Ivalice has so much untapped potential and deep lore. Too bad XII had a half-ass storyline and cast.

I'd love a spin-off for Final Fantasy VIII. My favorite regular game in the series(that wasn't some other genre, that is). I mean, I like a lot of the other ones too, but this one took my fancy, since it rewarded smart play and combinations(of equipment and spells), not just power-leveling.

Not that it isn't a solid game that finished well, but something set in the same universe, perhaps. Or based around some of the characters. Seifer spends a lot of time away from the group, Irvine isn't met till quite a bit into the game, basically stories based around characters who could spend more time being delved into.

Klonoa would be fricking perfect as a Smash Bros charcter..
too bad namco forgot who klonoa is, kinda like Konami and Rocket Knight >_>

Heck I doubt we'll even get a Tales Of character. Third-parties seem to be more of popularity to the company. I know someone will come in here and cry "MEGA-MAN" but do i even need to explain that one

i'm going to add this to my playing/buy list now; good job

Got any other Gradius like games you know of? I'm working on a Shmup with others as we speak.
Well, there's Lifeforce.
Another one I know of is "Touhou". It's a danmaku (or, "bullet hell") using anime characters.
BTW the majority of them are arcade game so...

Well, you do have the PC and consoles crowd. Who do have their fair share of shoot-em-up games.
we haven't actually seen THAT many lately. There was what, Sine Mora and Jamestown? The Ikaruga HD release? (nothing against any of those games I enjoyed them all) Puppygames, who while their games are awesome, don't count as much? Resogun?

of course i'm not depending on genre. The makers of Sine Mora (the most beautiful) even declared it a financial failure at GDC Europe 2012. The real reason the group picked shmup is because it's easier to make than say, an RPG.

Well, as of right now. There's only been a few dominating genres (platformer, shooter, RPG) so I wouldn't be surprised.

But here's what I say. Just because it's dying doesn't mean anything.
You can still make a great game even if the genre isn't doing well.
I may not be a game developer, but I've been planning on getting into the review business (yes I know real original). And one thing I've learned is that uniqueness is a good thing.
Find a way to make yourself different. A way to make it not just "a Gradius clone", but more it's own image.

One good way to start is to first find the concept. What will your game be? In the future? Steampunk? Maybe aliens are taking over? And go from there...

Of course! Well... actually it kinda does mean something for sales sadly; my point about Sine Mora had to do with what happened at GDC. Even they gave suggestions though in their postmortem.

Oh we've already got quite a bit, and we're making ourselves a lot more different than I've even made it sound like. I just play games in the same genre's I work in for inspiration. We've actually had a beta before but went through scrapping it when it was just me and one guy, so...

(I also plan on producing/directing games for a living. ****.)

Welp, sometimes it takes multiple tries to get the best.

C'mon man, think on the bright side. Video games are bigger than ever. They need people with fresh ideas.

I think on the bright side a lot of the time. It's exciting! It's just stressful.

Have you written any reviews yet or articles?
Well, that's something I'm working on.
It probably won't be till much, much later (like years later).

Back during PSASBR LOADS of people said the same thing for that game, he'd work better in smash though.

I'm at my school library right now, and the two guys next to me are arguing over which is better, Melee or Brawl

I'm sad now that my mod powers don't work irl.

Just remind them.
Smash 64 rules over both of them with an iron fist.

Heheh... It is fun to see this all over again, first to Brawl, then to PSASBR, and then now. It's crazy how many great ideas there are. Little Mac makes it difficult, but I can still wish that Harry from Teleroboxing could be in with a reboot for the series on the 3DS (which would make LOADS of money).

And oh man wanting a job in video games... I've had a few game concepts, my wife even did up art for it all. I obviously lack the programming capabilities though. I'd love to hit up virtual console and make some cash there...[/q

I want mod powers IRL...

Heck, I'd take mod powers not IRL but the only boards I'd be helpful with are essentially dead :(
