Self Checkout Lane or Cashier?

I can't explain why, but for some reason the self checkout lane used to and still kinda is intimidating especially when the following happens:

A: I have a little over 12 grocery items.
B: There are a handful of people behind me, so I feel as though I have to bag in haste. Psh...
C: When I'm through ringing up my stuff, but failed to put my check/debit/credit card in my wallet. X_X

So yeah, I prefer the cashier hands down.

---------------------------
Also, one more thing. If you have a bad feeling in your gut that the self checkout machine is going to malfunction and give you a hard time, then don't use it even if the cashier lanes are backed up. It'll save you alot of stress and alot of headache.

There's also the possibility of you forgetting your change, though it seems odd that someone could do that. It happens though, as I found $11 once.

The Cashiers at my grocery are mostly rude teenagers who think the job is beneath them. The machine seems content however....

depends on the moment. sometimes i like the social get together of the line. other days i feel like being fast and shooting through the self check out. but both work for me

Self check-out is the best. It makes buying some of the more personal items a whole lot easier. I'd never bought a box of johnnies until I realised I could purchase them without the judgement (real or imagined) of a cashier.

They're mad easy to use, too.

The Self check-out lanes, I mean...

Self-Checkout for small quantities of purchases.

Well, I would say Cashier for large quantities, but I've never really had to buy a large quantity of stuff.

Self Checkout most of the time, but sometimes there are HUGE lines, so then i go to cashier since they can sometimes go faster.

Self checkout FTW.

Quicker, easier, no pimply-faced rudeness to deal with.

However, if you're buying beer or whatnot, it is annoying to have to show your I.D. to the attendant, but that's a small price to pay compared to waiting behind some old lady with 10,000 coupons...

Self Checkout..... for small amounts of stuff, like everyone else said.

Or whichever line is shorter, lol. My main objective is always to get done as quickly as possible.

I just go to the shortest line I see. I never have to buy a lot of stuff so it doesn't matter which I go to.

I've never seen a self-checkout here in Brooklyn :(
I always feel oddly panic when I deal with cashiers. *envies y'all*

Don't have self-checkouts in these here Florida boonies. Just old women with parkinsons, who can't seem to scan the label no matter how big.

I prefer to take the cashier route because I hate how robots have taken over the workforce. I also like to enteract with people. Most of them time though I end up using self checkout because the cashier lines are too long with grandma's that have their carts completely full of stuff. Not only that but out of 32 checkout lines only 6-8 are generally open in a store. The self-checkouts at my local grocery store are never crowded and generally there is no wait at all for these. Much easier to go in and out than wait 10-15 minutes.

Self-checkout. I don't usually have that many groceries, and buying your intimate things is less embarrassing. As Blazey said.

Also, it really bothers me when you can't buy that stuff at the pharmacy counter. Do I want everyone in the world to know that I'm buying condoms and feminine products? Not really. Does the pharmacy assistant have to be a complete douche about it? Apparently. :ohwell:

I use self-checkouts mostly. Let's face it, Uni kids don't really buy anything that significant.
Funny thing is, I still say thankyou for the reciept.

Cashiers, I tried a self checkout once. (I only had a drink and bag of chips) It kept ringing the chips up as Kitty Litter, so a quick 2 minute procces became 10 as the manager and staff had to come see what was wrong.

Cashier. It lets you interact with other people and helps your personaality
"What the **** do you want?"

"Umm yeah my groceries"

"Yeah your ****in' groceries whatever. Wanna a bag with that? Oh God."

"Umm, yes... please"

"Oh so you want a bag?"

"Yes please"

"Oh anything else sir?"

"No. No that'll be all."

"Oh you're sure are you? You don't want any..."

"No really, that's fine, goodbye."

No offence, but I like slightly more refined interaction.

Personally I'm more of a cashier kind of guy, but my wife is sort of anti-social so we end up at the self-checkout lanes most of the time. I think the new city we just moved into doesn't have them though, so it'll be cashiers from here on out.

Definitly self checkout.

Since I worked in a shop for like 6 months im totally pro at swiping my products.

Plus I watched what the clerks at tesco key in for alcohol authentication into the machine so I just do it myself!

WIN!

Please teach me.
Tell me the Tesco authentication code, I can't be fussed to wait 2 minutes for some grumpy Monique to come round and ID me, than slam in the code.
