Not sure. Twitter lists who you follow by most recently followed (in descending order), so that is a pretty recent action (depending on how often he follows people). I'm gonna try and find his cached followed list real quick.

For the record, Risky could only be a Shantae echo if her moveset was entirely based off of Pirate's Curse where Shantae had to use Risky's gear to compensate for her lost Genie powers.

There are only 3 characters(Or I guess 4) that I can see as of now becoming playable at some point in the future. SK, Shantae, and Quote/Curly. A lot of the others I would bank on AT status or being a regular trophy.

At this point I would find it hard to believe she made it in ONLY as an assist trophy with all this radio silence from them regarding her status in Smash.

Cause as it was mentioned before, Yacht Club actually did like tweets regarding Shovel Knight for Ultimate long before his fate was revealed.

Okay, so finding a cached version of his followed list is impossible unless you already have the cache of it on your system (because Twitter is stupid >.>). But using the WaybackMachine I found out that at the time of December of 2017, Matt only followed 480 people. It doesn't tell us much, but that does mean that he followed Sakurai this year. And more than likely, he followed him within the past couple months, if not weeks (or days if you want to put on your tinfoil hat owo). There's real way to tell exactly when he followed him, only that it was pretty recently.

If that's the case, I'm not expecting Shantae if it's exclusive to a single region, but that's just me: I just think it would naturally make more sense for this to be a region wide direct if they had intentions of revealing a new character.

It feels like there's been too much evidence for Shantae to be just an assist trophy. Why go through all this song and dance routine for an AT when other companies were more open about it?

At the moment I'm hoping for the best, but fully prepared for the worst. The Nindies Direct would be the perfect time to reveal her in Smash, or at least drop a hint to her reveal.

Exactly, and Ultimate is a game all about fanservice. Remember that the last Direct was more geared towards a Japanese audience.

Honestly if there was any form of representation for Minecraft, I'd want it to be a stage. The world is the interesting,iconic thing about that game, not the main character IMO.

Speaking of stages tho, man if Shantae got a stage it'd be one of the best sounding ones by far. So much good music that could make great themes for Smash!

Why would people argue against more stages anyway? They know they’re wrong. We still have at least three months of speculation to go, so why would Sakurai give all the stages 4 months early? It’s not a Sakurai thing to do. If anything, there’s about 10 more and about 6 more unique fighters. Just waiting for Sakurai to start dropping modes in October.
Edit: Why would the mute city we have be labeled Mute City SNES if the one from melee isn’t returning?

Falcon & Ness didn't have stages in 64, and then Marth & Roy didn't have Fire Emblem stages in Melee.

I'm 99% certain that she won't be shown at the Direct, but pay attention to Sakurai and Matt tomorrow. If they drop hints then that'll send the speculation into overdrive.
