The hype train is at ludicrous speed now, and with less than 32 hours to go to the final broadcast, I made a template for bingo cards. You can download it below. Credit goes to ArtyOmin for the character renders from his smashified series. Also tweet out with the hashtag #Bingo4Smash once you have made your predictions.
Here we go again...

I wonder if I'll get another bingo.

I'm going to throw in a little Smash Bros. direct prediction myself, just for kicks and giggles. Plus, it would be another total mindblow for everyone.

Tifa Lockhart, to go along with Cloud. Effectively giving us two reps, both of which are quite beloved in their own right.

What do you all say to that?
Hell no. If Square gets a second character it should be from their other big franchise, Dragon Quest. Specifically Slime.

OK this may seem a bit obvious but...
I think Sakurai has got something in store for us that could possibly be just a bit more hype than Cloud.

I mean, He probably wasn't even the ballot winner.

Who knows what it could be? I have a feeling once the direct is over the entire internet will explode.

Maybe I'm expecting too much but after seeing something like Cloud in the last direct which was something NOBODY saw coming, I have no idea what to expect. And why would Sakurai reveal Cloud so early if an announcement like that got so many fans really hyped up?

It's obvious he's up to something.

He always is...

Good morning/time of the day it is for everyone!
Are you all ready to die? And by die I mean being swamped with exams the whole week?:b:
Cause I sure am! (Not)

I would be wonderful to see Snake come back. Played him loads in Brawl.
I was thinking on more of the lines of something Like Banjo or something like that. But hell, that wouldn't be possible still.
Right? Right??
But then again Konami is being really awkward this year, so it would be amazing if he got brought back for one more smash.

If Snake is dlc he needs to be shown at the very end. Have the direct end like how he was revealed in Brawl. Popping out of a box saying "Kept you waiting, huh?"

I don't think they'll top cloud. The new ones will probably be Nintendo characters.

I think Banjo is the only one who can actually top Cloud. Not even Snake can do that.
And welcome to the site as well as our thread. :)

I just hope we get a Konami rep. Snake, Bomberman or Simon Belmont we need to get all of the top companies in the same Smash.

I finally beat Paper Jam. Right on time for the Smash Direct, although I originally bought it so I had something to play in the vacation that starts this Friday.

31 hours left until the Broadcast. I'm going in with an open mind with the only expectation that Cloud + Midgar will be released after the Broadcast. There aren't many realistic wants for me to be revealed anyway, almost all of them are in the base game.

Wait, you got Paper Jam? Lemme borrow, mang. I'll let you play Sticker Star in return :')

People are setting themselves up for disappointment. Expecting more than three characters (including Cloud) just doesn't make sense to me.

Yeah, I was originally on the fence of buying it, but I eventually gave in and bought it. Looking past the 'no original characters' it's actually a pretty solid game. It's harder than any of the other M&L games too.
And two of my favorite recurring Mario bosses are in the game as well.

Can you give a spoilerless review on it?

Because I never really checked payers reviews much, only reviewers.

Is it harder in a proper way, or in the sense of the horrid Big Bowser-esque battles? The part where you had to blow out your castle or something was just not fair.

Is Midbus in it?

No, giant battles are, fortunately, out. Or well, replaced by papercraft battles (which are too easy actually). There's no touch screen or gyroscope crap in this game at all.
But it's harder in the way dodging is now more important, because enemies hit harder than in previous titles. And some enemies and bosses have attacks that are really hard to dodge, especially when it comes to the first time playing them. So it's not difficult in an unfair way because the system doesn't register your moves, but in a proper way.

And no, Midbus is not in it. :(

Also aldelaro5 aldelaro5 , what do you want me to review exactly?

ok.....I know it mioght be a lot, but I like exhaustive :)
  • How woudl you rate the balance between the execution aspect of the action command compared to the strategical aspect of the battles?
  • how balanced are the battle cards?
  • in what way the addition of Paper Mario in battles changes the battles? (are they worse? better? why?)
  • how woudl you rate the dialogs and more specifically, the humor? What type of humor? (Paper Mario tends to be more illogical stuff hyperboiled and presented in a silly way while m&l tends to be very absurd and just that, the former tends to break the 4th wall a lot more)
  • This is the msot important question: Do you think that Paper Mario showed a certain distinctive personality in the game? If yes, how woudl you describe it?
I know it's very long, but try to answer as much as you can, ptut he last one thign i mentioned in priority though :)

Sounds pretty sweet - I would've preferred them staying completely away from 'big' gimmicks like Papercraft battles, though.

Poor Midbus. I wish he was used more often, I really like him as a rival to Bowser.

So yeah, can I borrow the game anytime soon? ;)

Only Banjo and Kazooie could top Cloud in terms of hype.

  • I'm afraid I don't understand this question. If you mean if there's some strategy necessary, there isn't. It's just attacking and dodging.
  • If you have the right cards and some luck, I'd rate them OP. For example, there's a couple of time-based mission that are difficult beating them in the given amount. But if you use a card that extends the timer with five minutes, it suddenly becomes a lot easier.
  • Harder, because now you have three characters to watch over. Some enemies and bosses target all three in the same attack. I wouldn't call it worse, though, because you never have to press the A, B and Y buttons at the same time. You just have to pay close attention sometimes.
  • There's one instance where the 4th wall is being broken, but I'm not experienced enough in Paper Mario to pinpoint their kind of humor. But seeing as this is basically a M&L game, there's a lot of M&L humor in it.
  • Creative, sometimes by accident. He doesn't have enough animations to give him a personality based on that, it's all based on story.
So yeah, can I borrow the game anytime soon? ;)
I'll take it with me the next time I come over. ;)

  • What I mean is that m&l tends to focus a lot more on the execution of the commands, they are VERY long and VERY diversed and sometime VERY complicated while Paper Mario one are just......push A or tilt the stick, it's really simple to execute. The thing with the Paper Mario game is you have a lot of strategy options because you have 2 turns to manage and each of the turns can do much mroe than 2 actions, sometime like 6. the question is does the strategy aspect of m&l feels more present than the other games? I ask this because for example, the copies coudl introduce more strategy as you loose a turn if you use that block.
  • idk cards that extends timer existed and it sounds like soemthing I don't want to use lol :)
  • ok, does that difficulty makes it mroe interesting? I just said what I call a more strategic ortiented battle, the fact you do have to watch for more to me means that you do need more strategy options because it's more thinkering.
  • .....yeah ok I'll skip this one because I don't think I am or can explain it very well (plus, it's complicated tbh)
  • ........ok I will skip this one too (to me, it seemed very obvious he had much
  • animations to show that, from what I heard, it was a lot mroe)
Man I feel my essay on the game is goign to be a very long one lol :)

I'm thinking of who would play the characters in my Zelda show. It includes recurring people from other Nintendo series' like Fire Emblem, Golden Sun, Kid Icarus and Mario. Anyways, Arthur from FE Fates would appear and he'd totally have to be portrayed by Nathan Fillion.

  • If Paper Mario has copies, you have to press the Y button the same amount of times if you want to have an 'EXCELLENT!' jump. Hammer isn't that hard, just wait until all copies have their hammer ready to smash. And there's a level-up bonus that gives you the opportunity to do two actions in the same turn although that's only available as the final rank bonus. And if you look at it that way, yes, there's more strategy than in other games because you indeed lose a turn if you use the Copy Block and you have to decide whether to use a healing item or to trust your dodge instincts.
  • Something I forgot to mention about the battle cards, unless you're really lucky, you have to do some work to make your battle set OP.
  • I think it does make it more interesting. It gives you more satisfaction when you finally beat a boss. (There's also easy mode by the way, makes your characters stronger and the enemies weaker)
  • About the animations, I heard the exact opposite of what you heard. Although I didn't take one aspect in account in my earlier post, but it would be spoilers if I said what I mean.
