That's actually a very good point. Various indies were included based on either the relationship to Nicalis (Quote, Curly, Isaac), Inti Creates/Yacht Club Games (Shovel Knight, Gunvolt) or Studio Sanzengen (Umihara Kawase and Code of Princess casts), yet Shantae is the only significant one that's conspicuously missing.
This is why I asked because there are 3 fighting games Shovel Knight is in that Shantae isn't and two of them are literally BASED off of Super Smash Bros.. Think about that fact as it was pointed out in the video I posted above.

On more thing. Shantae has been in crossovers yes but not those of a fighting type(not counting MUGEN).

Unless I'm somehow misunderstanding you, this is wrong. The entire base roster of Smash 4 + Mewtwo and Lucas got Mario Maker costumes. Yes, including the Fire Emblem characters.
You are ABSOLUTELY right. I might have missed them. I apologize. It was mad early when I wrote that and I might have missed them in my search for key points.

It was mentioned in that video earlier, but what do you guys think of the purple and yellow chairs possibly hinting at Shantae? While I agree with the couch being Skull Kid, the chairs always kinda felt like they were something else rather than Tatle and Tale. And it would not be the first time we got a hint that had multiple meaning, as the "red eyes" tweet could be seen as a hint to the song Bloody Tears and K.Rool's blood shot eye.

I mentioned this before, but I think it's silly to make far out connections with things that can mean anything or actually not mean anything.
It can be fun for speculation, but pretty much you can only say hey what if those colors are hinting at [insert character that's known for those colors].

Also, I think it does say something that Shantae wasn't in these fighting games, though I will say that I doubt she'd been in rivals of aether, because she's just too human for a game that's based on non-human characters. (Shovel knight is kind of covered up entirely, so it doesn't matter).

Hey, isn't this all for speculation? That sort of silly thing is what we live off of. As for Rivals of Aether, I feel like Shantae is still feasible, as you could easily incorporate much of animal transformation to fit in better to the cast. Also, I don't think SK should just be accepted as an exception(Shantae is less human than he is after all). He is still human under all that armor. And Shantae would have fit well with there whole elements them, as Genie's are said to have been made out of the four elements.

Not to mention that Brawlout is predominately made out of non-human characters, yet Hyper Light Drifter and Juan still made it in anyway.

I'm all for speculation, even digging into little things, but chairs... chairs?? And people use stuff like that to boost their hopes up, which they don't want to be crushed and yet they're looking at the desperate stuff rather than the surer stuff. I dunno, there's just weird stuff people do sometimes.
Maybe I'm still just venting a bit on stuff around that. But anyway, it just bothers me a bit.

I didn't know Brawlout got so many new characters, that's actually really cool, the Dead Cells character is in there too
Isn't that another one to add to the list of no shantae apperance? I'm sure they'd want her in there (and the other games) if they couldn't get into smash. know what im saying?

Well, would you just consider the chairs eccentric decoration? Unless they were put there to deliberately give people a red herring/false lead, but that's just me.

But yes, Brawlout counts in the case of Shantae no-shows, given that half of its roster is made out of indies at this point.

Also, is Dead Cells any good?

There's way too many characters that use those colors. Why would they want to leave open hints like that? If they'd put something on the chairs that would give more direction, then maybe, but why would they 'have to' mean something about characters, when they could just be colors he likes, lol.

And yes, Dead Cells is pretty decent, if you like rogue-like platformers. That means you lose a lot of stuff when you die, but you keep certain things and slowly get better. It's a bit tough too, so if you like Dark Souls too it's an easy pick. If not look at gameplay on youtube, it's interesting at least.

Maybe it's to just point us in a general direction rather than tell us exactly what it is. If Sakurai is gonna leave hints, he is gonna at least make sure that whatever he does has multiple possibilities so he does not spoil his own game. Also, people are doing this because it seems like Sakurai is actually hinting at stuff. The E3 presentation had a very wooden background, with a inexplicable metal barrel and a rope ladder. We just wrote this off as eccentric scenery, but guess who was announced last direct? Add to the whole red eyes thing and all the sudden there is a real possibility of hints.

I'd like to say If we get a character that's purple and yellow in the next direct you might be right, but since I think Shantae will be announced in that or at the nindies I don't think it matter either way XD

That or Skull Kid. And really, how many purple and yellow characters are there? I can only think of two, and that's Shantae and Rayman.

Wario-related stuff. He's the most known for those. Could be Warioware. Could be Waluigi being an AT was all a trick, could be someone that hasn't been thought of yet. Or it could be nothing. But see, it doesn't matter, because I think Shantae's got good chances and it's ok if you want to speculate too. I just wanted to voice a bit how I felt about it.

It's all good. I'm gonna change my avatar, and things will flow well, and we'll have fun with Shantae in smash. simple .. :)

And what was Shantae in once? A Warioware game. Case closed... I jest of course, but I don't think it will be any Wario related character. I admit, I entertained the idea that Waluigi was actually a character and the assist was some sort of joke, but I abandoned that when he appeared in the assist section on the official website, further cementing the idea. Also, I thought Ashley would have been the big Wario character, but that clearly got blown out of the water for a bit.

It would be nice if it does hint at Mona and/or Jimmy (see sig), seeing as Ashley is still on low priority. But Shantae is just as likely. I personally don't think it hints at Skull Kid at all (especially considering that people thinking that also include the pillows).

Also, blurred out objects are possibly hiding plain hints toward B-K, but that's a different topic.

Well I think it's all possible, but Shantae has the biggest chance in my eyes, so September and October can't come soon enough.
And you never know with Sakurai, and others haven't given up on Ashley and Waluigi. We'll just have to see.

Oh, I am still rooting for those two, I just think that base game is out of the picture. DLC on the other hand is a completely different story.
Anyway, I wonder if Sakurai has ever talked about Shantae before? I know he avoids talking about game's he likes because of Smash speculation, but it's worth taking a look.

I heard that the guy stopped tweeting about the latest games he played, due to people assuming it hinted towards somebody playable.

Yeah, that is what I said, right? And he does make exceptions now and then though. I heard he could not stop gushing about his love for Xenoblade Chronicles 2.

It does feel a bit weird that Shovel Knight was only announced for Rivals after his Smash cameo was revealed...

Side topic: If Shantae is in, I hope in addition to her music, we get some more Wayforward tunes.

Hey, maybe Patricia Wagon can be an assist trophy. I am not to familiar with the series, so I have no clue what she would do, but that could be an easy extra third party assist.

Hey, I just realized something cool. If Shantae gets in, she can fight Capcom characters, which would be a neat full circle for her, as her first game was published by Capcom. Also, it will be so cool to have some Jake Kaufman songs in the game, and he might even be able to do some remixes for some other properties!

What version of Burning Town would we get? That right there is a sadistic choice if we only get one.

After the whole Ashley thing, I refuse to ever think a character has more than a 50% chance of getting in. With that said, Shantae has so much going for her right now, and is (while not the most likely) more likely than B-K, Skull Kid (he’s not nearly at K. Rool levels in popularity), Geno (who appeared in only one game, and with Square being Square, I doubt he made the cut, because being popular only gets you so far when owned by a third party that isn’t the most reasonable, just look at cloud’s music selection), and Isaac (his franchise is actually completely dead). At this point the only things I’m considering to be even remote locks are Bandana Dee and a pokemon (I REALLY hope it’s Sceptile. He’s been the most wanted pokemon for smash for far too long, and deserves that spot more than any SM flavor of the month pokemon that gamefreak would choose, considering he is probably the longest requested pokemon for smash, being in the speculation for both brawl and smash 4)

I'm definitely banking on some bonus Wayforward content on the side, even for overlooked things like Xtreme Sports.

Exactly right. Not sure if having Kaufman would be possible though, unless he's really easy to negotiate and work with.

I am a bit the opposite actually, I see Geno and Issac as more likely than Shantae, at least with what we know now. B&K is still a bit iffy to me and Skull Kid is a bit on par with Shantae for me when it comes to chances. Does not stop Shantae from being my secound most wanted though.

If she's playable, brand new one.
If assist with bonus songs, I'm hoping Pirate's Curse, thinking Half Genie Hero.

My only problem is that people are forgetting a key thing here: Isaac wasn’t even given something as simple as a trophy in smash 4. If he’s so popular, why did he get so completely left out? It’s not like it was impossible to keep his assist, but Nintendo got rid of it anyway. That basically shows that Isaac is a dead character that Nintendo has obviously scrapped at this point, even when K. Rool who was irrelevant even longer, got a trophy AND a mii fighter outfit. Now look at him, back and better than ever in glorious HD. The Kremling Komeback is getting closer than ever, while Golden Sun is gone, not having a single asset outside of a song in smash 4. Sorry for bashing Isaac but I don’t see it happening anytime soon unless a Golden sun reboot is currently in the works.

And that was all before the ballot, which could have affected things. Relevancy is clearly not an issue as of now, and bring back a dead franchise is not something Sakurai has no experience with. With this Smash's focus on fan service picks, there are few characters who go back as far as Brawl as a popular request. And it's not like there is a shortage of people who want him, the Issac thread is about to catch up to the Ashley thread in replies and is the thread with the most followers, going well above 400.

I think that's a much better approach, since nothing is guaranteed with sakurai. And we can still cheer whatever characters we like while having ideas on who's likely. I think Geno is a bit higher than Shantae, but other than that I agree with you, except we have a (friendly?) rivalry on the grass pokemon heading to smash. I still think it'll be decidueye or another new gen pokemon.

that's kind of harsh about isaac, but I kind of agree with you, besides that this smash is real fanservice, so I think it's possible, but not as likely as some other characters.

EarlTamm EarlTamm - they didnt add anything, no mii costume or bonus things afterwards, unlike all the other characters, including geno. So it's still something to take into account. It's possible that they overlook a bit certain characters, for w/e reason.

I dont know. that tweet with Rathlos with Marth and Link looked liked a battle scene from Golden Sun and I only played that game once. It's very iconic
And the aftermath of that tweet really exposed who was a Golden Sun fan. The answer, more than you wold think.

True, I can't deny that, especially when he could have been very easy to make. I still think he has a good chance with how things have been going. By no means a guarantee, but still better than before.

Just my personal speculation for chances of getting in:
Geno - 50%
Shantae - 41%
Bandana Dee - 37%
Isaac - 25%

that's the highest ones I give, anyway
