Something she's not? She's had full blown monologues in games and we've always been rewarded with a sexy showing of Samus.
She has never had a voice actor for anything other than "UGH!". That was my point. Obviously she speaks, she just has never had a voice actor in 10 games, not sure why we needed to start here.

Samus is a woman. Women have breasts. Samus is an extremely fit woman. Fit women have nice looking butts and bodies. Skin tight suits make logical sense in her case. Did I mention she was a woman?

Get over it.
You're acting as if she's a real person and as if they just can't help it because they're putting Samus in.

I'm not complaining because of how Zamus looks, I'm complaining that they needed to add her into the game period. All she is is sex appeal, and since when does that junk belong in video games?

Seeing the one screenshot in the game is different from having a PLAYABLE CHARACTER. Metroid got the shaft, and for a sex appeal character. I'm extremely offended by that.

This is pointless its a video game character she has no real rights and those boobs are digitally rendered get over it people she's not real.

You know...I swear they didn't need to put that little tailhole-looking texture between Bowser's legs...you all know the one I'm talking about.

What IS that? It could even be a mangina! But it doesn't need to be there.

Also, Snake's up tilt scared me when I paused the game.

EDIT: oh dear, here come all the "it's a videogame character lulz it doesn't matter hurr hurr" people. I've seen this sort of thing happen many times at Gamefaqs and it never amounts to anything good.

Yeah, they did turn Samus into a sex object. :/ Really, that's the ONLY reason they put her in the game. Dark Samus would have been a far better character choice.

Ugh...

First of all, yes, she is just a video game character and has no rights, but does that mean we should start making games where you just get to **** her? Huh? By that argument, you can go to the extremes saying you can do this thing or that thing.

This isn't about HER rights, it's about real women's rights, at least for me. I don't care to see one of my favorite video game characters paraded about in a tight suit as sex appeal, I think it degrades the franchise, but it all comes down to real women's rights. This is just an example of the disrespect for women society today has, and the fact that it's just being put in every type of media now.

Peach's ******* are a cute size. I like them.

Peach is also by far the most bootylicious character in Brawl.
When it comes to Peach, I try to avoid angles where her **** is visible. Of course, I have no issues if her shoes are visible; the shoes make her more attractive.

Wait, Samus was playable without armor in the very first Metroid already and you didn't actually need the Justin Bailey code, many stuff worked. So Brawl didn't turn her into a sex object, she always was. But hey, what's wrong with that, it's not nearly as bad as Lara Croft.

8-Bit Samus =/= sex appeal

3D Samus = sex appeal

True, it's not as bad as Lara Croft, but I still resent it.

It wasn't called sex appeal back then because we didn't use that term for games. But seriously, seeing her in a sexy suit has always been the reward for finishing a metroid game under 3 hours.

The first one didn't have fingers either so.. yeah. And still, in Metroid 2:

Compared to the rest of her body they are pretty big, or at least they are supposed to stand out. She is supposed to represent a good looking girl, in bathing suit. With decent boobs, at least a handful.

I dunno guys, I think the source picture I used for my new signature says it all. Brawl + lesbianism = win!

Wow... I don't care that Samus is pretty much nude. The only thing is her body looks JUST like my teacher's (who is smoking hot!). Other then that I'm ok. :dizzy:

No, it wasn't sex appeal because 8-bit graphics aren't realistic at all. If anyone actually thought that the 8-bit sprite of JUSTIN BAILEY Samus was hot...well, you're even weirder than those who think that a 3D Samus is hot.

Maybe I'm getting it wrong, but I always thought that the reason you got Samus either taking off her helmet or taking off her suit entirely was, in the original, to show you that she's a woman. Then in the sequels, I thought it was just a way of keeping with tradition.

In any case, seeing a picture for 5 seconds isn't the same as having a playable character with the option to move them how you want and look at them from any angle.

Have you actually paid that much attention to your teacher's body?

When the SNES came out you thought, "Ouh, those are sum ****in nice graphics there!" because NES-Games looked pretty bad in contrast...

_____

It is men that make porn one of the biggest industries in the world. It is men that peel of pretty girls closes in their minds while jacking off.

And in here it is mostly (if not only) men that discuss about the rights of women because they say it is extremely offending that there is a sexy women where there hadn't been one before.

Does it give you bad conscience that you watch and like pron? But you like pron too much to talk about female rights on youporn and have to calm down yourselfs at some stuff that isn't that important to you (I mean, Smashbros has plenty of other characters.)?!

Or you don't jack off at all?

I can't think of other reasons for this debate.

Sex is a part of our lives that is always there when we interfere with a women that has somehow the same age we have. When a man looks at a women he rates her and off course this works the other way round. This works for drawn people as well. I found myself thinking, that Samus looked nice when she took her helmet of in my 99% finish of Metroid Prime 1. And when my girlfriend says how ugly some Heavy from Team Fortress 2 in her opinion is, I have the proof that it is exactly the same with girls.

So why the **** shouldn't we have any real sexappeal in Smash? A beautiful lady in a tight suit shouldn't be offending to anyone in our days. I mean had anyone of you been to a public swimming pool lately? There are half naked women all around and they want to be like this. But there are not only women, there are men that are not wearing more too.

I mean, what sort of perverted sense of sexuality does someone have who thinks that it is against female rights that a fictive women that wears a powersuit and pwnz absolutely everything could look and walk around like one of those girls one always sees in the summer?

Yaah, in smash one can make perverted poses and shoot pictures of it without any interventions from outside. But where is the problem? Is it that Zamus shouldn't be allowed to make kicks like Lucario and Falco because she is portraited as something that has a ****** under her closes?
I say it again: When there is something looking sexy people will find it attractive and make whatever they want with it in their minds. - But that doesn't happen in Smash. In smash there is a sexy women that wears sexy closes under her powersuit and when that suit peels off one can see that sexy women. And when that women moves one can have a look at interesting spots. But if one doesn't get horny by seeing it, he can juuust click them away.
That is it. Nothing one cannot see when going outside in the right time of the year.
Go to a public beach! You will see more than Zamus will ever give you.

So where is the point? There is no point. There is absolutely anything but an attractive looking women. A no go?

And like I said before. Samus had always been some kind of sexy and since SSBB she isn't anymore.

AND Peach is much more important in that context. She resembles the stupid princess dream that Hollywood builds up all the time and simply fits on every cliché. Why don't we discuss about her as much as about Zamus? I mean one even sees her panties... - Because Peach isn't that sexy...

And so on and so on.

m0rdin:

I'm not sure what you're saying with the first thing...but yeah, I actually think the SNES graphics are really nice, and not just compared to NES either. 2D games for the win.

It is entirely possible that some of the men on these forums don't watch that crap...(me being one, at least) I'm not trying to act like a saint, just saying that to assume that all men are like that is untrue.

Secondly, as someone who grew up with two sisters, I actually do care for women's rights. I mean, you would not believe how many times in my life I've heard "Men are pigs/pond scum/some other sort of insult" or, after some guy was a jerk to my sisters, "Don't you EVER do this to a girl!"

So my problem with this sort of stuff is because it's this (and the women that choose to be depicted nude in either videos or pictures) that makes men believe that this sort of stuff is okay. If porn weren't readily available to download on your computer or buy from an adult video store, do you think so many men would be buying/downloading it? And this probably won't end here; eventually we'll have JUSTIN BAILEY Samus available to play as in 3D.

I am incredibly offended by the way a lot of medias are now using attractive women to draw people in. I find it crude. My problem with this is that video games are now starting to stoop to that level. I don't want that in video games, I want the same thing we've had for a while.

The reason there's no problem with Peach or Zelda is because they aren't sex appeal, You don't see their panties if you pick up the character, you have to pause and manipulate the camer to see that. There is no time that you can see them from a frontal view.

Sakurai didn't create Zero Suit Samus, I really hope there isn't anyone ignorant enough to hate him for it. It would be funny since that person obviously doesn't follow the series enough to be a real fan.

Personally, I'm not a fan of the character change, but I don't really care either because there is more to be sexualized than wearing a skin-tight suit. There's porn of everything, there's not much you can do about it.
Sakurai probably made the decision to put her in the game as a playable character, though.

I have to say the other bit is sadly true, though.

I'm not saying she looks hot, I'm just saying that her boob size was pretty much decided back then and it doesn't seem that different to me at all. It might be to show she was a woman, but I think it's both. As in, in the end they give you a pretty lady instead of some big mussle guy, or well, they get as close to a good looking woman as they could.

Of course seeing the picture is not the same, but that's hardly an argument, you can look at Pikachu from every angle as well, certain people just seem to find it more intresting to do with this particular character, which says more about them than about the game. On a side note, you could actually play as her without armor but that's not really important now.

Anyway, since the very first Metroid game, Samus was supposed to be a hot chick. No matter how much they failed to turn people on with the 5 second picture, the character is still the same if it does a better job now, because she is 3D.

So my point is; Samus her sex appeal was not made up for Brawl, it was just following the course set by Metroid series, w/e reason that series might have had for it.

reading this thread, I'm curious as to how those offended would choose to represent Samus without the suit. from a purely practical perspective, it's hard to imagine anything under that armor other than a body suit. she's a unique and powerful character, and there are already females in the game completely designed the opposite of what you accuse Sakurai of. I just don't get it - we get a totally new metroid rep, she plays well, is a wonderful counter to armor Samus' playstyle, and you get pissed off because she's attractive, and Samus has always been attractive. That's part of what made Metroid an interesting series, she's a tough-as-nails bounty hunter, but she seems like she should be spending more time shopping. You people don't even know what you want.

But if Samus isn't hot, how is she sex appeal? I mean, forgetting the fact that she's pixels, wouldn't she have to be considered hot to an extent to be sex appeal?

Of course seeing the picture is not the same, but that's hardly an argument, you can look at Pikachu from every angle as well, certain people just seem to find it more intresting to do with this particular character, which says more about them than about the game. There's nothing to "see" with Pikachu. Not that there's really a whole lot to see with Peach or Zelda either, but my point is that Zero Suit Samus has a tight outfit and you can see that without effort.

Anyway, since the very first Metroid game, Samus was supposed to be a hot chick. No matter how much they failed to turn people on with the 5 second picture, the character is still the same if it does a better job now, because she is 3D.
Well obviously, they're not going to make a video game heroine fat and ugly. My point isn't that Samus is good looking, it's the fact that Zero Suit Samus didn't need to be added into Brawl, has had all of 40 minutes of fame (30 in Zero Mission, 10 minutes of ending sequences/pictures), yet was added to Brawl. Clearly she was added into Brawl for sex appeal.

So my point is; Samus her sex appeal was not made up for Brawl, it was just following the course set by Metroid series, w/e reason that series might have had for it.
I completely agree. It wasn't made up for Brawl, it just didn't need to make an appearance in Brawl, that's my point.

No, actually, you don't know what we want...

I'm not saying there's something wrong with what's beneath the suit. That would be like saying I'm offended by all people because below every article of clothing, they are nude. That makes absolutely no sense at all.

What we're upset about is the inclusion of Zero Suit Samus, considering that she has been playable once, for a half an hour of Zero Mission. She doesn't belong there, and she was only added as sex appeal. Either that or because Sakurai enjoys laughing at the Metroid fans for not getting another rep.

To call Zamus totally new is a lie...she's a part of Samus. Not only is she not a separate character, but she's not a desirable character. Did anyone want her? Yes, she plays well, but someone like Ridley (don't care what you say Sakurai, if you included Bowser and Olimar you can include him too, you just don't want to) or Dark Samus, even a hunter from MPH or MP3...they would've been a much better rep.

Zamus does not belong and she's only there for sex appeal; why would we be happy about that?

I don't really see the problem with Zamus.

I don't get offended if there are attractive males in games, so fail to see why females should if there are attractive females.

I think Zamus was added because of Samus's Final Smash. Without the giant beam thing, (I forget the name) what could she have? Ice Missiles? Help from other hunters? Maybe, but Samus is a ranged character and IMO should have a large ranged final smash. What happens to most things when you use them to their full potential and further? They tend to break or stop working, and that's what happens with Samus's suit.

How come only men are getting bent out of shape? Samus is less sexualized in Brawl than in her own games. A full on body suit is nothing compared to her bikinis and leotards. Zamus's addition is so that there's more than 1 relevant playable character (because she more or less is, even if she's still Samus) besides Ridley who obviously was better suited to be a boss. She was added probably more for the "only 1 Metroid character" complaints, not to rile up players with her ****. The only people with problems seem to be confused young boys who don't want to be distracted or ignorant Samus fanboys who don't know the first thing about Samus.

At least you can't upskirt Samus for detailed undergarments (Peach) or find some cleavage in every freeze-frame (Zelda). Like some one said, if they wanted Samus to be hugely sexualized they probably would've made her do more sexual poses and have her breasts bounce into her chin whenever shtakes a step. This is pretty much like the whole Sheik debate, where no one wants to hear proof that they've been unknowingly playing as a female the entire time.

In other words...she was WAY sexier than Melee.
Not that thats an accomplishment lol.

And where does the nerve to complain about the "sexualization" come from anyway. ZSS shows that women can and will kick *** (seeing as she is a very good Brawl character for anything other than laggy online).

And would you want her to not be attractive? I thought women liked being told they were beautiful... Can't you be consistent? :ohwell:

And I know its a common argument, but why complain at Brawl... all games with female characters do it (just look at Fire Emblem :bee:).

... Why is this still being debated? Zero Suit Samus is in the game. Stop arguing about it and deal with it. If you're that offended by Zero Suit Samus, then don't play Brawl, because you'll come across a Zero Suit Samus eventually.

Evidentially, no one is allowed to get angry or voice their opinion negatively about Brawl. Otherwise, you get attacked for not progressing the game, whining, or being a pain.

If you're that offended by people who have problems with the game, then don't come here, because you'll come across a few eventually.

This is the suit she wears at the end of the Metroid Prime games, and she's always been shown wearing very little in the Metroid games. If you're going to go after them for her appearance in Brawl, you might as well take the whole Franchise into the bargain.

To add to that, you might as well get mad about Harrison Ford taking off his shirt in the Indiana Jones films. Hero characters are more often than not sexy, and their sexuality will often be abused for the sake of entertainment.

I always looked at it this way: She has to wear something under the armor, and if the armor coming off is to be an element of the game, well then by gum she'll have to wear a slinky outfit for a while. I'm not going to complain.
