God Robert's Cousin
Smash Hero
Not that this hasn't already been done to death, but:
SSB4 Roster with Newcomers in Red
Justification:
King K. Rool for being one of the most requested characters as well as giving well-needed villain-support to the Donkey Kong series.
Ridley for being Ridley.
Mewtwo for being the most requested character in Smash Bros., as well as being a veteran and an important Pokemon in general.
Palutena for Kid Icarus' triple-A success with Uprising, Sakurai bias in general, and expansion to Nintendo's most recent truly revived series.
Little Mac and Isaac for representing two of the few remaining critically acclaimed series of Nintendo not yet in Smash, as well as having familiarity in the form of being Assist Trophies in Brawl.
Villager, Wii Fit Trainer, and Mega Man for all being confirmed.
K. Rool can be replaced with Dixie, Toon Link can be replaced with a different Link, Ike can be replaced with Chrom or Roy, and Lucario can be replaced with Zoroark (or dropped altogether for someone else entirely) if any of them aren't your cup of tea.
In keeping with the smaller amount of newcomers expected this time, certain series did not get new characters. Mario and Zelda are already large enough as it is. Yoshi, Wario, F-Zero, Mother, and Pikmin lack any legitimate choices to get in with a stricter selection this time around. Kirby and Star Fox already have enough aspects of their series represented from their trios already in Brawl. Fire Emblem has many possible choices but the combination of most of them losing relevancy all the time and a stricter selection in general calls for a more minimalistic approach to allow new series to come in instead. The remaining retro and 3rd-party characters shouldn't expect to have more than one character in their series in the first place.
SSB4 Roster Split between Starting and Hidden Characters
Justification:
Brawl's starting roster minus Lucas and Ike, plus Ness, Marth, Captain Falcon, Palutena, Villager, Wii Fit Trainer, and Isaac. Each would have gotten a reveal on the Smash Bros. Dojo, obviously.
Luigi, Jiggs, Ganondorf, Falco, and Mr. Game & Watch are hidden as they always have been.
Toon Link, Wolf, Lucario, and R.O.B. are hidden again in that they don't contribute anything essential to the cast of starting characters, lacking the same star power as them.
Ridley and King K. Rool are star-power characters that function as an excellent foil to their series without being outright essential, making them hidden on the same grounds as Ganondorf and Wolf.
Mewtwo was hidden in Melee and missing in Brawl. For him to jump all over the place from being hidden to missing to starting would seem odd. Hence, unlockable.
Lucas and Ike are less famous than Ness and Marth. I figured that for that reason, it would make more sense to have them hidden on basis of being more atone to being "second banana" of their series' representation in Smash Bros.
Snake, Sonic, and Mega Man are hidden as 3rd parties for consistency.
That said, assuming we can look forward to DLC for characters that wouldn't make the initial cut, is there anything wrong with this as the roster? Would we be satisfied with these being the characters on-disk/cartridge? Can we be unanimous about something for once? Any legitimate flaws whatsoever that weren't already explained? I just really want to see if we can, for once, find something to agree on in this thread... I'm just really sick of the endless banter of Pokemon and Fire Emblem discussion, you know?
