Why does every discussion turns around to Fire Emblem? It's like a cycle. Life, Death, Fire Emblem. And we haven't seen a new roster lately. Where they be?

Here's a question for everyone.

Do you think we could be seeing a new design for the character selection screen that isn't a horizontal rectangle? I think it would be a great idea to kind of change things up by redesigning the selection screen format. It should reflect the appearance of the current Dojo page, too (if that design is final).

Some examples of a new design could be a vertical rectangle, a different shape like a circle or pyramid, a split screen like Soul Calibur 5, or even an abstract design like selecting a logo opens up a window that allows the player to select a character (like selecting the Mushroom logo opens up a window that has the Mario characters).

I like the character selection screen's design as it is, personally. But I wouldn't mind a change either. Perhaps the franchises could be divided into different sections with the respective franchise's logo above each one.

Yes, I think it is most certainly time for an aesthetic change. There is no reason to have a bland rectangle as the roster selection screen. I would love to see something new and enticing.

Melee's character select was like an ever-expanding rectangle with a notch at the bottom. Just wonder what the size will mean for Sm4sh's.

For the 3DS version I can see the character select being on the touch screen. But the touch screen could be used for something else during battle. Maybe it would leave room for damage display or movesets?

There is a lot of potential for the 3DS as well as the Gamepad. Hopefully, they utilize both to do great things for Smash.

The only current franchises on my roster with newcomers are Donkey Kong, Metroid, and Kid Icarus. (Not counting the return of Mewtwo & Roy). Should this be considered problematic, or understandable due to the massive amount of franchise newcomers in Brawl which basically gave us everyone we really needed.

According to a press release a while back around UMvC3's reveal, Mega Man and Gene from Godhand were almost chosen to be in the roster (kekeke, that's bull**** amiright?)

Anyways, what franchises do you think deserve to be introduced in SSB4? I'm rooting for Punch-Out!, Dillon's Rolling Western, and Xenoblade. Not sure about how I feel about Golden Sun though.

I don't know, I wasn't really content with Brawl's roster to be honest. I felt like a lot of essentials were missing. Sakurai picked the most important characters, but now that he has, some are missing (ideally). Which is understandable after 5 years of development in the industry. I honestly feel like Toad was the only iconic Mario character missing, but he is out for the count (most likely). Tingle and Waddle Dee come to mind, they are not the most important ever, but now that we have the necessaries, they make a lot of sense. Samurai Goroh is an overt exclusion.

To answer you question, I think that you are probably missing a few. 3 franchises getting newcomers doesn't make any sense. Surely we are over-looking certain aspects. Tom Nook from Animal Crossing is an extremely popular character that gets almost no recognition because most people think Villager is "it". However, I can see why you are drawing a blank. I have no idea what to expect.

In Tom Nook's case, though, the Villager would already be inspirationally-provided with most of the Animal Crossing themed move-pool to choose from, whereas Nook is left next to nothing. Hence, Nook would become redundant and even unnecessary.

It's not to say he is out-of-the-question, as Nook still has Bells and (perhaps) furniture at his disposal, and he is still a fairly popular character. Yet, what exactly would Tom Nook provide with his playable inclusion, especially in terms of the overall roster balance?

I imagine it using hexagons as slots. Hexagons are awesome.

I am not insinuating that I would like Tom Nook, he is just a good example of an over-looked character.

Mewtwo, Toad, Ridley, Mega Man, and Bomberman were the only people I thought were missing in Brawl's otherwise perfectly content roster.

Punch Out, Sin & Punishment, Golden Sun, Dillon, and... I know it's not deserving, but ANYTHING StarTropics would be a huge bonus for me. Like HUGE.
Balloon Fight deserves to be represented despite Villager usurping Balloon Fighter's helmet.

Just history repeating itself, but instead is more or less regulated to three characters instead of like twelve.

And they're all ****ing awful choices, but of course people will still cater to those choices because all senses of conventions are backwards.

I need want hexagons replacing squares. They look so good. They better have metallic silver as their color too. I wouldn't really want something similar to the Dojo design, looks a little bland for my taste. I hope the character select keeps the darker colors present in SSB 64 and Melee. I find them nicer to look at.

Not sure if I'm gonna post another roster. Not unless I screwed around and made a super hero one for the heck of it, but you never know.

I see the appeal in Dillon, but I have no idea why people think he's the least bit deserving compared to Punch-Out, GS, Xenoblade, Starfy, or even Wars. Sure he's cool, sure he's... sort of popular... but his games are average and are received as they are... averagely. Not to mention his games aren't really on the level of a full retail title, nor has Nintendo really done much to promote him... ever. An AT? Sure! But a character? I think that's a bit of an overstatement.

And "eShop rep" is pretty terrible reasoning.

Considering you've been with Joker, I'm not surprised. :p

Actually, they have. Dillion's Rolling Western: The Last Ranger is a Streetpass Puzzle. Something no other downloadable title has achieved.
