What the heck are you thinking? Chrom is CLEARLY looking down at his buddy who has his nose stuck in a book. And you can't tell me Dr. Mario isn't listening to Game & Watch's heartbeat with his stethoscope.
Yes I can easily see daisy interacting with shantae.

One thing I noticed is that all of those interacting characters, with the sole exception(s) of Dr. Mario and Mr. Game and Watch (and King Dedede, if you count him in the Pkmn Trainer thing), the characters have some sort of connection, with Chrom and Robin being Allies in Awakening, and Pokemon Trainer and Wario being enemies from the Subspace Emmisary. Do you think Daisy might be involved in Shantae's reveal trailer if she does get in, to make the interaction make more sense?

Not sure, but Daisy and Shantae both got their starts with the Game Boy, so that might be the connection there.

Well, if you dig a little Daisy and Shantae already have a fair bit in common. They are both rather tomboyish in nature, they both come from a hot, sandy land, and Daisy made her debut on one of the first gameboy games while Shantae showed up in one of the last gameboy games.

This thread moved way too fast so I'm not going to read through all of it.

But I want to comment a bit on the recent leaks. In the event that there's only two characters left to be shown, there's also the possibility that there's a free content update being saved for shortly after release. Maybe that's where the five extra stages will be, along with a few extra characters. This wouldn't be DLC, but content they couldn't get on release and postponed for a bit.

You know, I have a question for all of you. If Shantae were to get a transformation based off each individual Nintendo series(I am not saying this would happen, this is more of a what if), what do you think she would get? And for an extra challenge, try to come up with what Pokemon she could possibly get a transformation of. There is so many to choose from just that alone.

Does that include Mario sub-series (Yoshi, DK and Warioware)?

A Koopa Troopa from Mario, an Octorok from Zelda, a Metroid from Metroid are the ones that come to mind for me.

For Zelda; Gerudo - Because almost nothing would change.
For Pokemon; I'll cheat and say Ditto so she can technically be any/all of them.

Actual answers;
Mario - Boo
Zelda - Zora
Pokemon - Medicham, Bellossom or Meloetta
Kirby - Chilly

Aside from the Pokemon which can fit a "dancer" theme these are just stuff that I think would be neat. Shantae as a snowman/woman/genie with ice powers would be cool/cute. Boo Shantae I just think would be cute. Zora is probably the laziest pick as it would just be Mermaid with legs and I only chose it because I like the way the Zora are designed.

Hmm... that's quite an interesting set of speculation and fanficism. There are at least four transformations that I think she could do.
1. Plumber Transformation. Her hair manifests into a "hat" and she dons a pair of overalls and some boots. She can passively stomp on non-spiky opponents and use the fireball power natively.
2. Pokemon Transformation. I could see her transforming into something more "fairy-like", maybe a Clefairy? Her main ability would be Metronome, which will randomly manifest into any move that Shantae knows normally, perhaps utilizing her native magical abilities.
3. Robot Transformation. She turns into a ROB, looking similar to the Subspace Emissary ROBs. She has their most basic moves, but can also equip rocket launchers.
4. "Fairy" Transformation. This transformation is a joke transformation. She turns into Tingle, but looking at her new form, she's so embarrassed she instantly turns back to her normal form.

Well, the easiest pokemon for Shantae to turn into would be a Medicham as it is also based on a Belly Dancer. However she could just have pokemon versions of her animal transformations. Aipom instead of a monkey, Donphan instead of the elephant (my favorite ground type btw) Ariados instead of a spider... Harpy is the hardest to replace tho, possibly Staraptor as it is based off of the Harpy eagel...

So, I've been gone for a bit, time to give a summarized two cents.

I could see Incineroar happening, but I personally hope not. Not only do we already have a fully evolved fire starter already, but the roster of Smash is loaded with fire based fighters and other fighters with one or two fire based moves. With that, basically any other type would be better representation than another fire type.

So, grass would be the best option (being the least represented of the three main pokemon types) as outside of Ivysaur, the only other plant based moves/fighters are pikmin, villager's tree, and Lucas' stick. So Decidueye would be great, but I sadly don't think he will happen. One element wise he is already pretty similar to pit being archer based with wings. Second, I think his inclusion in Pokken might have hurt his chances. Sakurai seems like a proud man and i think when he sees someone else give a character a fighting moveset it makes him less interested in the character. Ryu being an exception as he was made for fighting games and the challenge became how to change him to fit a different type of fighting game.

So, even tho Incineroar is likely, I think the best remaining rep for gen 7 would be Zeraora. As the final pokemon of Gen 7 it is currently the most relevant promotion wise and the majority of the pokemon picked for Smash were picked for their relevancy more than anything: Mewtwo the biggest legend at the time with the most game lore, Lucario coming off the popularity of his movie. Plus with Zeraora we would have a third electric based fighter, the first two being a mouse and it's baby brother. Outside of the mice there are only a handful of electric based moves in the entire game so one more electric based fighter would provide more diversity than another fire or even another water based moveset (not as needed as more plants, but oh well)

Really, the only time Smash took a wild stab was with Greninja and they got very lucky that time as most fans agreed that he was the winner of gen 6 starters. The main difference there tho was that Greninja was added to Smash early in gen 6, as his star was rising. And honestly i wouldn't be surprised if the inclusion in Smash was one of the things that rocketed his popularity as high as it got. Incineroar doesn't have that benefit. Where Greninja was included in the spring of gen 6's life, Ultimate is happening as close to the Winter of Gen 7 as possible, gen 7 is on it's last legs and it shows. So Zeraora would be more of a send off for the generation and it's inclusion would be far more neutral. If Zeraora got in i'm sure some would be disappointed, but i don;t think anyone would really be mad. if Incineroar gets in some of his fans would be thrilled, but i think the rest would not be very pleased at all and some would be rather upset.

As fire starters are usually very popular with their die hard fan base, Incineroar is one of the most polarizing since Emboar.

Second, Incineroar may be the most popular in Japan, but even there it;s not the near unanimous acceptance that Greninja received. And outside of Japan he is even more polarizing
I thought samurott was def. more popular than Emboar, but maybe that’s just me. Also, since when is Incineroar the most popular in Japan? This is news to me. Also you’re right that most would be disappointed if Incineroar was all we got. No matter what we get, there will be some outlash. There is a handful though, that wouldn’t cause too much of it: Zeroara, Decidueye, Sceptile (I know some abandoned him FOR Decidueye, but I doubt anyone would be angry if he was in), Gengar, Lycanroc (this is the one I’ve seen the least bandwagon support for, he usually gets real support). Those are all I think no one would frown at. Also why does no one think about or even mention Tapu Koko? He could happen too. Forgot to add, but being in pokken doesn’t necessarily have to be against him. It just gives him movesets to work with for those pokemon. In fact the roster for pokken is arguably exclusively popular Pokémon, all of which outside of Sceptile and Decidueye (and Gengar + Machamp?)have had some form of mention in smash before. I think one of those 4 will be chosen for the roster.

Mario: Koopa Troopa (Can hide into her shell and roll around, just like Shell Mario from NSMB1)
Donkey Kong: Kritter (Can use the spin attack from Smash Run [And access Kremling-Exclusice areas?)
Zelda: Wolf (Same abilities as in Twilight Princess) or any one of the MM transformations (also with the same abilities)
Metroid: Metroid (Can float around and siphon HP from enemies)
Yoshi: Yoshi (Can eat enemies and flutter jump, just like the real deal)
Kirby: Parasol Waddle Dee (Is cute and has access to the Parasol ability, allowing her to fall down some otherwise death pits safely)
Star Fox: Arwing (Can fly around and shoot enemies, but can't stop until she returns to normal)
Earthbound: Mr. Saturn (A joke transformation)
F-Zero: Vehicle (Can move super fast, but is hard to control)
Ice Climber: Polar Bear (Can jump, which causes a shockwave upon landing, and can destroy some blocks on the ground that not even her Elephant form can)
Fire Emblem: Dragon/Manakete (Can fly around and breathe fire)
Game and Watch: Chef (Can cook meals to make people let her through)
Kid Icarus: Clubberskull (Cannot move until an enemy attacks her. If attacked, runs around and destroys everything)
Warioware: 5-Volt (Also voice acted by Cristina Vee. Can look around for enemies at night and scare them, killing them. During the Day, is a good mother :p)
Metal Gear Solid: Metal Gear (Picture her Sophia transformation, but it's a Metal Gear)
Sonic: Hedgehog (Can run super fast)
Pikmin: Pikmin (Can latch onto enemies and access small holes as an alternative to Mouse)
R.O.B.: R.O.B. Sentry (Acts like a combination of the R.O.B. enemies in SSE)
Animal Crossing: Monkey Villager (Is a good member of the community)
Mega Man: Mettaur (Can hide under helmet and lay undetected by enemies and immune from them)
Wii Fit: Balance Board (...I have no idea.)
Punch-Out!!: Boxer (Has powerful punches, but telegraphs them, like a Punch-Out opponent)
Mii: Ghost [Find Mii] (Can float around and turn invisible)
Pac-Man: PAC (Can wacka wacka wacka around and eat ghosts)
Xenoblade: Nopon (Can act as a Blade to allies, making them more powerful)
Duck Hunt: Zapper (Can fire at enemies anywhere on the screen)
Final Fantasy: Chocobo (Can move just like a Chocobo)
Bayonetta: Angel (Can fly around and shoot arrows, like Cupid Kirby. WARNING: Is also a target of Umbra Witches!)
Splatoon: Inkling (Can use Splattershot to claim turf and turn into a squid, allowing her to climb walls)
Castlevania: Vampire (Can use some of Dracula's powers, and also suck blood from enemies. WARNING: Is also a target of the Belmont Clan!)

Bonus: Shantae: Tinkerbat (See HGH)

And last but not least:

Pokemon: Arbok (Can coil herself around enemies and constrict (and/or poison) them. Why Arbok? Because a snake (cobra to be exact) would fit perfectly with the other transformations. How hasn't there been a snake transformation already tho?)

Just to challenge myself, I decided I would go all in on my own question. And let me tell you, there was many I could not come up with a transformation for. But instead of giving just a “Idk” answer, I came up with costumes for those series as if they were like the modes in HGH. Though, I mght have gone a bit costume happy(It's a fun concept in itself) and there are still some series were I could still not find an answer, even after I though about costumes. But hey, I tried.

Super Mario: A Koopa Troopa
Donkey Kong: A Kremling
The Legend of Zelda: A Zora
Metroid: A Metroid
Yoshi: Poochy
Kirby: A Waddle Dee
Star Fox: I do not have a transformation, but I think Shantae would don Star Fox based costume either based off Fox or Krystal.
Pokemon: Honestly, give her a Pokemon trainer costume and have her attacks be her sending out her team of Pokemon. That just seems fun.
Earthbound: Mr. Saturn
F-Zero: No transformation, but I would love to see Shantae don te Captain Falcon get up and try to master the art of being Captain Falcon.
Ice Climbers: A polar bear
Game & Watch: Umm… Game & Watch Shantae?
Kid Icarus: Eggplant Wizard
Warioware: for a costume, how about Ashley. With this outfit, she can go on the more witchy side of the magic spectrum.
Metal Gear: Just let her go full Solid Snake suit on this. All her codecs would just be her friends would fill the role of Metal Gear characters, and she would totally have a cardboard box.
Sonic the Hedgehog: I am honestly not sure to answer this one.
Pimin: Bulborb
R.O.B.: I also have no clue how to answer this one.
Animal Crossing: Some animal from the series. No clue which it would be though.
Mega Man: She would don a Mega Man costume, mega buster and all.
Wii Fit: Shantae in a gym uniform
Punch Out: Shantae in a boxing uniform
Mii: A Mii version of herself???
Pac-Man: A purple ghost
Xenoblade:Have her don a Rex uniform and summon blades.
Duck Hunt: A duck
Street Fighter: She become a shoto clone.
Final Fantasy 7: Have her go bare knuckle and wear the tifa outfit
Bayonette: An angel
Splatoon: An Inkling
Castlevania: She dons the outfit of a Belmont, whip and all.

Have her dress up as Bolo for Castlevania. He basically already fights like a Belmont.

Ok so I know literally nothing about Shantae or her games. I know she's been in 4 games that have been pretty well-received. I know she's an indie character. I also know that she's a top contender in speculation and was a big pick (presumably) on the ballot. That's it.

I don't know her powers, how her games play, what evidence exists in her favor, or anything else. She is the highest speculated newcomer that I know the least about.

So what's the scoop on this character? How does she fight? What abilities or quirks could be taken canonically from her game? What licensing issues would she face? Does she qualify as a Nintendo character? Why her over Shovel Knight? Most importantly, should I support her? And while I know you'll all say yes, I mainly mean that I want to be won over.

EarlTamm EarlTamm So in your Castlevania scenario, would she then whip twice, once with her hair and once with a whip?
You know what, I did not even realize these things. I am disapointed in myself.

Also, I forgot Fire emblem. She would wear a dancer outfit from the series and dance to buff her base form rather than to transform.

Am I the only one wondering why there hasn’t been a blog post today yet?
There was. It's only out in Japan tho. I've been unable to get the number. I'll update you when I get it.

Edit: It's only on Twitter right now and it's Isabelle's video and memory.

Btw, I decided to see if people have made fan art of possible Shantae crossover costumes, and it turns out I was not alone when it came to the Belmont Shantae idea.

Your guess is as good as mine
Her design could very possibly need changing to fit Smash's ratings. I mean, her top is tiny. Simply giving her a top like ZSS' alt or something like Primrose from Octopath Traveler would easily work. Didn't Matt even say he'd definitely be down to give her a more kid-friendly redesign too?

Honestly, I'm all for the design change. I love Shantae but the skimpy outfit and breast bounce in the sprites has always bothered me.

Regarding Shantae's outfit, I don't think there needs to be any major changes made to it. Besides, the Krystal assist is wearing her Adventures outfit, Shantae should be a-ok.

I'm wondering, too. You'd think there'd be a "Fighter of the Day" for Isabelle... Maybe it's just late for some reason.

I'll probably get :ultgreninja:'d, but I'll try to go on this as a quick run down. Shantae is a half genie who fights evil by whipping enemies with her hair, belly-dancing to transform into various forms to traverse the world/solve puzzles/deal with certain enemies, and can use various items and spells she can earn or purchase. She would likely not face very many licensing issues as WayForward was very vocal about wanting her in Smash Bros. back during the Smash 4 ballot. All three of her first games were released originally on Nintendo platforms(and the first one is only available through the 3DS eShop), though the fourth released on multiple platforms simultaneously, likely due to being crowdfunded. She has a much longer history with Nintendo than almost any other Indie character, even appearing on the cover of Nintendo Power magazine. She exudes charm and quirkiness that is very similar to many Nintendo characters. Hopefully this is helpful!

And Decidueye is # 1 here. But let’s just say that Primarina isn’t exactly easy to put in smash (no legs, and isn’t known for being agile on land). That’s why the four I mentioned earlier are the main picks that could end up being playable. Also I hope Blastoise makes his spectacular pokeball return like Scizor did, but that might just be me.

Sceptile would be welcome by most, and probably is the one pokemon that had a major presence on the ballot, but I do think it's time is kind of past for now. I'd like it but i'm not sure how likely it would be. As for Gengar, another great pokemon but the Gen 1 representation is already too big. Honestly the only Gen 1 pokemon I think would be justifiable additions would be either Eevee because of it's newfound relevancy and current counter-part status to Pikachu or Meowth as an antagonist/villain to pikachu (I remember thinking Meowth was super likely for 4 because it's brawl model had tons of different facial expressions that never were used making me think Sakurai had originally had higher plans for the guy)

And i would love Lycanroc (as long as its midday or Dusk) as it is my favorite rock type, the only reason i didn't mention it is because my argument was about why i don;t think Incineroar is likely and the main reason people say it is likely is because of Vergeben who also said lycanroc was out. Not saying i believe vergeben, just saying for that argument lycanroc wasn't relevant.

Honestly i really wouldn't be surprised if we don't get a new pokemon rep this time around. People point out that every smash game does, but every smash game so far also has skipped the odd numbered generations. Not saying that is intentional, just using it as an example that patterns don't always mean something.

As for the idea of censorship regarding Shantae's outfit. One thing we have to remember is that out of all the "sexy" women in Smash that have caused issues (Bayo, ZSS, Tharja) Shantae's design is far more cartoony. When it comes to ratings and censorship that can give you a lot of wiggle room. Look at Disney never having much of an issue about Ariel in her clam bra or Jasmine in her period appropriate attire. After all, so far all of Shantae's outfit's have been rated E10 in all of her games, which somehow even included the slave Leia inspired number.

If she got to Smash I do think part of the redesign would include making her outfit tad more modest (full cups for her top rather than the 2/3 number she has and a less plunging belt line) but beyond that I don't think they would need to change much at all.

Squirtle's run in Ultimate is basically what Primarina could do for moving about.

Honestly, I think the Jasmine comparison might add an extra helping hand to Shantae. Shantae's design is culturally accurate(At least I think it is), so there might be a bit gray area when it comes to censoring it. And as you say, it helps that Shantae is a bit more on the cartooney side.
