While good for Link and Zelda, what about Ganondorf? He's got the body of a young man in OoT, the body of a stout man in TP, and is top heavy with baby legs in WW.

Ganon'd have to probably just get a stylistic reskin without a model change, unfortunately. Still, better than nothing, yeah?

Fire Emblem deserves four slots only after Advance Wars gets one. :p A FE fighting game would be rad.

Proper costumes would also be nice because they add even more content through a large amount of highly sought-after unlockables.

Kind of surprised you didn't ignore me back during the whole lucario argument. Btw sorry about that I was pretty stupid at that point. Alls well that ends well, eh?
All is forgiven.
At least you're not like Noah, who cannot change for the better. :troll:

so do you guys think there is a chance for BOTH mewtwo and newtwo to make the new game?

Maybe. Pokemon's already got a lot of reps, though, and Sakurai may feel that adding what is effectively two more would be too many.

i guess but pokemon and zelda always seems to get the most love so yeah...

Pokemon does of course get the most love, but it currently has six reps: PT's squad, Jiggs, Pikachu, and Lucario. Adding Mewtwo/Mewthree, even if Lucario is cut, would bring Pokemon up to 7 reps, which is a pretty huge amount. It's certainly possible that Pokemon could just get that many reps, of course.

of course though pokemon is probably the most popular series with new characters always being created so of course pokemon is going to get the most reps

And here we are. The day before the fated Nintendo Direct that will finally show us our first glimpse of the new Smash Bros., I’ve finalized my prediction roster at an IMO not-too-far-fetched 52 characters with no cuts from Brawl. That means the 35 Brawl veterans, 2 returning characters in Mewtwo and Roy, and 15 newcomers: Ridley, King K Rool, Palutena, Krom, Megaman, Bowser Jr. Ghirahim, Little Mac, Samurai Goroh, Pac-Man, Starfy, Isaac, Saki, Takamaru, and Shulk.

With Melee adding 13 newcomers, and Brawl adding another 17, 15 newcomers for Smash 4 is definitely feasible, but if you still think that's too much, feel free to cut Starfy and Ghirahim from the list, cutting it down to 13 newcomers and 50 characters total.

From here on out this is what I’m going to be treating as best-case scenario and my personally preferred roster for Smash 4. Tomorrow, we’ll be seeing the first footage of the game and the first five or so newcomers, and hopefully my list will hold up. My prediction for the characters in tomorrow’s trailer? Little Mac, Takamaru, Palutena, Ridley or K. Rool, and Megaman. Here’s hoping I turn out to be correct.

See you all at the Nintendo Direct tomorrow!

Going to post my trailer roster prediction since I haven't done so yet.

Newcomers:
-Little Mac
-Palutena (seeing how Kid Icarus was met with such positive reactions)
-Ridley (if any villain gets in next, is this guy... or K.Rool)
-New Mother character (to conmemorate the fact that Earthbound was finally re-released in the west. Perhaps Ninten, or Claus)
-Tom Nook (seems to be popular among Nintendo higher ups)
-Chrom

Veterans:
-Mario
-Link
-Kirby
-Pikachu
-Donkey Kong
-Samus

Returning:
-Mewtwo. I bet he'll appear at the end of the trailer instead of a 3rd party character. They will leave the 3rd party surprise for later in development.

3rd party:
-None (at least not for this trailer)

This is my prediction. :) I have a strong gut feeling about many of these, but then again... they're almost dead obvious.
Thoughts?

It might of just been a thing exclusive to Brawl. I guess the possibility isn't HUGE, but who knows.

Snake got in due to Kojima begging Sakurai, so it'd be very unlikely for Snake to be cut. As for Sonic, cutting him would potentially hurt the game's sales significantly, so they won't do it.

Here is my final roster before tomorrow:

Starting newcomers are in green and unlockable newcomers are in yellow.

I hope the Tekken influence convinces them to go completely nuts with alt costumes and skins. There's so much great potential there. Why pick between Ocarina, TP, or SS for the Zelda artstyle? Just throw in all of 'em!
I never thought about that. Good idea! If there's one aspect of SSB4 that I'm psyched for, it's the influence of Tekken and Soul Calibur on the game. Not saying that SSB4 should throw in characters from either, but I'm really looking forward to the style of customization in both series being seen in SSB4. I love Soul Calibur's character creation. My only wish is that they use original styles rather than clone them from pre-existing characters.
Insert über lengthy narrative.
I'm still not convinced that FE deserves 4 characters in its original lineup, but here's an easy fix: Between Roy, Chrom, and Ike, put two of them in the initial lineup and make the other one DLC.

Problem solved. :)

Take out Tingle, Dillon, Tom Nook, and replace Lucario with someone else and you're fine.

Reason I don't think we'll have Krystal is because I don't think we need another Starfox rep. Plus they all have the same type of special moves.

And again I don't know why people put the Skyward version of Link & Zelda.

On the subject of third party characters, I am 110% sure that Sonic and Snake will return. After all the requests that went in for Sonic and Kojima begging for Snake, there's no reason to remove either. Sakurai went to all the trouble of fitting them in, and they do have connections to Nintendo. (Even Snake at least had SOME appearances on Nintendo consoles, and he represents a company that's close to Nintendo.)

A thousand times this. I don't want an original character creation, as to me that clashes with the idea behind Smash, but I would love detailed alternate costumes, kind of like Street Fighter, or the ability to mix and match outfits for the existing characters like Tekken.

They can (and should) be Nintendo-influenced. They can have basis in Custom Robo and the Avatar from Fire Emblem. Moves and equipment can be borrowed from Xenoblade. There are lots of possibilities here to make an original character creation seem as Nintendo-like as possible.

A custom character would honestly defeat the purpose of Smash Bros. anyway. The purpose is to bring in all of Nintendo's best stars, and pit them against each other, not create someone for you to play as. Leave that in Soul Caliber.

Soul calibur is unique in the way that they have custom characters where as Smash features your favorite characters and feature them in one game. every fighting game has its thing. don't change it

Didn't Sakurai mention that some form of character customization would be in the 3DS version of the game though? I doubt it would involve ways to modify the performance of existing characters as that would be bad for balance. (And modified characters wouldn't be as easy to identify and ban from tournaments.)

And like I said, I think a character creation would be the best way to represent things like Custom Robo and the Avatar from Fire Emblem. There are ways to incorporate it without defeating the purpose of Smash.

The way I see it, the purpose of Smash can be flexible to an extent, like with Brawl's inclusion of third party characters.

That's neat, but it's still missing the point of Smash Bros. Smash Bros is a game where characters from various franchises come together and battle in a celebration of said franchises, and an original character simply has no place in that dynamic. Same reason I wouldn't want a playable Mii.

My money's on that being customizable outfits for characters or something similar, not an original character creator.

The closest I can see smash will get to customisation is down two different paths. I can see, if Miis are announced, a limited degree of move customisation, basically chose from a small pool type thing. That's the far less likely version.
I can see customisation in terms of costumes and weapons however being huge. Purely aesthetic, there would be plenty to unlock for each character and would take a long time to get them all.
I really hope the second case is the one that happens.

Custimization is a stupid idea for Super Smash Brothers. Defeats the whole purpose, wouldn't work out, and it'd end up being really crappy.

That sounds a lot more likely and feasible than anything I've communicated here, actually. But I'm not about predicting Sakurai anymore, I'm more about communication my ideas and what I think would be ideal. I still think a character creator would be fantastic if pulled off right, and I trust that Sakurai will make the right decision on this matter.

One thing I forgot to mention.

I don't think it would be a good idea to leave the outfit-swap feature in the 3DS version. Being able to choose between OoT, TP and SS Link shouldn't be limited to the 3DS version.

Those who don't want a character creator are free to ignore it and buy the Wii U version instead. I just really doubt that modifiers of existing characters would only be in the 3DS version.

I'm pretty sure that custom outfits and other minor stuff would be on both versions.

Also, if theres a character customizer, the Mii will probably be confirmed then. (It wont defeat the purpose of Smash since it's Miis)

i hope customization is only for outfits and taunts and that sort of thing. NOT THE ACTUAL FIGHTING PART

I really hope they go the custom outfit route. fits a lot more "character" into the game without actually making new ones. Expanding on it even further than Brawl did (Dark Link was pretty sweet), and actually having more aesthetic differences than just color swaps, like Blood Falcon, Dark Pit, Mr. L, Fusion Suit Samus, and maybe even Doc.

Okay! My last roster prediction before the official reveal! (15 hours left!)

On the side, possible alternate costumes or EX modes.

Doesn't have a big increase from Brawl's, having a total of 44 characters. And, yes, there are no third parties, but it's not like I don't want them back: I'm just playing it safe.

Like this roster, pretty realistic. Only characters I doubt are Tingle and Dillon.
