Simon belmont is cool but I just cant help thinking Soma Cruz would be so much better moveset variety wise
Well, then again, you could probably say that about alot of characters. You know, Shadow having Chaos control powers as well as the spin attack and abilities of Sonic, Raiden with all those crazy sword abilities in place of Snake (Bad move Battle Royale), and so on and so forth. I don't think a character should be judged that way, since I'm pretty sure that importance in the franchise means alot.

Edit: GODDAMN DOUBLE POST! ....I wish there was a delete button. |3

Im with Hotfeet on the DLC thing Roy would be great for it same with pichu, Dr.Mario, and maybe old mewtwo while were at it. (that's only if the new one doesent have some kind off transformation)
Mewtwo seems to be very likely to be in the actual game, so I don't think we need to worry about Mewtwo. As for Dr. Mario...I'd make him just a costume for Mario, and Pichu...I'd prefer the Pichu Bros.

But that's gimmick stealing...but hey, if you can take the down + B switching with Zelda and make it unique with the Pokemon Trainer...perhaps something could work with these two. For example, taking a page from the design of FEA Pairing character, have one of the bros have unique attacks to add onto your own moves as a Pichu.

Sometimes the speed at which this thread moves...... e_e

But anyway to try and get onto a new subject... What 3rd part company would you want to get represented in SSB4 and by which character? Can be as unrealstic as you want. o.o I personally want Square Enix to get a rep in the form of Geno, Chron, or Joshua (TWEWY) though I cold live with Neku with him being more likely and all but I like Joshua to much for oh so many reasons.

And Swamp I like your new avi. FE ftw~
SEGA with Bayonetta. Seems reasonable.

But Bayonetta isn't SEGA, Bayonetta is Platinum Games. SEGA is just the publisher and owns no rights to the character. Hell, it's because of them that Bayonetta 2 is a Wii U exclusive, because they didn't want to fund it while Nintendo did. :ohwell: But hey, it's their loss I guess.

Sure, sure. They're still co-publishing it. Or at least that's what I thought,

Just checked. SEGA DOES own the Bayonetta franchise, and is the game's "advisor"

Yeah importance is what matters most just wish Soma was a bit more prominet so he could atleast have a chance if konami were to get a castlevania rep.

I wasn't saying Mewtwo wouldnt be in I was refering to the old Mewtwo apparently they arent the same pokemon so I was just suggesting if we only got Eclair forme Mewtwo then we should get old melee Mewtwo for DLC and gimmicks can be unique just tweak it a little like PT did and viola but yeah Pichu bros or even Plusle and Minun would be great.

Point is sega's broke
This. If Sega wasn't in such a bad shape, Bayonetta 2 wouldn't have necessitate getting its game published by Nintendo. It's for this reason why Sega is only focusing on franchises that can make profit from them at this moment and why we're getting partnerships between Sega and Nintendo.

I could also see Sega pushing for Sonic's return in SSB4 since that would essentially be free advertisement for them (plus the fans really want to see Sonic return).

exactly. sonis is the most requested character probably ever. and the only thing going for Sega is Sonic. So sega is going to beg to have sonic in the next game

I would really like three things from this list. Marina Liteyears, Jigglypuff to be replaced by Wigglytuff, and Dixie Kong. Everything else I would really really enjoy, but they aren't anything I would lose sleep over.
jesus this roster is huge and unrealistic......

Given the partnership between Sega and Nintendo as of late, I see no reason to expect that Sonic will be cut. He is a very popular character, has a good amount of games on Nintendo consoles (which I must would have blown my mind to know back when I first started posting here all those years ago), and fits in very well in the Smash universe. If Vegas was open to betting on the Smash roster, I'd put money on Sonic's return.

SEGA isn't bankrupt, they don't need free advertisement, and they have plenty of great Ips besides Sonic. (NiGHTS, Jet Set Radio, Bayonetta, Project DIVA etc.) SEGA has made one comment regarding Sonic SSB4: "We'd love to see him return." So they are not begging Nintendo for anything, nor do they need to. The lack of respect for SEGA as a company here is amazing, considering that their support for the Wii U is going to do great things for its sales. No offense here, as I may be taking things the wrong way, but that was just painful to see how many people don't know much of anything about SEGA at all. They are in pretty bad shape, but they're not ATLUS, and don't need any handouts or Nintendo to save them.

Hi everyone, I'm pretty new to this forum. I decided to share my no cut roster. It's definitely not my final version but because I'm new here, I just want to get some feedback before editing it. I tried, because it's my first version, to be as realistic as possible. Here it is:

Aldelaro5 Roster.png

Total with transformation/switch: 49
Newcomer including the melee cut duo: 10

I won't talk about the brawl veterans since I didn't made any cut. So for the newcomers:

Paper Mario: If and only IF Sakurai feels good about a fifth mario rep, I concluded that bowser jr and paper mario have the best chances. However, I don't see 6 mario rep so only one could make in. The reason I choose paper mario is because he could be so unique (a few examples: partner, hammers, attack with badges etc...) so, it will definitely not be a mario clone. Now, I know that bowser jr could also be unique and has alot of appearances but what really gives some chance to paper mario is what he represents. If bowser jr would makes in, he would represent the antagonist's sidekick in the main series. But paper mario would represent his own series which is a spin off of the main one. Now here it is: bowser jr could be very well here but I think that what he would represent is already done by bowser. Paper mario would represent another mario series which is not represented (and since his series is very different to the main one, he's not already represented by mario). Concerning popularity, bowser jr is clearly more popular as paper mario but according to the shortie poll, his popularity really surprised me and I think that he has enought to be considered in the roster. I also choose paper mario because he's my most wanted newcomer but I think it's realistic enough. btw, I didn't tried to prove that bowser jr wouldn't be in, I just demonstrated that, even with the bowser jr as competitor, he still has a decent chance and I really want him so that's why he's in my roster.

King K Rool: He has alot of request from japan and the west and he's the main protagonist of the dkc series which is not curently represented. DKC being an important franchise, I see him really well in the roster

Ridley: Don't want to talk about the size thing I'll just say that even if he was a boss, he could still be a playable character. Having a huge amount of request in the west and being the protagonist of a very important franchise, I definitely see him in the roster

Palutena: With the success of KI:U, I think that if kid icarus deserves a second rep, she would be a great choice. She's also very well received.

Mewtwo: this one is pretty obvious so I'll just summarize: melee veteran and was well received, popularity increase because of the cut, forbidden 7, still popular and Sakurai stating to consider him

Roy: Ok I don't have alot of knowledge of fire emblem but I can say that if I choose him over chrom was because of popularity and uniqueness but I could see chrom as dlc (can fire emblem have 4 rep? I really want to know if it's possible because I wasn't sure if I should put roy or chrom)

Little mac: This one would be added because of representing retro character, being a boxer could be a good addition and he's quite popular. The stage might (not sure) lead to him being in the roster but it's not sure so it's not the main reason I choose him. Also, I DID NOT choose him because of the leak simply because I still think it's a rumor and I just need more things to consider this leak but I won't talk about it

so that's it. I would appreciate any feedback but please note that this is my first roster so don't hurt me I will appreciate to consider your comments. BTW,, except paper mario and mewtwo, all newcomers has been decided from what I saw but without bring a fan of the franchise so I may said something wrong in that case, feel free to tell me so that I can have a more detailed explanation.

and on last note, english isn't my first language so if there's something you didn't understand, just tell me.

so, what do you think as a first roster?

Tom Nook has other reasons why he's entirely unnecessary besides being a 2nd Animal Crossing rep. (Such as Villager's moveset)
I don't understand what his moveset has to do with anything preventing another character from getting in. Animal Crossing is certainly popular enough to suffice another character. Especially because from what we've seen so far, the Villager's moveset seems to based off of his tools (with some references to the playable NES titles in the original Animal Crossing). But we haven't seen anything related to furniture, which is (or at least was) Nook's forte. We also haven't seen Nook in the background in the new Smashville and Nook was interested in the letter Villager got in the trailer.

I'd say that chances are he's either an Assist Trophy or he decided to crash the party in effort to advertise his business.

Giygas is a horrible idea.

A recolor of Lucas without PSI is an even worse idea.

Giving people new moves doesn't change the fact that they are a recolor. That's like making Zero Suit Samus a seperate character, you're wasting a slot on something you can already play as within another character.
Why IS Giygas a horrible idea? Could you try to elaborate?
...Do you even know who Claus is? Claus IS the Masked Man /spoilerforgamethathasbeenoutforyears.
You should at LEAST do some research on some of the existing franchises in Smash.

Not too sure about Roy or Paper Mario because I'd rather have Bowser Jr. or Chrom personally. I also highly doubt that they'll include a 4th fire emblem character even if it is DLC. I'm actually doubting that they'll include playable characters as DLC at all. Otherwise I have no complaints aside from no Pac Man/Namco Bandai rep.

Everything else is great.

For issac and shulk, I don't have alot of info about them so I may need to do some research but I think I've heard that shulk could be good but I just need to do some research I just wanted to put newcomers that has a good chances to get in first. Otherwise, I'm glad you liked the roster

for paper mario, I don't think I will change him but I added him over bowser jr because of preference and because he still have some chance but I respect your preference for bowser jr even me I think he could be good but I just want paper mario more that's just me tought. For the fire emblem thing, it is very subject to change tbh, it took me some time to put roy but chrom have still decent chance so it's very tought to decide so I'll think about it. As for no Namco rep, remember that I wanted as my first roster to be as realistic and safe as possible and with Sakurai stated that Namco doesn't any special treatment and the needs for a third party to be special doesn't help the chance for a Namco rep. Alltought, it may change and it doesn't mean that there won't be a Namco rep just that it may not have that hight chance. So I may add a Namco rep in the future.

Sega is definitely not broke, but there is merit in saying the are not in great condition considering what happened and they announced just a year ago: Sega canceling games, cutting jobs in US and Europe to restructure
I dont agree with that's why Sonic would be in. They dont need free advertising or anything. But Sega has seen better days.

I think Mewtwo would be more likely in awakened form based on Sakurai's comment. I also think we will see a Pokemon rep in generation V.

Roy is less likely than Chrom for a few reasons. Roy has limited appeal since his game was never released outside of Japan and back in 2002. His last appearance was as DLC in Fire Emblem: Awakening, but it was the same type of appearance as other lords from the series, such as Ike, Marth, Lyn, Micaiah etc. His popularity with Smash (or even FE) fans didnt get him in Brawl, and his standing hasnt improved since then.
Chrom is the main lord from the most recent game, which has been incredibly successful, both critically and in terms of sales. Even not considering that, Ike and Chrom are actually fairly different in their possible fighting styles. Chrom is never incredibly fast nor strong, so he would work as a mid range character. Ike will most probably based on his Radian Dawn incarnation, in which he is slower and stronger, further highlighting their contrasts. Chrom is actually pretty popular amongst FE fans and those who have played his game, so he's got a good shot.
Fire Emblem is a long running series with 13 games, but no lord has starred in more than 2 games other than Marth, who starred in his NES and SNES games, as well as the DS remakes of those games. So it doesn't have the same need to have older characters to be represented.

The rest are all good choices.

I'm not expecting four characters as part of the initial roster either, but should they include playable characters as DLC, I'd think that there's a strong chance we'd get all of Marth, Ike, Roy and Chrom. I think Sakurai would want to get all four of these characters in and if he does use DLC, he'll use it as an opportunity to finish up whoever didn't make it due to time constraints.

So it doesn't have the same need to have older characters to be represented.
.
Some things wrong with this paragraph...

1.Roy and Chrom are about the same in likeliness.
2. Being Japan only doesn't affect chances, plus Roy's not Japan only anymore. No FE lord is.
3. Mewtwo's popularity didn't get him in Brawl either. Both became very popular choices after they were cut.
4. Sales and recpetion mean nothing. Ike's games sold terribly and he got in.
4. Ike also appeared in two games. Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn. He starred in both.

The rest are all good choices.
For Mewtwo, idk in what form he will be but tbh, as long as mewtwo he's in I'm okay with that thought, idk if the full character should be the awaked form or final smash so I just put the regular mewtwo because of this I just consider the regular mewtwo and the other form to both being mewtwo
for a gen v rep, yes it could happen but how? should I just add him so pokemon would have 6 rep or replacing someone? because I just dont's see if pokemon is okay with 6 rep
for roy/chrom, I'll consider it since it is subject to change (the other can get in dlc thought)

1. The two don't really don't have a lot in common other than the fact they are both lords, so I wouldnt say they have the same likeliness. Roy was cut from Brawl and Chrom just came off of the highest selling and best critically received game in the franchise. There is now way they have the same likeliness.
2. Being Japan only limits his appeal and that affects his chances. There is different level of popularity that comes with playing a character's game and experiencing it until the end. It can be seen at any FE poll with the lords among North American fans. Roy doesnt rank so high because his game wasn't made available. Unfortunately, Roy never had that opportunity with many fans. And I said his game was Japan only. Even though the FE lords are all available in Awakening as spotpass characters or DLC, they still don' know Celica's, Roy's, or Sigurd's story, and that's what limits those characters appeal.
3. Mewtwo is in a different position than Roy is now. Mewtwo is making a new, major appearance in the next Pokemon game, Pokemon movie, and just got a fancy new form. The only thing Roy has gotten is a new redesign and being available as a DLC and spotpass character, which they did for every lord, and they did not even make any of them new models for the game. Sakurai has also admitted that he has talked the Pokemon Company and Intelligent System input for character inclusion. With the Pokemon company, he has been more explicit about how much input they have, and Mewtwo is better positioned to benefit from that input. If Mewtwo gets put back into 4, it will be more because of his new relevance.
4. Poor selling games don't get sequels. Ike's first game sold well enough to warrant a sequel, or Nintendo would not have greenlit it. Ike's games sold well enough: one with about half a million, and another just under that. The difference is Awakening has had the series record breaking sales: It therefore has the maximum potential to bring in new fans to Smash. For the most part, the point of new characters is to sell smash. That has been a criteria for Sakurai since Brawl. Characters are supposed sell Smash. Not the other way around.
5. I said "no lord has starred in more than two games", which means that includes Ike's two game status. I was pointing out the transient nature of the series and its protagonists.

Nothing has changed regarding Roy's status that would make him more likely as a character in Smash. If you need an example, just look at Shortie's poll. Where Roy ranks among other non-confirmed Smash veterans isn't very high. It's on the low end of the spectrum. Roy isn't a newcomer, so he shouldnt be grouped with the newcomers (this goes for Mewtwo as well). People want Roy back. Just like they want Ike and Lucario back. But nothing has changed with the character to make him more likely in Smash 4. He could make it as DLC because he's easy to make it and people want to buy him, but he's not likely for the main roster.

For Mewtwo, idk in what form he will be but tbh, as long as mewtwo he's in I'm okay with that thought, idk if the full character should be the awaked form or final smash so I just put the regular mewtwo because of this I just consider the regular mewtwo and the other form to both being mewtwo

I think he has become more likely in the eyes of fans due to the presence of his awakened form in X and Y, so at the very least, the game will include some way to reach that state. I prefer that state being out the whole time because I assume that's the form you catch him in the game. That's how I look at it because I am a big fan of keeping in game mechanics. The transformation seems to what other fans are predicting, especially considering the new movie trailer.
I imagine there will be at least 2 or 3 cuts to the roster, despite his comments from the IGN interview because they are still early in development and Sakurai said they still were ways away from making those types of decisions. Pokemon Trainer cut makes sense because it's basically developing three characters, but the Lucario cut makes sense due to the generational nature of the series. It depends on how you want to argue it. When I make cuts on my rosters, I usually try not to dwell on the cuts because that's what people focus. If I do cut, I explain that the cuts are practical interchangeable. But definitely not 6 pokemon reps.
Just adding my two cents because you said you didn't know too much about the series. The FE series is probably my favorite Nintendo series, so you should try sometime if you get the chance.
It's a good roster and very reasonable in its choices.

1.Roy has the fan demand, the easiest FE character to add and veteran status. Chrom has the recency, newcomer vibe and Awakening. Both have decent shots. Practically tied.

2. Japan is the main target audience. They get listened to more than we do. Besides, we got Japan only characters before with Marth and Lucas. We didn't know about their stories. Heck we didn't even know about FE as a series before smash. Thing is, despite Roy being Japan only, he decimates Chrom in smash requests around the globe.

3. They both got new appearances and stuff to add to their resumes. Sakurai only asks IS if he's not sure who to add. And that only happened for Ike. Roy was chosen by Sakurai. And Mewtwo will not be put in because of relevance. It will be because he's the most wanted character WORLDWIDE!!! Your using the word relevance as "recent" Relevance means
the relation of something to the matter at hand.

4. Okami sold terribly yet it got a sequel. And Well enough=/=well. I doubt Chrom would bring many more people to smash. No FE character really can at this point.

5. My mistake.

5. My mistake.
1) I don't see how that's tied. Veteran status won't help him because it didn't help him get into Brawl. There is nothing that has changed with Roy to make him more likely. Chrom has everything going for him.

2) Nintendo recently reorganized to make Japan not their focus. But that's besides the point. It's different with the original FE because none of the characters were released worldwide. But now Roy is competing against characters with worldwide releases, especially within his own series. And he is above Chrom in Smash polls because they arent necessarily voting for a character, they are voting for a familiarity and a style. See how Roy stacks against Ike. Roy is a Smash veteran people want back. Like they want Ike and Lucario back. He's not a newcomer, so people should stop treating him like one. Amongst other veterans he doesn't fair quite as well.

3) The new appearances are not at all alike. Roy was a not a part of the main game, but Mewtwo will be. Roy is not anymore important to FE than he was in 2008, but Mewtwo is much more important considering his new appearances. Roy wasn't chosen by Sakurai because he just saw him in the next FE game. Sakurai wouldnt have even known he exists if IS didn't show him the character. So IS may have not recommended him specifically, but they did so to give Sakurai an option. And I said Sakurai has talked to IS for input on character inclusion. He did in both games in which FE is represented, so it's not unreasonable to think there is a possibility he might due so again. For Mewtwo, I meant his new relevance to his series.

4) I don't much about Okami's sequel, but there obvious exceptions to any rule, especially considering Okami was the game of the year for many outlets. Ike's game was well received, but nowhere near Okami's levels. But my point is Ike's games didn't sell as poorly as people argue. They weren't great, but decent enough for Nintendo. Sales are just one factor in a multitude of factors for character inclusion, but a great selling game definitely helps a character.

And FE is a strategy RPG series. It doesn't have exactly a great deal of cross over with Smash as a genre. Not every FE player has played Smash, and not every FE fan played FE because of Smash, and certainly none of the new fans whose first game in the series is Awakening. Not every Nintendo fan plays Smash, so there is plenty of people who can be enticed to buy the game. And as one of the most popular characters from the game, Chrom naturally would be the best choice to get people to buy the game.

I agree^ I always have to read like 3 pages back and whatever I wanted to respond to has already been forgotten and moved past. oh well.

I also feel like I need to stop trying to predict this until we get some new info, its tough working with what we have right now.

1.It got him planned. And he would have gotten in if there was more time. Regardless, the fan demand was the thing I was focusing on. Chrom does not have fan demand. I assure you that. Just look at Shortie's poll.

2. Yet he still creams most other new characters as well. Veteran status or not, people want him more than other characters. Sakurai will notice this.

3. Mewtwo will not be a main part of X and Y, I assure you. Sakurai has to talk to character's creator regardless of who the creator is. That's just how licensing works. He has only ASKED FOR ADVICE once. For Ike. In Melee he knew he wanted Marth and changed his mind for Roy when he saw that he could stand out more than Sigurd, who was his plan before seeing Roy.

STOP USING THE WORD RELEVANCE, YOUR USING IT WRONG!!!

4. Sakurai has NEVER stated that sales mattered. He put R.O.B. as a character. He bombed! He puts Mother characters in. Mother does not sell as well as people think.

5.Thing is Chrom isn't the most popular character in Awakening. Not by a longshot. Lucina and Tharja both top him. (:troll:) My Unit does as well. So if Sakurai wants to include a popular character from Awakening, than he should include one of them right?

Here's an interesting roster I've been working on.

The ideas been done before but I figured I'd take a shot at it, basically Sakurai mentioned that "cut scenes" weren't very rewarding one player experience because you could just look them up online. A lot of people have turned to Alt Costumes as a VERY rewarding one player mode reward. They were attempted SLIGHTLY in brawl with Wario having two full sets of costumes (why they decided wario was the best candidate for this I'll never know). This is a really great way to add a lot of "characters" to a small roster, though they are literally "clones", I personally think it's a great idea and could satisfy a lot of fans.

AltCostumesRoster.png

The red squares to the right of the roster are the unlockable alternate costumes for each character in that row of the main roster:

Mario = Dr.Mario
Marth = Lucina (mask)
Diddy = Dixie
Pokemon Trainer = Female Pokemon Trainer
Megaman = Protoman
Fox = Wolf
Mew(New)Two = Lucario
Peach = Daisy
Yoshi = Yarn Yoshi
Ness = Lucas
Sonic = Shadow
Wario gets his alt costume from brawl
Olimar = Alph
Captain Falcon = Black Shadow
Villager = Female Villager
Wii Fit Trainer = Male Wii Fit Trainer (didn't have an icon for this)

The green squares bellow are just possible switches on characters I'm not sure about, K Rool could go due to relevance these days and the fact that DK technically gets Dixie as a rep, could be a new Mario rep, most likely Bowser Jr. or possibly Waluigi instead. Shulk could go in place of Isaac Or Ghirahim could replace Isaac, or toon links out and Ghirahim is in OR Isaacs out and Toon Zeldas in...I'm not sure the spirit tracks stage has me iffy about toon link and I know Shulk is highly requested, I just like Isaac more but Shulk may be more likely I'm not sure. Finally I just have a funny feeling about Balloon Fighter and Villager using his helmet hasn't made me doubt him but rather assume he might be in, He'd replace Takamaru if he is in.

It's not perfect, There could be more alt costumes or only some of these could be in (yarn yoshi for example might be hard to implement) Though this fixes some issues I have with making rosters. Fire Emblem's rep is really hard to decide on, Roy is SO popular in japan AND we have an awakening stage and although I feel like awakening should be represented it's hard to do without cutting Ike or not putting roy in. With a masked Lucina alt costume for Marth we can rep Awakening (specifically the arena stage we've seen) and not give 4 spots to FE. Also if FE just starts racking up the current "Lord" as playable the series will get very difficult to rep in any future smash stages. This also frees up roster space from wolf lucas and lucario while not CUTTING them, it's not perfect as they'd have to be clones (I know lucario fans especially wont like this) but it frees up space.

Hopefully Sakurai will have a similar idea and do something like this so we can get a diverse satisfying list of characters, in a reasonable sized roster, without cuts. I don't think anyone would rather have subspace emissary mode or cut scenes or any of that excess over having a roster like this.

Being part of the Forbidden Seven does help Roy's chances. Sakurai has proven that he does look at old ideas for character inclusions and he is going to emphasize on ideas for pre-Brawl for characters to include. The Villager is a very good example because it shows that Sakurai can change his mind on characters he's previously rejected and if he is willing to do that, then why wouldn't Sakurai try to bring Roy back?

And Chrom doesn't have everything going for him. If Sakurai doesn't go after Intelligence System for character suggestions (which is very possible), it is likely that he will keep what he has and re-add Roy with a heavily lugified set (Wolf/Lucas level most likely). Considering that Sakurai will already have three characters to work with, all of which are highly popular characters people like, this would work out well in the long run (especially if they add a ton of Awakening rep to compensate for a lack of a playable character from the franchise).

Then I guess we should dismiss the demands for Krystal because most people want Krystal not because of her character, but because she has boobs and the staff.

But seriously, I don't see how wanting Roy back because of Melee makes the demand any less legitimate. People want Roy back because they liked him in Melee and enjoyed him there; as such its natural that many people want him back because of Melee. Popularity is popularity and it doesn't matter why that popularity exist. By this logic, there are very few fans of R.O.B. as a character because his game was shoddy.

Even then, the demand for Roy isn't just based off of Melee (at least in Japan). FE6 was a highly critically acclaimed title in Japan; tied with Awakening for the highest Famitsu score in the series and according to this, FE6 is tied with FE7 as the 2nd highest scoring game in the series whereas FE13 is the third lowest scoring game in the series. Also Roy is well-received as a Lord in FE6.

Think of it like this, if all of his demand came off of Melee, Roy wouldn't be so extremely highly demanded in Japan and wouldn't be considerably more wanted than Mega Man was in Japan.

When comparing demand, I think Sakurai is going to be placing Roy and Mewtwo in the same position as newcomers for SSB4 because of the fact that they did not appear in Brawl. They're not "newcomers", but they're not Brawl characters either, so it's better to place them in a similar position to the newcomers. Being veterans do not make their demand any less legitimate and it still doesn't change Roy and Mewtwo being among the Top 5 most wanted characters worldwide and both of them beating every single newcomer in Japan by a considerable margin; even Mega Man. This is definitely something Sakurai is not going to brush off.

Roy being a DLC in Awakening does give him some importance. He received a very well received re-design in FE13 and he was one of the first DLCs in Japan. At the very least, it shows that Roy hasn't been forgotten by Intelligent System.

As for Sakurai going for Intelligent Systems for new suggestions, that is certainly possible, but it's not a sure thing either. Remember that Intelligence System is much more lax with characters than the Pokémon Company is so they can't just say "no" to Sakurai if he wants to use Roy over Chrom and chances are great Sakurai will want to see Roy back even if he also wants to see Chrom in. It's also possible that Sakurai is satisfied with just Marth, Ike and Roy considering those three are what will make the most amount of people happy. Even if Sakurai does go for Intelligence System to discuss characters, it probably won't be just to see who's the new character, but rather to discuss character representation overall and in-depth discussion over Marth, Ike, Roy, Chrom and what to do in regards to characters.

The point is, considering how poor FE9 sold, sales did not contribute to Ike's inclusion in SSB4. If they wanted a character with good sales, they would have picked a character from FE7. Also, there is zero evidence indicating that sales play any part in character inclusions.

But the vast majority of people who play Fire Emblem do play Smash; especially in the West. Including an Awakening character will have a negligible effect on sales. We are at the point where characters by themselves simply won't sell games anymore because there are no necessary characters left. Even Mewtwo's exclusion (as dumb as a decision as it would be, not that Mewtwo would miss out) would have minimal impact on sales by itself.

Actually that character was Leif, not Sigurd. Roy was added instead of Leaf supposedly because his fire properties made him more unique.

You bet your sweet *** we dont, If your going to cut him cut him dont just slap him on the newest pokemon that wont even make sense, Its just insulting to the fanbase.
I made an alternate roster with him in along side newtwo, but had to cut palutena to fit it:

... also made the alt costumes a bit more reasonable (only 10)... with only 10 it could be within the realm of POSSIBILITY to make them only semi clones, or at least a few of them semi-clones:

Dr. Mario, Lucina, Dixie, Wolf, Lucas, and possibly Alph could all be semi-clones while the rest are just straight costume changes...

Note: Wii Fit Trainers alt costume is a male version just didn't have an icon.

I do feel like I'm on to something here with a masked Lucina costume for Marth so we can squeeze in an awakening rep while keeping the 3 FE reps Smash has had already.

The one I highlighted really irks me...especially considering Wolf was his own unique character that shared none of Fox/Falco's animations aside from a final Smash. All Wolf would need is a tweak to his special moves and he's his own completely unique character since all of his A attacks are different, including his grabs and his dash/Smash attacks, nothing he has in that section is like Fox or Falco. I'm sorry but...did you ever even play Wolf in Brawl? One fight could easily show he's very different than Fox and Falco. Falco and Fox are so alike they even share throws. :ohwell:

Hey, let me know if anyone else feels this way. I never like the idea of another Franchise having more reps than Mario. Mario is the main franchise and it should not have more than Pokemon. It should have more or at least be tied like in Brawl. Personally, I think we should keep the big 3 together like in Brawl, or give Mario one more than Zelda and Pokemon. Thoughts?

Mario and Pokemon are the most important franchises to Nintendo and those two should always be equally represented. Zelda should either be tied with both of them, or, at least, having only one less character than they do. (Like in Melee and 64) However, Legend of Zelda should have the second biggest representation if not equal with Mario and Pokemon, which means that no new Starfox or Kirby reps, and no series having four reps but Zelda. That is the best way to represent the big three in my opinion.

Very true. Usually when I think of rosters, I keep the three tied together, or Zelda and Pokemon being the second most represented since they are the next most popular franchises. They have had the same amount of reps since Melee.
