Train, so I put it in anyway, in it’s OoT3D version.

Name: Dancing Dragon Dungeon
Universe: Legend of Zelda
Game of Origin: The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons (Game Boy Color, 2001)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2OdHygmiJqk
Reasoning: I opted for this game’s Lost Woods (different from OoT) originally, but I prefer this catchy tune. Besides, alliteration is too much to pass by. Try saying that sh*t five times fast! :awesome:

Name: Ballad of the Wind Fish
Universe: Legend of Zelda
Game of Origin: The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening (Game Boy, 1993)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NdHrWQKWF0Y
Reasoning: Oh my freaking god I love this song. This has to be in the stage. 'Nuff said.

Name: Main Theme
Universe: Legend of Zelda
Game of Origin: The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds (3DS, 2013)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yJj3gGWrXwQ
Reasoning: Not going to let this pass by now, am I? A Link Between Worlds needs some representation, I think this version of the main theme goes pretty well with the Spirit Train, and it’s from a handheld, so I’m not cheating :)

Name: Byrne’s Theme
Universe: Legend of Zelda
Game of Origin: The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks (DS, 2009)
Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8aytSMb0xVo
Reasoning: Banjos. JUST, banjos. It’s got a Celtic/country/pirate/Zelda vibe to it that’s just amazing. Byrne and Linebeck are two of my favorite characters, so it’s obvious their themes are coming with me. [/collapse]

Really? I have a different philosophy. To me, Spirit Tracks would better represent the handheld games much more so than Gerudo Valley, especially Gerudo Valley. See a lot more console Zelda music being mixed on Gerudo Valley. However, I will say if there happens to be a Link Between Worlds stage (e.g. Hyrule Castle), that stage would probably be best suited for music from the handhelds thematically. Since we don't know if there is one, I'm just operating off what we do have, and Spirit Tracks right now seems like the better option between the two.

Well, to each their own. Though I admit I would much rather have Tal Tal Heights than any Four Swords songs. Hm....

I see it like this:

-Spirit Train should be the embodiment of handheld Zeldas and more playful tunes, like overworld themes or character themes.
-Gerudo Valley's where you can include more dangerous themes, final boss themes, some console songs (I believe to only stick to Zelda & Zelda II if you're going to do so) and darker themes. For instance, the Overworld theme from LTTP? Spirit Train. Dark World? Gerudo Valley.

Don't steal that or so help me god...

I already have my list in my mind for Gerudo Valley, not much is going to change that. ;)

I'm still anticipating a Link Between Worlds stage, so there is a strong possibility I could be double-dipping down the road.
