So you change your vote?

Also, I forgot to mention this, but Wario-Man will be added to the Wario chart next to Wario like how Giga Bowser is next to Bowser.

Keep Pikmin they way it is. Louie, Alph, Brittany and Charlie could be last minute clones.

Since it's clear majority wants Pikmin to stay the same, it will stay the same.

We're going to take a break before discussing the next categories, since there's some specifics I want to bring up.

Since the next ones are entire eras of Nintendo that'd be best.

So until then, let's ponder the question does Marth's reveal change anything about Fire Emblem choices?

(The correct answer is no)

Maybe is a series has multiple possible characters, then said series should have their own. This could be seen for Animal Crossing, Advanced Wars, Golden Sun and Sin & Punishment

There's too little numbers for some (i.e. Golden Sun, Sin & Punishment) to warrant their own chart.

Again, too little numbers.

I'm not going to have a separate section for just two characters.

Should Yoshi Dragon appear in the Yoshi section? And the Landmaster in Star Fox?

No and No.

Super Dragon Yoshi is a power-up that doesn't even fully change Yoshi's model unlike Wario-man and Giga Bowser and the Land-Master is a non-sentient machine.

Should certain 3rd parties have their own section (such as Namco Bandai and Square Enix)?

There's not going to be much 3rd Parties, so they will be together.

And before anyone brings it up, we're not gonna put any of Sonic's buddies on the list. The only reason both Solid Snake and Big Boss are on there is because Kojima is even more indecipherable than Sakurai so we don't know what Snake will be requested.

Even then, I'm taking Big Boss off since in essence, he's still Snake.
Regardless of whether we get Solid back or Naked (Big Boss) comes in instead, we still get Snake.

It's almost like having the TP Zelda from Brawl and the SS Zelda as separate spots because we currently don't know which of the two will be Smash 4's "Zelda".
(And if it were up to me, I'd have TP Zelda on the chart instead of SS Zelda since it was her last Smash appearance and we still have TP Link.)

I kind of hope that while Snake would be a mix, that he would have an alternate with the eye patch. Simply so I can play on the Pirate Ship stage (hopefully) and be a pirate :awesome:

Alright, I think we've taken a long enough break.
First order of business is how the next few charts are going to be handled.

There's some changes.
First, there will be rearrangements by when the franchises have debuted rather than labels such as "Retros" since there is some debate on who counts and who doesn't.

So we will have:
-Series debuting prior to Smash
-Series debuting in-between Smash 64 and Melee
-Series debuting in-between Melee and Brawl
-Series debuting after Brawl

And the characters will be in chronological order by series.

That being said, we will start with the first category, Series debuting prior to Smash, in which we have:

Sheriff (1979)

Game & Watch (1980)

Balloon Fight (1984)

Punch-Out (February 1984)

Duck Hunt (April 21, 1984)

Devil World (October 5, 1984)

Urban Champion (November 14, 1984)

Clu Clu Land (November 22, 1984)

Excitebike (November 30, 1984)

Ice Climber (January 30, 1985)

Wrecking Crew (June 18, 1985)

Famicom Robot (July 26, 1985)

Mach Rider (November 21, 1985)

Famicom Computer Disk System (February 21, 1986)

Mystery of Murasame Castle (April 14, 1986)

Gumshoe (June 6, 1986)

Pro Wrestling (October 21, 1986)

Glory of Heracles (June 12, 1987)

Shin Onigashima (September 4, 1987)

Famicom Detective Club (April 27, 1988)

Famicom Wars (August 12, 1988)

Yuyuki (October 14, 1989)

SimCity SNES (1990)

StarTropics (December 1990)

Wave Race (July 1992)

For the Frog the Bell Tolls (September 4, 1992)

Battle Clash (October 1992)

Joy Mech Fight (May 21, 1993)

Panel de Pon (October 27, 1995)

Mole Mania (July 21, 1996)

Marvelous (October 26, 1996)

Sutte Hakkun (November 2, 1997)

First order of business is to decide on whether any of those series should be removed, and which ones that fit within this category should be included.

Question: Are characters like Daitoryo and Diskun being included? They don't quite fit into the retro area, but they're possibilities if we consider them "historical" characters. Should we have a different area for them?

Diskun, being an actual game character is already listed.
Daitoryo, being a fan-made concept and irrelevant to Nintendo's gaming history will not be included.
Captain N, being a cartoon/comic exclusive character will not be included.
EVR Racer will be considered.
Nester may be considered.

One question to which I think I know the answer: Will the cut-off points be for the Japanese release dates of the games?

That is like calling Toon Link and Twilight Princess Link the same person in essence. I mean... they are both Link right? Poor Big Boss never gets the recognition he deserves... :c (I know, I know, different circumstances).

I believe the first release date, regardless of country, should be the set debut date.
So if a game came out in 1999 before Smash 64, but was released worldwide in 2000, we should still consider that a franchise that debuted before the original Smash Brothers.

I agree with this sentiment. Essentially the debut is the most relevant date in terms of when the franchise started (obviously). I think that it entails the creation of the series more properly than a world wide release (even if the WW release was the reason the series gained traction).

I would remove Marvelous and Hakkun for the reasons that they were neither iconic to the SNES era nor have they been referenced even once since their inception. Literally every other series has had at least one nod to their games, while neither Marvelous nor Hakkun have shown up as even a single WarioWare game, Animal Crossing game, sticker, trophy, or hell, not even a mention in Brawl's Nintendo Chronicle. For that reason, they should be removed for having no notability compared to the rest of the list.

@Morbid:
I specifically did not use Link as the example since all "Links" are just reincarnations of the original Link, Hylia's Chosen Hero.
In essence, they are literally the same character, just living different lives.

Zelda on the other hand, is a different person each generation given the same name, much like Solid Snake and Naked Snake.

@AEM:

Teleroboxer, I get. But Stunt Race?
...I guess if Fighters Megamix can get a regular car to work as a fighter, Smash can get a living one to work....but it'd be hella weird.

@FalKoopa:
Wild Gunman is now being considered.

@Fogbadge:
If we went by that line of thinking more than half of the list in general would be removed as there is hardly a liable chance for a majority of the characters.

@God Robert's:
Why would Japan only releases be on the Chronicle for overseas releases of Brawl? Unless they don't appear on Japan's Chronicle either.
And why would SNES titles be in Animal Crossing, when it only emulated NES titles?
WarioWare rarely features Japan exclusive titles in 9-Volt's games, and the ones that it did (Murasame Castle and Famicom Detective Club) were removed in overseas release.
Yuyuki is also exempt from any of these things you listed; should Goku be removed for that reason?

Oh, and since no one else brought it up, Pilotwings is going to be added to the list.

DON'T YOU MEAN HELLA AWESOME!?!?!

Also, since I've noticed that we will be adding Male Wii Fit Trainer to the chart, does that mean that we should eventually begin guessing potential Alternate Costumes? Would be a great way to keep the topic going after we complete all of the lists.

It'd be better to just add costume characters when they show up rather than add every possibility for a costume on to the chart.

Ah. Didn't know each Chronicle was region exclusive. That would explain why Mother 3 isn't on there. Why they aren't referenced isn't the question at matter, however. It's the fact that they are literally one-game series with no appearances, references, sequels or anything of the like outside of their source games over 15 years ago that makes it seem like an outrageous stretch to really think they'd ever be considered for characters.

And yes, if he indeed follows that same criteria, I would remove Goku for the same reasons.
