Why? I really don't see a new Zelda character as something that is going to happen. Only way I see us getting a new character is if Toon Zelda becomes DLC.

Assuming every Legend of Zelda character from Brawl returns, Toon Zelda, either with Tetra, Toon Sheik, or Phantom Zelda.

If Zelda were to get a fifth character and assume Toon Link stays. I'd say it would probably be Toon Zelda with Tetra or Toon Sheik. Either her or Tingle.

If not then just Link, Zelda/Sheik, Ganondorf and whoever the second Link is. (Toon Link could stay, Young Link could return or we would get a different Link again.)

That's my opinion in terms of the Zelda section. :/

I honestly don't think Young Link is wanted enough for his return. At least Toon Link has no direct relation to the other versions of Link seen in Smash. (aside from the being Hyrule's hero and such) and has more games. He was the original Link clone, too.

Tingle, meh, I'm not so sure about him. At times I think if he did get in, Sakurai would go Yoshi and DK on him and he would represent his own series.

Impa has a decent chance as well.

Oh yeah there is Impa as well, I forgot about her. Welp, if Toon Link stays I'd still say that Toon Zelda would have the upper hand in my opinion. If not her then I guess either Impa or Tingle have the upper hand.

My only real problem here is that you cut Wolf, Starfox shouldn't have less reps than the prievous game. (it's not like the case with Melee's Dr. Mario though)

My only personal problem is the lack of Toon Link and Jigglypuff.

I mean right now the closest we have is a a green dino that can grow angel wings vis Final Smash and a big flying salemander whose desgin is based off of a classic European dragon that is nerfed by a stupid stamina mechanic. I want an actual dragon in this game! Even a manakete like Tiki could work if it gets based around the dragon aspect. Q_Q Heck I would even be happy with Spyro even. A dragon would probably end up being an insta main for me no matter what. Just gimme a playable dragon Sakurai and I will be content. :L

Spyro is too small.

If anything, we might get Tamagon from Devil World, but that's VERY unlikely. Spyro could be third party, but I don't think theres enough want for the current version of Spyro. Ridley is the most likely dragon character to get in.

The Legends and original versions of Spyro were far better than the Skylanders version.

I know I'll get quite a bit of flack for the removal of those four characters... but I just don't see it likely that we'll get a 50 character roster, and considering Brawl had 14(?) newcomers, I wanted to compete with that amount. So, based on my prediction of 45 characters, combined with wanting to include roughly the same amount of newcomers as Brawl did, I was backed into a corner and had to remove at least 3 characters. In an ideal world I'd have not removed anybody - but some tough decisions had to be made and those four were simply those I felt I could remove whilst upsetting the smallest portion of the fanbase.

I actually don't know enough about FE or most of the other new characters to criticize them.

You missed my point entirely.
My point is I never used phrases like "What he said about Isaac" as if he specifically talked about Isaac as you are doing with Starfy.
I would bring up what (we thought at the time) Sakurai said while attributing Isaac to the statement.


This renders your attempt to draw out a case of hypocrisy on my part to be null.

So you are basically saying "Sakurai said this, and it applies to Isaac", while I am saying "Sakurai said this about Starfy as he is one of the characters that Sakurai's statement applies to". It's basically the same thing, just worded differently. Perhaps mine is a little more presumptuous, but it's not incorrect if we are to take Sakurai at face value, which is what we did with Isaac.

It's not a big deal or anything, I just thought it was amusing.

Of course this wasn't my point anyway, I was just talking about how Starfy has factors against him, as all characters do to some extent. I'm not anti-Starfy or anything.

I wouldn't get your hopes up for Excitebiker, there are several more likely retro choices. And I doubt Jiggs and Snake will be cut. Everything else is more or less fine.

I'm fairly confident on the Jiggs, but I won't be surprised if Snake is cut.

Charizard would be enough if it weren't for two things; one that horrible stamina mechanic makes it to where you can't viably main Charizard and two the forced switching again makes it to where Charizard himself isn't a viable main, not to mention he needed at least 2 more jumps then what he had. While Ridley... It depends on how he gets implemented for me, if he gets done in a hunched up form on the ground with a big focus on Ariel attacks it would be perfect but if he gets implemented in a upright position, well Imma be disapointed. But personally I want a ral dragon, like this;

Still say 4 Third-Parties is too much. All else I have to say is put Starfy back in and pick between Shulk & Issac. Again maybe replace one of them with Starfy.

Excitebiker is something of a pipe dream... but he serves a multitude of functions on the roster. Firstly, he is in the same league as Little Mac - not necessarily in internet popularity, but in the fact that they're both considered "retro characters" from their NES heyday despite having had multiple games in their respective franchises since then. Heck, Nintendo still regularly acknowledges Excite, having two installments on the Wii, a 3D Classics remake and a big cameo appearance in the 3DS music player. Add to that the fact that many people would rather see Wario with a charge for a side-B rather than a motorbike, and you've got a character who is 'retro', re-occurring, and inherits Wario's Side-B move if he has it changed.

Although personally I wouldn't even call Excitebiker retro, because again, there have been Excite games on the Wii and even the N64.

Stamina is a horrible mechanic. Espically in Brawl competitive play. This is in part because of stale moves. Every character already has a stamina mechanic of sorts in that their moves become stale if used to much, which weakens those moves by allot, comparable to how stamina affects Pokemon Trainer's Pokemon. Stamin on top of stale moves = bad. Also most people would pribably use Squirtile instead because arguably he is the best of the 3. But really stamina is just a horrible mechanic period, even without stale moves while with stale moves it becomes even worse. It was a stupid mechanic and should be gotten rid of.

imo, Wolf is the most likely cut, followed by Jigglypuff and Toon Link. They were low priorities in Brawl, and I don't think anything has changed enough for them to be given higher priority.

Also, thoughts on no Mario newcomers, but we get King K. Rool and Dixie Kong.

would you really use all 3 if they didn't make you? Probably not. they did that so all 3 would be used equally

For that matter, bikers, despite riding vehicles, normally have to keep at peak fitness nonetheless to pull off the feats they do - Excite Biker would be just as physically fit and capable as Wii Fit Trainer or the ol' Captain. However, that could well be part of his gimmick; upon pulling out his bike for a Special move he'd be much harder to knock off his bike than Wario (who I swear barely stays on that thing for longer than 5 seconds), but without his bike his Special moves and a few of his phyiscal moves would be severely gimped - the Excite Biker equivalent to being Popo without Nana.
