I agree that Shantae has a better chance than Ashley, but I really hope that she doesn't meet the same fate as her. I'd hate to be disappointed again by having another character I want to be regulated to being an assist trophy.

But hey, not only is there more time, but there's also the possibility for DLC as someone mentioned. So you've potentially got a ways to wait, lol. But don't let me reduce your hype. I'm stoked too, but I'm looking the distance as well.

Can you imagine if we have to wait for after the release too? It's a long time not just for us but for WayForward too! I'd say if they continue to be quiet even after release, that's a hint that the timeline is a bit more forward, and that we have to wair for dlc. I pray it's not that long haha.

I was looking about Shovel Knight, and if they said anything about knowing how long before that SK was in the game, and if they knew he was going to be an assist, but I couldn't find anything. Anyone have info on that? All I could find was this tweet, besides the one that's stickied: "What a day it has been! We're all still mega excited about the Shovel Knight and Smash news, so we're going to stream some games later today to unwind/continue to yell excitedly! "

-If they were that excited, is it possible that they themselves didn't know if he was going to be anything beyond a regular trophy?
I'm just posing the question, I'm curious what yous think.

For what I hope to see, aside from the Shantae thing (which I highly doubt, but I can hope lmao), are some more details on the Shovel Knight DLC, actual new announcements, and some crossover stuff between Nintendo and an Indie title inside of one of the announcements.

What I really don't want it to be is a redo of the previously released Indie showcase released on the UK site. But we'll see.

This happened to me with Knuckles, Bomberman, Krystal, AND Ashley. It sucks to have a lot of your wants get deconfirmed. Now with my luck, Shantae and Bandana Dee will be deconfirmed at the same time, and they’ll show an Incineroar reveal in the same trailer.

Which is why I have a love-hate relationship with assist trophies. At this point I'd rather Shantae not be shown at all than be shown as an assist trophy. At least then she'd have a chance as DLC.

I doubt she was any form of popular, as the only game she had at the time was her first game, but that first game was a cult classic, and there was a third party request fever at the time. I am just curious.

Hopefully Sakurai can upgrade assists to playable for DLC as opposed to brand new characters, because there is so much potential there (+most modern characters are meh at best), and I want the (BLANK) & Knuckles joke to work for this game (aside from really wanting Knuckles, as the only other sonic characters I want are Tails and Espio, who don’t exactly have the best chances).

Because some people treat indie like a franchise, with main characters, side character, and those characters you just despise. To some, having Shantae before SK would be like having Zelda before Link.

I suppose they don’t want to admit Shantae generally has more moveset potential (for SK, I’ll admit I could only think of his aerial game plus down smash and jab, and this is after playing his game with my friend. He definitely has a lot for colors that he could use though) and more history with Nintendo

Yeah maybe. But nothing says that if she got in, SK couldn’t be promoted during dlc

People forget that Shantae has a much longer history with Nintendo than SK, and frankly she's a more expressive character with greater moveset potential. She ticks more newcomer boxes than SK does.

Honestly, I think SK not having been known in japan at the time counts for a lot more than the rest, and the rest counts too.

And lets not forget where the founders of Yachtclub originate from. They are former Wayforward developers, and in all likelihood, SK owes some of his existence to Shantae. It's been said before, but in some meta sense, Shantae could very well be like SK's mother. Again, in a meta sense.

If Cloud was leaked prior to his reveal as "Square Enix Character" everyone would have assumed geno then too.

That mentality should only work for EXTREMELY big hits like K. Rool and Ridley. Shovel Knight isn’t even that much more popular than Shantae in total and doesn’t have enough to give him the edge in that battle anyway.

I can see the comparison, but there is other things going for Geno beside pure popularity.

Anyway, I have the distinct feeling that we are gonna be seeing that whole "SK or bust" argument a lot in the near future if nothing is announced soon. I swear, her next Rate Their Chances is gonna be very split.

Think Bayo, If Nintendo never adopted Bayonetta do you really beileve she would of won the ballot? I dont think so they would of seen her as more of a Sony/Microsoft rep.
