Awww, I was hoping it was the same guy from the original Doom. The Doom 3 guy is now permanent.
Too many Doom Guys/Slayers. I thought that they were from the same family tree, or at least, that’s what I read on the wiki if I interpreted it correctly.

Even if those character do have different names, it’s not like A quick google search can’t just tell them who it is. For simple Japanese, google translate does just fine. Hell, our Japanese associates use it when they are too lazy to send emails off to our in-house translators. It’s not perfect, obviously (and sometimes painfully), but if you understand what the context of the conversation is, you could easily figure it out.

The thing is though, in order to sell and market the game the translation needs to be done far in advance in order to get the go ahead from Nintendo and Sora Limited and get retail distribution on board. And you’re right, the translator departments would only individually have the bits and pieces they specifically are working on.

I mean, I’m not saying leakers online are accurate. I’m just saying it’s not *impossible* for someone like Verg, someone who has done accurate and inaccurate leaks in the past, to be friends with someone on a localization team who has a few of the bits and pieces of the script, which he is then using as the basis for his text leaks. He might be full of it, he might not be. We won’t know until the full roster is out. I’m just saying it’s not as impossible as you’d think.

As a side note, I’d actually be really surprised if Sora limited and Nintendo didn’t use some kind of code names for the game information internally. Our company almost never utilized the actual product name when development, marketing, and regulatory analysis is being done, exactly to compartmentalization knowledge. If I had to hazard a guess, if Verg is truly getting info from somewhere, it’s proably a localization team member or a third party translator.
Fair enough.
But I think it's naive to believe him, without proper evidence.

Especially if-
1. All the characters he "leaked" were safe bets.
2. He didn't know about some characters.
3. Got details about some characters wrong.
4. Refuses to say the names of leaked characters, supposedly to protect his sources, only to do it anyways later on, throwing his sources under the bus.

So me personally, I can see a lot of Red Flags there, that make his status as a genuine leaker questionable, to say the least.

Ya, something like that. In addition, I know one of the doom guys is named after the guy from Wolfenstien so the two series are connected by family.
I mean, the Links may not all a part of the same family tree, they all just share the blood of the hero, and bear the Triforce of Courage.

And, really? I didn't know that.

I had a thought since people thought Isabelle was going to be an echo people started with making text leaks that said she's an echo but instead she was a semiclone so what if shadow was instead of an echo that people keep saying and he was a semi clone instead lol

Not to mention getting other things wrong. If we believed his info on DragonBall FighterZ, we should have started getting Season 2 DLC characters by now, but we only recently are getting the last of season 1. Now, he HAS gotten things right. No one in their right mind would've just randomly guessed the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles would be DLC in Injustice 2.

Shantae would be lucky to be an assist trophy. I think she'll at least be a trophy, but not a playable character.
Shantae doesn't need luck. Watch the evidence video. There's more than enough to suggest she's either an assist trophy or a playable character.

Well at least with Samus we know what she looks like under that armor. Doomguy…..do we even have a face under that armor?
Well Classic Doomguy has a face, it's used as healthbar.
Doom 3 DoomGuy doesn't even have a helmet
Doom remake guy hasn't had his face seen properly

Which is totally fine. It's perfectly reasonable to take literally everything you see regarding the unreleased product with a grain of salt, especially in regards leakers.

I'm just saying there are a lot of gears in motion, many of which Nintendo and Sora Limited wouldn't try to fix until Post-Release analysis (5P analysis, 5 Why analysis, and Y-Gaya analysis being the most popular and time consuming among Japanese companies, and incidentally, part of my department lol), and so there are plenty of opportunities for mess ups, if they indeed occur.

Sidebar: was Simon a safe bet? I didn't really see much about him during the Ballot days, so I'm honestly not sure.

Alright then.

Maybe not at a glance, but if you think about it a little deeper, Simon wasn't a far-fetched guess at all.

As far as I have seen, Castlevania is Konami's most popular franchise, next to Metal Gear.
And I'm sure Solid Snake's return as a playable character in Smash Bros Ultimate, played a vital role in Simon's inclusion.

Especially since the same thing happened with Capcom.
First we got Megaman as the platform-classic and we later got Ryu from Street Fighter as Capcom's Flagship-character.
So Smash Bros covered Capcom's two most popular and iconic franchises, with playable characters.

Same thing with Konami now, with their two most popular franchises (Metal Gear and Castlevania) being represented with playable fighters.
Solid Snake is the most prominent Metal Gear character, like Ryu is pretty much the face of Street Fighter and Simon represents the classic, old school age, like Megaman does.

Yes, times and times again ^^
And I don't know why they would give Shantae's poses to someone esle if they decided to include her.
While it may be reaching, I'm totally on board with Zelda being used as shante's base like zero suit Samus and Ike were used for Bayonetta and Cloud respectively.

Someone might've already said this but it's possible that Zelda is being used as a base for Shantae like Ike and ZSS were used as bases for Cloud and Bayonetta respectively.

Possibly, but still, the taunts would be totally different I believe.

Oh, heh, that's nice.

Which Ghost Stories though? The anime, or the horror film? Or, something else entirely?
Just some "ghost caught on camera stuff" between two smash bros speculation videos ^^
The smashtubers seem to give so much credit to "leak representation", which I think utterly silly. Plus they all predict the same stuff overall.

I personally have seen three text leaks with Shantae as playable. One was the one that said she'd be revealed October 9th, which is basically debunked at this point. One had her and a veritable smorgasbord of other characters including KOS-MOS(from a game series so dead that they can't even get a remaster off the ground), so that one is very suspect, even if I would absolutely love it. The third was the one that also said there would be summonable Assist Trophies binded to taunts, citing a couple of the short character trailers as evidence, and has yet to be debunked, but is also very suspect. But the fact that she's been brought up so much really means she isn't as "obscure" as some of her detractors would have you believe.

Simon wasn't a safe bet but that more to do with Konami than the Castlevania series.

Specifically how it went through a period of deliberately sabotaging it's own series, like they needed the insurance money to pay off the mob or something.
As soon as Snake was back, everyone was speculating Castlevania would be the next big 3rd party series.

When did he start getting mentioned by Verge?

pfft, I wonder the guy who was operating this was thinking about.
"Huh, who is this 'Shantae' character and why is this guy posting video game stuff on here? 'Ey, boss! What should I do with it?"
"Eh, just give him that request, it shouldn't take too long. I just hope this doesn't become a recurring thing."
Why would I ask again?

Maybe Zelda's victory pose is a hint to Shantae's inclusion?
It is a possibility since we have seen even more obscure hints lead to character reveals(PacMan in the clouds in Greninja's reveal).

Oh crap, I just remembered this.

I actually had a dream about Shantae making it into Smash recently! But, since it was a dream after all, I don't remember it too well.

Now, the setting made no sense. It was like the friggin Hidden Village from Twilight Princess, and the sky (not that Sky) was really dark also. I think Mario, Meta Knight, and King K. Rool were there, a strange mishmash of characters, I know.

And the only other thing I remember was of course, Shantae appearing, swooping in on Wrench in fact. I think Bolo and Risky were also there, don't know about Rotty (:() and Sky though.
Twas strange.

Except it was, because both Solid Snake and Bomberman appeared in the game.
And I am sure they wouldn't have made it, without Konami being okay with it.

Let me quote what I said earlier:

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Simon was mentioned on Verge's very first leak, which was before the Smash Ultimate reveal at the E3 Direct. He also mentioned there that the game will feature every previous Smash character and "Everyone is Here!" will be the tagline.

Well, not really off topic, but kind of on topic, I played Smash Bros. Crusade with my Gamecube controllers and now I feel like Shantae is relatively well represented in that game. I still think the dance shouldn't be the standard special though. And I hate the Final Smash they designed for her in that game.
