I'd be awesome if we got both Takamaru and Mike Jones. A classic character exclusive to Japan and a classic character exclusive to North America and Europe.

I don't think the only localized in certain areas doesn't matter in itself. But the Smash games have a huge focus on Japanese developed titles, especially the one from certain creators.

When it comes to retro characters, don't forget about portable only characters like Muddy Mole and Prince Sable.

I think with the 3DS getting a portable game focus, they have a good shot. Muddy Mole might have the best shot since he is a Miyamoto Creation.

Opinion: I think Sable is more unique than Mudsy.
A Transforming Prince, I don't think we have one of those.

Also to talk about Nintendog, I think we never a had a character from a pet simulation genre.

I could see Mike Jones as an AT (unfortunately) but as with most Japanese Nintendo games, there is a japanese bias. Sakurai knows about and has played japan only games, but he might not be so informed when it comes to western only games.

To be truthful, I never researched about Mole Mania, it never caught my interest as of yet.
So yeah maybe I will favor more of Muddy than Sable when I get the time to watch some gameplay.

I literally watched entire playthrough of For The Frog The Bell Tolls during summer, it was well worth watching, and really caught my interest. I wonder if it'll be the same for Muddy.

in terms of video game generations, certain GB characters are members of the NES video game generation (3rd), arguably.

American-only.

We in Europe only know this Mike Jones:

If Mike Jones was added into Smash Bros. and become really popular because of it, I can just picture him singing "Back then they didn't want me, now I'm hot they all know me."

I don't know, do you enjoy watching puzzle games?

Another retro possibility that I don't see often is Donbe and Hikari (or even just Donbe) from Shin Onigashima.

I think older Donbe from part 2 of Shin Onigashima could be interesting.

While the Prince of Sablé can transform into a frog and snake, we already have two (arguably three) transforming characters in Zelda / Sheik, Pokémon Trainer, and Samus / Zero Suit Samus. While Muddy Mole has the ability to burrow underground, which is something we haven't seen done by any playable character before.

We will have 4/5 characters once Pokémon X and Y are released. :troll:

Diskun could be kinda cool. He's got feet and those little stubs could work as arms.

He fits the bill perfectly.
If we get another Game and Watch or ROB (and it isn't Wii Fit Trainer), Diskun or Sheriff would be perfect. They both are a big part of Nintendo history and nobody is expecting them.

Wasn't Sheriff shown to not be Nintendo's first character, but some kind of horse jockey was?

Wow...one page in the seven hours I'm gone...this is one hell of a slow day. :p

I've seen people request this character but I must ask since I haven't taken time to research movesets for said character, what could he (he/she/it?) fight exactly? At least for characters like that, Mr. AR would be another funny choice that represents a newer concept taken by Nintendo. he could use cards from various franchises to attack as there's a ton of them out there.

Probably similar to how you envision Mr. AR. Diskun is the "mascot" of the Famicom Disc System in Japan, so he could feasibly take moves from one-shot games on the Famicom that don't have the stardom to make it as their own characters in Smash.

Such games could include: NES Sports (Baseball, Golf, Tennis, etc), Hot Rally, Shin Onigashima, Excitebike, Clu Clu Land and Pinball.

I thought DHD would use the NES Zapper, since that sorta suits him well as a projectile weapon.
I think the NES Zapper should be fast as R.O.B.'s laser, only it makes people dizzy and not take damage.

I do agree with Duck Hunt Dog having the zapper.
Whoever gets in first I suppose.

I don't think it's established well enough as Sable, as you could rely on different forms (Snake with power) (Frog with Speed and Agility)
to win a match. Sable is all about transformation in his game.
