Hey everyone, quick thought. Tomorrow the new Mario & Luigi game comes out in Japan. Anyone thinking of a type of shoutout? I doubt it, but Sakurai has surprised us before. Any thoughts?

Perhaps the confirmation of Peach? Or maybe even Luigi if he's not an unlockable character anymore in this game? Who knows I guess.... :/ But I think we are more likely to see one of them confirmed on the release of Super Mario 3D World but I guess you never know....

We could also probably get nothing out of it though and just another random screenshot which I feel is probably the most likely thing....

Yeah, like we both said, its unlikely, but it is Sakurai. I doubt he would just pop in two characters in less than a week of each other though. But its nice to think about.

Why would Luigi NOT be an unlockable character? He's a semi-clone of Mario as well as a really powerful character. I think Luigi is the only Mario character really worthy of being unlock-able, including Bowser & Bowser Jr. (with the exception of variations of Mario, cuz you can't start out with 2 Marios.)

P.S. If you ask me Luigi is better than Mario, not just as a smash character, but in general. He's the awesomest!

These are all reasons for him to be ranked as an unlockable character, as if he already wasn't. And Sakurai wouldn't get rid of Luigi's Fireball or Super Jump. The fact that he's Mario's brother kind of explains why he has similar moves.

Being the Year of Luigi is a reasons to SHOW OFF Luigi. Where is this random "Will Luigi be a starter?" stuff coming from? Why should he be starter???

I honestly don't get the big deal whether a character is a starter or an unlockable and it doesn't really mean that the character within it is very greater than the starter or anything either (just ask Pichu and a few other characters).

And its not really unreasonable to imagine Luigi and maybe even Jigglypuff becoming starters in this game in order to promote for the year of Luigi and the new Fairy type in Pokemon X and Y. Ness and Captain Falcon were starters in Melee too so its not unheard of seeing unlockable characters becoming starter characters in at least one game.

Will it happen? Most likely not. Could it happen? Maybe. We will just have to wait and see. I don't think anyone is implying that Luigi will be a starter this time around, only that it could happen.

It is kind of a thing in Super Smash Bros. and Pichu is a bad example because he's a clone of Pikachu, that's WHY he's an unlockable.

Jigglypuff kinda got a combo breaker by not being one of the first characters we can unlock in Brawl, instead being one of the last. Apparently that was because she was a last priority character.

Do you think she will be that again or would she be one of the first characters you can unlock again? :/

Watch Sakurai go the PSASBR route and have absolutely no unlockable characters .

Yeah, that would decrease replay value very fast, I would want to try the starters before going more i depth with Unlockables.

Yeah I'd like to slowly try out whatever character I have available first and then unlock the others as you try out the new characters. Multiplayer games with the full roster available usually has less replay value for me.

I would like to see more newcomers as unlockables than vets though. Something I liked about Melee was that (obviously) most of the unlockables were newcomers and it was quite a joy achieving the likes of Ganondorf and Mewtwo in the game. Which is probably why I don't mind seeing a few veteran unlockables becoming starters and see some more newcomers being unlockables since Brawl had more newcomers being starters than unlockable and them being mainly veterans and all which didn't carry the same charm. It just feels more exciting but I guess that's just my opinion really. :/

Notice that the reaveal trailer shows a town with objects that debuted in Animal Crossing: New Leaf, or in other words, the newest game. In the picture for the Villager, Isabelle is present in the background, etc...

Basically, what my point is, is that recency appears to have some sort of influence. However, i'm not saying it's a major influence, or has decision making powers with characters. All i'm saying is it's there.

One other thing is that the Animal Crossing stage is taken from City Folk, so my suspicions that Smash 4 is taking things from the previous generations (as previous Smash installments has) has been confirmed thus far.

Yeah I wouldn't be surprised if the Animal Crossing stage in the 3DS version will be based off New Leaf.

Of course its not the major influence obviously, but it does play a little bit into it.

I, personally, think it's extraordinarily unlikely that Diddy will be turned into a Diddy/Dixie combo character for a number of reasons. So, there's that.

Actually it fits quite well for the normal proportion of SF characters which is usually (roughly) one for every twelve characters. Not that that means SF actually warrants 4 characters...

The only real thing I don't like with it is the Diddy/Dixie or Shadow Mario combo. Diddy and Bowser Jr. are fine on their own, in my opinion.

Imo Toon Link and isaac are coin flips and may not happen if the rumor is true about pacman and the mii, I would replace them with those two if that happens, or they could be replaced by a different zelda character and a random pick.

I'm pretty sure it's just artwork preference Noah, just like everybody else who has artwork from a specific game.

Alright everybody, since I feel like I'm in the drawing mood, I'm going to be drawing some support pictures for characters in Smash Bros 4. Anyone have any suggestions? I'm taking requests.
