I am ready to move on to the NX, but I hope they keep the gamepad. At least, as an optional controller. It is my favorite part of the Wii U.

I think we could expect that NX to be a home console. That's not surprising. Question is, when exactly is it coming out? The Wii-U came out in 2011 I think. So 5 or 6 years is the typical console life-span. If I had to guess, mid-2017 would be the end of the Wii-U life-span. 2016 is also possible. And at the very latest, early 2018.

I think the Wii U will survive at least until mid 2018, but by then I'll be either
1. Finished with college and off to find my dream job with a Nintendo subsidiary in the U.S.
Or 2. Still pushing for a masters degree.

Come to think of it, I might even go for a PHD so I can be referred to as Doctor Jason by people I know.

Good to hear. Are you planning to jump right into online mode? Or are you gonna try and get some custom moves first?

Well, traditionally I always start with a Kirby vs Mario(me as Kirby, Mario as CPU) match on a normal, legal stage(FD, Battlefield etc.). And then maybe training mode or more CPU VS matches until I get a good feel of the game and characters.
Edit: @ Coricus reminded me, but I actually forgot about Smash Run! I may go straight to that instead after the Kirby vs Mario ritual is over.
