Well,I don't see a reason to be more diverse in style of physical appearances. It makes Nintendo a bit more varied,and can communicate with different kinds of people with different kinds of tastes.

Snake totally fit in. Every playable character fit in the game.

Mario isn't because he's actually adopted.

However, the faces are a mixed bag. Characters like Zelda and Captain Falcon look great and are expressive, but others, like Link and Palutena, are a bit stiff or just downright unpleasant to look at.

I've mostly forgotten/don't care about the Christian religion, despite the fact it was a huge influence on me as a child. But I'm not an atheist either, I'm all right with the existence of a God. They all look great to me. Well, maybe not the Fire Emblem characters, but they are certainly better then Fire Emblem Awakening.
