This place is giving me grief because I'm constantly worrying about whether you people dislike me or not, and if this place will ever be as good as it was previously, but this is one of the only places where I feel comfortable discussing anything, and if I leave I don't know where else I'll go.

I wish I could say something that would end your insecurity about these things, but you just have to accept that we like you, and deal with it.
If it feels hectic sometimes, that's normal. Things change, and actually things are settling, so I don't think there's anything to worry about. We can talk about your worries more if you want, though I think it's better to continue in pms.

What about a new Zelda? Either with the classic top-down style of the older games, or one which reuses the engine from Breath of the Wild, and improves upon it, similar to Super Mario Galaxy 2.

I don't know. They made Majora's Mask in only one year, and that game is great, even though it reuses so many assests from Ocarina. There could always be a 2D Zelda game, I thought that the development teams for 2D and 3D Zelda were both separate entities.

I'll be honest though:
The only clear hint we have, is the radio silence of WayForward and them ignoring everything Smash related.
As well as Shantae's odd absence from indie-fighting games, while she is part of every other indie-crossover that is not a fighting game.
So the assumption of NDA and NCC actually makes sense in that context. Not confimed, but plausible.

Everything else is reaching.
Shantae still has more hints and clues in her favour than lots of other popular picks.

We could argue the Jammies mode stuff is a hint but in the end that also ties back to our strongest evidence: Wayforward and Matt Bozon, and their out of character behavior regarding Smash being brought up. Talk about anything else Shantae related and most likely they will reply to you like the awesome fan loving peeps they are. But as soon as you bring up Smash, the conversation just dies, like it was figuratively taken out by a ninja trying to keep them quiet about the whole thing

Longer than average post from me incoming, apologies for any inconsistency or incoherence ^^;

Personally, the only ways this can all end are:

1- Shantae is in, the whole reason for being mum's the word on Smash was because of legal reasons and not wanting to spoil the surprise. Shantae is playable. Either in the base game or as DLC (if we get to launch without a reveal and WF and Matt are *still* quiet, this will be why) This is the best case scenario.

2 - Shantae is in, but as an assist trophy/regular trophy/sticker/some other inclusion. While not ideal, this is still better than outright being ignored. The dream is for her to be playable, and while it would sting for awhile, this would still be a massive leap in recognition for her franchise.

3 - (And I've seen this mentioned before) She's not in, and Wayforward and Matt are just being quiet out of shame, or wanting to avoid having "the I'm sorry talk" with their fans, and/or they want to keep speculation going because it's good for business for people to keep talking. This I find the most unlikely because well, it ranges from out of character to just scummy behavior at the worst case scenario. WF, and especially Matt Bozon, have never stuck me as the type that would string their fanbase along. Also I very much see that backfiring because unlike a massive company like EA, which can (and routinely does) piss off it's fans and abuse their trust without hurting their bottom line, I sincerely believe WF cannot afford to do that because indie companies (whether you consider them indie or not doesn't matter, WF is very much a smaller company that relies on it's fans, or crowdfunding things like Half Genie Hero would be completely unnecessary) live and die off their fanbase. That goodwill is not something to take lightly.

I won't lie, sometimes I feel bad about my experience on smashboards, but I know this is a gaming forum, and I can't expect too much from it. When I'm more leveled, I can enjoy it for what it is and get more into it and not fret too much about what I feel missing sometimes. I know that it's mostly my own feelings when I take things a certain way, and we're all just travelers here who have some things we like in common.

Yep! Shadow's quite right, I'd say! Though we don't have the best information pool we can take in, it's gonna be safe to say that Shantae's in the at some capacity. Speaking of NDAs, I think we could safely presume that Microsoft didn't get an NDA for Banjo-Kazooie unless it was for a possible DLC slot, with a tweet from Phil Spencer replying to a BK fan happening around March 20th, 2018. Then again, said reply was a blunt "Yes" to a "Are you still willing to let Banjo and Kazooie appear in smash bros?", so it may or may not break NDAs.

The earliest I could see Nintendo releasing another 3D Zelda is around 2020, and at the latest 2026. I'd say they could have another 2D Zelda, or a spin-off, ready by the latter half of 2019. Good things do take time, Breath of the Wild really benefited from the time that it got, however I don't think they will be as ambitious as they were with Breath this time around, so I could see another 3D Zelda releasing sometime in the early to mid 2020s.

Back to Shantae; I really think she still has her chances more than ever, although her competition is tough.
But we will clearly get a few more newcomers in the base game as well as the DLCs.
I just fear, more "fresh" competition will be added to the mix when it comes to DLCs ( gen 7 pokemon, Rex&Pyra who I love too, Springman ect ). This is why we need to stand still and show we are here !

Well Pokemon Bank certainly has a grace period for renewal so I don't think Nintendo will do any worse. They could do so much better but one step at a time.

I want to mention something here, about NDAs and NCCs.. To explain a bit about the depth of business negotiation tactics.
What I mean is that when you can't afford to be demanding, you're not going to put lots of conditions and clauses, or else you risk losing the deal. When you have the advantage though, that's another situation, and you can get away with your usual norms or more. Nintendo is at the advantage when it comes to WF, so of course Nintendo would get everything they can. Some companies might even be spared from a strict NDA.

What I want to say is that it's not a rule that you can take everywhere, businesses adapt and try to get what they can, and negotiate. I don't picture WF trying to push it, they just would want Shantae in regardless.

I was confused by seeing 2020 there, but I forget we're already in 2018 it feels weird talking about dates like that.

I actually don't know too much about the GBA game, but it was going to be the sequel to the GBC Shantae game, the reason why it didn't get a sequel was because Capcom opted out to publishing it, due to the GBC game not selling well. It would've had an Earth-moving mechanic, I think? Which eventually became the "background-foreground" mechanic in Risky's Revenge.
