But, yeah if "X" is affiliated with XenoBlade I'd consider Shulk to be pretty dang likely.
Edited:
Well you can count that Xenoblade is now a important part of Nintendo history for many reasons.
1. Its the representation of the acquisition from Nintendo to get Monolith Soft as a 1º party or 2º party (I don´t remember which is). Why is this important?
Because not every day Nintendo buys a Big Studio, not even the companies like Capcom or even Konami does that. Is like buying a new house for a normal person.
2. The union between these two companies make one of the best games of the last generation (rated by many people and media as one of the best games from Wii and one of the best JRPGs that have existed). I've seen a lot of games in the past that were some of the best in their generation. And those series have still been continued.
You can say that now those games are considered part of the history of say companies, the same is happening with Xenoblade.
3. The first game to be conceived after Nintendo acquired Monolith Soft (correct me if I´m wrong). Why is this important?
Because is the celebration of getting a new house and is a success for both parties.
4. Main title and flagship of "Project Rainfall". Why is this important?
Because it was huge a project, where not only Nintendo decide to listen to the fans but because they found that these type of games are still requested from the West, without the fan demand probably the series will be smaller and "X" will not be one of the biggest flagships for WiiU but now with the success of "Project Rainfall" the series will get more publicity and be a game where the media and the general public will be waiting, probably a system seller too. All that for the success of the project.
5. Have a spiritual successor in "X" (the series will be continued). Who said the game was Xenoblade?
Is not a sequel of Xenoblade but a spiritual successor, like F-Zero to Mach Rider, Mega Man X to Mega Man, Dark Souls to Demon Souls, Prince of Persia (the new one) to Prince of Persia (the trilogy from the GameCube era).
6. Almost sold out in the North America region ($80 dollars for a copy, ouch!). So have a lot of Nintendo games.
Not really one of the highest acclaimed games from Wii is Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 and they haven´t sold out the same can be said about The Last Story and Pandora´s Tower. Not many games can get this success in a short time like Xenoblade did.
7. Cult classic by now. So are a lot of Nintendo games.
But which games are left that have the success of Xenoblade and are not represented in the series as playable characters.
8. Will be a big series in the future, in the same level of Fire Emblem or even more (this is my speculation but seeing the massive fan demand and "X" in the process it seems that it will get bigger with time and future entries). If Xenoblade gets a sequel I'd agree with you, but "X" is not confirmed to be affiliated with Xenoblade.
Spiritual successor, not a sequel but a spiritual successor.
Have you played the game to give that answer or is only your personal opinion?
I am mostly judging him on his design. He is unattractive and ugly. Haha. I have never played the game, I didn't even know it existed until everyone and their mother started requesting Shulk. I usually enjoy your opinion. Do you think Shulk is a good character choice? If you do, I might change my opinion on him and give the dude a chance. Not everyone is gifted enough to have immaculate hair like Jigglypuff.
Maybe the design is not appealing for you, but don´t forget that looks is not everything and you need to get in the inside of things to get a much better opinion. For my personal opinion playing the game, I can tell you that I did enjoy of what I have play that is almost 1/3 of the game, I have spent at least 70 hrs on it and for now I can tell you that game design wise is very interesting I haven´t played many JRPG´s but this one has unique feel that not other game has, it has a system combo that a simple look it can be easy but with the progression of the story, the character development story wise and the grow of the abilities mixed with the scale difficulty of the enemies each time you progress to next area of the game, make it really complete and from being simple it becomes such a hugh thing, is the type of game where is easy to pick up but hard to master. Lets say the gameplay is more of a action/adventure with a mix of traditional RPG (turn based abilities), it seems odd but is a thing that you need to play to feel it.
In the regards of the characters they are really interesting some of them with unique traits and designs where each character is hard to forget, by the way not all of them are perfect so that makes a plus, with the progression of the story you will be able to costume not only the abilities, powers and attack patterns of your characters but many of the armors that you get in your adventure change the looks of the character (weapons, armor, pants, head pieces and shoes).
Story wise is not the best story of world but it has some twists that you don´t expect and even feel sadness, joy, hope and intrigue for the characters and how will they react to a given situation, even to the point of continuing the story to know more and what happens next with characters. I say the main story is not the most intricate puzzle ever (at least until 1/3 of the game of what I play) but lore wise is huge and side quests makes the game extremely massive to the point of forgetting the main quest for hours and hours and the best part is that every extra quest that you do, in some ways change the relationship of a character to another character or the main party (it has so much detail that is ridiculous what much effort Monolith Soft put on this, making it worthwhile complete every quest that you get a cross).
Music wise what I can say, one of the best that I have hear in a long time.
Bosses and enemies are so different in each area and every creature has different pattern that every battle you start with a new enemy will be unique, design wise some of them are wacky, others are massive, you have the big ones and the small ones, you have the uglies and the pretty ones, there are many, some of them count as secret bosses so is worth to explore each corner to found them (most of them have high difficulty so is better to leave them and come back later in the game with more abilities so the game has a very unique feel of progression that make it worth all the time that you have spend playing).
In other words the game has so many things going for it that even what I wrote in here can´t compare as to what is playing it, I haven´t make justice to game, seriously if by chance you have the option of playing try for a few hours, it has something that i can´t describe with words (maybe is the magic of the game).
Oh forgot about Shulk as a character, the thing with Shulk is that you spend so many hours with the character that at the end you get to feel sympathy for him and what he is doing to save and understand what is happening with his world, by the way he is not the simple hero that is a idiot and rush at every opportunity against a enemy (well sometimes) but with the progression of the story you see how the character grows and start learning that every action you make it will get consequence, so at least changes in many ways and feels that at least the character make progress.
I'm not Morbid, but I'll answer, too.
In my opinion, there are simply more deserving characters to be (re)added from other series (Mewtwo, King K. Rool, Ridley, Dixie Kong, Palutena, Toad, Bowser Jr., Chrom, Roy) that take priority over Shulk. I could very well be wrong in my point of view, but that's what I think.
Well I´m not against those characters to enter the roster for the new Smash, but if Sakurai is thinking to add new series to inject some new blood to Smash, I think Shulk is one of the best options because what it represents, the potential moveset / gameplay, his character and his game will be big (stages, items, assisst trophies, music and many more things). And adding reps that already have their series represented is not as beneficial as adding a new franchise as whole, lets take Snake as example, adding him did give Brawl a different feeling and give a unique and distinct view of the game for many people, not only that it give a great gameplay with his moveset, add a level that many people like, his music was awesome and the relation with each character give him so much personality and the other characters too (the info that receive from each character make laugh a lot XD). So if you count this, adding a new series to smash gives it more points and add much more to the game than adding another rep from the series that we have already (they only add a new gameplay).
Finally I finished to answer, sorry for the late response but english is not my first language and it took me a lot of time to put in order all my ideas.
