Like the ones that occur in this video from 7:50-7:52? Because what you described definitely sounds like a Sakurai thing to do.

"To explain Grazing, let's talk about Glancing Hits. Most of the time, you might not get this, but a Glancing Hit is when an attack just barely hits the opponent. Notice the flashy sparks and sharp sound that is heard when this occurs."
That Mii Brawler is gonna get a massive point increase from that supergraze, that's for sure.

Seems like the identity of Sponsor X has been confirmed.
People are saying it's ryu's Office.
http://ryusoffice.co.jp/

They are the marketing agents behind Persona and Fate/Grand Order and such.
They are the organizer of Indie Live Expo as well.
Not expected, but definitely huge.

EDIT: I said "confirmed" but it's not official by any means, more like a leak talk.

Sponsor X will hold a live broadcast called "Touhou Danmaku Festival" as part of the 25th Anniversary of Touhou
https://danmaku.jp/

A special program for all those who are familiar with "Touhou" celebrating 25 years
We will deliver a variety of special live performances and the latest information on Touhou content!
EDIT: And looking back on their website. I forgot they also sponsored the Touhou booth for WePlay Game Expo 2019 as well as the recent Flowering Night 2020 broadcast.
Hang on, touhou really is 25 years old? I'm only 10 years older then touhou? Jesus

I wouldn't say "not expected". If we had to guess, this would have been the most likely since they just hosted an event which had Touhou as the most highlighted franchise. Though, it doesn't really make sense they would hide their identity at this point.

The one thing that gives me slight hope with the Daisy situation is that she wasn't touched in the patch, and afaik this graphical glitch never happened before 8.0.
Everytime I see Touhou Lostword, I always thinking: What will Reimu sound like in Smash?
or she just be silent like Villanger & Isabelle (who talk in their origin game)
It's a little off-putting to me whenever I hear touhou characters talk, so I hope she'll mostly be silent.
Though if they put her in I hope they'll play the death sound effect whenever she gets knocked offscreen.

And then everyone freaks out about it because nobody actually noticed it despite the fact that's been around since Melee.
About the Daisy Glitch, it is interesting that it's not some part of Daisy's dress missing, it's straight cut at a specific length. Strangely enough, that length is the perfect length for Reimu's skirt (knee length), the angle of the skirt is also very spot on. And I can't find another characther that wear specifically that kind of skirt, for example Arla Nadja's skirt is quite shorter.
I think someone suggested Daisy would be used as a base for 2B, and that's at fairly believable. I'd suggest it has something to do with the self-destruct mechanic since it was triggered by Little Mac's punch, but I have no idea how the code would leak into Daisy.
Since when "Glancing hits" are in the game ?
Ever since Melee, actually. Surprising we just heard about them now.

2B's skirt is also much shorter, unless they censor her like they would certainly do.

I'm aware of Melee's glancing hits. I thought this was only a Melee thing and that they removed it for the next games.

edit : from the wiki, it does exist after Melee, but the mechanic is different. Now it doesn't do anything, except a visual feedback.

I wouldn't put any stock into any of these glitches. None of the glitches that "hinted" at characters have panned out in any way. What is interesting is the graze, only because it sounds like a different sound effect than it was before, but that could just be because of the rapid succession of hits.

Makes sense how?
It's a big enough company with money. They are primarily a Mobile game company and I could see them wanting a piece of the Touhou pie. It's also a company I forgot existed so it just wouldn't have been a surprise. At least for me.

So if/when Reimu joins Smash, should we shut this thread down or do we repurpose it into a general Touhou newcomer thread? Because I'm interesting to see who takes up the role of most popular Touhou rep after Reimu.

Typically, The threads get moved to the Character section and they become a social thread.

Everyone Is welcome to open up that thread if that ever happens.

Personally I'd still be in for a general Touhou thread inside to keep up with discussions, official news and speculation for what else is there to come for Touhou in the future.

This is the only correct answer when it comes to the 2nd Touhou rep.

Now, Skydrift, yeah, that game's real heckin' good. I only took minor issue with the few odd invisible walls on one or two courses. Are they still adding more content to it? I haven't checked in on it for, what, half a year.
A bit late, considering the discussion's moved elsewhere (didn't check SmashBoards until just now) but besides two western tournaments to win a PC-98 style Reimu / Marisa and minor updates that tweak things, there's been two tournaments that decided new characters. The first was the Alice one and the second winner picked Rin (Orin, not the cancelled EoSD character, Rin Satsuki). They also showed images of the Alice model / the artwork for her and some alternate colour schemes for Clownpiece on the stream for the second tournament.

The roadmap on Steam suggests they intended to have a Heaven update in Q1 but obviously that didn't happen. They also intended to add some characters and courses for free in Q2, in addition to potentially adding some paid DLC but that also hasn't happened. Q3 has plans for a third tournament, although considering the lack of news about the previous stuff, I kind of doubt we'll be seeing it for a while.

There was a super small wants poll just for the 5chan speculation thread.
They did it quick and secretly to avoid outsiders so not many votes there but I'll just throw the result here for anyone who's interested,

Ooops, didn't mean to post it here. Sorry.
But Reimu did well there too. I thought Reimu supports from Japan are mostly coming from Twitter and YouTube people so this result is surprising to me.

In regards to who would come being the most popular Touhou rep outside of Reimu:

I'm mostly interested on how things might go with the Smash fandom, since Reimu in Smash would introduce a new audience to the franchise. Plus, what the Smash fandom wants doesn't always match up with the franchise itself (i.e. Geno over Toad). Marisa will probably become the next big request for Touhou, but depending on how things go people might lean towards someone else.
I remember when we talked about the doujin leak, there was one rumor/speculation about a team dynamic between Reimu and Yukari. While that's pretty unlikely, on the off-chance it does happen, I wonder how it might affect the speculation scene. Even if we don't (Which is more likely), I wonder how many requests we'll see for a Touhou team character.

I feel like Youmu, Sakuya or Sanae could outdo Flandre by this point. Although Flandre does have one of if not the most known themes associated to her.

Marisa would be fun, but I can't imagine 2 indie reps let alone from the same series. A tag team character would be interesting in Reimu/Marisa but would seem somewhat hard to implement and make fun.

Maybe. The way I saw that she stood out was on the music alone. More people recognize U. N. Owen Was Her?! more than character that is attached to it than the other way around. Everybody's got their top picks at the end of the day.

And didn't Koishi shoot up to the top? I know she got 3rd place in the most recent wiki(?) poll, so there's that.
I actually didn't know there was a wiki poll. Most of the Touhou picks are legacy though, but it's still a good measurement of fan interest!

Not sure if it was a wiki poll or something else, but there was definitely a poll for the Japanese side of the fanbase. The winner was actually Youmu, followed by Reimu, Koishi, and Marisa, in that order. Pretty impressive for Koishi, considering the other top scorers.

Koishi is really popular for some reason. I don't get it, personally, but to each their own!

I believe it all started with this one fanmade web series called Koishi Komeiji's Heart-Throbbing Adventure. I haven't seen it, but from what I've heard starts with Koishi trying to get a fishing rod and spirals into something that's best described as ****ed up beyond belief. Also, her Last Word spell in ULiL is generally agreed to be horrifying like the aforementioned web videos, which probably pushed her into the upper echelons of popularity.

Considering how most of the SNK characters were given cameos in the Stadium while only a handful got Spirits, do you think the Touhou Spirits would be based on popularity and appearances, or would they be based on how well they translate to Spirit Battles and abilities, while most of the popular characters get cameos?

You know, that's a good question.

Now I'm not a game developer yet, but I don't see how hard it can be to implement Spirit Battles. Then again, the most we ever get in free updates is 4 at most, and about 12 at most in DLC packs. Touhou might be the exception considering how lax ZUN is, but then again, there are only a few SNK spirits considering how much the company gave to Smash. So I dunno. I think it could be based on a little bit of both, actually. There are some Touhou characters that are not only popular but also easy to translate into a Smash spirit. But again, I dunno.

I'd expect the playable characters with the most appearances + Yukari as the legendary spirit

The thing is, the Spirit Boards looks to have a limited carrying capacity, like the SNK Spirits you mentioned. I'd imagine some corners might have to be cut, like, for example, any master/servant dynamics might have to be folded into a single Spirit-For example, Youmu's Spirit Battle would contain some nods to Yuyuko as well, and Sanae's battle would represent the Moriya Shrine deities.
Comparing the DLC characters to the base game series, like Street Fighter or Castlevania, really makes them seem small. No Assist Trophies, generally limited Spirits and songs, no World of Light areas, etc. If Reimu was in the base game, there would probably be a ton of Touhou Spirits, but there needs to be less so they can all be crammed into the Spirit Board.

While this may be unlikely, if you could choose a Touhou music circle to have their songs come with Reimu's DLC, who would you choose?

Probably Dark PHOENiX. idk if this circle is more obscure these days, since they disbanded in, like, 2012, but they've got some of the all time best remixes of Touhou music. They're kinda a progrock group, it's hard to quite nail down their sound. And their cover of Plain Asia is definitely in contention for my favorite musical piece period.

Though choice between Demetori and Akatsuki Records. I think that Akatsuki Records would be my pick in the end.

While I think the Active NEETS would be the most fitting, in terms of musical styles (the jazz and orchestral ones could both fit Smash pretty well), I AM a bit biased towards S.S.H. (Saitama Saisyu Heiki) and Aether-Eru, since their music was part of what convinced me to get into the Touhou games (alongside DJ The S). Found out about them from two places: first was Super Mario Bros Z Episode 8 having S.S.H.'s cover of the Mario theme (Powerglove also covered the S.S.H. version of the theme as well for Mario Minor). The second was from a YouTuber I used to watch called MasterMax888 who had one of their versions of Septette for the Dead Princess as an outro. Though if they DO end up being brought in for Smash Bros, S.S.H. will probably end up covering Illusionary Night ~ Ghostly Eyes for the 11th time (not exaggerating, they have an obsession with that track).

This one's deffiniley a step up. A lot cleaner and more detailed, while keeping a dynamic pose. While a bit too fan-ish for my tastes, the alts look nice and I appreciate the effort that went into them; except the PC98 alt, that one can stay.

btw, is there a version that's got a transparent background? y'know, to layer it on mock-ups and the like.

I like it a bunch! The alts are really well done too. As much as I like Kokoro I'd probably swap her for Sanae, I think it makes a bit more sense. Same with Cirno, you could have Aya or Sakuya there. But I think they overall look pretty good!
