Why would they say that there's another special announcement next month if Cloud's the ballot character? It makes much more sense to say that Square approached Nintendo after they finished working on Lucas, Roy and Ryu about the idea, which is why it took so long.

There's no indication that Cloud's the ballot character outside of people claiming he is.


EDIT: Also, "out-populars" isn't a word.

I imagine Sakurai got the idea for Cloud from looking at the ballot and approached SE with an offer from there. Doesn't hurt that Sakurai's a major RPG (and I'm assuming Final Fantasy) nut.

There's no indication he isn't the ballot character and that the SSB presentation is something different like a major expansion with new items, solo modes and the like. If they decide to release Wolf and Snake alongside Cloud in December it'll mirror the E3 presentation last summer too.

Cloud makes a lot of sense because he's basically the ultimate "impossible" character that people would want. He was even more impossible then Ridley, Chrom and I'll say Shovel Knight combined. He's the ultimate representation of what the ballot became...

Nobody expected him because people were vehemently against his inclusion... As for the ballot thing, that'd anger people more then you'd ever believe if they outright said it. You see the salt on the front page article? Imagine how bad it'd be if you said virtually every other character was off the table at the same time.

Well, the only thing that doesn't add up is that Cloud is the absolute biggest megaton they could ever drop for Smash. I literally can't think of anybody who'd be as shocking... Besides Goku lolol. Maybe like some SSE2 or something could compete, but character wise Cloud made more noise then K. Rool and the Inklings would combined.

When it comes to Linkle, the only issue I have regarding her is that her name is a bit silly. What a lot of people tend to forget is that Linkle is the best of what she is. Let me explain; It doesn't take much to gender bend Link (Hell, some folks still think he's a girl), but I believe HW put some good effort in separating her from Link (fiery tornado kick, dual wielding crossbows, design, ****ing fiery tornado kick). I mean really. In an either-or situation, it could of been who she is now...

Or literally just a gender bend.

The ending shot with Ike is referencing Cloud's battle with Sephiroth, with similar camera angles and all.
Zelda leaning over him with Lip's Stick and a few Pikmin behind her is a reference to Aerith.
The beginning is supposed to evoke imagery of a random encounter in FFVII.
There's more but I don't feel like watching the trailer over again.
And yes, they were good references.
