Honestly it's not even worth it. They are making it easier in Pokemon X/Y for EV and IV though! but you are better off just playing on the sims online on your computer like Pokemon Showdown/ Pokemon Online.eu. If you wanted to check it out I could give you some pointers :D.
I know the basics of pokemon battling, I've been playing them since the originals back in 98, I DO NOT however, as strong as my memory is, take the time to review egg moves or other more obscure things. Not to mention a majority of the pokemon I favour and are very keen on are not avidly brought up on competitive discussions. And do you mean Pokemon-Online? I tried it once, it was fine, but then I experienced the same problems I had with normal Pokemon online games, the same pokemon and the same strategies.
Well you'll be happy to know that Mega-Gengar is a real thing.

My Gengar was always perfect. But I always preferred Gastly and Haunter. And they were always slightly above everything.

I was fully invested in the wishful thinking crowd drinking the "We're getting Sonic in October" kool - aid, and we got him on the very first day of the month.
Eh I dont mean like "Basics of Pokemon". I mean more like, Advance techniques. basics of ultra competitive pokemon. I've been playing the game since 98 like you too but when i first discovered competitive pokemon I learned there was a lot I didn't know. I do mean like Pokemon-online btw.

Well, I actually edited to say that I know about a majority of it, but I just don't tend to review more obscure things like egg groups and egg moves as I'm not super-keen on breeding, not to mention the Pokemon I like and favor are not brought up in competitive discussions because they're either banned (Namely only mewtwo) or are not very high/well-regarded in competitive play, namely pokemon like Weavile, Lopunny, Zoroark, Houndoom, Some of the Eeveelutions (Although my favorite Eeveelution is considered pretty good in competitive play), and a few grass types that run away in fear from the Bug/Steel obsession.
Wait until Pokemon Z.

I wasn't even aware people were still rooting for Plusle and Minun. O_o
I actually think Plusle & Minun would be a great addition. Normally I'd say a good replacement for jiggs, but nobody can replace my jiggs. They'd also represent team battles in Pokemon and please the people who wanted a Gen 3 Pokemon so badly. Sometimes I wonder if they really were meant to replace Pichu, I mean in a way having them as a newcomer in Brawl makes a lot of sense. I just don't believe it because there would be 6 Pokemon Representatives. Unless Sakurai was gonna replace Jiggs from the beginning and changed his mind, but I don't think that's what really happened. So many Pokemon that should be in, but just can't fit int the tight space.....like Genesect.
I would also place my bets on those two, Mewtwo you already explained and Jigglypuff I feel can wait a bit longer.
Gyarados also got a Mega.
Nerfed******** Ice Climbers. Seriously the reason why I hope they get the boot. Either fix'em or ditch'em, IMO.

My Prediction: Just Mega Mewtwo Y as a final smash. And it will be the only Mega Evolution in the game.

Not always, but it certainly follows balance. Why bother changing into a form more powerful than the previous one, you might as well stay that form the whole time. While not always canon, it's the little things they don't follow.would like it to be like Zelda/Sheik transform thing

I meant X/Y being the forms not normal Mewtwo so they are equal
