I suppose they do not perceive an exceptional profit from doing so and therefore it is a waste of their time. Many would argue that they are wrong. But that is more or less why they refuse to do it.

Not gonna lie I was very salty when I saw Cloud getting in smash I wanted Black Mage a lot more to represent final fantasy I guess his chances Is dead now
And about Geno? I think he has now better chance to join because of square Enix, but if not playable then mii costume would be awesome too, I hope sakurai doesn't forget about him, he is requested since melee days and can create a huge hype.

1. Mother games (and RPGs in general) are obviously quite bothersome to translate.

2. The Mother fan base, while very vocal and passionate, isn't horribly large as far as I'm aware.

3. The majority of western mother fans have already played the fan translation of Mother 3, and it's still available for anyone for anyone who wants to play it unless I'm mistaken. Nintendo is aware of this and doesn't seem to mind.

Nintendo is probably happier just letting people who want to play the game in English play it for free illegally than risk selling it themselves at a loss.

Join the club. Banjo-Kazooie and Tooie are my favorite games of all time, having the duo in Smash would be like some wild fantasy dream of mine come to life.
Microsoft would probably be fine with it too, since they have stated as such in the past and seem to be bringing classic Rare franchises back into the public eye.

Reminder that about 5 hours ago Cloud was considered a joke character request by most of the Smash community, up there with the likes of Goku, Tails, and the like.

And look where we are now.

The ending shot with Ike is referencing Cloud's battle with Sephiroth, with similar camera angles and all.
Zelda leaning over him with Lip's Stick and a few Pikmin behind her is a reference to Aerith.
The beginning is supposed to evoke imagery of a random encounter in FFVII.
There's more but I don't feel like watching the trailer over again.
And yes, they were good references.

The Advent Children coat is the best alt. costume in the game.

Okay, my brother who watches the Japanese Direct told me the Japanese Direct actually says that the December Smash Bros broadcast will be the last special presentation for Smash Wii U/3DS, not sure if this means there will be no major updates... so I'm not gonna make a thread about this yet.

Or could this just means there won't be any new fighters after the Smash ballot announcement?

If it's the final announcement (and considering it's highly unlikely the ballot characters will be ready by December) I expect them to release the newly announced characters right after the Direct and to show the models of the ballot winners. Release dates and corresponding trailers would then show in the following Directs
