Can't I? When recency was never mentioned?

Not to start a battle, but why is the more popular, more requested, more recurring, more unique, and more iconic Fire Emblem character out of the question?

I agree he's very popular, he is my favorite Smash character ever, I just don't see him coming back. His relevance in the Fire Emblem games has been low as of late. Unlike Mewtwo, who was a large part of X and Y.

What it comes down to I think is that Chrom is new and is relevant as of lately, and Roy hasn't starred in a game in a long time. I also have doubts that Sakurai will bring back any characters; even Mewtwo.

Oh, so that's what the whole deal was all about... Just a very, very lucky guy that guessed three characters out of the six he predicted...

THAT's what caused all the commotion!?
Indeed, most rational individuals realize that 3 absurd guesses that actualized is something more than "luck". One that directly defies Sakurai's precedent statements, one that literally no sane person would have guessed (with any logical basis that is), and one that is a 3rd party character that specifically depends on compliance from a separate entity. We must retain that the suspected intent of the leak was to convince people of its legitimacy. So under the rare occurrence that someone actually guessed Wii Fit Trainer or Villager, no one would believe the leak. The poster decided to, with this knowledge, release what he knew. So he essentially defeats the purpose of leaking the character initially; however, his assertion was correct.

Some might state that his leak has already been proven fallacious (as we are missing half of the characters). However, at this point, those results are negligible. Most people already assume that Little Mac is in the game. Most people started to guess Miis after Wii Fit Trainers reveal regardless. Pacman is the easiest to guess, evidenced by Sakurai's immediate statement in regards to the involvement of Namco. So the leak has already served its purpose. People may be erroneously speculating on certain characters based only on the leak, but in my opinion, the leak has already proven its legitimacy. That doesn't mean that I am expecting those three characters though. There doesn't have to be a correlation.

So in essence, it wouldn't be absurd to use the leak as evidence. It might not be the strongest support, but it is valid enough.

Perhaps you're right on that, including transformations. That could be one valid reason. Unless there was an additional transformations for someone like say Mewtwo with only Mewtwo X and Mewtwo Y playable and not normal Mewtwo.
Including transformations, Brawl's roster had 39 characters, an awkward one number away form 40. Without 'em, there are 35, which is a more comfortable number.

Guys, here's an idea. As an extension of Lucario's Aura ability, at 100% damage Lucario becomes Mega Lucario! What do you think?

Well, since it's going a little slow in here, I DID make a new roster...but it's not exactly just a picture...

Total Characters: 47 (51 with transformations)
Returning characters: 37 (Including Roy and Mewtwo)
Newcomers: 10

Thoughts?

Dude, Sakurai went up to IS and asked, "Hey! Who's new and important that we can add to Smash!"
Roy's game came out AFTER Smash! It's like adding Wonder Red, but even worse!
Although we've all grown to love Roy, the reason he made it is because of his new game. If Ike's game came out around Melee, he would be the one.

Not letting this get buried. :awesome:

Don't people know Miis will serve as the customizable character? It's a nice way to implement the (rather bland), iconic avatars.
I know, I used to directly oppose the notion. However, it is fairly evident that Sakurai is attempting to make a family orientated party game for casual players. It isn't like the Miis don't have their own merit. They are the effigy of Nintendo at this point. So it would almost be repugnant to not add them

I really don't think recency should be a reason to add this one-off character who is less popular, less unique, and significant.

Roy hasn't starred in a game in a long time.
You realize he's DLC in Fire Emblem Awakening right? You know a lot of characters haven't appeared in a game in a long time. So what?

I see no reason to think that when they were originally planned in Brawl. He and Roy had the most data.

I like that roster a lot. I can't really complain about it. I really like that you have Shulk btw.

Aaaand who cares? There is a reason why 8/10 of people hate Mii.
Stupid idea,waste of a slot,bland...
I don't think that Smash Bros needs customization to be an excellent game.
And if you want Avatar characters, you have Villager.
Well,I can be sure that the Miis will not be well received.

Care to prove this? Because based on proof he saw Roy and he on his own decided to add him. I mean if I said a character was added for having a red hat and my only defense to back it up was simply that they do in fact have a red hat, it's not going to be a very good defense. You can't say a character was added for being recent JUST because they were recent, let alone use that unproven criteria to assume the next newcomer must fit that unproven criteria. And you say this is worse than adding Wonder Red. That is HARSH!

Until you genuinely prove this, I have to disagree.

Didn't almost every Fire Emblem character get into Awakening based on the DLC? I think he is essentially making the Jigglypuff argument that every was regurgitating before Toon Link was revealed. Roy isn't relevant to Fire Emblem any more, not as much as Chrom to say the least. So why does he deserve a slot over someone more relevant like Chrom (or in Jigglypuff's case Mewtwo). I have never heard about Roy having the most data, everyone talks about how Mewtwo was almost complete.

But Sakurai officially stated that he will have customizability in the game, I think he sees the Miis as good use for customization.
The Mii is has the perfect average in size, pretty much average in everything, making it the perfect customizable character.

At this point, I feel that this whole Roy/Chrom/Other dispute will end with whoever Sakurai and the team think will be better for the game. Both characters have reasonable cases for and against them, so we'll just have to wait and see. We may have no new Fire Emblem character at all. Fire Emblem seems like a game where they have new characters for every generation sort of like Pokemon. Marth is the cover boy, Roy represented the new game around Melee, Ike represented the new game around Brawl, and I think Chrom will represent the new game for Smash 4. Pokemon works the same way, except it will go Mewtwo, Lucario, and then both of them for Smash 4.

And make it Mario Kart Wii all over again, where everyone used only the Miis and ignored the rest of the cast?

Yeah, no thanks~
Is that not a testament to the demand of the character? I don't understand this reasoning, Sakurai shouldn't add the effigy of Nintendo... because most people would ignore the rest of the roster? That sounds like a good problem to have. Aside from that, we can finally play as the most important Nintendo character, Jesus.

Funny you mention the red hat, because, as far as I'm concerned, the reason he choose Roy over Leif was that he was more physically different from Marth, as well as the fact he had teh ph41r3.

Bias much?
Well, I do believe a large portion of the fanbase do. Maybe not four fifths, but a large portion regardless.

Very nice! It's kinda similar to mine, just a few minor differences. I see you've converted to Roy-ism.

Precisely, this is the best answer for the predicament. Sakurai will arbitrarily pick one and that will be the end of it. Will he pick the iconic clone that is easy to develop and has Smash relevance, or the more recent lord (of the game that made Fire Emblem mainstream) to join Ike? Only Sora Ltd. has that knowledge.

Then why the hell would they spend several months designing over forty characters if people would only care for the Miis Jesus?

Why? because the lame stage builder?
Algo me dice que te gusta la idea de los Miis XD
Have you played around with the rules, there's so many ways how you play your match like a battle between red-colored Lucas versus a team of green Marios with a time limit of 5 minutes with 10 stocks with only the item Uniras on.

I haven't converted to anything actually, I honestly don't even care if either him or Chrom gets in anymore, as people will whine, complain and bash their heads on their desks until blood comes out of their ears if either of them get in as the fanbases for both are ravenous by nature.

That question is irrelevant. They are producing a game, it is their job. My point is that Miis are not a waste of a slot if the Mario Kart precedent is anything to go by. However, I do not think the two are comparable. For instance, my Sister wanted to use small vehicles for once, she couldn't based on the notion that she couldn't stand the baby characters. So the Miis were perfect for people to use the weight class they actually wanted to while playing a tolerable character. Secondly, everyone on the Smash roster will have a distinctive move-set. I highly doubt that everyone will flock to the Miis if the Miis have a horrible move-set. Thirdly, Miis are a logical addition after the stage builder (which was fairly successful). Essentially, Miis are casual cat-nip, look at Wii Sports and Wii Resort.

The conclusion?

Baby characters suck.
