Waking up after a tourny like last night's is hard to do. I almost didn't make it.

I see that the forum has adjusted to daylight savings time -- I wonder...if I posted at 1am, then posted at 1:59, then 2, what the times would say on my posts.

The smash community is getting better -- when I say this I'm mainly referring to Jose, Casey, that SwordMasterDude, and that guy with the Doc that beat my marth in friendlies. Good stuff.

It was good seeing DBR again -- it was good seeing a Link in tourny again. I always like how Bob cheers for everybody and adds competitive spirit to the community.

LOL, I really liked that commentary stuff. I could hear what you guys were saying in the background whenever something happened. You guys say some pretty funny things. "Now lunin is finally learning the art of wave-shining, wow only 2 years behind!" LOL. I'm not oblivious when I'm playing, Hahaha.

CS Club & Nick, Josh, Wally: Thanks for hosting!

alright well i've got a lot to say so bear with the long post.

first things first, this probably isnt going to happen again.
i cleaned up the messes of about 15 people, and the other guys in the CS room another handful, and a few other people cleaned up for everyone else. the amount of mess that people were leaving was completly and totally unacceptable, and the CS club has come to the unanimous decision that this community is pretty much not to be allowed in the club again. that being said, i know not everyone was problematic, as ive had many of you over to my house and everyone was extremely respectful. i suspect that a majority of the problems were caused by newer member of the community who dont respect the scene as much as our more veteran smashers.
also, this tourney ran about an hour and 15 minutes longer beyond the alloted time. i think the only reason this was allowed was because the last matches were so freaking amazingly epic that we all enjoyed watching them.
i got a bit of attitude from people <cough germ cough> for returning the room back to its intended position while the last matches were going on. i hope you guys realize that my suggesting that we do this was the only reason losers and grand finals happened at all.
someone smelled like weed. im 99% sure i know who it was, and you know who you were. pretty dang uncool.

ok now that i've got all of that out of the way, im gonna go ahead and say that despite everything i really enjoyed that tourney. a lot of really awesome people showed up, and the games were amazing to watch. i got destroyed in so many games simply because the average skill level of the people at this tourney was just so high. i want to do a ton of shoutouts, but these just too many so im only going to do a select few.

nhat, thanks for being my teams partner. i know we coulda whupped had we really been on our games but i guess not. maybe we'll have another chance someday.

rey, i said you were gonna win, so you did. sure maybe you're pretty skilled and all, but i think we both know who caused you to get first place =)

phil, you're just amazing. maybe a little loud at this tourney, but you kept stuff lively. i would sorta appreciate it though if you save the shouting until a majority of people are done with tourney games, as trying to win while someone is yelling about another game is pretty distracting lol. i knew you'd do crazy good though, you've gotten absolutly amazing. and its not a norcal tourney if you arnt there.

hydrochris, i dunno why but i really enjoy playing with you for some reason. we gotta smash more.

brandon, you are awesome for getting those matches recorded. get them on youtube ASAFP, these videos will become the stuff of ledgend.

and my biggest thanks of all goes to TIM, WALLY, JOSH, and DAVID of the computer science club who made this happen. if it wearnt for tim to open up and david to chill here while tim was out, this simply would not have happened at all. i really hope everyone realizes how much they did by simply being there, and i really hope you all are thankful to THEM.

the end of this post marks my second retirement from tourney hosting. it was a fun run all, and thanks for sharing it with me. i still love smash and i want to keep playing, so look me up!

Thanks Nick/CS Club dudes for letting this happen.

However, I'm sad that they think the mess is reflective of the Smash Community and not just what happens when you open a room to a bunch of people [and then give them food and drinks]. I think the fact that the foodstuffs was close at hand really amplified the amount of trash that was left behind. I have helped Kizzo clean up the Club room after a tournament before and it's never been that bad. I don't want to say they brought it upon themselves, but they DID bring it upon themselves.

Secondly, I don't think Germ was giving you any 'real' attitude. Unless I missed something else, all he said to you was "More tables?". That, to me, is just making light of the situation.

As for the tourney running over, there was a problem with one pool [the one YOU were in] where it ran A LOT longer then the rest. This delayed the start of the bracket considerably.

Thanks for hosting this, Nick/CS club; pity this won't be happening again.

It was fun.

Dinner afterwards was even better.

The tourney ran over about an hour and 15 minutes because the pools started about an hour and fifteen minutes after 10:45. Putting that into consideration, things didn't take too long.

Sorry about having to leave early with my cube. I did my best to help out setting up (at the start), and cleaning up a bit. However, the room was quite dirty when we got there (the jellybeans falling out of the couch, dirty floors, etc). I hope as a n00b I didn't leave any bad impressions. Good job to Lunin and Jeff, and Tang, and everyone else :]

Thanks for hosting this tourney CS club guys, you made my weekend.

I think we're all guilty of doing this, but something to remember is...

DON'T PLAY ****ING FRIENDLIES WHEN WE'RE RUNNING POOLS AND ON A TIGHT SCHEDULE.

this post is a failure of getting your facts straight.

ok so your first point is partly valid, in that we supplied people with food. we also made 2 announcements to throw your **** away, and then i made several VERY loud comments that followed suit. we even had everyone pause the TVs for one of the announcements. while we may have partially brought it upon ourselves, we took what should be sufficient precaution to prevent the situation.

i dont remember exactly what germ said, but the tone he said it in made me angry. i did NOT get the impression that he was making light of the situation, but that he was in fact irritated that i was making him move again.

the issue with the pools was actually partly nhat's (my teammate) fault. he didnt hear his name called and didnt even start his matches until his pool was 2/3rds done. my pool was the one after his and because he was using a TV, and our pool only had 2, we were trying to do a 6 man pool with a single freaking TV. had i realized this i would have asked sheridan to kick people off other TVs so we could have more. so OK, i'll take partial credit for that one.

and despite my frequently negative attitude, you can ask my pool, i was having a good time lol.

Don't say my post was a failure of getting my facts straight and then do pretty much nothing to correct the facts.
Your pool ended up having matches on THREE tvs. The two along the wall and the one on the cart closest to those two. You may have started with just one, but you ended up with enough TVs. I did not know about the nhat 'situation', but that alone shouldn't have [couldn't have?] delayed your pool what seemed to be an hour past the rest of the pools finishing.

As a third party to this issue, I feel pretty safe in saying that Germ was making light of the situation. Was he annoyed? Probably. I think it was pretty apparent that a lot of people weren't happy that they couldn't sit there and watch the finals without 'bother'. However, I do not think what he said warranted the response it got from you at the time or the mention it got in your post here.

As for the garbage issue, it's hard for me to say how bad it actually was. personally, I didn't think it looked that bad during the tournament. Also, I don't really have a problem cleaning up after other people. I think I'm pretty forgiving of the short comings of my peers, and one of them is that people never seem to clean up after themselves.
This is the first time I've ever seen this be an issue at a tournament. Which is why I am saying it seems to be a problem brought on by the food and drinks being right there inside the room. You guys DID take precautions to try and stop it from being a problem, but it was a problem none the less.

pocky:
Have there been other garbage issues recently at tournaments here? Again, this is the first time it's been a problem here as far as I know...

whether the host makes a big deal out of it is not directly related to whether or not such a problem actually exists

i've noticed that people have a habit of eating, leaving mid-meal to go play smash, then never returning, such that eventually there's like 40 half-eaten food items on a table

at the end of the day, it honestly just comes down to how much respect people have for the host // people running the tournament // the people telling them to throw their stuff away ...........................

which is unfortunate because cleaning up after yourself should be common decency, without even actually needing to be told to do so

alright brian you dont seem to understand. my pool ended an hour later than the rest of them because it started an hour later than the rest of them.

we didnt start ANYTHING until after 6, and everyone was well aware of the time constraints, and everyone is well aware that a 40+ man tourney isnt going to happen in 4 and a half hours if we do pools. we simply did not start early enough to be done by the end.

you wearnt bending over backwards to let people stay in the room to play and watch the finals. i missed that whole set between tang and lunin because i was setting the room back up and cleaning up after people. i missed the beginning of ss vs. rey because i was talking to the other CS members assuring them that stuff was almost done. i missed a couple games that were widely watched before that because i had to take all the TVs and navigate them around a bunch of people who were getting annoyed because i asked them to move. you may have felt it a humorous and light, but it downright made me angry.

and brian, if you didnt look over by the food area, you didnt know how bad it was. there was about 20 coke bottlecaps just sitting there, and one of them had gum in it. there were about 30 empty wrappers on the floor, simply discarded about 6 feet away from a trash can. there were 5 soup bowls with sludge from unfinished raman noodles at the bottom about 7 feet away from the same trash can. so i have to repeat myself on how many times i told people to pick up the trash?

so while i had a good time at the tourney, you're downright annoying me by giving me lip for explaning to people that sjsu tournies are done. the 4 of us that were there at the end all felt exactly the same about everything ive said, so you really dont have any right to come in here and tell me that im not being fair to the community because we gave them food and they didnt clean up after themselves, or that we let them keep playing and keep watching even though people were making offhand remarks about it.

most of your posts are annoying, and while you're usually cool in person, i never see you play much and i dont believe you've ever hosted anything. so next time you want to give the tourney host crap, first ask yourself what you've contributed, if anything at all, to the community.

ok. rant done. i will not comment further on any of this. i feel better now. please do not instigate more issues.

^ dude, you really shouldn't be hosting any tournaments, like, at all

if you're not prepared for the hassle and not prepared to give more than everyone else is, then why the **** are you hosting a tourny. it's not fun at all

you come off as extremely whiny and immature, mostly about things a good TO would already know and account for beforehand and even if they felt annoyed and unsatisfied, they wouldn't whine and ***** about it in the form of a public rant

this is the one time i whole heartedly agree w/ P.

and imo sheridan was the host. not you. he did all the work, he ran the pools, he ran the brackets, collected the money, he did everything.

you just asked for the club to use the room and was around to watch everything. oh and u moved the furniture around (which btw a few people, like phil and hmw were willing to help you with).

sheridan was the host, not you.

im sad that there won't be anymore tournaments at sjsu, but stop acting like you're a saint and did everything.
