Then that's it this screws the guy who said a pokemon rep will be confirmed next and also proves that unlock able characters will be added to the site so that helps the rumor about R.O.B being confirmed in december

Woah there friend, I think you're getting ahead of yourself there. Luigi being shown off doesn't necessarily mean Sakurai is showing off unlockables on the website - it could just as easily prove that Luigi isn't an unlockable in the first place.

Luigi could have been made a starter instead rather than an unlockable. It happened with Ness and the Captain in Melee.
Wait...did miss that on the Direct or the website? I haven't heard that yet.

Yay, Luigi confirmed! I still love the new art style over Brawls.
Mario and Luigi with super detailed, slightly-desaturated, overalls fabric just felt a bit wrong, lol.

I like how my special friend and I were watching the Nintendo Direct together and she was saying "I hope they reveal Luigiiiiiiii", to which I say "They wouldn't show an unlockable character this early."
Seconds later, Luigi confirmed. "YEAH OKAY, I guess they revealed Luigi this early." I felt dumb.
Does this mean that Luigi is a starting character now? I'd welcome that. A three-time hidden character like him going starter means that Ness and Captain Falcon are almost assured to be starters as well. Probably Jigglypuff too if she's in the game at all.

I honestly don't think we can assume anything about Luigi's starter or hidden status, just that promoting Dream Team (and also the Year of Luigi I guess) took highest priority apparently. It could be a good sign for characters like Captain Falcon, Ness, Marth, etc. but we really can't pretend to know yet.

Luigi will never be a starter and there is no logic in him being one either. Being the year of Luigi doesn't disregard all the reasons he is an unlockable.

So considering what Sakurai said about Luigi on Miiverse, we don't actually know what Luigi's status for the game is. For now I guess we can assume he's a starter, but he could still be unlockable.

I'm open to not having to unlock Game and Watch, Ganondorf, Luigi, Captain Falcon, etc. because I already know that I'll see them eventually so there's little surprise. What I think would be interesting is if all of the newcomers were unlockable and the starting roster is all of the veterans (I guess any characters coming back from getting cut would also be unlockable). I'm probably alone on this, but the feeling of starting out with the Brawl roster I know so well (maybe with some cuts) and basically adding to it as I play through single player seems interesting.

Out guessing the producers/designers/developers is pretty much a fruitless endeavor. Just enjoy the ride and accept whatever you see.

Pretty much this. I'm just enjoying the ride at this point no matter what we get.
If the past is any indication, probably sooner.

That does bring up an interesting point - Sakurai stated that he didn't want to create another mode like the Subspace Emissary because the primary incentive was the cutscenes, which can be found online (I mean let's face it, the gameplay of the SSE certainly wasn't a very good incentive). With that mindset, it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to assume that Sakurai has thrown all caution to the wind regarding unlockable characters and his habit of not announcing them before release - after all, the surprise of unlockable characters has been killed by the internet just as much as cutscenes and storyline twists have. I'm not saying this means he's just going to go announcing every little character before release, but it could very well mean that he's not going to be following that moral guideline quite as strictly as he did with Brawl. Basically, if he doesn't announce unlockables before release, there's a good chance somebody else will, so it wouldn't be a stretch to assume that his attitude towards unlockable content may have changed considerably.

of coarse this is proving characters are getting revealed by special events/certain game releases and I too think luigi is still unlockable he was only revealed because of luigis 30th anniversary

I think characters like Luigi, Captain Falcon and Ness are those that are the exception to that. Luigi is obviously going to be unlockable, it's a part of his staple in the franchise, but since they're obvious characters, I don't think revealing them earlier really means anything too bad. I just hope we get an actual newcomer sometime soon.

He was also revealed before the game has been released, and the only unlockables so far who have been revealed early are the third-parties in Brawl.
