It's the most discrete and yet, allows a mini forum post. Only appearing once per page, it doesn't bother much, but the bbcode allows so much options. Having a link with an explicit indication to have a link like mine is why it's so good advertisement, people are a click away everytime you post on one page of any thread. The only effort you do is looking it attractive and spreading by simply posting, but you can easilly not talk about the sig and it would work.
I saw no better option other than bringing the topic in related threads or bumping the threads if you are not the last poster (the later was a huge problem for me before....I had to use really weird planning to be sure to not post too much and bring posts....).
Or you scrap your location, but it becomes more obvious and might appear too much
