I've been modding for years and any board I put particular attention to ends up that way. Fun/silliness from time to time, but there's always an overarching "proper" conversation going on (and if there isn't someone brings something good up).
Habits I guess? (I just think of how a school teacher would force you into things, and although that to most would be "death", eventually it becomes a normal means of articulation).
I like to talk about things of general interest. Otherwise I expect the random drop to usually just be 1-off (as in people don't try to play a game of out-randoming/sillying you).
But a place/thread like this moves way too fast for where I'd normally lurk. Posts that are in the range of 20-60% "appropriate" [where 80%+ would be best] flood out much faster then what I can do stuff for considering my other responsibilities/sanity limits.
It's a skill to be able to bring up a conversation topic multiple people can get into, especially when the demographic is so specific (and those outside that probably wouldn't still frequently lurk here). But it's a good feeling no? Probably much better than a spree of likes for a single "funny" image. Anything can be not-boring in the right context and environment
