When I move back to the states I will enter tourneys to represent Luigi, I've done so once thus far.

(heads up/ semi-apology. I just got baked, so this is most likely misplaced and completely irrelevant. Feel free to disregard)

I think I just realized something fundamentally wrong with my game. I'm thinking too hard. I spend all my time doing smash calculus when I play this game. (what are my options? whats he about to use? How much damage will this do. What's my highest priority right now. Ect.) And I don't just chill on "dont get hit, hit the other guy." I need to simplify my philosophy.

Maybe you do to? hah maybe not. weird.

You ARE baked. If you can think while you fight, then there's no such thing as overthinking IMO. But, if you want to keep your thoughts simple, this is the ONE question you should have in your brain the entire fight... ready?

"What am I doing wrong?"

Doesn't matter if you're winning or losing, THAT's the question that you should always be looking the answer for while you fight. Don't jump into the ****.

GGs. I lol'd at the misfires. High risk and high reward just made that go to a wtf moment lawl. Can't believe my diddy beat luigi. Effin hard as hell considering its his hard match up >_<.

Well your buffering needs work. I mean you know what your doing, but you need to adjust it and pratice a lil. Like you need to buffer much much faster at like Boss's speed if you want anything. You were abit kind of predictable too with it. Espically when im like 90%, you buffered and tried to fsmash me >_< Oh and don't over use the smashs please? Fsmash was hella decayed fo sho.

But yes all is kewl, mostly pratice buffering faster, using abit more tilts into buffers and jabed buffers, shoryuken buffer works fine too, and less smashs frmo buffers.

yea its really hard for me to do online, but believe me my offline is MUCH quicker (not as fast as boss ofc)....but yea ive been trying to do buffer+jab and buffer up tilt (this is an awesome one) more. i just started monday so i obviously still need alot of work, but i can see the potential this thing has... i can see myself shaping my luigi around it.

p.s. ye i know i was predictable. my goal wasn't to play properly. i was just spamming the buffer so i can get used to it
pps. i have a tourny saturday and im going to try to get videos. i will post those and have everyone critique the hell out of them
ppps. I HATE DIDDY

lol ggs. that was a buffer marathon. i don tknow about you but its IMPOSSIBLE for me to fastfall buffer online. oh yea, btw, do you always buffer that much during our matches? until this week i didn't know what it was so i dont remember if you always used to do that

I've known how to do it since the beginning of the SIMPLE Ladder, and I used it sparingly during, but today I felt I would spam it for the sake of learning just like you.

EDIT: BTW, since you're the only person that's done it on me, I JUST realized how difficult it is to Shield Grab FFADs. This might be a nice tactic against DDD.

as you know i always play aggressive and approach with the dair alot so this fits me quite well and is extremly useful, but i dont know if maybe im doing it TOO much... what do u think?

edit: yea i noticed that too while playing against some ddds online. plus smash buffers are extremly useful since his shield is so weak

it also almost eliminates my need to ff nair to land faster which often led to being shield grabbed

Here's my thought on whether or not you use it too much:

Whenever you learn something new...
Step 1. Practice it 'til you can do it successfuly 90% of the time.
Step 2. Spam it in friendlies until you find out when it's useful and when it isn't.
Step 3. Profit.

I think you're at Step 2. When you realize you're getting punished or you missed an opportunity, you learn a little more. I say you spam it until you find out when you should be FFADing and when you should be Double Aerialing. You'll find your balance if/when you start getting punished.

EDIT:

That's what I meant about it being hard to Shield Grab you when you FFAD. FFADing will probably reduce the amount of times you get Shield Grabbed from an nAir.

I dont think its harder to shieldgrab. You just have adjust your timing on the shieldgrabs. It took me a while to get used to the luigi ditto buffer style since I had to adjust my spacing/precision/timing etc. But it's nice to mix it up.

Personally chic, i think you should follow elh's method steps. Basic profit from there.

I know you hate math hippster, but if you take a look it from a frame by frame perspective you'll see it IS somewhat harder to Shield Grab a FFAD than an nAir.

If you come down on DDD with an nAir and he is holding the Shield, then the nAir will connect on his Shield near the beginning, giving him about 1/2 of a second (somewhere less than 29 frames of your nAir hitbox, plus 10 frames of your nAir Landlag) to press the Grab button on you. Half a second is plenty of time for a human to react (average humans react in about less than 1/5th of a second).

If you come down on DDD with a FFAD to Reverse Techroll (I still need to practice getting this) and he is holding a Shield, then you will be invincible for about 10 frames (i'm estimating right here) then as you land then get about 4 frames of lag upon landing and finally instantly Techroll backwards (no startup lag for that). So DDDs grab (i think his is like 2-4 frames) means he has like 1/10th of a second to grab you.

1/10th compared to 1/2 of a second is a big difference.

What... is an FFAD?...
You know how we're used to doing Short Hop to dAir and then nAir? Instead of doing an nAir, you do a FFAD (Fast Fall Air Dodge, just like Player01 said) instead. It takes some getting used to, but when you've got it, it's another way to spice up Luigi's Short Hop approach game.

FFAD is an old advanced technique. You can see old videos of Boss doing it. It just sort-of went by different names (Buffering, L-canceling, etc.).

Does anyone wanna play friendlies that don't involve L-cancelling/move buffering/FFAD/etc.

with my slow fingers, i cannot do alot of AT's,which sucks and is why I am even worse in melee
