"The Pac is ba-aack!"

That is why it was the best roster, the more safe, the better. Lets be serious. If I made a roster with Hades, Lucina, Tingle, Meowth, Bandanna Dee, and Samurai Goroh, would anyone assert that it was the best roster? Nope.

My roster is pretty safe too, but it also has characters that make it unique, while not making it risky.

And just so everyone knows, there is nothing against the Diddy and Dixie tag-team except for the fact that Diddy was his own in Brawl, but that can be changed.

Takamaru just seems a bit generic wen compared to Lip.
While his ninja weapons sounds cool, there is another, more deserving Samurai on the table.
A more rounded one if you catch my drift.
Samurai Kirby?

I am sorry, allow me to elaborate. Sakurai feels as though another Zelda character is warranted and feasible as he was about to add Toon Zelda, which by extension, includes the entirely original character, Toon Sheik. His overt effort to include two additional Zelda characters contradicts the common notion that Zelda is "fine" as it is.

Marth is confirmed. I could easily see a masked-Marth costume. Perhaps that is just me.

"The Pac is ba-aack!"
I doubt Sakurai's team would waste time given alternate costumes to every character, considering the fact that a lot of characters don't really have any options.

Yes, he wanted to add Toon Zelda in Brawl. That doesn't mean he wants the same for this game. After all, he didn't want an Animal Crossing character, yet the Villager is one of the newcomers this time.

Sakurai has changed his mind multiple times. I wouldn't count on Toon Zelda with so much certainty.

A samurai sword moveset is something we haven't seen yet.
And for whoever argues against Takamaru, I've got one thing to say...
Nintendo Land.
That's it really. That's the reason we all find Takamaru so likely, and you know it.
But it's a good reason if I've ever seen one.
Nintendo Land is, indeed, something that favors Takamaru. As is Sakurai's statement of wanting to bring back old Nintendo characters.

I think the most important aspect that favors his inclusion is, without a doubt, his moveset potential. We don't have a medieval Japanese character. Takamaru's inclusion would be a breath of fresh air for the roster.

Clones aren't bland. Have you seen Melee Falco? Or better yet, PM Ganondorf. ****'s flashy as hell.
Note I said "prediction". Its best at predicting. Not best at having every Nintendo character everyone wants and a deck of Hanafuda cards.
About a roster having every character everyone wants, people want them because they know they are likely.
And a deck of Hanafuda cards because Nintendo is proved to be aware of it's existence.

I actually think that is the biggest notion that opposes the Diddy and Dixie tag-team concept. As Diddy mains are already well associated with Diddy operating on his own, it would be awkward to staple another character to him. That would most likely change the play-style of the character drastically. We do not even know if he managed to make the Ice Climbers work yet. So I highly doubt he is in a rush to try again. Even so, Sakurai scrapped the concept for a reason. He probably tried it and didn't think it worked. It is possible, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

That isn't to say that I wouldn't like it. I honestly want something different with Diddy and I do not think Dixie needs her own move-set.

I didn't insinuate that Sakurai was going to include Toon Zelda, I didn't imply that his mentality was stagnant either. I merely asserted that he was going to add two Zelda Newcomers in Brawl. The series has only grown since per-Brawl and I imagine that one more newcomer is fairly likely.

About Toon Zel, I had basically one spot left (I didn't want to add more than 13 slots), so it boiled down to her or some other new series.

I always have this uncertainty putting a character like Chibi-Robo, Isaac, Starfy, yeah. It seems like to me, Sakurai wants to keep the minor second party stuff as ATs, as we've seen with Starfy, and keep the roster dedicated to major first party series (With some exceptions, like Pokemon, but in that case, it's ****in' Pokemon, yo). Just a feeling I always had.

Changing his banana peel to a "transformation" wouldn't be that much of a difference.

In Brawl development, Sakurai has shown that he like a Diddy and Dixie tag-team, but didn't most likely due to time-constraints.
Why would he not want to now?
Wouldn't he WANT to make his failed idea come true?

No, the banana is everything! That would change Diddy's meta-game drastically.

Edit- I was mostly thinking of the Ganondorf precedent.

For the record, I feel that Tingle is one of the most underrated characters there is.
He's important, and he's certainly an all star in his own way.
And I agree with @ Frostwraith Frostwraith , he would be extremely unique.

And almost to my 3,000th post!

I can't see Goroh happening. F-Zero hasn't been relevant in a long while. No hate, just facts.
You all saw this coming
upload_2014-1-16_8-22-47.jpeg

Believe it or not. Samurai Goroh is one of the more likely characters. His reasons to be in are greater in number and more powerful

Starting with the reasons why F-Zero will most likely get another character.

  1. F-Zero is one of the most highly regarded Nintendo franchises and deserves it just as much and even more than some franchises that got more characters.
  2. One of the original 10 franchise in the first Smash game
  3. It hasn't gotten a chance to be further represented for 3 installments due to so many more essential characters from other franchises. This is now the 4th installment. Also all those shoe-in newcomers are out of the way (EX: Wario, Diddy, King Dedede, Pokemon Trainer, 2nd Metroid)
  4. With all the franchises having their partner or rival and even EarthBound getting a second character and Star Fox getting a third, F-Zero is underrepped and not having it's second major character like Donkey Kong, Kirby, and Star Fox did is absurd.
  5. New Smash installments tend to add new characters to franchises that have not gotten any since their first debut. The only two ones left with any viable characters are Kid Icarus and F-Zero. Both of which have a very deserving character I might add.
  6. F-Zero has a wide variety of unique characters
Here's the only 2 reasons I can possibly think of as to why people personally think it shouldn't
  1. F-Zero has not had a game in 11 years
Now I'm gonna stop right there because this one strikes me as ridiculous. This serves no real validation as far as I know. F-Zero has still had much retrospective support including Virtual Console releases and Nintendo Land mini game. If I recall correclty the 3DS Ambassador program featured F-Zero. Not Golden Sun or any of that.

Now putting aside these recent tributes to F-Zero. Why does not having a newly made title recently matter when you're F-ZERO!? Again, this is one of the most remembered and highly regarded Nintendo franchises and is also highly regarded in Super Smash Brothers. The game which I propose will represent it with another character. Apparently we think that because there hasn't been a new title that Sakurai is going to throw F-Zero representation away in a garbage can like it never meant **** to him or any of us. The main objective of Smash is a crossover fighting game between Nintendo's biggest franchises in history. Not Nintendo's most recently supported franchise in the past 3-4 years. No where is F-Zero better paid tribute than Smash. We might as well stop speculating Assist Trophies, Stages, and Music for the game. Because Sakurai has decided he doesn't care about F-Zero as much as he used to. I mean hell I remember when I stopped caring about Banjo-Kazooie because Microsoft killed them 10 years ago...oh, wait no I didn't.

Here's an argument I think rather destroys the "F-Zero is too old" argument. Kid Icarus was a game from 1986 and had no more than a gameboy sequel. Sakurai took this old and unimportant franchise and made a WHOLE GAME OUT OF IT. He even postponed the beginning of Smash 4 development until he was done.

A game not getting a new installment doesn't mean the company has fogotten about it (in fact we were told they just couldn't think of anything innovative.) because they still pay tribute to it and re release it's games. So to think that Masahiro Sakurai, someone who's job is to represent the best of Nintendo history properly in a crossover game regardless of how old it is, would just brush aside only a second character to a franchise that hasn't gotten one since the first installment after TONS of a characters (arguably enough) were added to others because it hasn't had an official newly release retail game in a while.....that's just crazy.

Sakurai has not forgotten about F-Zero and neither has Nintendo. If Masahiro Sakurai actually gives a single **** that F-Zero hasn't had a game in a while then I'll give you each 1,00,000,000$ and leave this site forever.

Tingle is my most wanted newcomer, so I would certainly not mind his inclusion. It would be cool if he was the "Fighting Clown," I didn't even know that was a thing prior to Frost's post.

As I mentioned in my post before, I'd prefer Tingle to represent his own series rather than being lumped in with the main cast with the Triforce icon.

Tingle may appear every now and then, but even then, those five game appearances he's made haven't really made much of an impact on the series (Well, besides ruining Wind Waker :smirk:) and is essentially a minor character still. But in his own games, he's the main protagonist which I feel is what would justify him if anything.

It's like how I think Yoshi probably wouldn't be playable if it weren't for Yoshi's Island/Story, because in the mainline Mario games, he's nothing but a mere powerup, but whereas in YI he's the star, which I would theorize would be his justification to be in Smash.

TDLR: I feel like making Tingle a mainline Zelda character mind as well be the day SSB strips Yoshi and Wario of their own emblems and just make them mainline Mario characters.

The Zelda newcomer I deem more likely based on the uniqueness factor is Tingle.

He could embody the Fighting Clown trope very well.
Tingle...Ya know, I really need to play some of the games with him in it, because right now all he does is creep me out. A fighting clown would be cool, I admit. If he makes it in I'll probably use him in one form or another.

Speaking of Zelda, I just want to say one thing: If it wasn't for the fabulous Ghirahim, there wouldn't be multiples reincarnations of Link, Zelda, and Ganon. He's basically the one who helped the set it all in motion. :smirk:

Tingle is frequent in many Zelda games. He really only had one real game if I am correct. One was just a BF clone and I forget the 3rd one.
It would be like having Peach as a Super Princess Peach rep, were she represents a 1 game series that probably won't go on.

Tingle is not important. He doesn't serve a huge role in the games, he doesn't get Zelda games sold.
Even in Japan where he got his own game, he is only moderately popular.

Would he be unique? Of course. But not for many of the right reasons.

I love how you responded to two sentences with a wall of text. ;)

I say Goroh has a 50/50 chance, same as any of my requests.

Putting two characters in one slot doesn't mean you get more characters with less cost. It means Sakurai's team has to meticulously program tag-team mechanics into the game.

I agree with this sentiment. I feel as though many proclaim that Tingle should represent his spin-off series because...
A) They arbitrarily assert that Zelda is "fine as is."
B) They want their favorite Zelda character to still have a chance.
C) They are a fan of his spin-off series for some reason.

Bananas are a huge part of Diddy's game. It would be a huge difference. Please study the characters you talk about.

And before I let this Clone bias continue
If you can't tell the differences just by this video I can't help you.

@SaturnGamer64: I guess, still don't think we're getting a new F-Zero rep though. I get the argument though.

I never said it means less cost.
I said that Sakurai wanted a tag team in Brawl, but didn't do to time issues.
If we wanted to do it before, why wouldn't he now?
He has the chance to put in a character he wanted, so he may very well do it.

Remember, all the relevancy arguments and such pale in importance compared to what it matters: gameplay and roster variety.

Sure, those arguments on why F-Zero should have a character are all pretty, but the question is what would they bring or add to the game? Remember that F-Zero has the exact same source material to work with as Brawl. It hasn't evolved, unlike the Zelda, Mario, Donkey Kong, Pikmin, Pokémon, Fire Emblem, Metroid or the Kid Icarus series.

You may state that Samurai Goroh brings a samurai character. Sure, that's unique and new, but I think Takamaru would do the samurai role much better, because he could use the same fencing style, but at the same time has more source material to work with, unlike F-Zero, which is a racing game and we don't see the characters interact much outside of their vehicles.

Captain Falcon's moveset is created entirely from scratch, with the only move directly related to the series being his Blue Falcon Final Smash. Not that it's a bad thing, since he still has a unique play style and is a popular character among the fanbase.

And with that, I'll be off.

WELCOME TO LOUIE G'S 3,000th POST!
WITH YOUR HOST, LOUIE G!
(Audience cheers)
"Thank you, thank you! Now for my 3,000th post I'm going to do something real special. I'm going to give our awards to my favorite users here at Smashboards. Just pretend they're real I guess."

@APC99, @ Mega Bidoof Mega Bidoof , @Keybladeguy, @SuperBrawler: You know why you guys are here. We're the original Affinity 5 of course! You're a big part of why I come here every day, to work on such an amazing project. I'm happy to be a part of it.

@SaturnGamer64: Come on, I couldn't forget my pal Saturn! Sure, we may not agree on everything, but you're one of the first friends I made on Smashboards, and you continue to be one of my best, whether our opinions are similar or complete opposites. :luigi2:

@ Morbi Morbi : For giving me about half of my likes. Seriously, I think I speak for everyone here when I say that I would have nowhere near 5,000 likes if it weren't for you.

@BluePikmin11: You may very well have the weirdest rosters I've seen here, but I actually enjoy seeing them. It doesn't matter if I find it likely or not, you have fun with it and that's what truly matters. I will always tie you with Kawashima, Nintendog, and Prince Sable, no matter where I see them.

@ Scoliosis Jones Scoliosis Jones : For Super Smashboards. I may not have brought it back or had the inspiration for reopening the thread if it wasn't for you. Not to mention you're just a really cool guy who knows what he's talking about.

I gotta get off, so I'll speed things up.

@BKupa666: Kutthroats forever!
@Groose: RTC is always a blast.
@Hotfeet444: One of the smartest people here, although you should ALWAYS have Palutena on your roster.
@lonekonwolf, @ XStarWarriorX XStarWarriorX , @ Depressed Gengar Depressed Gengar and @BigAxle for being good buddies throughout.
@ Chandeelure Chandeelure : Waddle Dee of course.
@TumblrFamous: We're the only sane people on this madhouse of a blog.
@FalKoopa, @Mario_and_Sonic_Guy, @Venus of the Desert Bloom: You guys are great mods, keep it up.
@Swampasaur: Really cool dude and extremely smart.
@Opossum: MUDDY BUDDIES.
@Diddy Kong: Mr. Impa himself. One of, if not my favorite user from before I joined Smashboards.

Good night everybody!
