Has there been any sort of mention of a Nintendo Direct soon? It's been sour grapes since that VGX reveal for me. I need something nice for Smash right now.

"Arguments against Mewtwo

-Mewtwo is not a 6 gen rep
-Mewtwo was not introduced in the same vein as lucario it is a different vein because he is not introduced in 6 gen
-The movie was spotlighting genesect more because it was a newer pokemon to star in a movie its like having mew instead of lucario
-What do you mean Mewtwo is currently relevant to the series he has never ever been ruled out
- Pick an actual 6 gen rep I don't care if it stands out but I really care about the pokemon section in smash bros and I would be very disappointed if a new character wasn't added Mewtwo would make it boring because you are putting him back in
What I mean is why would you have a character that is in SSBM and SSB4 but not SSBB that just makes things feel null
- If Mewtwo were to be in ssb4 he would have to replace lucario when it was the other way in brawl and would downgrade the pokemon section because you put someone older or have both Mewtwo and Lucario which it would be too redundant moveset wise and representation wise and they took out Mewtwo to put in Lucario so having both would nullify why lucario was added in the first place
- Calling Mewtwo a 6 gen rep is like calling Abomasnow, Manectric, Absol, Heracross, Pinsir 6 gen reps because they are equally as upplayed"

...I totally disagree, but thoughts?

Bull****. Complete and utter bull****.

So....

This may be a deathtrap.... But I'm going to do it anyways!

Just a few thoughts on several of the newcomers / returnees.

[collapse="My thoughts on several newcomers / returnees."]
Mewtwo: Possibly the most likely character out of this list. Veteran. Importance. Popular around the world. Everything is perfectly aligned for Mewtwo to make his return. The Pokemon Company would have to do some MAJOR interfering (and stupid interfering) for him to be excluded.

Roy: A bit trickier than the other likely returnee, Mewtwo. FE characters are very difficuly to predict, but I think it's a lot simpler, than we think. I personally think Roy is dependant on what Sakurai views as most important. If Sakurai thinks fan demand and veteran status is most important, than Roy is the way to go.

Dr. Mario: A lot more likely than people think, methinks. Doc was planned for Brawl at one point. I think he actually has a decent chance of being the fifth Mario character. Again, I think it depends on what Sakurai thinks is most important. If Sakurai thinks veteran status is most important, I can see Doc getting in over Mario newcomers. It's possible that we could get him as an alt costume though. Depends on whether Sakurai's thought on "fireballs =/= pills" has changed or not.

Young Link: Not happening. At least, not with Toon Link here. Toon Link (conceptually, at least) can do everything Young Link can do, but better. There would be no point in him. He's also the only character in smash history to be replaced by someone. And frankly, his replacement is a lot more popular, important, etc. Again, no point in him anymore...

Pichu: The only character in Smash Brothers history to be downright thrown out. Although I see him as more likely than Young Link, I think it's safe to say that we will never see him again. However, if we get DLC, I think he's a prime candidate.

Bowser Jr.: My preferred choice for a Mario newcomer, but I personally have doubts about him. He's important and popular sure, but Toad was that and more... Although I love the little tyke, I don't think we're getting him... He is the most popular of the Mario newcomers though. I think if Sakurai thinks popularity is most important, we'll get him.

Paper Mario: Frankly... I have no idea why people discard the thought of him, so easily. I think he may actually be the most likely Mario newcomer. He's popular, and has stars in an entire sub series. Something no other Mario newcomer can say. While I think it would feel odd to include Jr, over Toad and Waluigi over all of them, I think it would make some lick of sense if Paper Mario got in over Toad. He is Mario after all. I think if Sakurai thinks star power is most important, we'll get Paper Mario.

Waluigi: WAAAA! So... I think he's getting in as an AT again. However, the WAA! is pretty darn popular and doesn't show any sign of going anywhere. However, he has a pretty large hatebase... He's a very divisive character. At least in regards to Smash. I suppose Sakurai could include him if he feels having "the plumbers" is important. For completions sake. Not a likely mindset by any means, but I suppose it's possible.

King K. Rool: Personally, the choices for DK are almost as hard as FE. Both Dixie and King K. Rool have a lot going for them. A lot of the time, people choose one over the other out of preference. Both have a lot of popularity and importance. Both have a lot of star power. Again I think it just comes down to what Sakurai thinks is most important. If Sakurai thinks popularity and uniqueness is most important, I think he'll choose K.Rool.

Dixie Kong: As stated before, I think she and King K have a lot in common. Dixie was planned for Brawl though. If Sakurai wants to revisit his old ideas, then we may very well get Dixie. However, unlike FE, I do think that DK is big enough and that both characters are big enough that we may get two DK newcomers. I don't find it very likely, but it's definitely a possibility. Dixie could also be an easy semiclone if Sakurai is pressed for time, but I think he respects the character too much for that.

Kamek: Oh Kamek! You're so cool! Too bad I doubt you're gonna be in Smash 4. However... I think it's entirely possible for Kamek to be in the next one. He's getting a LOT of roles recently. Nintendo is finally remembering him and it makes me happy. Hopefully, in Smash 5, he can be seen as a real contender!

Toon Zelda / Toon Sheik / Tetra: A character with a lot on controversy... She was planned for Brawl. Which says a lot actually. Sakurai actually considered her and possibly considered making a completely original character in Toon Sheik. Honestly, I'm not sure what to say about her, other than she has a chance. I dunno. She could be an easy character to develop if pressed for time, but I'm not sure Sakurai will be in that situation.

Tingle: KOOLIMPAH! This is an interesting character. Do not steal him. Tingle, like Waluigi, has a hatebase, and a BIG one at that. However, unlike Waluigi, Tingle is a very important character in the Zelda series. And has even starred in his own series. His inclusion would turn a few heads but at the same time is pretty logical considering his importance...

Ridley: Ridley is an interesting characters. One of the most important and popular characters left. He has a large amount of star power, especially compared to his competition. The only characters that can compare to his star power are Pac-Man, Mewtwo, K.Rool, Dixe, Mario characters and arguably Little Mac. He's got a lot going for him, so why isn't he considered a shoo-in? Possibly because he's one of the most controversial characters yet. Is he too big? Is he a stage hazard? Is he a boss again? Is he finally playable? Frankly, it's a crap shoot. He could be anything. The only thing we can really do at this point is wait and see.

Bandana Dee: The most likely Kirby newcomer. By far. He's popular, important and downright adorable. However, the demand for a Kirby newcomer is pretty low. Many people view the series as complete with Kirby, Meta Knight, and King Dedede. I don't think we'll see him this time around. However, he's one of those characters that could be a good choice for the next game.

Krystal: Another divisive character. She's a lot like Bandana Dee actually. Popular and important she's a pretty wanted character. However, she has the same problem Bandana Dee has. Many people view Starfox as complete and most don't want Falco or Wolf to leave and I doubt Sakurai will cut either of them. I think she'll sit this one out personally. Maybe, if Starfox gets more games and she stays important we could see her in Smash 5.

Palutena: The only likely choice for a Kid Icarus newcomer. No Medusa. No Magnus (WHY DO PEOPLE KEEP INSISTING HE'S A SHOO-IN!?!?!). She's popular around the world, important and has little to no competition or problems with her inclusion. I think she has a pretty likely chance of being included. Some people say Sakurai's humbleness will keep her out, but I doubt it.

Chrom:Oh... boy.... Chrom. Well, I think he's about as likely as Roy. He's popular (though not as much Roy), important and is marketed a lot. He and Lucina are even getting skins in Monster Hunter. DO YOU REALIZE HOW HUGE THAT IS?!?! It's the equviliant of GTA over in Japan. Frankly, I think that Sakurai will choose Chrom if he thinks marketability and recency (it plays a part, don't say it means nothing) are most important.

My Unit / Avatar / Robin: A bit of a surprise choice. There's not much reason to add Robin over Roy or Chrom sadly. However, I do think that Sakurai might add him if he finds uniqueness important.

Little Mac: Practically confirmed. That boxing ring man. It's obviously Punch Out!! inspired. Combine that with the facts that he's incredibly popular and important and you got yourself the only character we can call a shoo-in.

Isaac: A character I'm not sure where his chances lie... He's pretty popular in the west and Golden Sun has quite the legacy... but Sakurai could easily overlook his series. I'm just gonna go and say 50-50.

Shulk: Like Isaac, I'm not sure... He's got a chance yeah.... I think I'm gonna say 50-50 for him too. His case is pretty similar to Isaac.

Takamaru: If we're getting a retro character. It's him. He's the most popular retro choice and probably has the most star power out of all reasonable retro choices. However, I am starting to doubt a retro character in general. I think a condensed roster may really hinder his chances.

Mii: I think they're incredibly likely. They show up in everything. They're popular (not here, but almost everywhere else) and important being a part of one of Nintendo's main series now. Their implementation may cause problems, but Sakurai will definitely consider them.

Pac-Man: The only new 3rd party character we're gonna get. He's the only real legendary character left. Namco helping may get him noticed but ultimately its up to whether Sakurai thinks he's worth it.

[/collapse]

My thoughts on things. Please tell me what you think. I can elaborate as well, if you wish.

EDIT: I really would like to hear your thoughts guys. I don't want just likes...

Sounds about right to me, for the most part. Good to see someone else like Bowser Jr. too. Unfortunately, Miis are rather likely, but if their movesets aren't completely customized then I won't have a huge problem. Palutena pretty much is the most reasonable Kid Icarus choice. Not to say I would be against other characters like Magus, but they aren't as likely. The only thing I kind of disagree with is Takamaru. Not to say he isn't possible, but I personally see retro characters as a wild card choice. We could pretty much get any of them, not a one needs to be "popular" in any respect, so long as they are interesting to play as.

I do hope a few of the Assist Trophy characters get a chance to be playable too. Namely Mac and Isaac, but Ray would be alright too.

I can agree with you with Dr. Mario. Sakurai chose to develop him for Brawl. Not Toad. Not Waluigi. Not Bowser Jr. Dr. Mario. I think that says a lot.

I think the big thing holding Chrom back is it's harder to make him stand out from Marth, both in terms of fighting concept and aesthetically. There's nothing special about his sword, and he visually looks a lot like Marth at surface glance.

I agree on pretty much everything. (though I don't know much about Golden Sun, Fire Emblem or Xenoblade)

I agree Little Mac is basically a shoo-in at this point. All we have to do is wait for his official confirmation.

I suppose Miis have a decent chance. If Sakurai sees an issue in letting people play as their virtual counterparts participate in a fighting game, whether it be one he only views personally or one he predicts would cause controversy among fans. He might also not see much potential in the Mii. But yeah, I'm certain Sakurai has considered or will consider Miis as well.

Excellent post swamp, my thoughts exactly. I have no arguments against this, since this is basically what I think as well.

so when xeno posts "fire emblem general" everyone goes haha, but when I do it I get told to shut up? pffft that's BS.

Your lack of mention of Goroh and Toad is disturbing. Yeah, they're not very likely, but...just a mention would be nice.
I mean, if Kamek deserves a mention, then I think Goroh at the very least does too.

Other than that my views are basically the same. Except maybe the confidence in Takamaru. That's not to say that he's unlikely though.

Then keep it the way it is. Nine is a little high though.
SSB64: 10 franchises
Mario
Donkey Kong
Zelda
Metroid
Yoshi
Kirby
Star Fox
Pokemon
F-Zero
Mother

Melee: 3 franchises
Ice Climber
Fire Emblem
Game & Watch

Brawl: 4 Nintendo franchises + 2 third-party franchises (6 franchises total)
Kid Icarus
Wario
Pikmin
R.O.B.
Metal Gear
Sonic

SSB4: 2 Nintendo franchises + 1 third-party franchises (3 franchises total FOR NOW)
Animal Crossing
Wii Fit
Mega Man

I still think we might get at least 4 more new franchises but I would be happy if we got a total of 10 new franchises. The first five franchises listed below are the most likely (in my opinion) and the last two franchises listed are unlikely and are purely biased choices of mine but they still have a small chance of happening.
Punch-Out!!
Mysterious Murasame Castle
Wii Sports
Xenoblade Chronicles
Pac-Man
Duck Hunt (what else did you expect from me? :awesome:)
Wars (it's got 12 games spanning from the NES to the Wii and it still doesn't have a character? it's mind-boggling)

I only picked those franchises because they are first-party Nintendo franchises, not second-party Nintendo franchises. With the sole exception of Pokemon (it is second-party) and obviously third-party franchises, Sakurai tends to favor first-party Nintendo franchises.

Yeah,FE is pretty hard to predict, but personally I don't think Roy will come back,I think he will be in if FE can have 3 characters.

I'm a part of his large hatebase XD ,so...AT!

I will be Shy Guy supporter forever!...:c
I think Kamek is unlikely XD

Hazards,Boss,Cracks and holes! AAAAAH!...I don't know.

Shoo-in ...well ok... I think he is the most likely Kirby newcomer and is likely,we will need to wait for 2 things: Dedede's reveal (he can be part of Dedede's moveset.) and Kirby Triple Deluxe,if Bandana Dee is in that game, that would mean ...He is an important part of Kirby games and a staple in the series...and if he isn't in Smash 4 ,he will be a shoo-in for Smash 5.

Krystal: Another divisive character. She's a lot like Bandana Dee actually. Popular and important she's a pretty wanted character. However, she has the same problem Bandana Dee has. Maybe, if Starfox gets more games and she stays important we could see her in Smash 5.

Bandana Dee with boobs and a part of a very little franchise.
I think Bandana Dee is more likely, but I think Krystal has chances.

Yeah,is she or nothing.
Medusa...XD
Magnus... XDDDD

Chrom:Oh... boy.... Chrom. Well, I think he's about as likely as Roy. He's popular (though not as much Roy), important and is marketed a lot. He and Lucina are even getting skins in Monster Hunter. Confirmed! XD

Isaac: A character I'm not sure where his chances lie... He's pretty popular in the west and Golden Sun has quite the legacy... but Sakurai could easily overlook his series. I'm just gonna go and say 50-50.

I think he has great chances,or at least, better chances than Shulk IMO.

Shulk: Like Isaac, I'm not sure... He's got a chance yeah.... I think I'm gonna say 50-50 for him too. His case is pretty similar to Isaac.

Yeah,is likely.

Takamaru: If we're getting a retro character. It's him. He's the most popular retro choice and probably has the most star power out of all reasonable retro choices. However, I am starting to doubt a retro character in general. I think a condensed roster may really hinder his chances.

The best Retro choice with Lip.

Mii: I think they're incredibly likely. They show up in everything. They're popular (not here, but almost everywhere else) and important being a part of one of Nintendo's main series now. Their implementation may cause problems, but Sakurai will definitely consider them.

Pretty likely,but I hate them...

Pac-Man: The only new 3rd party character we're gonna get. He's the only real legendary character left. Namco helping may get him noticed but ultimately its up to whether Sakurai thinks he's worth it.

Same as Mii.

Speaking of Christmas, I made a new avatar.

I'm Mr. Troll Christmas,
I'm Mr. Derp.
I'm Mr. N64,
I'm Mr. Pointless post.

They call me Mega Bidoof,
Whatever I post,
Is a pile of mush!
IM TOO MUCH!

But seriously, for Christmas I think Ice Climbers would be good,
But also keep in kind most of Japan doesn't celebrate Christmas.
Only about 10% are Christian.
But remember, we have to take in account that they celebrate a non religious Christmas out there, kinda like i do

I think we'll get more new franchises getting character representation. Since I said before there's only K. Rool, Mewtwo, Palutena, and Ridley left.

One would think that Dixie Kong could be on that list too. Maybe even Samurai Goroh/Black Shadow if F-Zero ever gets some attention. Well, that's not counting any potential last minute additions anyway.

But your point still stands, most of the major characters from all of the important franchises are in. We could use some Punch Out, Golden Sun, and Xenoblade. Throw in Rolling Western and Panel De Pon too. Maybe Custom Robo, that series could use a comeback.

Wow, I missed a good discussion last night. SSBF hasn't been in on the action in a while, I wish he was on more. One of the users I remember most from before I was Louie G.
PS: I miss your old Mega Man avi...
So since it's a snow day, I'm going to throw in my two cents!
I wonder if we're going to see a Nintendo Direct in light of the embarrassing VGX reveal for Nintendo. If so, I think we could see a newcomer get confirmed. Otherwise, newcomer confirmation should start rolling out next year.Considering that Toon Link has already been confirmed to return and we already have confirmation of eighteen characters, I think Sakurai is going to reveal them all before release. I have a feeling that we're done with unlockables.
Well, I don't think we're done with unlockables. I just feel that maybe they'll reveal unlockables before the game releases. I am still fully confident that Luigi, Marth, and Toon Link will be unlockable.
Did somebody just suggest Unlockables aren't returning......................
I liked because Animaniacs.
I heard Japan doesn't celebrate Christmas at all.
Well I mean, there are Christmas trees in Animal Crossing, so...

And then we talked about Mewtwo being relevant?
Well obviously he is.

I guess it was mainly pg 1497. And look at that, pg 1500 is coming up real soon. Hopefully it doesn't skip to like pg 1540 like it did last time before we could get to 1000.
Looking forward to another great day of speculation I suppose.

Yes, but not that many people do.
I think in total, 20% celebrate Christmas in total out there.

We should also take into account that their traditions our different then ours.
For example, it is a really famous Christmas tradition in Japan to buy a large bucket of KFC chicken every Christmas, even some people order their bucket months in advance!
And I'm serious about this!

It is second-party.

If Sakurai were to start including second-party Nintendo franchises besides Pokemon, I would love to have Starfy and Isaac (or Matthew, I don't care which).

I think that Kirby and Fire Emblem fall into that category too. So it's not like Golden Sun or Starfy would be treading new territory, in a sense.

Edit: I am determined to have the first post on page 1500. Bring it on suckers, I've got all day.

Very well then. Have at you! jk

Also, did anyone see the pic about Marth's shield breaker getting buffed? Sakurai wanted more people to use the move as intended.

EDIT: Double post, my bad.

well now I saw the perfect moment to spread my favorite quote:awesome:
so anyway what's the topic mates?

We don't really have a current topic right now. I tend to try and spark a topic from time to time so......Maybe pick a Kid Icarus character other than Palutena?

Or how about any random pokemon you want playable?

well for a kid Icarus character over Palutena, the only one that I can think of that I want more than her, and actually has more importance to the series than a lot of other characters, is dark pit, luckily I'll still get him one way or another as an alt. costume:awesome:
as for a random Pokémon, has to be eevee

Yeah, at least Dark Pit might get in the game in some form as a palette swap. Hey, Mr. Sakurai. You know you want that Dark Samus semi-clone late in development! It too good to pass up! Also throw in Doc too if you can.

Sakurai bias, what else?

It's an important series? I think that's a good reason.

So, dat dizzy effect on Mega Man...
He parties pretty hard sometimes. But that's why he's called Rockman. Megaman is just that kind of robot.

A few things they left out: In Jewish tradition, it is customary to celebrate death-days instead of birthdays, and since the earliest days of the church, Christmas--or Jesus' death day--was traditionally celebrated around that time on the Lunar Calendar.
Disregarding all the modern aspects we have of Christmas now (the tree, the presents), Christmas is very unpagan. Yes, it is true that the Church didn't 'officially' have Christmas in the fourth century, but it was a universally held tradition and took place on the same day every time. The Roman solstice celebration (Saturna) was actually a response to Christianity's Christmas antics, presumably they thought that if the Christians had this big celebration around this time then obviously they should have one to combat it.

I'm tired of this myth of Christmas' 'pagan' past, regardless of who's historically accurate, there are so many conflicting accounts from 'experts' that it's probable the solution as per the true origin will never come. And besides, if it turns out that Christmas and all those historical accounts were merely a fabrication, that won't change anything for how authentically Christian it is. Gosh darn my Anthropology class. Also science is cool.

Hey, I've been bamboozled, this isn't Roster Prediction! Er, uh, I predict someone completely unexpected and someone completely controversial and someone completely beloved.
