StreetGeek 13.09 101st Birthday Lan Report

PC, Console & board games.

Where: 560 Goodwood Road, Daw Park (Corner of Goodwood and Aver Ave)

The StreetGeek 13.09 101st Party LAN started without power, due to some electrical repairs in a nearby street. So the admins put on a half-price BBQ while we stood around and laughed at BPS's overly sensible car that kept turning off its own headlights. The SA Power Network guys in the cherry picker finished ahead of schedule, so we gave them some snags and started the LAN.

First up was HL2: DM. A very close game with Weyestone (playing as Nic Cage the **** Mage, thanks to Steam), Tavization, and me finishing within 1 point of each other. screenshot

After that was Team Fortress 2, playing Control Points on Badlands. Fred called out plays to lead the Red team and scored enough points to come first, with Wrath of Ytar edging ahead of Weyestone in the final moment of the game. The server was on a 30 minute countdown, but finished 4:11 early due to Blue capturing all the control points. screenshot

The final game for Friday night was Dawn of War II, as we couldn't get Age of Empires II to work properly.

Saturday morning saw Armagetron played, with Caddy narrowly beating me for first place, 87 to 85. The second time he's beaten me, and the only person to ever beat me in a standard rules tournament. screenshot

We played some casual FlatOut 2 after that, which had enough players for 2 servers.

Frisbeemark was on last, with many attempts before anyone reached the finals.

There were scoring changes this LAN. In addition to the standard 10/7/5/3 points for placing, players received 1pt for coming 5th or worse. Each tournament point earned an entry into the Wheel of Win for the tournament prizes. Admins can now place but can't win prizes, Frisbeemark isn't counted (as it's a combined PC/Console event), and ties are permitted. The idea behind this change is to encourage participation, without imposing discouraging handicaps on the top players.
