Pac-Man, then maybe Layton will be revealed next. I have this gut feeling that we will have 4 third parties.

4 third party will be great,Pacman (I don't like it,but it have big chances) and Bomberman! (screw Snake... XD)

I once had an argument with Noah over who was better for SSB4 - Pacman or Bomberman. I said Pacman because hes an iconic and important character to not just Nintendo but also video game history, and Noah said Bomberman because he ACTUALLY thought Bomberman is just as iconic, if not more important to video game history, because he has some recent titles. You know the usual arguments. "Oh Pacman is overrated." "Oh Pacman lost his prime" "Oh Pacman can't have a moveset because he's 2D and we can't have 3D because I dont like it". Stuff like that. Double standards. Again, it's the same guy who thinks Shantai is a better 3rd party choice than Pacman.

He also thinks Bomberman is a certainty as a 3rd party character, as if Konami wont bring in Snake or Raiden or even Simon Belmont or Dracula instead. But trust me he's not the only one who thinks this way - it's pretty much an anti-Pacman zone around here. I don't understand it either.

I can understand where you're coming from, considering a four-way battle of gaming's biggest mascots is definitely a game-seller, but I'm not sure that we're getting another third party character past the three that have already been in the series as of now. Not to mention Sakurai doesn't sound as if he's all very interested in the idea of Pac-Man from the interviews he's had regarding him and characters in his position, although the way he went out and asked the interviewer what a moveset for Pac-Man would be was interesting, and to be honest, it's something I'm kind of jealous of as I wish I could have had that opportunity to share my own ideas with the creator of Smash Bros himself.

So in short, I respect your opinion, but I'm going to have to say that it's not overly necessary. However, the only way I can see it happening if something happens with Snake, which I hope isn't the case as he was alot of fun to play as and a character just as well-received as Sonic, to make up for the loss of a great character. However, with Sonic returning, I have faith in Snake's reveal in the not-so-distant future.

But man, that Super Mario 3D World Trailer is amazing. The music, the look of the game, everything looks incredible.

Given the fact that only self-righteous speculation junkies even doubted he'd be in in the first place (AKA no **** he's back), coupled with the rather derpy/nostalgiarific model they opted to use for him this time around, it should have been this.

I reallt just don't think Snake is cut. I just don't. However, based on the fact that Pac-Man would truly make Smash Wii U a game of the century based on the fact that 4 Video Game Giants can duke it out, I am now almost certain he is going to be in.

Are you serious? Yellow Devil was shown right off the bat in Mega Man's trailer in the Dr. Wily stage. Whether or not it's a boss fight or a stage hazard is unknown, more likely the latter, but the point is that we're immediately shown footage of it not being playable. Same for Nintendog, which acts like a giant looming in the background of its stage. Even Cragalanche, who Sakurai mentioned in the description of one of his Kid Icarus Uprising stage screenshots, had an immediate, literal "Not really." to his statement of maybe being a stage hazard.

Compare those to Ridley. We have not seen a single bit of Ridley thus far. There's no reason why he wouldn't just tell us that Ridley is a stage hazard or not like Cragalanche. There's been not a single bit of footage or screenshots to show that Ridley is a stage hazard. If he was a hazard, Sakurai has been deliberately giving us angles where we cannot see him. Does that not come off as suspicious to you? Whether or not Ridley is playable, it's a fact that Sakurai is definitely giving Ridley attention this time by teasing us about him with none of the detail equivalent entities like Yellow Devil or Nintendog have gotten.

Like I said before, there is no reason to avoid showing us Ridley unless Ridley is playable. By getting people riled up, speculating, arguing, and wondering about Ridley and his appearance, Sakurai is giving attention to Ridley. It's the Streisand effect at it's very finest and it's been known to work plenty of times before. It isn't a stretch by any means to say Sakurai is using the same method to promote a newcomer in the future.

And like I said before, I doubt he cares. You're making a big deal out of something that isn't there. There screenshots are deliberately avoiding him, but that does not mean the only reason for this is his playability. It may not be ready to show, or more likely he's still teasing him as stage hazard. Why? Because it's Ridley. A character Sakurai realizes is of great speculation and would cause too much fan uproar if immediately confirmed/deconfirmed unlike the other examples you mentioned. Not really suspicious at all. The situation could be quite the opposite, teasing supporters until he's revealed as the stage hazard. You can't think Sakurai would dress a character reveal in this manner. It's out of character, but that's my opinion. I'm just saying your "evidence" is more of an optimistic speculation than an actual argument.

Don't get me wrong, if Konami had three characters in Smash, then I'd welcome Bomberman along with Snake and Simon Belmont, but I just don't feel right with him replacing Snake, even though he had a crossover game with Wario once.

I actually have to agree with you on this one. Pac-Man is WAY more likely than Bomberman. I don't even know where he pulled Bomberman out of. People are getting Pac-Man from Namco and the leak. Where the hell is he getting Bomberman? You already stated one of the biggest flaws in Bomberman's chances. Actually... the biggest. If Konami gets a rep it is going to be Snake. End of story. If they don't get Snake, they aren't getting anyone.

Go look him up, he's done more than just a crossover. But, with Third-Parties returning in Smash 4 he's not getting in. I must say, after waiting for the Pic of the Day for roughly 20 minutes after it's normal release I had a hunch we'd see some new Smash info. The same thing happened with Luigi's reveal. Wouldn't have expect Sonic though, but he looks pretty menacing awesome. I really like how the Lost World stage and it looks kinda rounded like a planet, I wonder if gravity will function differently on it.

All in all, Sheriff is the first Nintendo character according to the definition of what a character is.

Well I just pointed out that you said that the Arcade needs representation and I pointed out 75m and Mario Bros. in Brawl.

So was the NES in Melee, but Sakurai went searching for characters ONLY from NES. (not counting references and ports within another game.)

I'm not completely certain why you keep suggesting that when I continue to ask why the Arcade should have a system specific character over the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, Game Boy, or Virtual Boy? Those are actually Nintendo consoles after all.

I still think his game style adds some potential and is probably the best throwback character not from an NES game.

If you can tell me a good unique and logical moveset for the character, I'd be more open to him. But I don't see anything new or worthy coming from the character other than being a throwback to the arcade. The character needs to do more than just represent something new (or in this case, old / historical).

I don't base retro characters on how recently they've been referenced and I highly doubt Sakurai does either. So Sheriff is a somewhat likely candidate.

That's kind of a double standard.
I mean your saying you don't count recent references but you'll count Sheriff's melee references and not say, Takamaru's inclusion in Nintendo Land (Just as an example, I don't know if you actually count that or not). So you're basically saying that Takamaru's chance has lowered as a retro character because he's had a reference in a recent game but Sheriff hasn't been touched since 2004 (That's at least how I'm seeing your statement).

I do admit he might be a little unimpressive so you are right about that, but Sakurai is good at making things work.

I'm not saying he wouldn't be able to, but Sheriff's inclusion would probably feel kinda forced and he'd probably stick out in comparison to other characters. I mean sure, Snake's a mercenary and all, but the Metal Gear Solid franchise still has that fantasy feel to it. I mean not a lot of what happens in the game would happen in real life, so it still fits in.
Sheriff is a Sheriff that shoots bandits to save his girlfriend, it's not exactly the most interesting sounding adventure.
But if he did make it in, I'm sure Sakurai would come up with some way to make it feel unique.

Well he's in three already.
The third one coming out this year in Japan and probably eventually everywhere else next year maybe.

Not to mention that Mario is the announcer for Pac-Man Vs.
also Pac-Man is Miyamoto's favorite video game character is Pac-Man.

and if we get Pac-Man, we'd have the three characters that should have been in Project X Zone in Smash Brothers.

Yeah. No problem. I just don't think Lucas has a GREAT chance. I am not saying that he will not return. He is one of the only Brawl veterans I am betting against though. Snake is mostly due to the notion that I think Sakurai will want to take it easy on 3rd parties. It is not a pressing concern or anything. However, Sonic HAS to return to the next Smash now. 2 games for a 3rd party character is remarkable. I honestly didn't see it happening. If it wasn't for an article I read earlier where Sega alluded to the premise of Sonic being in Smash 4 I would not have seen it coming. Lucario is one of my favorite characters to play. Pokemon is saturated though. If one Pokemon character HAD to go, I would prefer Pokemon Trainer. He wasn't on your list though. Haha. Wolf gets to stay because I used to be a huge Star Fox fan. Wolf was my favorite character. I spent SOOO many hours trying to unlock him in Melee. I would hate to see him leave before Falco because he isn't a clone. He isn't even a semi-clone.
