Me too. Like, what's stopping him?Ye gods
I'm imagining a top-tier Fire Emblem character
Terrifying
Yet utterly amazing
What system? My thoughs exactly. And you can't get him? I may have a leftover code tomorrow, if you need one~
Sheik.Me too. Like, what's stopping him?
That's not exactly an obstacle exclusive to Roy though. Still Shiek does look like she can go ham on Roy if given the chance.Sheik.
I agree, we all know Roy's got some really good strengths, but I think what will ultimately determine his placement will be how exploitable how weaknesses are.Unlike most characters Sheik can act right out of our Dthrow and Fthrow before we can make practically any followup.
Slightly annoying.
Roy is at least mid-high tier I would think.
It's definitely not as bad as a lot of characters have it against Sheik, but Shiek might be able to simply run a train on Roy since he doesn't have many safe options. Also if Roy is forced to rely on his sourspots to win a match up, that's a bad thing. I do think the biggest equalizer is the potential for an early kill, how likely getting that kill is has yet to be seen.by "act out of", what do you mean? if it's a 50/50 on whether she can attack/jump, but we can shield the attack... I'll take that. It'll take away our BnB combos, but that's not terrible.
Honestly I feel like Roy shouldn't be that bad against Sheik. He can kind of keep up with her, poke at her with better range, and kills her crazy early. I'm not willing to write this one off just yet.

Shiek privilege at it's finest.Sheik has a tendency to be able to throw out Fairs and be safe from any situation.
Possibility, but Shiek seems to handily win the neutral with needles and faster attacks, and both blazer and counter are very risky. To me it looks like the Shiek player would have to mess up pretty badly to get into a favorable situation for Roy. Of course at this point is all conjecture, and there's probably a lot of factors we don't know yet so we'll just have to wait and see.idk about several of these comments.
Roy seems to have a pretty darn safe moveset if you watch spacing. Nair/fair have little end lag, Fastfalling means you're very mobile, dtilt is a great poke at any range, Jab/ftilt are quick and strong. I'm not sure Roy can just get railroaded... and I'm not even including the potential combo breakers of Counter and Blazer.
His sour spots (particularly his fair and dtilt) push the opponent back and can force a tech situation, which is a kill chance when fsmash is going to take care of her at like 80. Poking with sourspots is a fine strategy honestly.
I feel like he's going to have some trouble against safe projectiles... I was chasing around a campy DHD on FG last night and that's less than fun. But with this, I'm more talking about area-coverage projectiles than something like needles.
He might also have issues against chars that can outrange him...
Honestly, though, I can see him applying Sheik-like levels of pressure to opponents. his movement and pokes are too good for him to be kept down all that much.
These characters are not meant to be played aggressively (rush-down). They are punished very easily for those actions. They are reactionary and zoners. Looking for the right openings to attack opponents when they take the incorrect actions.I played Lucina super aggressively, and it didn't always work out. Now I'm playing Roy super aggressively, and it's more fun than most other FE characters. I need to put my skills to the test.
Down Tilt is not as safe-ish as Lucina and Marth's. In fact, I get heavily punished by it in most situations. From my lab-work, Jab is a better option. That's Roy's biggest flaw honestly, he gets punished from shielding super easy.
Down tilt maybe? I also use Double Edge Dance to see if they're accidentally drop their shield mid combo but that's very successful.
Whenever I hear the phrase "rushdown character" I envision a character that when given an advantage can press that advantage and force his opponent to make a good decision or get destroyed. Idk it's probably not everyone else's definition of the term but it's always what I think of and I believe Roy fits that description. Unless I'm completely wrong on this in which case help me before I drive myself into ruin. These characters are not meant to be played aggressively (rush-down). They are punished very easily for those actions. They are reactionary and zoners. Looking for the right openings to attack opponents when they take the incorrect actions.
Being able to beat shields and being safe on shields are not the same thing. While I agree Roy can beat shields, there will still be times where a move will be blocked and you'll get punished for it.fair and dtilt sour spot space outside of shield. Empty SH to reset spacing for dtilt, and mixup with empty SH grabs. He can beat shields.
I probably am not. Without Roy, Sm4sh felt empty, like it was missing something. Now that he's in, it feels complete. I am not against new characters or more returning vets, but I don't think I will support anyone else.Random question: now that our boy is in, do you plan to support another character?
Personally, I'm going with Shantae. Just think how much joy we felt when we got our favourite character again, I hope they'll feel like that too!
On topic: Oh. My. God. Roy is the PERFECT character for me. Its very fun to play, can be competitive but is not overpowered AND has an amazing desing.
I'm so happy... ç_ç
I wish he had PM f-tilt. Man I love that thingRoy is soooo much fun to play as, he's very similar to Project M Roy in my opinion!
My Roy skills from Melee and PM have carried over, I've been disrespecting people in tons of For Glory Roy dittos. It's hilarious how many bad Roys there are. I've hardly even seen any Ryus or Lucases, Sm4sh has truly been taken over by our boy
I really want to see Serperior in Smash for that Gen V and Grass love, but I'll be keeping it at Phoenix Wright. I don't care if there are two Capcom characrers already either, we're getting the Ace Attourney in Smash.Random question: now that our boy is in, do you plan to support another character?

For me, the characters I'm now promoting include King K. Rool, Isaac (Golden Sun), Rayman, Krystal and even the Chorus Men, ah and the Inklings. As for why I support them -Random question: now that our boy is in, do you plan to support another character?
