Because while what you are saying is of course a possibility it is also considered reaching if there is nothing to go by. My post was under the assumption the source and translation is to be reliable of course. As it stands it just seems off putting for him to bring up not being able to use melees data as a factor when it was said they made the characters from scratch earlier. It goes without saying that this can be glossed over until a proper translation of the entire interview comes along.

Well, the speculation scene is dead (but there's still whiners that want DLC) and it's not that bad anymore. Still doesn't mean that the Impa support is going at full force.
In other news, Hyrule Warriors is #4 in the UK sales chart. That's pretty damn impressive for a Warriors game and it's close to the likes of Destiny.

Talking about Sakurai's comments about Melee for a moment.
All it really shows to me is that though Sakurai is a good developer, he is really not a great PR person. He has said a number of questionable things in the past that most people in any actual PR people would probably cringe about. It's actually more that Sakurai tends to handle his statements similar to how most people do and just says what comes to him without really thinking about what he said in the past or how people might react to it, rather then what an actual PR person does. Everyone has probably done that at one point or another, we just don't have a fan base that keeps track of everything we say either.
To me the whole 'makes everything from scratch' was probably a overstatement to begin with on Sakurai's part. It's true that a vast majority of things were created from scratch but the idea that nothing was pulled from the previous game in a long running series is a little odd. Especially give the demo that we played during E3 did seem to have some things in common with Brawl's engine compared to what we actually got at release. It seems likely that some aspects of Brawl were pulled over or at least used as a template. Whether the same could be done with Melee could raise another set of questions entirely.
