I wonder how many people here never even knew about Takamaru until Nintendo Land.

Hot damn, I nearly had a heart attack the first time I fought him when he did an insta-kill on me. That was completely unexpected.Oh I was talking about this guy:
I dunno. TOSE did work on things like the Game & Watch galleries, Kid Icarus II, Super Princess Peach, and Kirby's Block Ball, yet aren't even credited for most games they work on outside of Starfy. It's a strange relationship, to say the least. It's been 5 years though, maybe they're working on a new Starfy for the 3DS?Starfy is strange. He had a good start, and a lot of games afterward, but suddenly stopped. The games were released in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006, and then the last one was in 2008.
Do you guys have any idea what I can name my Nikki thread and what I can name the supporters.
Can't be any worse then the amount of people that didn't know about Marth until Super Smash Bros. Melee.I wonder how many people here never even knew about Takamaru until Nintendo Land.
That would be me. In the 4th grade. Can't be any worse then the amount of people that didn't know about Marth until Super Smash Bros. Melee.
And Roy.Can't be any worse then the amount of people that didn't know about Marth until Super Smash Bros. Melee.
Haha, you're right. Can't be any worse then the amount of people that didn't know about Marth until Super Smash Bros. Melee.
Is it ok if I use it?Sent from Swapnote Land, Nikki for SSB4?
Not sure what to name the supporters though.
What about ROB and Mr. Game and Watch? Not a lot of people knew who they were. Can't be any worse then the amount of people that didn't know about Marth until Super Smash Bros. Melee.
Don't say Swapnote Land.Is it ok if I use it?
Sure! All I did was suggest an idea. ^_^Is it ok if I use it?
It's interesting, because that is the first mention of that game since it's initial release back in 1986.I first heard about Takamaru's game from a Famicom disk treasure in Pikmin 2.
You can't go 10 minutes without someone responding to you without reposting the exact same thing you just said?Do you guys have any idea what I can name my Nikki thread and what I can name the supporters.
Nikki's Pen Pals? You can't go 10 minutes without someone responding to you without reposting the exact same thing you just said?
"Nikki is a horrible choice for a Smash Bros. character Support Thread", supporters named "Folks in Denial"
...
"Giving Smash Bros. something to write home about--Nikki for SSB4!"
Supporters named "Nikki's Pen Pals"
I'm trying, at least.
Diddy, Wario, MK, Dedede, Pit, Olimar, ROB. To a lesser extent, Trainer, Lucas, Sonic, and Lucario. Maybe Wolf. But the first ones are definitely mainstays.Who do you guys think will become the Smash mainstays from Brawl?
You know, veterans that will probably be in all of the next games.
I say Diddy, Wario, Meta Knight, Dedede, Sonic, Pokemon Trainer, Olimar, and ROB.
Maybe Lucas and Lucario, depending on what happens.
Any veteran who doesn't get cut will become mainstays, I believe.Who do you guys think will become the Smash mainstays from Brawl?

Darn it, I forgot Pit.Diddy, Wario, MK, Dedede, Pit, Olimar, ROB. To a lesser extent, Trainer, Lucas, Sonic, and Lucario. Maybe Wolf. But the first ones are definitely mainstays.
Me too.Any veteran who doesn't get cut will become mainstays, I believe.
That's actually something I'd like to ask.Who do you guys think will become the Smash mainstays from Brawl?

I agree. I always found him to ne a mainstay, but some people don't think so. Its quite surprising. That's actually something I'd like to ask.
Why does everyone find Lucas to be low priority? I've never understood it. He plays nothing like Ness, he's been considered since pre-Melee, and he was added relatively early in Brawl's development. What exactly is going against him? Being from a series with three games? That seems like we're criminally underestimating his chances.
I've actually thought that way about Lucas for a while, but I've had a bit of a change of heart as of late. Maybe it's 'cause I finally played Earthbound, I dunno. That's actually something I'd like to ask.

Don't know, maybe people just really hate it when certain characters "steal" a spot from something that is "more worthy".Why does everyone find Lucas to be low priority? I've never understood it. Poor R.O.B. Poor, poor R.O.B.Don't know, maybe people just really hate it when certain characters "steal" a spot from something that is "more worthy".
A big thing that I look at with Lucas is that he's Japan exclusive. His game never saw the light of day outside Japan, which means that the majority of Smash Bros players has no real attachment to the character outside of Smash Bros, and they don't have the chance to get an attachment to the character either. Top it off with Mother being by far the least selling series currently in Smash Bros, and it could hurt Lucas' chances. It doesn't make him an easy cut considering he is still fairly unique, but it makes him kind of on the edge in my eyes. That's actually something I'd like to ask.

Wario, Dedede, Pokémon Trainer, Meta Knight, Olimar, Diddy Kong, R.O.B, Pit and Sonic. If any that I haven't mentioned here make the jump to this game, I'll consider them locks from here on out.Who do you guys think will become the Smash mainstays from Brawl?

Aside from the obvious ones (Olimar, DDD, R.O.B. etc...) I can't really tell for now but my money is on the smashers that have unique game play mechanics and/or unique movesets. (Pokemon trainer, Lucario, Ike, etc...)Who do you guys think will become the Smash mainstays from Brawl?

I Wanted him too (But his playstyle could have been better).Sometimes I feel like the only guy who wanted him in Smash.
They share similar specials, a down tilt, and a side-smash. The comparisons stop there, as they have entirely different moves with different spacing, damage, knockback, etc. I've played against plenty of good Lucas players before and I've had a decent amount of practice with Ness. The two not only have extremely different animations in their movesets for the most part, but play like they're completely separate characters with decent projectile potential.I've actually thought that way about Lucas for a while, but I've had a bit of a change of heart as of late. Maybe it's 'cause I finally played Earthbound, I dunno.
Although I do think Lucas plays similarly to Ness, and that Mother is a small series, I advocate for both Falco and Palutena, that kind of cancel out both arguments respectively.
So yeah, after a long time, Lucas is back on my roster.
That said however, Marth and Roy got their popularity in the West from Smash Bros. as well. Lucas' introduction to the West in Brawl was the gateway for Mother 3's demand for localization. Not many Japanese-only games can claim to have one of the most successful and well-known fan-translations to exist, you know. Besides that, if the fact that he comes from an unpopular series really would have hurt Lucas' chances of being a character in Smash Bros., why was he even added in the first place? Way ahead of Jigglypuff, Wolf, Mewtwo, and Roy, no less. Even if the masses don't care much for Lucas, I think the fact remains that Sakurai likes him enough to assure his placement won't be bottom priority in SSB4.A big thing that I look at with Lucas is that he's Japan exclusive. His game never saw the light of day outside Japan, which means that the majority of Smash Bros players has no real attachment to the character outside of Smash Bros, and they don't have the chance to get an attachment to the character either. Haha, Blue Toad..fits well with the roster though
I am ready to be critiqued.
Explaination:
Blue Toad: The thing I'm going to get the biggest amount of hate for, probably. I simply don't think Toad's chances are completely shot, and this roster is a combination of semi-realistic and wishful thinking.
Bowser Jr.: I know, I know, I put two Mario newcomers into my roster. Sue me. I cut Pokemon Trainer because he's one of the big reasons I couldn't diversify the roster; he took up three characters' time. The people who I added at the expense of Pokemon Trainer were Toad, Bowser Jr., and Dixie, who would have not gotten in with K. Rool otherwise.
Four DK characters: As I explained, the cut of Pokemon Trainer allowed for Dixie, and K. Rool is one of the big newcomers that everyone wants, so he got in easily.
Classic Linkaka: please don't kill me: Sakurai has stated that he thinks that two Links are an integral part of Smash...so, since I see Toon Link as unlikely, Classic Link got in...although I wish he had another name.
Falco over Wolf: I switched them over and over again, but I ultimately decided that Sakurai chose Falco instead of Wolf in Melee for a reason.
Poor, poor Pokemon: I kept the vets, added mewtwo, and kept Lucario because of promotional stuffs...but Pokemon Trainer didn't survive. Sorry.
Chrom over Ike: It was one or the other in my eyes, and Chrom has more sales and practically (if not literally) saved Fire Emblem...that was enough for me.
Mii: I think it's just about guaranteed that we're getting Miis, even if I don't like them.
Little Mac: Need I explain?
Ice Climbers: If they don't come back together, they'll just be the 'Ice Climber', so I think they're going to stay.
Takamaru over more 'interesting' retro characters: I spent more than a month looking at and deciding between all of the retros, and I ultimately came to Takamaru. He is the only character that I see as viable for a series revival, and any others that get in I doubt would be revived (ala Ice Climbers).
Wild Gunman: Sheriff is not Nintendo's first character! Repeat! Sheriff is not Nintendo's first character! Wild Gunman was in an arcade game that was released before Sheriff, making him the perfect retro-surprise character.
Pac-Man: Gaming Icon, plenty of relevancy in the world of Nintendo, I think he's the only likely Third Party besides Sonic that has yet to be revealed.
No Snake: Nothing to do with Nintendo recently. That alone got him off the roster for me. He's now a rival character/series representative in my eyes.
Blue Toad is fine and all, but what happens when Blue Toad needs to be on the Red Team...? Blue in the name doesn't really work and doesn't avoid any obstacles plain ol' Toad can't himself.Blue Toad: The thing I'm going to get the biggest amount of hate for, probably. I, personally, would have just gone with the name Toad, but the roster icon didn't have it as such.Blue Toad is fine and all, but what happens when Blue Toad needs to be on the Red Team...? Blue in the name doesn't really work and doesn't avoid any obstacles plain ol' Toad can't himself.
And does Metal Gear Solid 3D Snake Eater not count or something?
Snake's ALWAYS had more exclusives on other systems. Didn't stop him from appearing in Brawl, and it's not like Twin Snakes (MGS for Nintendo) was any less well-received than Snake Eater 3D.It's the fact that he's getting so many exclusives on other systems and that Snake Eater 3D did fairly poorly that made me cut him.
That's my problem with cutting Snake, he has tons more reason to be in Smash Bros now than he had in Brawl. If that really mattered, he wouldn't have gotten into Brawl to begin with, Sakurai obviously saw the potential and decided he'd be a great character, and it shows. Ironically, I think I cut him in the roster battle thread, which was pretty stupid and I'm not sure why I did it.And does Metal Gear Solid 3D Snake Eater not count or something?
I may very well be wrong on my point of view, but I saw Snake's appearance to be as a visitor and as a favor. I wouldn't be surprised if he was cut or kept; I just think that Sakurai has a lot on his plate to jump through the hoops to get Snake included again.Snake's ALWAYS had more exclusives on other systems.
