Sakurai seems to be showing off (presumably) unlockable characters early, so I wouldn't be surprised.

So what do you guys think were getting next vet or newbie?

Personally...since I know it's going to be a Pokemon vet....I want it to be Jigglypuff. Jigglypuff is probably the character with the most controversy surrounding it right now, especially thanks to lack of relevancy in recent years, so seeing her announced as the second Pokemon in Smash 4 would be a breath of fresh air. Not to mention now that Jiggs is a Fairy type, she has a reason to be announced along with the game that started this brand new type.

Edit: Not to mention I hope that we get a second veteran reveal in Sonic, that'd be nice as well. October is a big month after all for game releases. (Not to mention I think it'd be hilariously amazing if both my Melee main and Brawl main were announced in the same month)

I really just want Pokémon Trainer to get all of those "The 3DS can't handle him" and "Johto/Hoenn/Sinnoh/Unova/Kalos Trainer replacing him" ideas out of the window. Jigglypuff would also be nice.

As I said before, ANY Pokemon veteran confirmation (Mewtwo included) is going to be a big deal since there is a lot of idiots for each of them saying that they are on the chopping block.

That is not until November. And November is already crowded with Super Mario 3D World and A Link Between Worlds.

That's what makes Sakurai so unpredictable. We don't know who he'll reveal next.

Statements like this justify my previous post. I think at the very least Jigglypuff is safer than Lucario and Pokemon Trainer, if for nothing else but her seniority. On the topic of Toon Zelda, I'D BE HYPED MORE THAN EVER IF SHE WAS REVEALED. (assuming she'd be revealed earlier than RIdley)

Seriously, I have always been fond of the idea of a playable Toon Zelda, whether she has a second form or not. (I'd prefer Tetra, but a Phantom would do fine with me as well) But I don't like the idea of Toon Sheik becoming a thing in Smash. (I'd actually like to see Toon Sheik in a LoZ game though)

Not really, the only thing that got shot down was that Toon Link was low priority, the fact that Toon Link was announced VERY early doesn't exactly correlate to Jigglypuff being more important, it just means that Toon Link was seen as more important this time around. Anyways, I will easily agree that she's more important than Lucario right now...but I'm not sure about the Pokemon Trainer.

I don't think there is any way to tell which Pokemon rep will be revealed. Heck, for all we know he might just go ahead and reveal Mewtwo (and/or possibly Lucario) Jigglypuff, and Pokemon Trainer all on the same day.

I can see this happening. I doubt Sakurai will reveal every last character, veteran or newcomer in the exact same way he currently is revealing them.

I'm not saying people won't be excited, most characters cause some people to **** themselves, look at Toon Link. I'm saying Sonic will only have a fraction of the reaction he got the first time (which I was around for, and therefore can hypothesize what the proportionate reaction will be this time). The initial awe is gone, and what remains is his very strong popularity, so he'll be received as a very popular character returning, the reaction will be bigger than for most veterans, but not something earth-shattering like the first time.

I bet more people will go "AMAZING" for Mewtwo.

Granted, it won't be anything earth-shattering. No veteran returning will. No veteran in Brawl was earth-shattering, and not even the cuts were earth-shattering.

I'll agree with you that out of all the Nintendo characters, Mewtwo will probably be more amazing, but Sonic overall (This isn't just counting internet forums but actually, you know, people) will still be quite earth-shattering.

In short, I agree with you that there's less hype around this time, and that people are still somewhat excited for veterans, and that Mewtwo will be hyped, but can't really say so about Sonic not being a "Wait what". Granted, Sonic (Along with the possible return of Snake) would probably be more a "Wait what" for all the wrong reasons, in other words, "What the hell third-parties are returning?"

And that poll, the vast majority of respondents responded with "No." As in they are not upset.

That other poll too, the vast majority said 'neither', I'm actually surprised it was even an option.

My conclusion after looking through some posts: GameFAQs isn't bad, it's some very active users that are bad and jerkfacery.
I kinda think it's this way in most internet communities, to varying degrees, obviously.

Mewtwo's a veteran, but much like any third-parties and any characters that didn't make it to Brawl, a much more appreciated one.

Yeah, with those releases you just reminded me you've given me hope. I think these next few months will be interesting regardless, and I think any pokemon reveal (Even PT) will be really pleasing to see.

I definitely see Zelda and Diddy Kong coming in November. (Still hope to see PRINCESS Zelda). And if SEGA was smart, a Sonic announcement in October would be great advertising for "Lost World".

Here's the thing with Mewtwo. He was absent from brawl, so how will they handle it? Will they call him a "Newcomer"? Or will they treat him as a veteran? A "returner"? haha

You really needed to be there when the Pyrosphere stage was unveiled alongside Sakurai's controversial comment. Even the mention of Ridley on there to this day causes havoc to the point that if you want to make yourself clear that you're joking about something you need to call him Yeldir instead.

Even though a Mewtwo announcement would make perfect since for XY release, I think you're right. I see a Lucario or Pokemon Trainer announcement before I see them announcing Mewtwo. Mewtwo would be an amazing unlockable secret character.

Okay, so I woke up this morning and immediately saw Toon Link on the roster, and I was delirious. I posted some things on various threads, but let me be formal now.

Oh my lord. I am so very happy Toon Link was back. I thought he would be one of the last characters to be shown, but I guess Sakurai said **** THAT. I am happy for myself and all Toon Link fans out there, including JohnKnight, FalKoopa, Phantoms, etc.

I also expect there to be a direct very soon in October about Pokemon X/Y, where they will show off a trailer for Mewtwo. Why? Well, my theory is that a newcomer is next (I'm guessing he'll be considered a newcomer). This is the first time where there are three spots left on the last row on the site, three slots = 1 newcomer. I'm hoping I'm correct, and I hope to see Mewtwo. I also predict Sonic at the end of October, Zelda in November, and Diddy Kong/ newcomer "Christmas present" in December.

But with Toon Link, what does this mean? We're obviously getting the four slots Zelda had, which is wonderful. But how many veterans will be back? Will there be a lot of newcomers? Is Toon Link going to be further decloned as time goes on, and has Toon Zelda/Tetra's chances gone up considerably?

No doubt in my mind we're seeing the five Zelda characters we saw in Brawl (SHEIK INCLUDED). And this also means background characters and priority from previous games mean ****. Make way for Wolf and Jiggz, everyone! And I guess make way for Toad... But possibly make way for Ridley?

Edit: Okay, my theory is bull****. But it's just to justify Mewtwo for the next reveal!

Well then screw my theory. But I still believe Mewtwo is next. We are long overdue for a newcomer, and some over-the-top hype (Toon Link wasn't enough for people, I guess) and I think Mewtwo's return from his seemingly long hiatus will do just that.
