I've never actually gotten into Fire Emblem, but I really want to. But for now, Melee's my only experience with Roy. All I ask for is a few changes and more FIRE!

In terms of actual additions, Brawl added Wario, Meta Knight, Pit, Zero Suit Samus, Olimar, King Dedede, Ike, Lucas, Lucario, R.O.B., Wolf, Charizard, Ivysaur, Squirtle, Toon Link, Sonic, and Snake. 17 moveset additions. However, of those characters, only 14 of them had their own character slots, and Toon Link could be seen as a revamped Young Link for all intents and purposes. When I said Brawl added 10, I was subtracting from the cut veterans as well.

Now, in terms of not getting as many newcomers, yes, I think it's definitely a given that Sakurai means less than Brawl's amount of newcomers. However, when you factor in the lack of time Sakurai and his team will have this time around for development, as well as the statement that Sakurai would like to avoid as many cuts as he can and the crystal-clear statement that he'd like to take the roster's focus a different direction this time rather than to simply add a lot more, I think it's reasonable to conclude that we won't get as many characters as we hoped for.

With the amount they seem to be trying to rebalance the veterans this time around, I wouldn't be surprised at all if we get 10 new movesets as an absolute max.
You forgot Diddy Kong, which makes it eighteen. But that's beside the point...

I don't see how character slots are relevant. Sure you only see thirty-five characters in Brawl's character selection screen, but Sakurai includes transformation when discussing how many characters are in a game (saying that Melee has twenty-six characters and Brawl having thirty-nine characters). So even if you subtracted five, that would still mean Brawl has thirteen more characters than Melee did.

Smash 4 is likely going to be the game with the most developmental cycle because of various reasons (such as Sakurai working on two versions and that the graphics that are much better technical-wise than Brawl). This isn't to say long developmental cycle will result in more characters, but it does give Sakurai more time to implement what he wants. If the game were to release during Q3 or Q4 2014, then it would already beat Brawl's developmental time. Granted, time constraints will always be an issue and as such, character being cut due to time constraints is a real possibility, but Smash 4 should give Sakurai a little more room to breath time-wise.

As for changing the direction of the roster, he didn't say anything about doing that, just that a change of direction may be what's needed (which could refer to the entire game itself).

All we can do now is wait and see what happens to the roster. However, Sakurai did state that he wanted to add in as much as he could. Whenever that is a lot or not remains to be seen, but considering that there more than enough plausible additions left to have more additions than Brawl, I wouldn't rule out the possibility of us getting ten to fifteen newcomers this game.

What's more important though?
Star Fox is smaller and pretty dormant at the time.
Kirby is big and better than ever.
Not that either will get a new rep, but I just think Kirby deserves it more.
If we're talking about series representation, then obviously Kirby is the bigger series.

However...I have to say that I would find Krystal a more interesting character choice than any potential Kirby newcomer. I think Star Fox has a better library of main characters.

Did I just step back into youtube? Because judging by everything in Red (Which are bad ideas), it certainly looks like it. All I need is a Ridley is too big comment and it'll be perfect...ly horrible.

Honestly, Waluigi and Prof. Layton wouldn't be that bad. They're cool characters (to me) and a puzzle character/ sports character hasn't been added yet(not including Dr. Mario)

Hmmm... I'm just going to sum up my opinions on those topics
Fire Emblem: I don't give a **** about Roy but that's just like, my opinion man! DONE!
Pokemon: What MagnesD3 just put down DONE
Ridley: He may or may not happen but I hope he does DONE
Oh and also on the topic of Zelda since that one's boring too I DON'T CARE JUST KEEP LINK AND DECLONE GANON MORE! DONE!

Oh and MagnesD3
I'm not really behind the all vets FE roster as the "realistic" choice
Krystal is iffy
4 DK reps is iffy
Impa is iffy
You could try to put some more thought into new series representation.
8.9/10 (I would rate higher but I'm trying to get out of the habit of handing out 9s.) =P
I agree that the iffy can be up to a coin toss but I do still see them as pretty realistic (also I dont see diddy being comboed with dixie being too far-fetched either) as for new series their are technically 5 which is about the average for new series to be added per game so I find it pretty realistic.

Listen, you can have your own opinion and I can have mine. You don't have to bash me for it. Am I allowed to think characters like Dawn and NES Mario are good additions?

Look, you're allowed to have your opinion and all on what would be cool to see in SSB.

...But did you REALLY have to drop Diddy Kong? Like, the second most important character to Donkey Kong? One of Nintendo's best-selling franchises? The franchise that's getting a new game soon? The character who is one of the most loved in competitive play?

Yeah, sure you are....but give me one reason that makes them good choices. And "They'd be cool" is not a real reason.

Also no, a second Sonic character is NEVER a good addition.

I guess I didn't. I was just trying to think who to drop to make more room. I might replace someone else.

But the rest of you, why? Why do you think starting a flame war is a good idea?

The user Diddy Kong can attest to this, but closeted haters of Diddy Kong the character still exist, as they did back before he was revealed for Brawl, most of them just know better than to voice such a horrendous opinion, especially since his fate is no longer as up in the air as it was back then. ;)

Just answer my question and there won't BE a flame war. It's a simple question, WHY did you pick those characters and what importance do they bring to Smash Bros?

I hate Diddy Kong. I don't think he will be cut though. I wish he was tied to Donkey Kong like Ice Climbers back in Melee. That would have made my day.

No, I'm not a hater. Diddy is actually a very well thought-out character and I was just thinking that maybe he isn't too popular. I wanted to have 45 characters on my roster, and I couldn't decide who to drop for newcomers.

So he can have his opinion, but not if it means his opinion involves bashing you? That's rather hypocritical, my friend.

You can think they're good additions. Doesn't mean anyone else will think the same. NES Mario though... That's just asking for people to look at you funny.

Or you can be like me! I don't like Diddy Kong, I find his character more annoying then humorous (people could probably say the same about Jigglypuff but different strokes for different folks I guess.) and I don't really like him as a smash fighter either, does that mean he's leaving? Hell naw.

Ah, sorry for my misinterpretation. I was rereading Diddy's old thread recently, and there were guys talking about how he'd never make it in, Nintendo doesn't care about him anymore aside from spin-offs, and that he's a stupid monkey who would look out of place next to the rest of the roster. Good times.

I'm not going to be a duck like everyone else kinda is right now. But if you post on here, you will get criticized for some of your odd choices.

Yes. Criticism is a big part of an online community. I know I get criticized a lot for my opinions. If you want to fit in here? Just pretend you want Ridley as a playable character. :awesome:
