In Smash debates... there can only be ONE logic. The point of this thread is to debate this logic and call your opponents logic... not logic. The victor is measured by whoever has the most likes. But then why would we need to represent the arcade again if it was represented by Mario, Donkey Kong, and Luigi? Despite the fact that they had titles on other systems that weren't arcade machines by Smash's release, what prevents that logic from being applied to not needing to add an Arcade character?

Sakurai point blank posted a picture of Toad as Peach's move, while it didn't completely shoot his chances, poor Toad took a great hit nonetheless. He's not above it, especially if it's a crucial part of a stage/character/item/etc.

Also, back in Brawl, lets not forget examples like Deoxys.

I would be fine with it. I like Lucas WAY more than Ness. At the same time, if I had to think of one Brawl Veteran that I could live without, it would be Lucas. He doesn't really offer too much. Maybe if they actually gave him his own Final Smash I would feel differently. I just don't really think he needs to be in Smash 4 to make the game feel "right".

Dismissing him from the start would create even more. Sakurai doesn't confirm or deconfirm possibilities. He likes to leave things in the air, so telling fans that they shouldn't be supporting a character isn't something he'd do. The tension he's "creating" is only there due to the support base's apprehension. It wouldn't hurt the look of the game significantly, since albeit popular belief, Ridley isn't the deciding factor for most. I acknowledge your point GRC, but your logic isn't the only way of seeing these things, especially in a game such as Smash, things can or can't be so black and white as if there is only one sole explanation for his actions. Said "great lengths" may not be as significant as you make it seems, as this definitely isn't the firsttime he's let down an entire support base.

1.) If Sakurai does not deconfirm possibilities, what did Assist Trophies in Brawl and "Viridi, Goddess of Nature, is about to obliterate the humans as they battle" tell us about those respective characters?
2.) During Brawl's development, when did we have a similar scenario of getting a vague statement and various updates reminding us but not answering said statement?

1. I don't have an issue with 3rd party characters. I don't have a purist outlook on Smash Bros, actually, because I actually wanted Sonic back not only because I like him but because he's relevant to Nintendo's history. More than Snake, even.

2. Earthbound isn't dead, sweetheart. If it was, Nintendo wouldn't have put up advertisements accross Japan earlier this year for a Wii U VC release. The Mother series is STILL alive wihout any new games. I'm aware of Sakurai and Kojima being friends and all. But you're still missing the point I've been making the whole time and don't even want to address. Licensing. Sakurai has to go through Nintendo and Nintendo has to go through Konami. Licensing costs money. If Nintendo sees no real reason to license Snake besides free advertisement for Konami, I don't see it happening. You're aware of the business perspective which was what I was referring to the whole time, right?

3. Hun, are you out of touch? Are you aware several characters in Smash Bros have movesets they don't have in their respective games? Are you serious? Of course they can create movesets for the Advance Wars characters. C'mon now. And that was just a suggestion.

You need to go out, do your research and look at the broader picture. You still come back to movesets when character placement are not exclusively based on that criteria. It's based on several factors.

Look at the website. Look at the character reveals. It's cross promotion. There are links to the games several of these characters star in. Why would Nintendo allow advertisement for a game on other platforms? They can reveal Snake without links to MGSV but really, I don't see Snake returning. If he does return, fantastic. Bomb Kirby will be back. But it just wouldn't make any sense.

And you too are spinning round again.

1. So probably Sonic is more important to Nintendo history but as a character from Smash both of them are the same, like Mega Man will be in the future.

2. And I have addressed that Sakurai is not afraid of licensing Snake, if Mega Man and Sonic are in right now, what is stopping from Snake to being licensing again and being in Smash when all the work for the character has been done (and it was huge), just tell me. And as a business perspective it would be really important for Nintendo to have again Snake because is one of biggest icons right now from videogames, it would attract hype again like it did in Brawl. So your point is blank again specially because both companies will get positive views (If Konami did think that Snake would be poorly used in Smash, they will not given permission to use Snake in Smash in the first place).

3. Obviously they would give an advance wars rep a cool moveset, but not the moveset of Snake because that moveset is for Snake, if you want to look for really great moveset potentials for an Advance Wars rep you can look the Andy thread where he is supported to be a playable character, and believe me those movesets are more in character than what are you saying about Andy having the moveset of Snake XD.

My concern is that Snake not only has his moveset, he brings all the resources that are behind him like music, stages, assist trophy and probably much more that I´m forgetting, thats why I think Snake is important because each time Sakurai adds another new series to Smash being 1st or 3rd party, it brings much more than the simple character.

So you are telling me that when Ice Climbers, R.O.B., G&W and probably a new Old Rep are confirmed characters all of them will have cross promotion with their most recent game, the answer is NO, cross promotion can be in many forms, not only is specified to the website, it can be something new, a public relations announcement or a Nintendo Direct, you name it, so that does not make Snake to have any less chances than Lucario, Lucas or Wolf. For you dosen't make sense but for me is the opposite.

1. The assist trophies in Brawl were used to support characters I believe. Tingle, Samurai Goroh, Waluigi, etc. I'm not sure what you mean by the second example, but Sakurai's decisions on how to represent these characters can always be worked into methods of support because he hasn't said Yes or No. That's why the speculation range is so diverse around here.

2. I honestly can't cite one. Aside from rumors, there wasn't as much information to confirm/deconfirm characters during pre-brawl. It's a whole new ball game. But can can see where you were going with this, although I think the reveal process this time around will bring about more situations such as this.

This week? Nah. Next week (most likely Friday) most likely. I know it seems rather naive to expect a new character so soon, but seeing as Pokemon X and Y are some of the biggest games Nintendo has going for them this year, it's a game that definitely deserves the promotion. HOWEVER, Sakurai may take the thought that Pokemon, being as hugely popular as it is, isn't in direct need of extra promotion as it'll easily sell tens of millions, more likely twenties of millions, on its own merits. So I can say that if we don't get a newcomer for Pokemon X and Y...I won't be happy...but I'll at least understand the reasoning.

There is no debating that. It does get old after awhile. I am still fairly new around here, so I am fine with it. I know there will be a day when I can't stand him any longer. Thankfully that day is not today.
