She's not known for see-through pants, so those beldah will probably always only be slightly see through, if at all.

Yeah, I expect shadows at most.

Also, come to think of it, Risky and Sky also wear that kind of pants, or at least similar ones. Rottytops is the only main gal in the series going against the grain and just goes for 90s fashion instead (and she certainly isn't shy about wearing less than the others).

I think I read an interview with Matt Bozon somewhere that this joke was a jab at people that complain about her skimpy outfit. Personally, I feel the same way. xD

I think people overblow the issue.

1. I agree. I don't think her design alone is enough to warrant T-rating. However, considering what they did with Samus and Snake in Ultimate I wouldn't be surprised if they toned down Shantae's design even if they didn't technically need to in order to get an E-10+.
I'm way more upset about Snake's booty being gone than I should be. xD

I don't think her pants will be transparent if she gets in Smash. Similar to F!Corrin censorship. I think that's an okay middle ground.

If Shantae were to get it, I can't really think of a reason to not include Dance Through the Danger, honestly.

Plus it'd just be a shame for it to not make it in, not just because it's a great song, but because there is literally no such thing as too much Cristina Vee.

So, random topic...

Given that Squid Baron, since his introduction in Risky's Revenge, has progressively been fought further and further along in the game (even being second-to-last in HGH) what do you guys think the odds are of him being the final boss in Shantae 5? I'm thinking they have to be pretty good since he was second-to-last in the last game and his dream at this point is basically to be the final boss.

I'm super curious to see how WayForward would handle that. xD

Reminds me of the whole Asagi running gag with Nippon Ichi. :p

That said, maybe he and Risky would constantly try to beat each other up while the player attacks them. Sorta like Eggman and Heavy King in Sonic Mania.

I think the only set of clothes to get a possible teen rating is her jammies. the top is very loose (and i don't think she's even wearing a bra). if they add that costume they'll probably censor it like with bayonetta's and female corrin's clothes

her default costume is totally fine, at a distance it's basically a swimsuit with pants :3

I think you forgot about Shantae's "Space Princess" outfit. That is a costume that has no chance making it in this game. As for the jammies, I guess the design might need to be changed a little, but I don't know how they would censor it.

didn't mention the space princess because i think it's a no brainer ^^;

i think they'll just tighten her jammies (at least her top) up to be around her skin instead of it being super loose

So am I alone wanting Squid Baron in some way.

He's the reason I love Shanate games so much. I played Pirate's Curse for the first time and was really enjoying myself. The Squid was my favorite character. Then I fought the guy and immediately realised that Shantae games were special.
You're not alone. I love especially how he best represents the fourth-wall breaks and general awareness put into her games. It gives them a looser feel, and story-wise allows for more creative twists and turns.
I think he has little chance of becoming a boss, (unless Shantae ends up getting big representation and the Spirits mode ends up being very in-depth) but I would still love to see it happen.

Well, that would mean he'd be a big component of some sort of massive disruptance towards Scuttle Town,
(ala The Pirate King in Pirate's Curse, a creation of Risky like Nega-Shantae in Risky's Revenge, or a complete accident like Tinkerbrain in HGH)
and I highly doubt he has the evil intent or brainpower to do something of the sort. XD
Though now that I think about it, it could make for an awesome DLC quest in HGH or a future game, with a humorous take on gameplay like Jammies mode. It could be a smaller-yet-still-big step, being the final boss of a secondary game mode.

Yeah. As I said before on this thread, they probably won't change her design that much. Krystal is in her Adventure outfit, and on the Krystal thread we all agreed she won't be showing up on that outfit. But low and behold as an AT in that outfit.

EDIT: At least most of us did for Krystal.
Well, I believe standards like those are different for animals, since Krystal is a vixen, and even though furries exist, it wouldn't set off any red flags to a casual audience in the same way that a sexualized human character would (since Krystal isn't really "sexualized" as much as she's just wearing less clothes). And to be fair, Krystal is already a uniquely designed character, so I highly doubt the outfit is the only thing people fixate on with her (again, not including just furries/anti-furries).

Well, the "Space Princess" outfit is already based on Princess Leia anyways, so that would pose the additional issue of "copyright?" And it isn't really a signature Shantae outfit, rather just a gimmick for one of the worlds in Pirate's Curse, so it most likely doesn't hold up enough relevancy to be a costume anyways. But it does hold a place in our hearts ;)

Damn, I'm getting completely overwhelmed on mobile. Messages come way too quickly on here. I'll have to upgrade to my laptop soon. XD

So in terms of her 3d model, which way will they go with it, will they base it more on Pirates Curse, or Half Genie Hero?
I'm personally hoping for Pirates Curse.

I'm pretty sure that's why WF didn't include it in their Smash alt palette/costume concept sheet.
Exactly. I don't care if the games it appears in aren't rated T, having that outfit in full on 3D as well as high definition would send every alarm you can think of blaring.

I guess that could work, but wouldn't be a different top entirely by that point? I mean, that sort of top is supposed to be loose, right? I admit, and this might sound weird, but at that point you lose the charm of the original outfit. It sorta helps give off that lazy feel and it goes along well with the let down hair, which likely would be gone as well in order to still have logical hair whipping. At that point you may as well just make a white alternate to the regular outfit.

...Huh. I never thought I would get so riled up about how pajamas are portrayed. Honestly, the only costume I can really see happening is the Pirate Outfit, mainly because that would be really easy to do and would fit if Pirate Gear was apart of her moveset. I mean, how many third party characters have in depth alternate outfits?

I am thinking Pirate's Curse as well, or perhaps a mix of that as well as the HGH portrait art of the characters.

They generally tend to go with the most recent game design for a character in smash unless they feel a previous design is more iconic. Since Shantae's design in Pirate's Curse and HGH are pretty similar they'd probably go with HGH. I think Pirate's Curse design would be better as it has more detail with her vest, gun, and pirate skull. Speaking of which, I'm sure they'd change her gun to look less realistic.

I'm guessing if it were to be one of the two, it would probably be closer to Pirate's Curse, because that less-chibi design would fit in more with the other characters, and it isn't though there's that much of a difference between the two.

What I believe is more likely, since WF changes her design with each game, and since this is the first time she'd appear in 3D, is to give her a new design, but keep elements of both PC and HGH. Something like: her porportions and shading from PC, but her transformations, outfits, and everytihing else from HGH.

Also, is it just me, or does she keep getting smaller and smaller with each game?

Is that out there somewhere? Does anyone have a link?
I'd like to see it if possilble :)

Also for the gun, they might just need to alter it slightly. Make it a little more colourful and stuff. I'm just thinking 'cause K. Rool has a real-ish gun with the Blunderbuss and that's just kinda cartoony.

Can we just take a moment to realize that skull kid wasn’t even talked about during smash 4, let alone the following years? Now all of a sudden the AT not being shown is raising speculation even though there is at least one more assist montage? Imo people need to stop over looking so many things.

I mean, we can, but I don't think this is the best place to discuss that.

Well, he did win that one poll before Smash 4, and Sakurai did allude to him being a request ("I repeat, he is not playable!"). And people have been asking for a new unique Zelda rep for years. Although Midna and Impa probably did better than him in the ballot so idk

I think the problem is that even though there's nothing concrete at all, there's a lot of little bits that went into it, namely leaks, sayings that can be misconstrued, and things they think are hints to it. It's all pure speculation, but there's quite a lot of people that are invested in it now, and we might just have to wait for the release for some people to come closer to understand how they read too far into certain things.

Speculation is speculation though, let's just have fun and see what comes.

Even though I do like the Pirate’s Curse artwork, I’m gonna be the odd man out and say I’m personally hoping the HGH portrait art is used as the basis for her design in Smash.

There seems to be some characters are designed with their in-game sprites in mind (most notably Mega Man) and while her artwork has drastically changed with each game, her in-game sprites have had a more or less consistency to their design and proportions and I feel like her HGH portrait art reflects it better (another thought that crossed my mind about her Pirate’s Curse design is depending on how they scale her, it might be too tall for her hair whip to be effective). Also, if they incorporate her pirate outfit as a costume, since her PC design has the vest already, it would feel more like an actual costume on the HGH design since it would put on the vest as well the bandana and belt/gun.

If we're going to be realistic a lot of our "evidence" is mostly speculation and fan theory and Shantae probably doesn't have a great chance of being playable, but speculation is half the fun during smash hype. Especially for smaller, less popular characters like Shantae, Geno, Skull Kid etc. at least when compared to characters like King K. Rool.

I think Shantae has a much better chance of being playable. It depends what you base your speculation on. Some things are more concrete than other things. Well, the playable part is still iffy too, but still decent, who knows..

And how concrete is our stuff?
I think for Shantae it mostly has to do with votes, which is decently concrete, and WF silence, which is as well. It's the non-compete theory that's more iffy, but pretty good compared to random things taken as hints.

I'm inclined to agree. Skull Kid has a huge bandwagon going for him right now simply because he wasn't shown as an assist yet. Notice how no leak had him before the direct and now all of them do? Don't get me wrong, I want him playable, but there is a lot of hype.

And I think the purple and yellow chairs resemble Shantae's colors more than the fairies if you want to look more into that.

There's more evidence for Shantae than Skull Kid.

I do think we could make a legitimate argument that there was hints to Shantae in that room, but the topic has not really come up much.

I don't think there's much more that we can say. Apart from that it's her colors and some say the pillows are arabian in style, to some degree. Some people might love that, but again it's random stuff that people take as hints. Doesn't mean it has no meaning, but I think the odds of that are low, and then to pin it on one character over another is just.. it'd be looking for evidence for the character you want, and I don't like to do that, cuz it's so vague. But don't let that stop you from speculating, I'm just sharing my own take on it.

Thank you very much, those are great!

I'd honestly love if Nintendo went with the Rottytops and Jammy alts <3
You know, we have never brought that up. What if Shantae got the Rottytops alt? I mean, it certainly would be unique(Yay for playing as a zombie) and would be a cool reference to one of the series most popular characters and one of Shantae's best friends.

All I know is that those purple and yellow chairs are there for a reason. They clash with the room way to much for me to just ignore them.

People think too much about it, take it to mean something. I'll take that back if there's more stuff that happens that fits the bill, but it hasn't been enough up to now to show that it does for me.
Nintendo ain't gonna be all fashion-savvy. What's wrong with yellow and purple chairs, they're fine. ;p

I heard that at one point Sakurai himself said something like that he found fans weird to take everything as if they mean something for smash. I bet he's there being like... what they're taking my new chairs to mean characters now? how do I decorate, geez.
just playin' a bit.

I doubt have an ounce of fashion in me and those chairs bother the heck out of me. And I mean, there was the E3 that inexplicably had a barrel, a rope ladder, and a very wood based background that all could have pointed to the DK series, and therefor K.Rool.

So a while back, I predicted that Shovel Knight and Shantae would be in Brawlout because the developers added Hyper Light Drifter and Juan, while promising more indie characters. I didn’t think SK or Shantae had a chance in Smash, so this was where my mind went. However, SK has obviously been revealed as an assist trophy in Smash, and Shantae has yet to be revealed in either title despite her status as Indie Queen. Yooka-Laylee and the character from Dead Cells have instead been revealed as the new indie characters in Brawlout, leading me to believe that Shantae is in a class above those characters and therefore won’t be appearing in that game. That leads me to speculate that she will indeed appear in Smash in some form, whether that would be joining SK as an assist, or receiving the coveted playable spot.
