I think the odds of Bowser Jr. and Paper Mario are as middling as they ever were, and that we'll find out their fates once the roster is leaked, given that they'd both be unlockable.

Hard to decipher maybe Sakurai is going with each series at time? Until we get our next two confirmations I will hold the idea that we will get a new Mario Rep.

I have a feeling that Luigi wouldn't have been revealed so early if he wasn't a starter. Sure there is the Luigi's Year factor to consider, but even with that, I don't think he would have gotten revealed this early as an unlockable (he probably wouldn't have been confirmed pre-release at all).

If all four characters are a starter, then it leads me to increased suspicion of a fifth Mario character. It is not a definitive, but I can't help but feel as we could be seeing a fifth Mario character as an unlockable. Whenever that is Bowser Jr. or Paper Mario becoming a newcomer, Dr. Mario making his return, or even Sakurai surprising us all and using Toad or Waluigi instead, if Sakurai has something in store aside from the four we have, then I'm curious about this.

Also I'll have to say no to Blastoise, six Pokémon characters is kinda excessive.
I also gotta say that Ike and Marth alone already give off that East vs West vibe you're going for anyways, so you might as well just stick to those two.

With already 4 Mario starters I can't see us getting 5. It was already pretty extreme having 3 Mario starters and 3 Kirby starters in Brawl imo. I can definitely see another Mario newcomer, mainly Bowser Jr, but he'll be unlockable if that's the case.

That's assuming Luigi isn't secret. I could still see that going either way.

I'd say at this point that any character officially revealed before the game gets released will be a starter, barring third-parties.

I'd say considering Luigi was revealed due to promotion, which was likely Nintendo's decision, and Nintendo can override Sakurai, that Luigi's status could still go either way.

I think Luigi will still be unlockable. He was only revealed early because of the Year of Luigi.

I think there is a chance that Sakurai might reveal the whole roster before the game is released, going off Sakurai's quote on the day Luigi was revealed.

Regardless is there any point in keeping Luigi secret anymore aside from tradition? He's the least surprising secret character at this point alongside Marth.

There's no real idea to Luigi being a secret character anymore no, which is why I figure besides his early reveal that he's a starter. I could also see Marth being revealed early, maybe Ike could take his unlockable FE veteran spot.

Don't care for Pac-Man and Layton quite frankly, and I'm indifferent on the return of Sonic and Snake, so honestly I'd be very okay with just Mega Man. We'd get the extra time for actual Nintendo characters that way.

It would bizarre not to have Sonic, given that there's no good reason for either Sakurai or SEGA to deny him entrance, but I personally would not care too much, aside from the fact that there would be no Sonic music in the game.

I really like the roster but i really doubt blastoise and charizard are going to turn into lone rangers in ssb and serious why does everyone still think toon link is going to be playable even when we all 75% sure hes going to be kicked

I added Toon Link mostly cause of want, and for a better excuse to have Paper Mario still in there. Yes, I also have doubts about him. Charizard and Blastoise, they where just done for fun. I'd be overwhelmed if it actually happened though!

I personally don't like Sonic. Snake was on the roster before I replaced him with R.O.B., cause I forgot him. And yes, if there's somehow a way to discredit both of them as guest characters, I'll take that oppertunity. I'm not expecting Sonic to be gone, but I want him gone nonetheless. Call me a kill joy or whatever, I just think he was really uninspired in Brawl, and would've rather had Mewtwo and Roy back instead of him being in.

Pac Man getting in..? I'll never get that. Nor do I view a Namco-character more likely than before. Save to say, Pac Man will never get on my roster.

It is because of the leak that had Mega Man, Wii Fit Trainer, Villager, Mii, Little Mac and Pac-Man back a few months ago. That leak is still undoubtedly true, the only question is if Nintendo pulled the latter three's reveal after figuring out it was leaked or if it was outdated information.

Considering that Pac-Man is third-party, he is going to be high priority since Sakurai isn't going to decide to add a third-party character, be allowed to do so, and drop said third-party because "he doesn't have enough time". That would be a huge waste of money there.

@Diddy Kong: Which is why we have to place our hopes on characters we do want to get in. Best thing we can do at this point is ignore Pac-Man (although I do see a very strong case for the Miis).

I'm never sure where this attitude comes from. I'd find Mii and Pac-Man to be the most bland newcomers too, absolutely the worst. Buuut I don't have to play them, and I can't say I wouldn't enjoy beating the snot out of both of them. I can understand losing interest in the game because of certain character exclusions, but I don't understand not wanting to play the game because of certain character inclusions.

And hey, people said the same thing about R.O.B, and he's a widely accepted Smash character now, so characters might surprise even if they seem bland at first.

Honestly I would of been fine with NO third parties this time round, but since Megaman's here I'll admit I'll be a bit bummed if Sonic doesn't return. Especially since his late inclusion is at least partially responsible for knocking Mewtwo and Roy out of the Smash series. Pac-Man's a huge video game mascot, and whilst his inclusion would be accepted readily by me(I can think of far worse 3rd party canidates) I really wouldn't be disappointed if he doesn't make it.

Not sad. Just surprised.

If Megaman's the only 3rd party this time round, it means third parties are a one time deal only.
