There's a difference between being cocky and being confident >_<. Being cocky (in this situation) would be going in thinking you'll easily win and not worrying about it, that's how mistakes are made from carelessness. Being confident is knowing you are talented enough to win, while still being aware of your opponents abilities, but feeling that you would be able to handle them if you give a certain amount of effort (or all:p ). So umm yeah kthx

Confidence and cockiness are weak sauce compared to plain ability. I'd have to say that their effect is negligible compared to how the skill and styles of the two opponents work against eachother. Tom did well because his fox is pretty good. Sheridan did better because his jiggs style clearly did better than what Tom can do with fox. Done deal. Tom may have been confident, but who's to say Sheridan wasn't? But does it really affect gameplay that much?

I don't think so.

edit: If anyone wants to go to Jihnsius' place tomorrow I might be there too. Depends on if Civil wants to go.

I think it has a noticeable effect but you're still right. I think it matters the most when the players are close in skill. Then it may turn the Tyde (puns are fun ^_^).

An example from Saturday: Tom got a suicide against me during our match. He had an expression like 'I'm ****ed' and I basically assumed the match was won. Yet Tomi still gave it his all and won the match, pulling it back from a three stock - would that have happened if I didn't assume it was over? Maybe, maybe not. Also, the confidence he had from pulling that last match carried him through the next to take the set. I got three stocked.

You can't say for sure, but it definitely makes a difference.

I have two possibilities right now, one at Sacramento State and another being a rec room at Hagan Park. Unfortunately I'm working so I haven't had time to talk to the park people yet.

Hey, is there anything going on this Saturday? (A.K.A. the 14th)

I'll be in Davis for Picnic Day. If there's a tourney there's a good chance I could attend.

I need to be back in Berkeley by 10, though.

And if there's teams I want to team with NK. Enough said.

:) :)

Best bet is to head down to modesto scamp. I'm gonna see about heading down there myself so it's your best chance to get some tourney action going for singles and teams with moi.

Any news on SB XI?

Tomi, what are your plans for this weekend if the Biweeklies don't find a venue? Want to go to the Yoshi Town Biweekly? I want to go and team with you or Chok (if he doesn't already have a teammate) if we can.

EDIT: Chok I hope you're ready for more friendlies! lol

Well, the key to the whole thing was Davis and Picnic Day. If I were to go to Modesto that'd be me driving an hour to go to Davis, then driving 1.5-2 hours to get to Modesto, then driving another hour to get home.

But hey, no biggie. There will be more Smash in the future.
