Smash Lord
I was mostly teasing with your roster. Realistically, Snake doesn't look like he's coming back. Lucas will stay, Lucario looks like he's going to be safe. Your argument is valid in terms of how you made your roster. But really, Snake doesn't and probably will not have any priority over any first party character. Character placement are not based on movesets. It's based on a character's significance in Nintendo's history and of course, a lot on popularity. Do you honestly think Snake would have been popular in the Smash community if he didn't appear in Brawl? I doubt ANYONE would care or even suggest the bloke if he didn't make that guest appearance. A lot of people who even main Snake don't even care for the MGS series. And really, if Snake doesn't return to Smash 4, I can guarantee the same people who mained Snake will flock to another character with a broken moveset or due to their tier placement. They used Snake because of his broken movesets and high placement on the tier list. Of course, that's all on them. Their choice if they wanna play the game that way. Cheers.
This obviously doesn't apply to everyone who mains Snake, but I'm calling a spade a spade.
An original MGS title would have sold well on Wii. I disagree with that.
I main Ness, and Lucas is completely different. You're looking at the character in the most superficial sense. So, no you're wrong. Just because they share 3 specials that are a bit similar but frankly, heavily altered, don't make them entirely the same. I thought Lucas brought a different take on a character from that universe and to me, I find him more satisfying to play as than Snake. Lucas feels more rewarding than using Snake with broken movesets. That's just me, though.
And I don't understand how cutting Snake and losing a lot from the Smash community would be a bad thing. If you like Smash Bros, for most part it meant you liked Nintendo and their characters. Are you telling me that people just play Smash Bros to choose the BEST character moveset wise and play strictly to win? Smash Bros features mostly 1st party characters and has always been that way up until Brawl. So, no, I don't get people will lose out. Again, I don't think Nintendo will go out of their way to license Snake. Megaman is in Smash 4 most likely due to request by fans. Between Megaman and Snake, the former is far more relevent and holds a special place in Nintendo's history anyways.
I hold Earthbound higher than MGS in regards to relevance to Nintendo. Honestly, Bomberman is far more relevant to Nintendo than Snake and could bring an entirely new and fun moveset like Snake. I'd hope that if Nintendo were to license a character from Konami, it'd be Bomberman.
I'd only miss Snake if he were to get cut only because I won't be able to use Bomb Kirby
At the end of the day, I'm hoping no characters are cut. I wouldn't enjoy to see anyone's favorites to be removed. I'm just being realistic and judging by Kojima's disinterest in the Wii U or even Nintendo at the moment, I just can't see Snake making the cut over another 3rd party character that has contributed more to Nintendo. Look at Konami right now and see what they're doing. That company doesn't even seem remotely interested in working with Nintendo especially after the bomba that is Castlevania Lords of Shadow on 3DS. Konami isn't the same anymore. They don't have the same relationship that Capcom or any other part has with Nintendo. Look at the broader picture and beyond a moveset of a character.
But you defend Lucas for the same reason, you main him and you will be sad that said character will be cut, for me it dosen´t make sense what are you saying, is like saying to you that Lucas will be cut and by the way there are new comers (you will probably gravitate to play Ness for having similar moveset as Lucas but if you do the same for Sbake which character share the similarities with him NO ONE). And when did I say the kit of Snake is broken, I think is one of the hardest characters to master but at the same time one of the most rewarding once you train enough with it. What you say about popularity I can assure Snake has more fans than even Lucas and Ness combined for number of sales and games so your comment dosen´t hold much.
If you dismiss the work of Snake as a character from Smash compared to Lucas or even Ness I don´t think we are in the same page then. I´m sure that Sakurai will consider the idea to dismiss a character like Snake really a bad idea for the amount of time that went invested in its development for Brawl.
So instead of cutting Snake why not improve the moveset of Lucas or Ness so it can get better and in the standards of Snake I think it would better than waste work in character that has already prove to be one the most balanced in way.
Prove me that a game like Metal Gear Solid will sell as well like a Sony console. What you say now I will laugh it has proven that games like No More Heroes, MadWorld, Splinter Cell, Assassin´s Creed, Mass Effect and many more that resembles a more mature audience, that takes a more realism and has more mature content dosen´t sell as well as putting say game in another platform, so first learn what is marketing and then comeback when you have read some of it.
Your personal opinion in Lucas and what is more rewarding fall short, you should consider both parts and you will see that Snake > Lucas in moveset for the simple reason there is no other single character in smash that plays the same if there would be another character like Snake in Smash, I don´t know maybe F-Zero character I would probably take that character but currently there is none Lucas gets the axe.
I say if Sakurai considers third party characters spcial character he will think twice about Snake as for Lucas he will consider him but at last if cuts need to be probably Lucas will be one of the first.
And there is your answer with Castlevania for the 3DS it didn´t go well because of the demographic anyone with some resembles of marketing, administration or advertising can tell that it would not well for the simple reason that it dosen´t cater to the crowd that own a nintendo console, the same will happen to majority of series from Konami because are for other audiences the only one i can think is Bomberman but it seems as dead as Mega Man was before Nintendo bring it up again from the grave.
